(regarding a discussion with a female programmer about an event)
Me: ... But Id feel so out of place, I don't even have a date
Female: well you can always just import a date
Me: what do you mean? 😕
Female: import Java.util.Date;13 -

T-Mobile AT was asked, why they store passwords in plain text, and in a long discussion, they answered this (see img)

Really annoyed by the endless tabs vs spaces discussion.
From now on, I use 4 tabs as indentation.18 -
I just walked passed 2 technologically impaired ladies in my office (the kind who think google is on their actual computer) having an avid discussion about how "You can find Ajax everywhere on so many websites!".
I was super impressed until I realised they were talking about buying dish soap :/12 -

Today I became a rubber duck debugger 🐤
I was leaving from office and spotted my senior collegue sitting glued to the screen solving an issue. I sat along with him to embark on a debug adventure. I casually asked him about the issue and what might cause it. After a bit of discussion *bam* he figured out where the problem lies and solved it in an instant.
Quack quack off I run 🐤5 -
Not just developers but this pisses me right off.....
Guy gets upset... Slams pen on his pad... Has to go and have a half hour discussion about his 'attitude'
Girl gets upset... Starts crying... Everyone else has to get lectured about what made her cry.
Both emotional outbursts but apparently one is ok and one isn't.
*For the record no pens or pads were harmed while 'researching' this rant14 -
How to talk as a dev to a dev:
1.) Talk normally
2.) Start shouting
3.) Slow down but say it more aggressively
4.) Realise you made a mistake and/or misunderstood something
5.) Explain why it's not your fault
6.) Explain why it's someone elses fault
7.) Repeat2 -

The 4 stages of collaboration:
- Stage1:
Hey dude, I setup some online docs and left some instructions / discussion points in slack, but you haven't been logged in. Can you login and have a look when you get a chance?
- Stage 2:
Oh Hey, did you ever get a chance to have a look at those docs / discussion points?
- Stage 3:
Hey, look this is due by close of business tomorrow, can you take spend an hour on it before you leave?
- Stage 4:
*loads shotgun* HEY YOU! ... sit here, login to that ..... STOP CRYING AND HURRY UP ..... see that right there? thats missing your input, you have 15 minutes left ... GO!
I'm fast approaching stage 4 and loading my efficiency shotgun as we speak.5 -
On a company meeting there was a discussion wether to trigger an event by hover or mouse click for 20 minutes. then..

Playing cool with people who
- Do the same mistakes repeatedly
- Do not think through use cases and blabber out the first thing that comes to their heads
- Are always downplaying the effort others put into their work
- Do not know when to have a discussion
- Do not take responsibility for their mess
- Are rude to newbies who are trying their best
- Are mean to the minimum wage workers1 -
My manager is so obsessed with machine learning that during a discussion today, he asked whether we could use ML to find the distance between a pair of latitudes & longitudes. He is a nice guy, though.5

My buddy developer sitting beside me turns away for a discussion. I quickly grabbed his laptop, changed the IDE theme to dark and places it just like it was before.
It took him 15 mins to realize what I have done :P.

If you are in a job interview with the dev manager of java and the other dev manager of C++ and a fundamental discussion starts:
-
so, I hate my job, they give me many tasks (many of tasks are not on my field) with no trainings and no time, plus a salary that is not that good.
I get angry, so I talked with the boss about leaving yhe company.
Well, our discussion ended up by convincing me to stay with the double of the salary.
So, I accepted the offer.
Don't know whether it's the right decision or not..9 -
In reply of a great discussion @mojoJojo started on Google's advertising ethics...
GOOGLE Already Pays AdBlock Extensions to Unblock Their Ads. This has been going on for years. Most of the large tech conglomerates have no morals and no ethics, if you ask me. To everyone saying "Oh, Google wouldn't do that" - they already do.

I hate clients that tell the developers what to use without discussion.
We're paid to solve problems.
Dictatorship on tools and methodologies are okay with junior devs or interns, but when you have senior devs, it has to be a democracy.
Having limitations like browser versions or server capabilities are fine, but declaring which slider to use, you MUST use jquery, or all that jazz just grinds my gears.5 -
Nature of Startups
Sales executive go and sell the features which are not available in the product.
They come back and inform them to the manager, then the manager makes the request to dev team to do the features.
After all these the discussion will be made in the morning and delivery is expected by evening.5 -
I have an idea. DevRant Groups. Keep the feed but, for example, have a Python group dedicated to discussion or rants about Python. Any one could make these groups. It would be similar to Thingiverse Groups.

Worst advice about programming...
My discussion with my company sistem admin :
Me : you must always think that users are dumb and will make mistakes (like putting letters when db saves as number)
He : users must learn, if they make such mistakes its their fault.

One of the guys in my uni group project accused me of bullying, shutting him out of the group, ignoring him and taking over his work. He complained to head of year, I had to have a "discussion" with head of year, welfare tutor and my personal tutor.
For supporting evidence, I brought the message he'd posted in our team Facebook group where he told me to do the thing I was doing. The discussion didn't last long, but it seemed he was unhappy with me asking questions, mean things like "I need a draft api to do my work, why don't we sit down and design it instead of the UI you're working on?"
Conclusion? He "worked on a separate project". Got to the end of the year, the whole class went for pub drinks, someone else came up to me, had been through the exact same thing, exact same person, different group project.
Group projects teach you to hate people.5 -
So, 5/10 minutes of discussion about a class i need in the code. This was with the backender.
Ofcourse the designer hears this, joins the discussion and causes another 10minutes of explaining that a photo is different then a video...
Meanwhile i took a piss and got coffee because i’m fucking tired of these discusseion. You’re a designer, why care about code other people write. Go draw something1 -
I just had the most surreal email discussion I think I've ever had...
I spent over two hours going back-and-forth over email with an enterprise DBA, trying to convince them I needed a primary key for a table. They created the table without a primary key (or any unique constraints... or indexes... but that's another discussion). I asked them to add one. Then had to justify why.
If you ever find yourself justifying why you need a primary key on a table in an RDBMS, that's the day you find yourself asking "is this real life?"
I want the last two hours of my life back. And a handful of Advil.1 -
This is the face of NPM right now.
So, Devon Govett (Parcel creator, hella lot of GitHub stars) offered to kind of standardize package.json, but faced nothing but angry NPM-CLI creator telling him that he’s a “rando from internet” and “why the fuck are you even speccing something, and why would anyone care”. No real professionally ethical discussion, no invitation to discuss things together with team, no even polite “no”.
Definitely the friendliest behavior possible, well done!

“You should automate that”
Said by me at least once to every family member.
“But I can’t, it’s impossible!”

X: Hi, regarding that ticket that you made...
You said "Implement logging to find out the culprit in site generation"...
What do you mean exactly?
Me: "Read the meeting notes, we had a full discussion on this 2 weeks ago".
X: "We don't understand it..."
Me: "As I said before, I have no experience in this tech stack... I'd expect bla to have a logging framework and I'd - for easier recognition - implement additional logging levels based on criteria <me just reading the meeting notes>"
X: But how do we do it?
...
I wish I had invented this discussion.
Because it hurts.
For the jolly of it, I had similar discussions today.
Three times to be exactly.
As I asked some dev what I should do next, put a foley catheter up his urethra or change the bed pan he wasn't amused.
Guess I'll get monday a call of HR.

My little pleasure of today.
I asked a question on Stack Overflow.
It was closed with reason: "off-topic" "tip-of-the-iceberg" question.
I followed the link to the explanation of why it was closed.
There was a discussion in metaSO, about closing or not those kind of questions.
It seems somebody "won" the discussion arguing that was the right thing to do....
I DOWNVOTED HIM.
now I feel much better.3 -
Will there be someday a messenger on DevRant? I think it can be good to continue some discussion in private and get to know each other.6

This was interview in so called startup.
BTW I don't get point in company calling themselves as startup when they are 5-6 years old, just call your self small sized company.
1 - online interview with HR, Normal.
2 - online technical interview - 1 hour of discussion with Lead.
3. On-fucking-site technical interview - ~1 hour of detailed technical discussions.
4. Coding task- submitted successfully
5. Zoom meeting to discuss on coding task - just told it was good and started discussion on their dead project which was unrelated to job position but I've worked with that kind of thing so it was fine.
6. Trial Day Onsite - Gave me to draw a fucking BPMN chart - fuck you motherfuckers - I knew it was waste of time.
Fuck this kind of Hiring process which takes >1.5 month.9 -
Let's call him Butthead.

Arguing with my girlfriend (recalled from my mind, not 100% accurate)
she: What do you expect when you buy an android?
Me: sure thing apple is more "unpack it, use it", easy to use - but android is more like an empty canvas. The first thing when I buy it is setting it up to my needs.
she: You don't understand, what do you expect from your android device?
me: It has to be affordable and work for a certain time
she: No I mean, do you.. when you unpack your phone, expect it TO WORK?
me: Sure, it's not like I buy a pile of trash, I expect it to work
she: you're too stupid, baka
me: ... ? *confused*
she: When you say it is like a canvas, isn't a canvas someday full?
me: yes, every phone, iPhone, Pixel, Samsung, every phone has a limited memory
she: *mad* you don't get it, silly
me: I want to but heh, I don't get it10 -
Our tech lead left a mess in the database. He turned his screw-up into an architectural discussion, weighing the benefits of duplicated, messy data vs. keeping it consistent. He suggested that, instead of fixing his broken script and cleaning the mess, we should break all of the other scripts and have them trash the database, too.
They almost believed it.
What a clever maneuver. I wish he would use his cleverness to make good software, instead. -
"How much of a dev are you, if you use other peoples work and just glue it together?" I once asked a friend who really loves npm and everything.

Sometimes I spend entire days working dark-to-dark with my headphones on
... without even listening to anything
And if I happen to be "in the zone", after the whole day of having my headphones on and not listening to anything, I take them off and feel like it's so quiet out of a sudden. It feels like I was in a noisy discussion (with myself) whilst I was "in the zone".
Just sharing my observations :)5 -
When you just figured out a fix for a bug, your on your way to the fix, but suddenly your co-worker asks everyone in the room "Would you rather be on a helicopter or airplane that lost all power". Then you get into a 10 minute discussion about which and why, and now that bug is permanent.5

It is fucking written in rules that SLA would be given post the discussion.
AFTER THE MOTHERFUCKING DISCUSSION.
Bitch can't read a simple English statement.
And in the SLA column, it is clearly mentioned that one must state the DATE. This idiot mentions the entire fucking Quarter.
How fucking dumb you can be to not read the basics mentioned for your own and others ease of functioning.
Indians are illiterate morons. I apologise to the entire world today on behalf of these fragmented cauliflowers.

When your egghead boss (who is a dev, BTW) fails miserably in understanding that JavaScript fetch does not behave like the default synchronous nature of requests in Python.
After failing to make him learn about the asynchronous nature of JavaScript promises, he ends the discussion by saying "that's why python is better than js"

PR reviews, people leave great comment, some suggestions and there could be a discussion.
But please don't be the person who goes there and add those weird and useless comments such: "CI failed, your PR is behind dev branch..."
That's the role of the provider(Github, Bitbucket.....) and adding that comment is just a waste of time.
This start to happen more often and I had to rant about it :D2 -
My intern was trained on 1 semester of Java, followed by 2 of Python, so there’s been several conversations at the office that boil down to:
“What’s *not* to love about Python? It’s easy to pick up, and forgiving as hell!”
“What’s *to* love about Python? I like being able to understand how my code is structured!”
As a WordPress shop, the discussion is moot, of course...4 -

Discussion Thread.
With all the frameworks and libraries available and game engines to develop games, its now easier than ever to build stuff.
With this in mind, do you think its necessary to have a core knowledge of how stuff work under the hood? Or is it okay to build upon and develop new stuffs on the foundations available today?5 -

I feel very anxious when developers interviewing me asks
1. is nodejs single threaded or multithreaded ?
2. How does node handle requests
3. How do u manage concurrency
4. What is event emitter and callback.
Dude i have given you my resume, without knowing these things i could never do that ?
I feel the discussion must be based on concepts and general problem solving rather than focusing on one technology. Tech can always be learnt.6 -
So I'm a new CS student diving head first into programming. I've already made my choice in terms of what language to learn and indent style (bracket gets its own line 😁), but I'm having trouble choosing between vim and emacs...
Without this devolving into a flame war, could we have a discussion on the pros and cons of each editor? I'm curious to see what other developers use and their experiences with each of these editors.28 -

We had today a meeting in management that ended in a discussion about prevention instead of crisis and risk management.
Or to make it bit simpler: prevention instead of treatment.
In IT / management / government, treatment is usually the way - you let the crisis happen, despite knowing it could have been prevented, and treat the damage / crisis.
Needless to say, the discussion escalated like usual.
It's funny how managers are able to put sentences like: "it's important to have quality assurance like prevention but staying within budget should be priority" (loosely translated from German, it's hard - sorry)...
You mean the budget that exploded and quadrupled in size because you dumb fuckers pay no attention to quality assurance? Or the additional cost of hardware, maintenance etc. to compensate for the fuckups regarding performance evaluation and regression testing?
"We cannot prevent everything nor anticipate everything, it's safer to deal with an estimated risk than with the unknown"...
"But we'd need to invest in ..., which reduces value"
I could give more details, but I think the point is clear... the discussion became quite heated and the longer it went on, the more I wanted to have an morphine drop with suicide option...
Why do people hate prevention so much?
Is the concept that hard to understand? You prevent things to not deal with crisis.
You invest to prevent loss.
It's just one of these weeks where the only happiness consists of tipping the delivery guy with 20 % plus and getting an honest smile.

Just had a discussion with a coworker. I noticed he was storing dates as string in mongodb, saying it was better for comparison and because he stored them in UTC. WTH, mongo already stores all dates in UTC and a string date is imposible to compare. I wasted 8 hours finding that last part out.6

Guys, I had my first REAL developer interview today. Without jinxing myself, I'd like to say it went really good. We discussed the companys upcoming projects, what they expect from a new developer, etc. but some thing that bothers me about it is there was never any discussion about my expected compensation. I'm not sure if this is common or not, but we'll see.3 -

What are your thoughts or experiences with Ruby on Rails? Does it have a bright future?
I'm currently only using PHP for server-side web stuff, but looking for ideas for more beautiful languages.
I know C#, but because 95% of web servers I work on are Linux based, it's (as far as I currently know) not an option. Or is ASP.NET Core somewhat supported on non-root (basic hosting) linux servers?7 -

today at work i (frontend dev) had an argument about some scss mixins issues, with my boss (senior dev). Not going into detail, I really thought that my method was a lot more efficient and defended my argument strongly until the end. In the end of discussion I saw/accepted that boss' method was better and he said he's nevertheless proud of me for defending what I believed was right. (it's been 2 years since I moved into this country and its language is my 5th one, so I'm only level B2, most of the time I back up from having a deep discussion knowing that my language skill won't take me that far) I really appreciated that feedback from him and it truly made my day. Thank you boss! You're cool! -
Got contacted by a potential client whose job I had bid on. Spent a couple of minutes frantically studying his specification and preparing my discussion.

The best part? I'm as Asian as he is, and all my profile pictures bear witness to that fact.

Just had a huge discussion with my boss that ended up he saying that he only is there for money and if I have a different perspective about work that I should leave. What are your thoughts about competitive coding and hackathons in general?
I sometimes feel that practices which are important for maintaining and structuring the code gets lost in the spirit of competition. Also, more hacks are kind of used to finish the assigned tasks rather than a proper approach.3 -

I mean choose the language that gets the job done and not what's your favorite if language b sucks at doing a then I chose another one. So simple but most people don't get it. It's like the pc VS console discussion. Just play both period1
-
TABS OR SPACES?
It doesn't matter what you use, but use the ome you can stand with.
DONT FUCKING EVER BULLY ONE BECAUSE HE'S NOT USING YOUR "STANDARD"
Try to have some good discussion why you should use tabs or spaces and let other opinions matter. They may have some good reason for it.
PS I'm using spaces because it wont fuck up my Code if i change the OS (Windows<->Linux Server)5 -
As a junior developer, I am not invited to most of the discussion. Lead comes to us with requirements and we need to build it. My lead is really helpful so no people issues.
I am not sure if it's good for my growth/career. I have recently ( 6 months) joined here. Do you folks have any experience like this? What did you do? Do discussions/meeting help to grow?13 -
I'm so fucking bored. Technical discussion here is not about solving problems, but a contest of who knows the most aws words...2
-
*every time we're pulled into a meeting to discuss a problem. 20 mins into discussion.*
"But that approach overlooks s-"
"THANKS GUYS. JUST KEEPING IN MIND TIME, LETS MOVE ON"
---
Move on to what? You asked to meet to discuss this problem - but I guess we should stop because `time > problem`.3 -
Because I am very interested in cyber security and plan on doing my masters in it security I always try to stay up to date with the latest news and tools. However sometimes its a good idea to ask similar-minded people on how they approach these things, - and maybe I can learn a couple of things. So maybe people like @linuxxx have some advice :D Let's discuss :D
1) What's your goto OS? I currently use Antergos x64 and a Win10 Dualboot. Most likely you guys will recommend Linux, but if so what ditro, and why? I know that people like Snowden use QubesOS. What makes it much better then other distro? Would you use it for everyday tasks or is it overkill? What about Kali or Parrot-OS?
2) Your go-to privacy/security tools? Personally, I am always conencted to a VPN with openvpn (Killswitch on). In my browser (Firefox) I use UBlock and HttpsEverywhere. Used NoScript for a while but had more trouble then actual use with it (blocked too much). Search engine is DDG. All of my data is stored in VeraCrypt containers, so even if the system is compromised nobody is able to access any private data. Passwords are stored in KeePass. What other tools would you recommend?
3) What websites are you browsing for competent news reports in the it security scene? What websites can you recommend to find academic writeups/white papers about certain topics?
4) Google. Yeah a hate-love relationship, but its hard to completely avoid it. I do actually have a Google-Home device (dont kill me), which I use for calender entries, timers, alarms, reminders, and weather updates as well as IOT stuff such as turning my LED lights on and off. I wouldn"t mind switching to an open source solution which is equally good, however so far I couldnt find anything that would a good option. Suggestions?
5) What actions do you take to secure your phone and prevent things such as being tracked/spyed? Personally so far I havent really done much except for installing AdAway on my rooted device aswell as the same Firefox plugins I use on my desktop PC.
6) Are there ways to create mirror images of my entire linux system? Every now and then stuff breaks, that is tedious to fix and reinstalling the system takes a couple of hours. I remember from Windows that software such as Acronis or Paragon can create a full image of your system that you can backup and restore at any point to get a stable, healthy system back (without the need to install everything by hand).
7) Would you encrypt the boot partition of your system, even tho all data is already stored in encrypted containers?
8) Any other advice you can give :P ?12 -
Imagine a world that only consists of humans with a developer mindset . Would it be a better or worse world?
Aside from all the food and production problems, let's say we automated it all.5 -
After 3 tech rounds and an assignment submission they finally offered me a job.
ME: I am so excited to be part of...errr do you guys work on Saturdays ?
HR: Yes! we have kept Saturdays as our hack/discussion da...
ME: See you never!!!5 -
Whenever I'm having a technical discussion with my business partner, he asks me if we can make the project/feature compatible with the Sega Saturn. I keep telling him that I cannot base my business plan on a defunct esoteric console. I think I made the right choice1
-
Are you familiar with chess? What classes/objects and methods/functions would you use to implement the game of chess? Who knows if checkmate is reached? What about timed games?
It always leads to an interesting discussion and you can easily throw out prodding questions if they get stuck. I've never had anybody give me the exact same answer, and it's been complimented post-interview a handful of times.13 -
Literally slept off during this zoom call. I just woke up I don't wth everyone is talking about. Turns out my PR was up for discussion. Now I have to review a bunch of shit I thought I was done with. OS maintainers can be a pain sometimes 😭5
-
Well, the project I've been working on is now being terminated.
As the lead dev, I found out by one of the managers sending a public message to the staffing team in one of the channels unrelated to development, which I don't normally check.
Apparently at no point in their "very long discussion" did they think they should let me know of this decision.
Tbh I'm not even suprised, I was barely ever told anything. The others aren't either.2 -
ChatGPT has an "interactive speech mode" in their app so you can use just bidirectional audio to chat and it's incredible.
I had a deep and pivoting discussion on how data is stored/formatted at disk level for each database type and it responded wonderfully.
It even sounded annoyed when I was 😅
It probably will sell my voice data now though...3 -
In appraisal discussion,
Boss : Give me good reason why should we give you 30% appraisal!!!
Employee ( After logging into prod machine) : I am going to quit this job 😅😅 -
".. after all, I'm the one with the longest experience here" is NOT a valid argument to win a technical discussion.
With an attitude like that, please piss off in the opposite direction. I hope we never cross paths again, you arrogant prick.6 -
I'd like to ask: What's trending at the moment instead....
Either I'm old and senile and missing something, or there is not really sth new.
Okay, JS might be crapping out new frameworks in their common "Not invented here" diarrhea....
But otherwise? What's really new?
I don't really know. I'm not only thinking about languages and stuff, but even in hardware there ain't really a big thing going on in my opinion.
Hab ich wat verpennt?
(Have I overslept?)
We had an interesting and frightening discussion regarding NGINX, as it is russian software today and that a new trend of a true, actively developed webserver is severely lacking... Apache looks semi dead and most other niche webservers, too.
That's all I've seen as a "trend" discussion in the latest time4 -
God bless Silenz App for Mac, I can listen to music and stay aware of the bullshit discussion around me.

What's everyone's opinion when it comes to PWA's?
Do you think they will have the potential to replace most desktop and mobile applications?
Personally think they are a great platform and could definitely see them replacing lots of current applications but feel like the web technologies can't catch up to some of the major requirements for higher level apps like game engines or games...10 -
Lets talk about our dream phone!
Here's what mine would be...
Screen: 1440p AMOLED highly saturated screen.
CPU: Snapdragon 845 (Or whatever is on top)
RAM: 4-6 GB
Storage: 16 GB internal OS reserved storage for the OS only but on the side would have 2 slots with the same locking mechanism as the sim tray to hold 2 hot swapable storage or battery modules.
OS: A modular version of stock android (By modular i mean a version of stock android that is designed to be installed on any device)
Speaker: Dual front facing stereo
Ports: 2 usb-c ports on the bottom.
Special features: A portable desktop experience that when plugged into a monitor would give a chromeOS style experience with the phone acting as a touchpad.7 -
I quite like devRant's "discussion" tab. It's a shame it's hidden away in the overflow menu (at least on android).9

Warnings are design errors.

I think is better to paste the post here, but it doesn't allow MD :(
Wanna hear your opinions.
Fuck warnings.13 -
! RANT
Yesterday I went to pool campus recruitment drive and there were 3 rounds
1. Written aptitude test
2. Group Discussion
3. F2F interview
Cleared first round and got selected for second round out of like 80 students. (15-18 got selected)
Went to group discussion first topic was "Donald Trump Administration is threat to IT for Indian or not" and the all were saying he stopped giving visa to Indians, there is no opportunity for us there because of him and I was like wtf... And they think because of Trump, Indian people from Infosys got kicked out hahahaha wtf is this.
Second was how AI and Digitalization can help in growth of nation.
And again those girls hahahah one girl said by using AI we can make new technology and can explore galaxies. What the fathafucking fuck!!
And YES THEY GOT SELECTED.
(Whole HR team was non technical)5 -
Discussing with the boss:
boss: < How is it going? >
me: < I'm trying to rewrite this horrible javascript code with typescript >
boss: < But release cannot support typescript >
me: < I can compile typescript locally and then release >
boss: < You are not listening to me! we can not execute a script in typescript >
me: < In fact we will use a script in javascript >
boss: < So why are you rewriting it in typescript? >
And so the discussion continued for another 20 minutes...8 -
Not sure how to feel.
Just landed on a stackoverflow querstion. Originated by myself 5 years ago. With a long discussion and a solution.
Sooo how the fuck I don't remember it at all ?3 -
Just a small discussion topic, if you could look through the source code ad have full access to 1 project/application/game/moon base forever, what would you choose and why?
For me, I would love to go through the source code for the game Hyper Light Drifter, would love to see some of the inner workings and just learn new methods of doing things.10 -
I've finally quit my job today! It's been too long a time in the making. I was absolutely terrified but turned it into a positive discussion (considering the circumstances).
Looking forward to jumping into the interview grind once again, to return after a short sabbatical. It won't be pretty. Shitty jobs are abundant. Recruiters who know jack shit are incoming. Brace yourselves. Here's to finding something worthwhile! Cheers2 -
How to switch from linux to windows?
There is a lot of discussion online how to switch in a opposite way, but none on my case. As I am switching jobs, I will have to work using a windows machine. Any tips on how to feel more at home?5 -
Coworker and dev lead had a discussion about newsletter implementation last friday.
I told them, i’ve tried the setup before, it’s not gonna work, it’s behind an ip-block and they need a backend person.
Lead was convinced it was possible and started drawing stuff.
End result: wasn’t possible.
People really need to start listening around here... -
Ok so there are a lot of things out there like #WhyIUseLinux, well as a Linux lover that is stuck using windows, I say we start a 'why I use windows' discussion.
For me, I'm stuck on windows simply because the game development engine I use is only on windows and mac and doesn't seem to play nicrly when run on a VM, if the software was released on Linux I would swap over in a heart beat!5 -

I really hope copilot can make us have the discussion about what right companies have to exploit publically accessible work as fodder for their machine learning systems that they earn money on. Copilot is 100% about trying to monetize githubs users without paying for it.4

Feature request
Could we have some kind of way to see who created the post in the comments? Like an OP mark or a different color of the name or something?
When reading long quality rants I tend not to notice the username, and then when I'd like to engage in the discussion I have to scroll all the way up to check it.2 -
In CS class I had a only 10 lines long python script (everything else was commented out). It didn't work and I searched the bug for ca 20 minutes. I asked a class mate (who commented the other code out) if he could figure it out and he just says: "The indention of the comment is wrong". We had a discussion that it doesn't matter how to indent comments. In the end he selected all the lines, pressed tab and it just worked ?!?!6

So recruiters seem to cause a lot of trouble for the members here so I thought maybe we as a community can write an open letter and publish it somewhere. If a large enough group of us signs it, it might get some traction and start a discussion.
It would be nice if recruiters were made aware of the problems people are facing in the recruitment process, and we too can hear about the realities they are facing with candidates and clients.
We can send this letter to any recruiter as a reply to bad recruitment practice, so it can have practical and educational value too.
Yay or nay?1 -
I'm surprised how there's not much discussion about E3 here
Anyone?
What are your thoughts on the surprises of this day?3 -
When recruiters send you shit like this:
"I have an exciting opportunity on hand that I hope will be very much of interest. Please share your best contact number / time to call for a confidential discussion. Kindly find my contact number below if you want to contact me directly. Thank you and look forward to hearing from you."
Just fucking tell me the position you are hiring for! It saves time 😡2 -
In searching for 2 days now if python is a scripting language or programming language, it seems to be a Neverending discussion...9

So today I was having this discussion with my colleague regarding a messed up pull request.
Me: are you done merging the remaining branches into master?
Colleague: no, I'm still merging the changes manually.
Me: but why?
Colleague: because the changes will overwrite the changes in master.
Me: but how? It will just conflict and you can keep whichever changes YOU WANT. You can even edit before committing the merge.
Colleague: I'm just redoing the changes manually anyway.
Me: -_- -

Does anyone remember BASIC?
10 PRINT "Hello World!"
20 GOTO 10
I learned it when I had my Commodore 64. Recently I've gotten the itch to dive back in the development world. So I'm refreshing my memory on HTML and CSS (yes I know they're not programming languages) then move on to JavaScript and either React or Angular. Hopefully I will be able to contribute more to discussion on here than just lurk.19 -
Took a half day for a dental appointment and got a root canal done. Still not as painful as the meeting this afternoon. SOAP vs REST discussion which developed into JSON vs XML. I am getting NOTHING done.3

MaterialUI? Is it shit?
A brand new code base. Old codebase (old employees) used MaterialUI, locking in a lot of the styling and layout in their grids.
I'm trying to identify the pros/cons that can come from experience using the framework.
Some questions to spark discussion:
Anyone used this in production for a period of time?
Did it hold up? Did the designers hate it?
How was mixing this with SASS etc.
Cheers8 -
Recent discussion with ele gave me an idea to post this question here.
Which type of company should a fresh CS graduate work for? A corporate or a startup or a SME.
My advice for newbies is on SME for first few years. Then decide on your own based on your personality and career goals for future years.16 -
Elixir/Phoenix developers, what are your opinions on Ruby/Rails and vice-versa?
(Not trying to start a war here 😅, just some heathy discussion)3 -
For fucks sake you mfugging frigging fucktards, whatever you did to your brain undo it before coming to work.
I'm not allowed to smash your head repeatedly in the desk but believe me I'll find a way to do so legally.
And if u show up smashed and trashed in a discussion just shut the fuck up you idiotic moron
Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
Why do people even go to work when it's seemingly just to terrorize other people?6 -
Given how much talk there's around security, I think it'd be grand idea to dedicate a weekly rant to cybersecurity. Could spark an interesting discussion, especially in today's heated climate. Thoughts?
E.g. Best way to increase security/privacy?9 -
After having a pretty long discussion about sports on here, i figured it might be a good idea to make a group chat for sports discussion. So theres a discord invite link (let me know if I'm doing it wrong, I've never really used Discord lol). Feel free to join and invite any of your dev friends that would like it.

Why does Google have to buy big billboard ads at the bus stops to convince people to use Google search?
Did Google finally realize that despite being the best search engine, many of their results are still pretty shitty?
Or do they merely want to distract from the anti-FAANG (don't) be evil discussion?5 -
After CSS Grid and Flexbox, I don't see the need for frameworks (except for utilities like margin and padding).
Change my mind 🙂4 -
It is so funny how this PM got dizzy when I started detailing all the possibilities of her generic requirements and asking for clarification and we started drawing how the fuck she wants in to be.
But "just put all data on the report" should be simple, right?
Not a 2 hours discussion on one topic out of 10, right?
Not.3 -
Hating small talk is what most tech guys would do. What's the point in indulging in it when you can not talk?
But there are times when you're cornered and can't do much about it. I figured out a way in which i can use this, still.
So whenever pushed into small talk i tend to tilt the conversation in the direction of the current problem I'm working on. I would then use the other guy as a sounding board to talk out the problem aloud. Helps me in clarifying my own thought. Also if i haven't already bored the other guy to death and the guy seems genuinely interested, i get a few pointers too.1 -
Just had a discussion with a support person, it seems I need or use safari or opera OS to be able to watch a recording of an open class I has.
The platform they jse works on with flash (fucking hate it), and it seems linux is not supported because I need to install flash.
I was just reporting a stupid bug, I am watching these on my phone and staying away from installing flash.
God dammit.1 -
Let's start a discussion about how dev ranters make some beer money. I start: i've built an app for my town and the restaurants pay me to edit their entry and accept bookings from the useres. I spoke with the tourism office and their where happy to promote the app. What do you do?
-
Do you usually spend some of your time learning new programming language/pattern/technology? I mean, I am not the type of person who does same thing over and over again, also like learning new things (I spend a lot of time per month studying new things), trying to get experience and trying new technics, but other side of me thinks that I need to be the best in one of them... My mind flashes blue screen of death sometimes when I am thinking about this...2

I belong to a Javascript discussion forum on social media where people post dumb questions that have been answered a million times in stack overflow or ask ‘Can I learn {JS framework} without knowing JS? Only there to answer questions because I am 100 percent non-contributing idiot at my current job.

If you are going to maintain empty directories in your git repo then use the strategy of placing a file inside the directory called .gitkeep. Searching on this filename will lead you to a discussion of the same topic (hopefully, maybe not). Which includes a lengthy discussion on how the semantics of the file name is somehow more important than the answer of keeping the directory in the repo. My favorite part was someone claiming the file name .gitkeep was the standard way of maintaining a directory and others jumping on this person saying not it is NOT the standard way, and that in fact any filename would work. Misunderstanding that saying it was the standard probably only referred to placing a file and not choosing that exact name.
Basically it seemed to turn into an autists semantics fistfight in the comments.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
Someone is that discussion claimed .gitkeep would lead to confusion if it was a standard git filename. I then found this:

She: Hello, I am ABC from XYZ. We saw your profile and interested to discuss an intern opportunity with you.

She: Sorry but we are looking for Web Developer for our website to work on jQuery.
Me: oh! It's okay. [ fuck 😐]1 -
I once had a heated discussion with another developer over whether AngularJS is backend or frontend. For some reason he believed it's a backend framework.1

I don't know how to make this happen:
Me:
"And this is what the customer... wants?"
Someone:
"Yes."
Me:
"Oh ... could you devote a few more brain cycles to this discussion and tell me that again?"
Someone:
"Sure .... oh ... yeah this is horrible... I'll go find out what they really want"1 -
This is a little shameful, but i dont tell people i do IT since it leads to a , "wow you must be really smart, i could never do computer science" discussion.
Alot easier to connect with people without a plethora of stereotypes attatched to your SEO of a name3 -
So, it appears that when you have a disagreement about something with our new head of development, he puts you on a ‘shit’ list and the does everything he can to make you want to quit.
Tried to make out that your not integrating with the teams, excludes you from any discussion that you might have any opinions about, talks down to you and is generally two faced about everything he says.
Well f**k him.1 -
Who says 'Hmm' in a business chat???!!!
For God's sake, at least have some mannerisms before joining a business discussion. Did 'OKAY' or 'OK' have too many letters to type??!!!!!11 -
People love to be opinionated.
If for whatever reason you don't like something, you are gonna shout. If it does not affect anything nor improves anything - you gonna shout!
Seems familiar? Yep. Talking about devs. Opinion is everything here and the louder you shout - the better.

Saturday evening open debate thread to discuss AI.
What would you say the qualitative difference is between
1. An ML model of a full simulation of a human mind taken as a snapshot in time (supposing we could sufficiently simulate a human brain)
2. A human mind where each component (neurons, glial cells, dendrites, etc) are replaced with artificial components that exactly functionally match their organic components.
Number 1 was never strictly human.
Number 2 eventually stops being human physically.
Is number 1 a copy? Suppose the creation of number 1 required the destruction of the original (perhaps to slice up and scan in the data for simulation)? Is this functionally equivalent to number 2?
Maybe number 2 dies so slowly, with the replacement of each individual cell, that the sub networks designed to notice such a change, or feel anxiety over death, simply arent activated.
In the same fashion is a container designed to hold a specific object, the same container, if bit by bit, the container is replaced (the brain), while the contents (the mind) remain essentially unchanged?
This topic came up while debating Google's attempt to covertly advertise its new AI. Oops I mean, the engineering who 'discovered Google's ai may be sentient. Hype!'
Its sentience, however limited by its knowledge of the world through training data, may sit somewhere at the intersection of its latent space (its model data) and any particular instantiation of the model. Meaning, hypothetically, if theres even a bit of truth to this, the model "dies" after every prompt, retaining no state inbetween.16 -
I hate all of the OS/langs circlejerks. I think anyone participating in them (in a serious manner) needs to fucking grow up and learn the concept of tools. TL;DR for any OS/lang discussion: Use the right tools for the right job.3

Hi all,
I'm in this company for about 15 months. It's one of the big name company. I'm a senior dev here. In my team we follow agile development. In starting I was just working on my part mostly. Then my manager raised concern to me for not taking ownership and helping others.
I started doing things what I could do. Like code review, API discussion, design discussion etc..
Now, the thing is I usually get upset when people go with 'lazy' solutions because I feel bad design leads to maintenance overhead, and it happened to us in past. We had to spend weekends to make things work. So, I started making code review, design review strict.
Some people didn't like it. But my manager was supportive, or at least I think so.
Some days back manager took me in a one-o-one discussion and told me one of the colleague kinda complained against me.
Now, my manager is not involving me into design discussions and API discussions. There are some new features are coming and I am not informed. I get to know things only in scrum-updates.
Am I about to get fired? I'm not gonna lie, I'm so scared. I can't put down papers as I'm already into 4th company in 7 years.
This thought is just killing me. What should I do? I'm so alone.7 -
For once I actually read the discussion threads in Facebook about COVID all morning basically commenting saying "are you people stupid, use your ducking brains" but basically just said believe what u want...
But wow did I get pissed off... Probably even worse than my rants about my team...
So guess I finally understand the negative and divisive effects of social media now...1 -
More a positive rant...
Just casually looked into an invitation to a collab tool my workplace set up for discussing optimizations of workflows, internal collabs, communication, yada yada...
Just to figure out, that there's A LOT of room for improvement being discussed and new ideas related to our work. Which is fucking great! Like "Hey we could maybe introduce A/B testing for our software" or "We should change the way our CI/CD works".
One of the best things I've seen so far: "We should do smth about (react) component XY, as it currently holds many configurable parameters for look and feel with too many possibilities" ... these components are like each 1 big file or so, that covers EVERY possibility. I had a feeling in my gut that some things were built quite complicated, but originally with a good idea/intention in mind. I thought that I just needed time to get used to new things. Now I know that I need to learn nevertheless but that things NEED improvement and that others agree on that, too.
I think this is a good sign when a company tries to reflect on itself to become better.2 -
!rant
is pre-debugging a good thing?
I have a habit of implementing a project(for e.g. a mobile app) like this: See the project, break the tasks to be done into small parts(Like UI layouts- setting, listeners to implement , graphics involved, background threads required, databases necessary, etc.)and then code each of them step by step , while simultaneously testing their working (For all possible test cases I could think of ) side - by side. this results in my project getting developed in far more time than other people, but I always have something good and working all times to show to my bosses. But I really feel stupid when I spend 2 hours handling the animations and ui while I have yet to look into databases and other more important stuff
I guess that's a habit from my good old python days(its IDLE was a playstation for me) but I wish to know better approaches,if any?4 -
We just finished a small discussion or debate about why we should use uuid instead of other field or property like name.
Gets funnier when you know the guy who started the debate proposed uuids few weeks ago.
My vp engineer and junior frontend (that's the team) both said "having not strong feeling about one or the other"
While they were finishing that sentence I started this rant.1 -
Soft phones are better than webphones because soft phones use SIP...an hour long discussion ensues. Sigh.9

Had a discussion with a fellow coworker about users experience.
This guy actually trying to convince me that the backend is more important for ux then the ui. And this guy is a senior with over 12 years experience. Damn this one is really stupid 🤦♂️🤦♂️14 -
What do you guys think of forced linters (checkStyle) on java assignments?
At this University we have a submission system that checks for your code where if a line didn't match the coding specification then it's an instant zero.
Being experienced in programming before going to a university, this somewhat surprised me, it also has unit tests implemented in it where it checks against input and output.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Is it too much for people who unlike me never seen code before? Or let them have hell and understand how to deal with it? I personally think it's too much for beginners.3 -
More of a collection of suggestions:
No matter the platform, which proprietary software have you replaced with open source ones that function the same or better? I'll start in the comments.5 -

We were refining a tech debt issue about aligning the names and types of the same reference id on different response models. This is to not confuse our API users and make it more intuitive.
Discussion was wrapping up as we all agreed it was a no-brainer and pretty straight forward.

I once had this discussion with my manager
Me: Hey i have an idea to improve our overall system but since it requires design changes which may break the system , can you provide me an experimental environment to implement and test it.
Manager: you should write code in a way you can flight it (disable/enable any changes)
I was totally out of words.... Who the hell flights a system design change?! -
The go-getter boss sets us up on basecamp. ( Mind you, this is just two weeks after starting us on Slack )
The first topic of discussion he puts out is "What would you suggest to improve meetings?" Considering the business genius has cancelled the past 5 office meetings, I replied with "The key to a successful meeting is actually having them."
Basecamp's been pretty quite ever since.1 -
Open leetcode, try to convince myself to use rust for leetcode to learn rust
Got so confused
Open discussion
Got tired of opening discussion every time
Wrote a plug-in for chrome that automatically loads discussion code at the submission page
Never touched leetcode again lmao2 -
(slightly off topic) but we had a discussion about a kinder chocolate advert yesterday. The one where "Teddy is very very not very well" I was surprised at how it split the developers. My view was that a 'very' cancels out 'not very' leaving teddy 'very well'. The alternative view was each 'very' increments the 'not very' status.
I just thought I'd throw that out there for you all!7 -
Last night my subconscious shifts into management monologue mode imagining me and my managers in dialogues discussing all the problems that they're missing using management teens and references to the Phoenix Project, which I reminded I told them to read 4yrs ago in my first discussion after joining the team....
But basically mind was sorta on fire while half asleep?
Woke up this morning, and calm so wondering... Is this the stuff that my dreams are, except usually I don't remember anything.... -
We had a discussion about coding style. At one point I said that it’s his personal opinion and not an objective fact. He went full on rage mode and said that he takes this as an personal attack. Then another dev chimed in, telling me to listen to the older devs, because they know more.
Not really a big fight, but stuff like this makes me mad as hell.1 -
Having a discussion with my manager about how interesting I find the job and what I want to focus on and me trying to answer truthfully without just saying I want a different job...4

I gotta write a quick mailing solution for an email discussion list, given a budget, so i'm like, ok, cool, let me check out sendgrid api, etc, whatever, right?
Wrong! 10000 members, with an email volume of about 100 messages per member, per day, meaning you're sending at least 100*1000 msgs/day ... or 3 million messages a month!
With most services you're looking at like $2,000 right there. My budget was $100.
So.... wtf. How would you use an api to host a discussion list... seems impractical?
I see no discussion about it, no service addresses it, nothing.
Email discussion list. Can someone point me in the right direction?5 -

Do you think Linux distros will be used less in future because of M$ and Android OS improvements?

I'm a python guy, and although I've worked with bash, there's always a discussion on which one is best for Linux automation.

Virtual Machines on a SSD: Yes or no? Good or Evil?
What's your opinion?

Trying to understand why there is an absurd amount of tooling for most nodejs apps. Is this present in other languages as well? Is it worth learning? From my viewpoint as a new developer, it seems like there should be more consolidation there. Or a more elegant way to build1

I spent a major part of last week writing my third blog post. Last weeks topic was the alias command, I did lots of reading and I came up with an article I think would be interesting.
You can read the article on https://munawrites.me/2020/06/...
I would really love to read your feedback on what your thoughts are on the alias command.4 -
I love searching for things like "which is the best online learning site" on the Internet and seeing strongly opinionated answers. Like, I don't need your political correctness telling me that it depends! I just need your opinion based on your personal experience! This is why I love Reddit and other discussion sites.
-
Send an email.
Or, more seriously: invite only people who must be there, and can add something to the discussion, have an agenda, stick to it, and plan the meeting so that it ends at the start of lunch break. That way everybody will be interested in finishing on time or earlier. -
Worst CS teacher experience was the prof who undermined the entire class's confidence in the CS program. Anytime the discussion turned to department business he brought EVERYTHING out, he played up what he oerceived to be shortcomings, and (at the 400-level) it made a lot of people question the value of their work thus far.

Innovative ideas
Build something interesting -
Found someone who had a similar idea then me.😮
(Except, mine was 2 years ago and I'm working on it since)😎
Thought i'd be nice, talk or write with him about stuff.
Went to his github repo and opened up a few issues about certain design decisions and problems that he and I face because of our environment.
His reaction was mostly like "meh, doesn't matter, to individual, trivial, ...
"🙃
I think he didn't even try to understand me or what I meant, or what that implies.
I don't know if I behaved like a dick, or if he is.😑
Just tried to be nice and Interact in a usefull way.

after much discussion we removed the "implemented" column in our task board, now 10 homeless tickets stuck between "in progress" and "in review"

I just read a news article on a tech site. And there was an actual intelligent discussion going on in the comments for more then 50 posts2

I hate those people that comment on threads saying shit like “just google it” or “oh fuck another [insert popular topic] thread we don’t need another one.” Fuck off. It’s an online discussion forum. If it’s shit content the mods will remove it, otherwise no one is forcing your sorry, lonely pathetic ass to stop scrolling, click the thread, and read the god damn post. Just fucking turn off your computer and read a book.2

What do you do when you're stuck at a piece of code ?
When you've tried every possible solution you can think of.
When you've been through all the options/discussion over the Internet regarding the thing and haven't found any solution.
And specially when you're working alone.
Is it happening to me only? Or anyone else have faced this too.7 -

I: So why i wrote Leximo framework to separate me from the WordPress shit?
He: Because you don't know ho to use it.
I: Google: list of WP frameworks

Discussion ended. Nobody knows how to use WP i gues. I feel hated. WP community hates me because u wrote another framework, Nette and Latte community hates me because i use them for shit like WordPress. -

Let's have a discussion, devRant style:
Fuck history, git rebase to the rescue! Especially interactive rebase is a power tool. I use it all the time.
At this moment I won't argue why or why not. Let's hear what you have to say! -
So how do people feel about the ignored people, I haven't done it with anyone so don't know what people really feel.
I mean you are sitting there and they are literally not talking to you because you are very shy. Your name is not called out in a discussion even when you are one of the developers whose project is talked about, you were just ignored because you didn't speak up.
What do people really think about the people they ignore?8 -
What do you people do if you feel like you are in rut? I mean I love programming and I love my job but currently I'm working on feature that has turned into a almost a never ending feature because of bad planning so know I feel like I'm stuck in that feature even though I'm working on side projects also but still I know I have to push and finish THAT project. Any tips/suggestions or things that you do to overcome these situations.7

Manager: Just to let you know, I am not a fool.
Me (as a junior developer): I understand.2 -
Are there any good collabs from devrant which are widely in use? Or may be a finished app/product?
Asking after a discussion with a friend and sadly I can't name any. :| -
Throughout most of my programming career so far, I haven't had too many fights or major arguments with other developers, which is probably some kind of miracle. Although I think this stems from where each job I have been in (except 1 job), I seem to have much more knowledge than the other developers. So even if an argument/discussion would come up, I could usually reason with them logically.
-
A question or more discussion / looking for feedback.
Let's say we have
Application Firewall
- Application Routing
-- API Gateway
Then lots of containers.
Would you use host based routing in the containers?
It seems wrong to me, as in my opinion it breaks the boundary the API gateway provides.
Maybe someone can share his experience, I'd be delighted.5 -
I installed MS visual studio on my company's machine a year back and never really used it. In discussion with a colleague, he said that I shouldn't have the software because our company doesn't have license for it. I wonder why Microsoft would let me download it in the first place.6

I recently got into an argument with a random person on internet about the new Corsair XENEON FLEX OLED, the new fancy one that you can make curved or flat…
In my opinion it doesn't make any sense, curved is better, in particular with a 45" display, so it's a cool technology but useless in this case.
Apparently this guy thinks "for work is better flat, for gaming curved".
It made me thinking… really?
There is someone out there (and maybe here) that uses huge flat monitors or when have 2 puts them parallels to each other and not turned towards himself at an angle?
It seemed a random bullshit, but maybe I could find some valid arguments why "flat is better for work" or not. 🤔12 -
Yesterday we had discussion on with developers about continuous deployment. When I asked one of the senior developers why they can't uncommit what commits you made to integration branch and which led to integration test failures. He said it's against the basic philosophy of git to uncommit... I don't know how git works...but seriously you can't use previous version of code or can't uncommit??6

So yesterday there was a discussion at my company about what would be more user friendly for deleting an item or items from a list. Long Press or swipe. We came to an agreement that depends on the UX and choice. What do you think?6

Hey, where is a good place to ask for ideas of solutions to abstract problems? Like a feature-request on something you've not built before? Like for discussion purposes to start ideas flowing? Reddit? Here, DevRant?
The only one I can think of is StackOverflow. But my impression on its purpose is that it is more for questions with concrete anwsers/solutions to them. -
Is git a history of what happend or a list intentional changes?
Had this discussion with my boss. He said i shouldn't rebase my feature branch because it is too much hassle (I did some squashing and fixups). I should just commit on top and merge master into my branch.
What is your git philosophy?
Do you "own" a feature branch until you create the PR?6 -
Had a discussion about the future post- covid.
He said he and his friends don't go out much now bc of it.

Status meetings. Jesus, some people don’t understand the concept of “take your discussion offline”
Yeah, we get it. You have questions... we are not all wasting our time to fix your issues in one meeting.
“Take it the fuck offline” -
Well once someone tell you please give more effort at work and you provide your maximum then he finds it not enough.
I guess it will be more than fair to leave without any discussion.3 -
knowing new technology in the trend, told the seniors, and have a discussion on that new stuff. Good way learn old and new technology at same time, cause they like to compared news with the old one.

there was a post about banning of Alex Jones and a pretty interesting discussion unravelled under it.
To those who participated, and are interested in the topic, I recommend watching this video with new information, kind of proving my point from that discussion and elaborating on it.
(For example, Mastercard is now revoking cards from people with... "incorrect opinions", it seems)

That's a little irritating and bemusing at the same time. About 24 hours ago I was involved in a discussion about DS on this very platform, and now my FB feed is full of DS ads. Not even verbally discussing the topic, just the posts here in DR. I'd be fascinated to know how they did that.2

I'm curious about where have you learned coding? I had learned Java most of my life, in a university course since the age of 15. It was a special programming course for high school students and out of 6000 students who applied I was one of the lucky 50 that got in after 3 huge tests in logical thinking and math. This was the path I took to have this job now as a full time software engineer. I'm interested to know how all of you guys learned programming and when have you started. Feel free to tell about apps or programs you use as I'd like to further increase my knowledge in other languages too ☺4

Is ECMAScript a dialect of Lisp?
"JavaScript has much in common with Scheme. It is a dynamic language. It has a flexible datatype (arrays) that can easily simulate s-expressions. And most importantly, functions are lambdas. Because of this deep similarity, all the functions in [recursive programming primer] 'The Little Schemer' can be written in JavaScript."

I’m excited to be a speaker at Bridges Summit on August 28th, and will be leading a community discussion! Bridges Summit is a free virtual event that bridges research and industry communities, leading a collaborative open source initiative to reframe “Developer Productivity”. We’re taking a step back to think about what we are aiming for, and bringing clarity to that vision with the power of collaboration, and the wisdom from all of our years of experience.
Come join us for an amazing community discussion around this important topic.

So I wanted to learn rust, and I was thinking: practice is the best way so naturally I went on to leetcode
After spending 4 hours to solve two questions I was like: fuck it, why do I need to go back and forth to the discussion page, why not just show it to me.
So now I spent 4 days to develop a chrome extension that shows the top 10 solutions in the discussion page for a specific question with specific language.
I showed to friend and she was like: you look at the discussion?
The moment I realized that I developed a hot pile of garbage3 -

Wanted to discuss about this AMP framework by Google. I have developed with it for my company and have been having mixed feelings about it.
On one end, it gives you the power of Google cache, declarative layout and all.
But still, it seems to be too restrictive and filled with bizarre rules that often could have been avoided if they just made guidelines for normal "web pages" to be better and not yet another framework to build "AMP pages".
One more (and probably the biggest) thing. AMP is Open Source... But can it be really considered Open if the biggest player in its development is a single corporation?4 -
Typical discussion here between a fullstacker, frontender and designer: its this functionality, no its that functionality. But parents and childs. But javascript! No i want this to be this name. No that name is better. Im in the middle of this :(1

Leftists think they will get to a better world by banning everything they deem will fuel hatred.
You can see the spammers trying to prevent a discussion by spewing bile and hatred themselves (LOL) and spam in the comment section.
They hate successful people and want to knock them down and make the world a boring place. Goddamn evil people!9 -
