qwwerty11659d@kamen irfan, xnview, ... all good. worse part is to convince windows to stop openning all those files in their crap, because they reverted to per-extension settings
@Lensflare nah always hated those. irfan ftw because of fast easy edits - crop, resize, rotate, color/light corrections, scanning, EXIF inspect/removal. and the killer feature for me - easy batch processing -
@qwwerty yup, I also use irfan view since… I don‘t know, maybe Windows XP.
Point is, all of those features are image related and are actually useful.
Unlike the bullshit features of today’s modern image viewers.
"Log in with your facebook account to share your images with friends", or crap like that. -
I like the original ACDSee.
The later versions became suites && as such became a bit slower.
Using the 'ACDSee Photo Studio Professional 2018' myself.
It's OK for my needs. -
-
@Lensflare Which is why I had mentioned it became a suite at some point.
Originally it was a nice, lightweight image viewer.
Nowadays the thing does way more. -
At work I can't install any software of my choice so I just have to put up with all that M$ bullshit.
-
@TerriToniAX This definitely sucks.
Have you tried befriending someone in IT dept.?
// OK, joking a bit.
But on a more serious note - have you tried asking IT, maybe they have a recommendation w/ which they would be OK? -
kamen69228d@qwwerty I can't remember the last time Windows has reset its file associations. For me it retains them even through upgrades.
-
qwwerty11658d@kamen fortunately, but they're making it increasingly difficult.
Years ago, you could change association of all known image formats straight from IrfanView installation.
Then Windows10 took this option away. You had to go to settings and set "Association - Images: Irfan".
This group change is gone in Win11, so every time you encounter a new image format, you have to reassociate it.
ofc you can still do it via registry, but you can clearly see how they're taking the BFU GUI option away to make it more difficult. -
@D-4got10-01
I am working at the IT dept. In my country devs and infra are both IT. Anyway, yeah, I'm already friends with the infra manager, but our company is rather conservative and stuck with M$. -
@TerriToniAX Got it.
!sure whether country-wide, but all my companies had that separation, where IT would be infrastructure + security only.
Programmers were treated as separate department. -
@D-4got10-01
It's a small country with small companies and IT departments too small to be divided into devs and infra/support. I've worked at four of them and it's the same thing everywhere. At least nowadays we have an infra team: When I started here we were not only fullstack developers, but allround "computer guys", running around supporting users with all sorts of braindead stuff like installing software, replacing batteries in cordless devices and editing AD. That sucked! Nowadays we have dedicated infra, and they are good at that. -
@TerriToniAX I wasn't actually disputing your position.
I simply provided the reasoning why I initially mentioned the dept being called 'IT'. Since I was unsure whether this is country-wide over here, or just per-company, I chose to mention that as well.
I do agree that the smaller the company the more well-rounded you have to be && the more you have to do yourself, though. -
-
Yup. Candy crush in the START MENU, advertisements DISGUISED AS EMAILS in the outlook app. Bloatware AI slop in your image viewer.
Welcome to enshittification, there’s nothing you can do about it except kill yourself. -
@AlgoRythm
Killing myself would hardly solve the problem. Heaven is run by a highly moderated LLM, ruling out all the fun like binge drinking and full frontal nudity. Hell is already overcrowded, and littered with ads for Tesla.
