Just realized I'm using an almost decade old Acer aspire laptop for programming. And its still useful because Linux.18

Team Lead: Anyone has any concern on their tasks? I'll see what I can do to help.
Me: Yeah I'm afraid I would not be able to finish my task on time because of its complexity.
Team Lead: Try harder.
What's the point of asking?11 -
Boss: lets set the domain to <productName>1.com.
Me: ok ... why 1?
Boss: ... because its version 1 of the software.
Me: .....
Boss: People will get it6 -
When you see a web service API accepting a SQL query in one of its JSON fields and the evil starts growing within you..
DROP ALL DATABASES
Just because you can!4 -
This morning Google asked me to come away from a search and into this dark portal to begin its underground recruiting process w/ me. Humbled += Intrigued.
This is a rant because they also gave me a deadline and I have other deadlines, Google!
But the REAL question is: tabs or spaces, Google?8 -
Person: Oh! blablabla.onion isn't working. It must be the government censoring it.
Me: No, its because you're trying to open a onion website in Google Chrome.2 -
You know what I realized we should always say no for demo driven application development.
We should always ask for enough time do a proper development and if its not enough, shouldn’t write a single line.
Because once we deliver a working demo. Its release ready for them because its FUCKING WORKING..
And trying to explain why this is just a demo and cant be put to production is even bigger pain in the ass than saying no in the beginning.
LESSON LEARNED .4 -
Spent my entire evening figuring something out (I'm new to this) and finally found a possible solution.
Got ready for writing test code, very excited...... aaaaaaand noticed its past 11pm so I've got to go to bed because work tomorrow
😥😭19 -
I love how most of my friends that said they "like computers because its easy and you get a high paying job doing nothing" are quitting college in less than a year because "its too hard!"2
-
React is actually pretty nice. Im probs saying this because it handles oop stuff like java would and im extremely fucking biased, but its a lot more enjoyable than angular.
Also if you get the joke in this pic (found in the react tutorial), hats off to you, it made me lol7 -
I installed a firmware update on my router, and discovered it both adds telemetry and breaks the navigation in firefox. 🤦♀️
It also started complaining that my password isn't secure (despite its length) because it doesn't contain a symbol.
Good freaking job.10 -
Just discovered that we are loading 200k for a custom font on one of our platforms...
200k FOR A FUCKING FONT?!? FOR REAL??? ITS NOT EVEN FUCKING DIFFERENT ON SIGHT!
So I sarcastically asked why the fuck are we using it and my coworker said its because the designer designed (duh) the layout this way...
Look... Usually I'm a quiet person and I don't rant in real life but this time I could not restrain myself.15 -
Had a discussion with a developer about security. His software transfers all user data (password and files) unencrypted, so anyone can grab them with wireshark. I told him that this is a severe issue. He said no its no problem because if you get hacked its your own fault, because you probably used an insecure network. NO ! YOU FUCKING MALADJUSTED SHEEP-MOLESTING OBJECT OF EXECRATION, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS ENCRYPT SENSITIVE USERDATA NO MATTER WHAT NETWORK YOU USE. FUCKING KILL ME ALREADY.
Not implementing encryption is one thing but then acting like its no problem is a fucking nother one. Why do people not understand that security of userdata is important???11 -
FUCKING TIMESHEETS!!!
"Have you got your timesheets?"
NO, I FUCKING DONT, BECAUSE I WAS ACTUALLY WORKING A ROLLOUT, MY FUCKING TIMESHEET ITS A FACT, SOFTWARE WORKS = I WORKED, SOFTWARE DOESN'T WORK FUCK ME IN THE ASS WITH A TIMESHEET!!!!!!!1 -
One of my top 10 worst meetings, was for an interview for a job I really wanted. The guy started off the technical interview by asking me about language features that had been replaced since before I started learning the language. Told him when I started learning and his reply was:
"Yeah I see that on your CV, but come on, you MUST know this stuff".
eh no asshole, because its been removed for 4 years, you MUST know its not relevant10 -

Got rejected by a company in Italy because in order to work for them remotely apparently I need to have Italian VISA. Tried to reason with them that I'm an EU citizen and I don't need a VISA but they wouldn't budge. Its either VISA or ASTALAVISTA16

Me: 'im doing frontend here, i wont bother with the server stuff'
Pm: 'ok'
...
Me: 'here i finished the full stack because the backend team is a bunch of jackasses'
Pm: 'did you set up the server?'
...
Me: 'no because its not my job'
Pm: 'you have to do it'
Sometimes it makes me wonder if he even knows how programming works.14 -
Recruiters, please understand that only because Java and Javascript share same Letters its not the same language ! Just like Ham and Hamster are not the same thing3
-
I just thought this would be a good place to find beta testers. Mainly because the developer is prone to get bored and if they encounter a bug they will be a lot more helpful than "its not working"

When you have to wake up by 4am because of an early morning meeting. Its almost 2 am and still wide awake. Fucking brain5

When you're coding on a VM so slow that it takes at least 5 seconds for eclipse to save your changes, all because company thinks its too risky to have source code on the bloody physical machine6

Yeah sure Phillips, Lets not support android 7. Because when you make an electronic device controlled by an app that helps people with chronic pain. I'm sure those people would like to spent their afternoon finding out how to downgrade android just to keep using it.
The device is called pulserelief and when its working its great :) but when you're in pain you really are NOT IN THE MOOD TO DOWNGRADE YOUR ANDROID VERSION. -
Want to hide this devRant apps on android but how?
Because everytime my wife see this devRant, she say, wtf this app? So many bad word, so many "fuck", you must avoid see bad words too much ,she said. Lol its true but still happy to see it, because its damn true. I love to see people say the truth19 -
The fucking hubris on some people... If you don't understand git, in a shop that uses git, how in the name of fucking odin's nutsack do you think you're qualified to be a senior dev? I'm not talking understanding the internals of git, I'm talking knowing WTF a branch even is! Oh, I know, its because you eat lunch with the bossman! Cronyisn is alive and well folks! Now I gotta fix all this shit, or its my fault...3
-
When I hear, "master/slave" I don't think about terminology and syntax for a programming language I dislike because of its silly functional indent requirements. I think of jumper settings on IDE hard disks in the '90s. Primary master, secondary master, primary slave, secondary slave.2
-
God i love this site. Because its not a place to fix problems its not a place to share knowledge its not even just programmers hanging out and talking about their projects, no this site is as close as you can get to screaming into the void and still get sympathy
-
I like PHP.
It's not as bad as its reputation. Just because it's easy to learn, does not mean it's bad. In fact, with a framework like Laravel or Zend it's not so simple and keeps the whole spaghetti code developers away, which led to the bad reputation.9 -
Sorry bitch raised her voice at me because “it’s ITs job to change a lightbulb!” BITCH! I will shove that fucking lightbulb down your throat.... and I’ll make damn sure it busts so you NEVER raise your annoying fucking voice at me again.13

IntelliJ!! In my opinion its the best IDE for Java and Kotlin and it supports you to code better
And I got it for free because I'm a student :D4 -
Just purchased my work machne on yesterday 😍😍😍 It's so gorgeous, been dreaming about it for the last 6 weeks. It's the Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe. I waited that much because its release date was in mid May, but it was only available for purchase in late May/Early June11

Software engineering is becoming main stream.
It will become the average job in the future. Anyone who cant dev is going to be poor and do the dirtiest jobs.
Dev average income is going to drop, mainly because a shit loads of frameworks and dumbification of software and code creation will be set in place to accomodate large population as devs.
The will create a seperation between the normal idiot dev who will be paid minimum wage and the smart ones that create the frameworks and dumbed down code creating tools.
Its oversimplified obviously because im not taking into account sys admin and so on but in general it will follow that trend. Its like this today but because there isnt enough devs, idiots are still revered and payed big bucks.
Give it 50 to 75 years imo.4 -
Difference between frontend and backend as explained by a tech "founder" I recently spoke to -
Any website's landing page/home page is frontend, but if you go Home -> Profile -> Settings page, that's backend because, it's in the "back" so you know, its... the backend.
So yeah....37 -
In the next 40 years devRant will be non-existential because developers wont be there anymore, you know why?
AI takes over the world.. writes its own code and build new products.
Suck it.

For the past two years, I worked my balls off to deliver a project that eventually went live months ago.
But boss announced that no bonus is going to be paid because project got delayed.
Its not even my fault that project got delayed because customer cannot confirm requirements and keep changing.
All of my assigned tasks were also met on time, if not earlier.7 -

Finally!
My first electric guitar was around $25, and apart from terrible sound, some notes were just off or dead because of its construction. Having no money, I was demotivated because I couldn't play what I wanted not because of me, but because of my equipment. When depression struck, I quit playing guitar altogether.
Now, because of my brilliant doctors, my therapy works, and the desire to play is born again. But now I can finally get proper instruments. I'm happily relearning how to play and it finally sounds great.3 -
Why doesn't spoj tell you about the username format or its availability before submitting the form! 😑 Had to again and again prove ,that I am not a robot, because of this !! Too many times.
And then this (the image) 🤣4 -
People who write ridiculous JS variable names that are impossible to understand or are just unreadable!! WTF!! Don't tell me it's to save bytes because its getting minified anyway. You're just fucking lazy.

I think Google have to add something like developer mode to its search engine, so when we search for a technical issue we don't see totally unrelated stuff.
and because the motivation drops down dramatically when you move to the second page if Google search.2 -
Don't you hate it when your testers file an issue under the mobile app project for bugs in the web app, because they happen to be using the web app on their mobile phone browsers and suddenly its the mobile app dev's fault?3

That moment when you're dual booting to have Windows for gaming and Windows decides it would be nice to reboot and install updates, while you're gaming of course. Without any sort of visible notification. Any. And then it fails to install its updates, because updates are hard to install, you know? Sometimes its just not the way you'd like it, you know? It's probably best to revert everything, yes? It only takes an hour after all! An hour of the lovely “Windows was too dumb to update and now has to try to make itself work again” screen with its lovely moving dots. Oh and of course you'll have to sit there and watch it because Windows has to reboot at least twice during the process. And if you're not there to tell GRUB you want to boot into Windows again Linux won't boot properly because Windows keeps the filesystems write-protected. Just to be safe you'd let it complete its marvellous ways!
I wish this was the first time this happened. But it wasn't. Fuck Windows.5 -

You don’t hate X, you hate the word “X” because of a single bad experience with it on an early stage of your path.
You don’t know X because you banned it early and never learned it. The only thing you see is its bad part. Everything has its bad part.
The fact that X has bad apologists doesn’t mean that X itself is bad18 -
It kills me that a lot of people on here choose Linux distros based solely on desktop environments. Its Linux guys, you can make it whatever you want. You should decide between distros because of package managers or frequent updates or active communities, not because of how pretty it is out of the box. You can make it as pretty as you want.5

Sent a cv to a company because facebook threw their ad at my face and i said why not. They emailed me that they would call me today. I dont have a phone. Its not fucking 2007. Call me on matrix or telegram or even skype ffs.19

I always used / preferred Nano over Vi(m) for its simplicity.
But fuck, just because of the simplicity for Vi to be able to find a string and replace it by another via ':%s/string1/string2', I'm feeling like installing Vi everywhere from now on...14 -

Thing that just occurred to me.
Write backend of website in Node with Mongo.
Write front end of website by using PHP to echo data from mongo and inline styles. PHP will also echo any inline JS that needs to make AJAX calls back to handle responsiveness.
Write a website with JS as its backend and PHP as its front end because the world has gone absolutely mad and you dgaf anymore.2 -
Finding motivation to work on stuff i dont like, because its sometimes part of the package.
I'm still having problems with that, but its getting there!1 -
I woke up because someone was calling me to eat something since breakfast is out...
Then I check my email and people were pressuring me to finish project X (won't name because its private)

This one is for @Fast-Nop
Both a rant and a joke/meme.

Dear Arch Linux Maintainers. Why the fuck are you sending me my password in plaintext?! Not enough: You are sending me my fucking password every fucking month, so i do not forget it, because its important!??!?!?! WHAT THE FUCK! Fucking idiots...4

I can't use Javascript object destrucuring in react components because a colleague doesn't like / understand it for some reason.
So instead of:
({ something }) => {
return (
<div>{something}</div>
)
}
If have to use
(props) => {
return (
<div>{props.something}</div>
)
}
Its no big issue, but I hate it.8 -

my job went from being a programmer ==> technical support girl for the whole company D:
its kinda annoying because its mostly about amazon ec2 instances and i have to chat with the support team from amazon when something goes wrong while following the steps (that the others could have followed instead of going to directly to me to make me do it)
now i have to try and fix all the problems occuring in the servers :((6 -
Security Issues with Chrome:

Lets discuss Git Clients. Now I love electron, in concept. And I love what you can do with it, on paper. And I understand Github's need to jack itself off by developing its own framework just to make its own software in being what Github is, and then everyone else following suite because Github must know best. And that's my rant, I don't think it had a point. So, favorite git client and why?21

Clients assume that because they can't see it, means no real work was done. Or even worse, you show them code that was written for the server, even demo the apis but without a pretty front-end it's pretty much meaningless. Even if ITS NOT YOUR JOB TO DO THE FRONT-END!!!1

Im thinking about leaving my employer because I keep getting way too much work on my plate, people get annoyed that its not done in time and tell me that i should tell them if im getting too much work.
So i tell them its to much and our deadlines are to tight, then i just get told "this is how we always work, we just gotta finish things faster and better"...
Another one is that our HR/office manager keeps bugging me about setting up SMART goals so i can prove my value to the company and that its my responsibility to do so if i want a pay raise (even if im already underpaid)...
Im sorry but if you wanna keep me, you gotta give me some damn incentive to stay...
Ive been putting up with it sofar because i like the office and the people and the majority of the work itself and i really dont wanna go looking for another job because im really bad at it... but wtf... im so done with all the "how does this work" questions too...
tl;dr: getting negative reviews because im bad at my own evaluation is gonna make me quit probably, while im being praised for all other work i do4 -
In C# using "this."
WHY? It doesn't help with readability. It just clutters up the code and adds nothing.
It should never be a required prefix.
What makes it worse is, Visual Studio greys it out because its not required!
Then there is stylecop. This got enabled on our project which generated 3000 build errors because of missing "this."9 -
Why the fuck do i need to propose try-catch to an contractor, so he can fix his application, because its crashing if the input is non-conform to the specs?
Oh and before you ask. The application is a application that processes and sanitizes invoices.8 -

Just read an article stating you shouldn't buy windows 10 home and should buy pro instead because of 'potential performance increase' due to some of its 'added performance technology'...
Do I need to say more?4 -
Stop fucking with the numbers.
A number is a number, integer or float.
Just because you wanted your stupid decimal place doesn't mean you need to fuck things up and make the front-end break because now its sending a string the server instead of a float. For fuck sakes. How long have we been doing this?5 -
Somebody has to say it.
React is a lot more trouble that it's worth and has fewer good ideas than people give it credit for. It's a great tool for any other context that's not the browser, and the only reason its the new cool kid in town is because Facebook made it so, and because x-rays went nowhere.undefined remember writing a script tag and that was it react web development webpack is bullshit guys come on webdev5 -
Oh ffs, just fucking inject a chip into my finger already for authentication purposes, you can track my every fucking move if you so wish. When a web page like twitch uses 2FA it boggles my mind because its a page where you're watching some fucking videos.
"hey there, so out of the blue, we send you a code to your email, we won't tell you which so good luck. Also, you cannot copy paste this code because we did that fucking thing where each character has its own textbox"
Of course, this is only because we are dumb enough to reuse shitty passwords. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.31 -
After 2 weeks I really like it here on devrant... And its mostly because we all somewhat face the same shit together today, every day. And still we continue.

I realised, that Git now has the same problem as Windows:
Its widespread because its widespread.
There are, especially for smaller projects, few reasons to actually use Git instead any other VCS.
Look at the landscape of free repo hosting.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of free Git hosters.
A handful of free Mercurial hosters,
Launchpad for Bazaar and I didn't even find a free SVN hoster.
Everyone uses Git, because there are Services for it, and there are Services for it, because everyone uses it.5 -
I left my computer on to finish running a script a script while I took a nap. Just woke up but its still not done....
Why? Because I used a || instead of an && ...2 -

I bought a Macbook about 6 month ago and I became in love with development in it... I've got a fucking MSI dream PC sitting here with two monitors acting as a glorified paperweight...
Its so weird because I know I could just put some Linux distro and use it more often but its almost like so many years of Windows make you doubt that you can ever fully leave the ecosystem... Its like some sort of sick Stockholm syndrome.5 -

Guys I work for myself and its great (love being my own boss) but after covid I decided to look for work for some company because financial stability is everything in this life

Its really fucking exhausting.
I've just learned to not say anything because it's not fucking worth it.1 -
I got this recently on my Firefox update. The podcast talks about Surveillance Capitalism and sounds a good hearing but I really don't know on whose side is Mozilla because their browser default search engine is still Google. Its kind of hypocritically confusing.

What the f*ck ? Is it normal practice or its just me ? My boss outsourced me, i got recruited as regular, because i am early regular. Now i just got told that im one of 2 senior devs in a project. Currently im vomiting every morning before every daily and refinements and im considering leaving that job.6

Server bios corruption, yaay.
Server external backups, naay.
This happened just before migration to another server. I feel stupid for not having proper backups now, and molested by a dying panda because its less than 6 months ago i got the server. It was used, but still.3 -
I was a fan of windows 8.1 Not because its good with UI its just I feel lazy to upgrade to windows 10. But recently some keys of my keyboard stops working, updated drivers, nothing worked. Moreover Bluetooth was also not working at all. So decided to update it to windows 10. About windows 10 installation was so smooth. It just took two hour to completely set it up. Now keyboard and Bluetooth issue is resolved. :) happiee9

Just went through EOY reviews. I found out in my own review that someone made the questionable decision to give me a raise and a promotion I'm not sure if I deserve... however why I'm really stoked is because its the first time I've gotten to promote one of my juniors! Now *that* is a really rewarding feeling because the dude certainly went balls deep and earned it, and I have the power to validate that.4

Me: why did you give us a 200 even if its an error
Them: thats normal
Me: If it's an error it shouldnt be 200
Them: its a 200 because the api params are correct but differ in value so its not an http error but an api error
lmao2 -
I dont dare share my github with potential profesional partners, its 40% contributions, 10% my public projects and 50% insulting other libraries in their issues because i become irritated when i cant get it working :P

the word bug has lost all meaning to me because all issues in the repo are labelled "bug"
That being said, the best bugs I fix are the ones where i can say its IEs fault and theres nothing i can do so i dont have to do anything because IE will never be updated -
I like listening to music from SoundCloud while working. Tried Spotify because I had read about its next level recommendation engine. Honestly felt that Soundcloud provides much better recommendations for the kind of music I like than Spotify.3

Back to using WSL because I suck at installing windows apps on Wine (and that I can't seem to connect to a WiFi with PEAP on Linux that the network admin know how to except on Windows).
So can't exactly rice Windows. I know I can with raindock and all that but its not the same as Linux. So I'm on WSL, installed tmux and wouldn't you know it, I found plenty of dot tmux files on Github.
But alas, its not the same as i3wm but its close.8 -
I just spent a week of mails because some "huge" company wanted me to do a plugin for their software by consuming theirs "brand new SOAP WS"... its full of bugs, bad documentated and slow as hell. I regret the moment when i said yes to be part of this nightmare haha2

Decided to fresh install ubuntu due to unexpected freezes, now I am stalling the Budgie flavor because J reaally wanted Solus.. but they still lack support for a lot of packages.

On wednesday we always work from 10:00 untill 20-21:00 because of weekly meetings with product owners who have a full time job besides being a product owner..
Its okay, we get free food and often have a couple beers, but the last weeks its been killing me...
Other people bail out because they want to do something with their friends that evening but I always feel like its a commitment we made as a team so as lead dev I should be there..
Think next week im going to bail out for a time2 -
Fucking nvidia and its fucking proprietary linux drivers. Of course I had to attempt an update, because the game was freezing, and of course it ruined my Friday evening. Because the newest kernel apparently cannot even boot (with any version of the proprietary drivers).7

Fuck you windows!!!
I had to leave town but wanted some surveillance and had no cctv or ip camera set up. So I added my laptop to teamviewer and used its webcam.
Now its not showing up on teamviewer and most likely because WINDOWS SCHEDULED A MAJOR UPDATE
It probably rebooted and went on to boot into ubuntu. Should have fucking run ubuntu in the first place. I am going to be so furious when I get back.
*in case you are wondering, I had to leave in a hurry and didn't go for ubuntu because I had never used the camera in it and wasn't sure if ubuntu had the required drivers *1 -
I need an opinion.
I want to learn something new. I consider myself a non-stupid person, and I am quite embarassed by the fact that the only tool I know well is Js+friends.
My options are:
- Java because money
- C/C++ because smartass
- Rust because yes
- some new shiny obscure shit like nim/zig/hare because lol
Currebtly I need money tbh. Java would seem a reasonable option, yet I'm scared by its huge ecosystem and I'm afraid that it would seriously take too long (like MANY years) to be confident enough to get a job.
Also, despite the common memes and crap, I fucking like Java.32 -
We should get @dfox on YouTube with the notifications because when I get a notification its instant good job dude 😀. But youtube takes like 30 min so I can get the notification7

Been using LastPass for a couple of years, but I'm looking for an alternative because good lord how slow its become. Suggestions?

What do people here use for blogging and hosting? Everything I can find from searching suggests self-hosted Wordpress, but I am cautious because of its reputation in the dev world and since all the guides I have found so far are directed at non-coders. Thanks in advance for any opinions 😊8

This is really annoying. My single manual test takes 10 minutes to run. Can't blame the task because its big, can't blame me, code optimization is not necessary and won't speed anything up. So here writing a rant waiting for it to finish1

"I'll buy the new iPhone because of its RAM"
"What amazes me of my new iPhone is its wonderful processor"
"I bought my iPhone because it let me free to do whatever I want"
- nobody, never
Seriously, have you ever seen someone saying that? Why the hell we nerd post things about how much is technically poorer an iPhone if compared with other phones when actually nobody cares about this? Come on, I'd never buy an iPhone as well, but I don't think this is the best way to change the other people' mind, I'm pretty sure that will increase the popularity instead.6 -
Pretty much after couple of years of entering the real world I lost faith, not because I found myself not able to cope and learn but the amount of chaos and closed minded people that you face everyday pushed me to pursue my MBA.
Now I'm slowly drifting away to the management part because I've had enough with this, its just not worth it. I'll keep development for self entertainment in personal projects, and nothing more. -
Had a handful of extra eyeglass wipes that someone gave me a week ago, so for lack of anything better to do while waiting on an OS install, I decided to give my laptop screen its only serious cleaning in the 6 years I've had it.
20 minutes later and it's already gotten its first fingerprint because I wasn't thinking and tried to wipe off a speck of dust.
I'm starting to remember why I stopped caring... -

Anyone know how to go about unit testing an application that is made up of:
- Electron
- Node
- React
- Typescript
(React using Typescript of course).
Electron has its own framework (Spectron), people seem to use Mocha with Node, React has its own tools like React testing library (and testing UI components will probably end me) and Typescript seems to play best with Jest - but a special Typescript flavour of Jest called ts-jest is preferable because the only other option is having Babel and its Typescript support that doesn't type check.
I want to beg for the sweet release of death.4 -
Who else finds its hard working from home/remotely? since I've been working remotely full time, I feel like I've been working harder and longer hours, I think its because I'm being evaluated solely by outcomes that I feel the need to put in more effort. Not like the days where I could rock up to the office for 8 hours and that was good enough, no matter how much work got done.1

Spent an hour on the phone with my dad because I needed him to scan and email a PDF. Literally no idea how to use a scanner, he got incredibly agitated as we worked through it, but the fax machine? Well that device is just human ingenuity at its finest apparently because that's would've saved him this headache!
Dad I don't even own a fax machine you wouldn't be able to fax it to me anyways.2 -
How on earth are you supposed to deliver a precise estimate of assignments, when your client wants the assignments estimated in parts, but youre not able to split it into parts because its a chain of assignments, that cant be split, like if one Thing succeeds then its possible to move on to next part? So many unknowns because you have to set time aside for unknown code behavior.. Sigh..1

Am I wrong or did they either lie or have a leak in their system?2 -
Having an argument about "empty" function in php.
someone told me that we shouldn't use this function because this is deprecated and doesn't work on php 5.3.
He has this opinion because once we took a site live and there few conditions broke. And they were like this " if ( empty($this->input->post())"
While I was trying to tell basically it wasn't empty fault I used it wrong, because the docs says nor its deprecated neither it'll break if we just use variables in it and not functions.
Argument ends up in "not getting any reply" :/ -

Because React.useCallback is a thing, you never need a custom react hook to take a dependency array. You can always express your dependencies by wrapping the callback in useCallback and having useCustom pass the callback itself as its own dependency. -

This got me fucked up. Listen yo.
So we have this issue on our modal right. The issue keeps poppin. It's a hotfix because its in prod. So my senior and I were on it. After a few hours, I showed him the part of the code that is buggy. It's 50 lines of code of nested if-else, else-if. And so we're still fighting it. He redid everything since we're using angular2 he did a subject, behavior-subject all that bs and I was still trying to understand what's the bug, because it's happening on the second click and so I did my own thing and found the cause bug and showed it to him, its this:
setTimeout( () => {}, 0)
the bootstrap-modal doesn't allow async inside it (I dont why, its in the package). So he explained to me why it's there. So I did my own thing again and find a workaround which I did, a one-line of angular property, showed it to him he didn't accept it because we'll still have to redo it with subjects and he was on it. I said ok. Went back to my previous issue. The director came in and ask for a fixed, my senior came up to me and told me to push my fix. Alright no problem. So we good now. Went back to our thing bla bla bla, then got an email that we will have a meeting, So we went, bla bla bla. The internal team wants a support for mobile, senior said no problem bla bla bla, after the meeting he approaches me and said (THIS IS WHERE IT GOT FUCKED UP) we wont be supporting bootstrap4 anymore because of the modal issue and since we're going to support mobile and BOOTSTRAP4 grid system is NONINTUITIVE we are moving to material design because the grid system is easier. I was blown away man. we have more than 100 components and just because of that modal and mobile support shit he decided to abandon bootstrap. Mater of fact its the modal its his code. I'm not expert in frontend but I looked at the material design implementation its the same thing other than the class names. OHHH LAWD!3 -

Workflow? More like chasing answer from a community that is not, and never has been, famous for its pedagogical skills. So hand me some coffee, weed and/or some snacks because I'll still search high and low, skip sleep and build up a few hundred pages browsing history so that in the end, I'll reach the understanding I'm looking for anyways. Even if whatever person trying to help me - in their delusion that I already know everything, except for that thing I'm asking about of course - really, REALLY just failed at saying "that goes there because of that" instead of "did you try insertSomeAppropriateRandomNameOfAThingYouAssumeEveryoneKnowsHere..?".
But who am I kidding? The tools are better than ever (IDE'S). The pedagogical skills are getting its own arenas to build on and its coming along greatly (coding block apps, treehouse and the likes etc. etc).
And no matter the struggle, I can't escape that I love coding and learning more than anything else.
Now how do I.. Where.. When.. Why the.. -

i think 2022 is gonna be the worst year ever judging by the omnicron and i think there will be more covid varients, and they will be more dangerous. the vaccine could just not work in response to the variant and millions of people could die because of that.
it could be a good year, but i don't really agree with that. and judging by the past two years, it doesn't look so good because of what happened in the last two years.
(blm riots, covid, india running out of oxygen for its hospitals, january sixth, etc)
but maybe, just maybe its good, but i don't really know.3 -

Why does symfony freezer the container after compiling it? I understand that because of its shit design they require to pre-compile the container because if they didnt their framework would be the slowest piece of shit ever and nobody would use it, but why freeze the parameter bag?
Load the compiled container from the cache, then let me override and set dynamic variables on top if I want, its just a keystore, so it just seems pedantic, unhelpful and utterly pointless2 -

anybody else has a "polish notation fetish"? i never actually learned lisp, but since i first saw its style, i find writing functions like "+ 1 2" instead of "1 + 2" both aesthetically and functionally more appealing. i think the infix notation is just being kept because of well-established habits.

I thought having to test my website on different browsers was bad enough, its a few hours to close of work and I still cant figure out sending a html email because of cross-client compatibility. Waiting on the day when this will be history.

Can somebody please explain to me what this company does?
https://www.signavio.com/
Its kinda technical mumbo jumbo for processes?
Appearantly its pretty much worth because they been bought up by sap.
Sorry if it does not belong here. But i really dont understand these management process optimization tools and why they should be so important? We do our stuff with confluence and jira and thats it. But we are also a software conpany nothing todo with hardware...6 -
Just seen F# and really like it. Sadly its compiler throws all kinds of errors on Linux with Mono because for some stupid reason it uses the Mono 2.0 DLLs...undefined lots of debugging tomorrow whyyy it said that it ran on linux all will be functions hail functional programming

Its one thing to store all text data of an address into a single database field. Its another where data is so hard to capture with regex because fuck patterns and consistency.

Hello people i have this problem and i think it is serious because it happens chronically. I am trying to get the word out about business services that i offer, but immediately they think its a scam. They dont know what company it is, or what it offers, or if it even exists yet, but “it sounds like a scam” … ? Is it a scam or not?
Do not do this. Always verify the source of your information to its legitimate source to know that its legitimate. Do not quickly assume that its a scam because because your pancreas gurgled. Your organs cant tell u whether something is a scam.
By just assuming, u display unprofessionalism by making an ass of yourself in front of a real agency. U also make yourself more prone to real scams who can act like what u think is legitimate. U also lose any opportunities u could have had, because u had to be an ass when it was being offered to u. Dont do that.6 -

Just cut down registration from 5s api response (because its sending email confirmation) into 70ms using rabbitmq (emails are now delegated in rabbit queue and sent whenever the queue takes place)
But still around 70ms to register which is great and fast (because it also generates jwt token and returns the whole user object + jwt) so its difficult to keep this at 7-9ms response time
Is this normal and is it fine to leave it at 70 or can this be optimized (or should it be)?7 -
I was thinking about a cli tool, involving sending emails through smtp because its purpose.
I was very happy finding out that Mozilla with the ISPDB offered a large list of configuration parameteres for various email provider, but I noticed that its not updated.
Any tips is welcomed6 -

I think this model discounts the idea of "representations regressing to the world as ground truth" or the "world as its own best model" in research related to embodied intelligence. I just think researchers tend to overlook state-free approaches because everything is DNN now.
I can't pretend to understand everything they're talking about, and AI winter may be coming eventually, but its still well worth the read simply because of the approach they take merging neurobiology with ideas from computational intelligence.1 -
I'm an oddball. I use elementaryOS code. Mainly because I like its snappiness and simplicity. It has a bit of git integration, a bit of a file manager sidebar, and autosaving.

TIL RVM and I are on different assumptions. I'm talking about RVM allowing unbound variables in its scripts.
I don't because I literally have run "rm -rf /" on my Mac because of an unbound variable in the past. So, when I write a shell script, the second line is always "set -eu."
And because RVM allows unbound variables, this line crashes RVM.
Then for some stupidity on my part, I looked into GitHub for its codebase first to get even more clueless about the issue before finally googling to see if anyone had experienced the same problem 🤦1 -
I found this video pretty cool. Its Uber's new UI. My question: Not related to dev but because I want to learn to do something like this, which software do you think was used to make this video?
