Wow, this computer has 64MB of RAM, my mind is blown. I'm going to be able to play Doom like a boss.
Wait, that doesn't say MB.
Fuck. I need to go and have a lie down. -
I made a personal home page to show everyone in the world who I am and tell them about my hobbies.
It has beautiful gif animations to make it look very professional and I optimized it for Internet Explorer with a resolution of 1024x768.
I made it with MS Frontpage.
It has a visitor counter and a lot of hyperlinks to the best websites in the whole internet (I swear).
Please write in my guestbook!
Happy surfing! -
@Demolishun I dare to disagree.
Worms, liero, minesweeper, solitaire, prehistoric, atlantis, entity, indy, ...
Bet of all -- battle city. -
@netikras street fighter, street fighter 2, mortal kombat were better back then. True.

kiki357249dah, the sweet sweet times when my drunk grandpa forgot the stroller with 1 y.o. me on the street when it was -35 degrees Celsius outside, and I almost died from a long battle with pneumonia afterwards. Not at all helped by my shitstain of a mother trying to cure it with homeopathy. Good times!
-
@kiki good ol slavic child abuse.
I remember a girl in moskow telling me that they still have a week off hot water every year to make people stronger -
@kiki also they once forgot me on the gas station on their way to holiday. I stayed there for an hour wondering where did they go
-
@donkulator dude... that was fancy\rich and\or very late 90s...
i remember collecting all the AOL floppy disks they gave out for free to wipe and use them for storage.
my friend's mom's laptop had BSOD so was going to be thrown away.... the BSOD also included the phone number to microsoft tech support, answered by real people in the USA, and a machine-specific code that had to be given to a live rep with the serial number so they could get the code to give you, the professional, to go beyond the BSOD and fix whatever.
After successfully fixing it (and in hindsight still wondering why no one ever mentioned to me that i was a little (7\8) yr old girl bullying tech support) i did get AOL running... on the 4mb of total RAM. -
@SidTheITGuy pretty sure u still have it. itd make so much sense, given your rapid irrational demeanor and persistent aggressive yet nonsensical ideas. tbh, it lines up perfectly.
-
kiki357249d@antigermanist that one week off thing is a price you pay for the entire autumn/winter/early spring worth of dirt cheap heating everyone's apartment had preinstalled when the house was built, so… fine by me. I'll just get a water heater and use it for a week every year. That's what everyone is doing
-
@Lensflare not sure if you're being sarcastic... but it does totally seem like something youd do.
i built myself a laptop (saws and solder), taught myself basic binary... fortran and C... wrote the drivers for my frankenlaptop then made a little server to host websites i was building for small businesses. i never actually considered making a personal site til years later and that was for my arts and crafts business... i totally used to have the domain coolcrafts.com (i need to see wtf it is now) -
@cafecortado
duuude...(somewhat irrelevant) look up the music video for TLC no scrubs.
i was trying to explain old 'good'(shit) music videos to this girl that worked for me and randomly was searching and clicked on that. there's beyond a nip slip near the end. totally brought my point home though lol -
figoore2479dawesome! i just received an e-mail with naked pics of Anna Kournikova...
i just need to wait 4 days till i can download and see it (if no-one calls) -
@figoore it‘s very exciting to see those pixels slowly filling up the screen row after row 😂
-
DOS, windows 95, 98, msn, The 4th Coming
you went to your friend's house to check if they were there. you had absolutely no plan, just show up and fuck around
*69 was not a sex joke
No cameras anywhere. break into anywhere as a kid, hell yeah
renting VHS tapes by collecting pennies
in Ukraine they sold 1$ bootleg operating system, industry software, video games on random street corners. perfectly cracked
CD disks in cereal boxes
gamestop had no franchises, super cool weird ass games that had personality and intrigue and were like experimental art pieces
I HAD A CRAZY ROBOT DOG. it was like 500$. also a remote control car. I could train the damn dog, that thing was amazing
goosebumps novels!
we would set stuff on fire for funsies also. what else is there to do?
and caught a bunch of lizards, snakes and kept them as pets. bugs. a pigeon once -
@awesomeest it's just sad at this point. You trying to epic own me in an argument 1800 days after you were last here, desperately trying to get that last hit of serotonin by writing that and thinking you "got" me.
So sad, it makes me laugh ngl. -
@Lensflare I'm not called Kevin :(
In france Kevin have a heavy baggage as you would be percieved as some uneducated white trash watching too much american tv show -
kiki357248d@antigermanist “In France, they call people like you Les Incompetes.”
— Kevin McCallister‘s sister to Kevin McCallister -
@antigermanist yeah in Germany Kevin also means something like this, but it‘s also a common name.
-
@iiii Well I've been to Hastings and I've been to Brighton, I've been to Eastbourne too.
-
@donkulator nice! How rabid?
I was in dorset and it's the only place in the UK who have tolerance for weed growing apparently.
Fucking beautiful place at that. -
@antigermanist depends if myspace ever deleted profiles made and not used over 2 ½ decades ago.
-
@Lensflare hey at least u got the balls to admit it to randos on the internet... though ive found most modern 'devs' only understand that context on the same level as a history textbook.
-
@SidTheITGuy dude... if i gave the slightest genuine concern\attention\etc to you in any way you seem to believe, id have checked this thread before now... also wouldve read whatever i said (which apparently you view as very prominent and thoughtfully crafted) before typing and sending this response.
seriously, i have no clue, can't even make w strong guess at any aspect aside from 50\50 chance that i also referred to you as sydney ...or syd to save 3 chars of time\effort... and im pretty sure near all of devrant is fully aware that i type excessive blocks of max chars over the least important things... so that alone should clue you in on how much i give a sht about u. -
@kiki of what exactly? i frankenstein hardware all the time... i even had to make personal rules like X real work i loathe doing = Y time to build\play with totally unnecessary tech
i also had to limit what i call my "tech graveyard" to only 1 big-ish box and 1 small-ish plastic clothes hamper... arduino boards, chips and components ive already stripped down and font have several of already, basic components like resistors, leds, small motors, etc... and shiny 'new' (sold\packaged as a specific component to build something with) dont count as the graveyard max... if i can't fit them in my organised space for soldering etc... i forcibly pare down.
now i got ~12 moisture sensors (specifically bought... few dollars) an old af fire tablet from the graveyard (i certainly didnt buy it) some usb 2 wifi (and some bt) dongles (sent to me via shipping error 6yrs ago), tiny shitty solar panels (broken 1$ halloween lights) and 2 nanos
gonna monitor my weed plants w\o walking to the garage. -
@kiki oh... i also have a totally unopened (incl original plastic) DOS 5.0.2 ...top of my only display case. i got it 16yrs ago for 2$ from an ignorant thrift store.
the way i make applications, program servers\networks\etc, is the same way i am with hardware... if it annoys me i tear it apart and rebuild so it doesn't annoy me. applies heavily to Microsoft (i mod my registry and system variables, extensions, logs, ports... etc so much that i think there's a good chance id strip a system down to pure BIOS (including removing several binaries) and build my own if it was between that and the intended typical usage of MS... or apple.
if allowed id load DOS then add\mod
few yrs ago i soldered a 24 port network switch from mostly ripped out ethernet ports that i metallically enhanced with some custom, way over 24k, gold, nearly got the specs of CAT6... tried buying one... only managed ones had the word "smart" somewhere, not showing if integral (or id have removed it, physically) -
@donkulator technically u got me... cuz technically 24k is supposed to be 100% purity... but due to the extremely soft structure of gold and the natural, near inevitability of inclusions (most being unintentional) and molecular structural enhancements(however minor) from essentially waste products of heat-mediated purification and molecules naturally existing in air that get pulled in during cooling... unless in a sterile vacuum...
The standard usage of "24k" has grown futher away from actually pure/100%... especially as consumerism favours terminology and labels far more than lnowledge of scientific standards.
Basically:
The label 24k gold has quite a bit of allowed, lower, variance... whether in jewelry or ethernet.
Industrial gold plating for tech (aside from some specific high precision applications in a vacuum) is facetious because there's thin layers of componuds for binding and resilience.
I was just using an excess of highly purified gold directly, more functional purity. -
@donkulator
Btw... not bs-ing, grandstanding or some version of facetious know-it-all type crap i cant think of...
I actually don't know all this relatively highly specific stuff about gold due to my tech nerd nature... it actually stems from another very prominent nature of mine... i like melting shit.
Seriously... even have a doctoral grasp of coefficients of expansion(rate of molecular expansion and spacing based on temperature/resulting state), esp relative to metals and glass, since 16.
some odd/possibly creepy prof at wayne state's library got obsessed w/me while returning books and printing papers for a mandated science fair.
He apparently had the habit of pulling face-down paper from the trash to read. I typed a 10pg paper before looking to see it was supposed to be ~2 pages... after explicitly denying several reqs of his i traded him my email address for ending that interaction. 2wks later he sent me a very detailed review, quotes from other profs and a (pointless)grade -
@donkulator oh... forgot...
Somehow i am a "fine arts artist". I don't think ill ever actually comprehend why... but the products of me playing/experimenting with molten glass and metals is innately of some (imo) ridiculously high value to people at auctions... even when i literally dont know wtf the thing i made is/should be used for.
It's fascinating, gives tens of thousands usd to charities i think r valid (mostly children's) yearly and is one of 3 primary reasons the IRS hates me an continues to audit me/any entity connected to me, at least once a year on avg.
Trade-offs:
I've had to be flawless in rel tax code since 18 and a few times a year i need to dress up like a girl, well beyond my typical lvl of acceptable fancy bs, and hold my tongue for a few hrs at charity events that normal people greatly desire entry to.
These events being restricted to the Internet was a thoroughly enjoyed perk of Covid19
lets pretend its the nineties.
