Got myself a job, yay!!

I got a job. A job where I get to sit in front of a computer. I don't know what I'm doing yet... Developer is in the job title description. I'm scared. I'm excited. But most of all, I'm really glad that I get to stop stacking boxes for a living.

Wanted to live outside the US. Was dating a Korean girl who moved back to Korea and was like why the hell not, let's go.

Worked at an American company that had a Korean office, so i thought it'd be easy mode. Took a working vacation to that office and interviewed. Brain froze on basic algorithms stuff - binary search. Failed to understand a logic question. But oddly enough, did well communicating with Korean developers with limited English knowledge.
Director talks to me at the end of the day, tells me they're looking for someone more senior. I bombed it, not mad.

Then he tells me he has a friend at one of the largest companies in Korea and that he'll be there to talk to me in two hours.
Dafuq

Chat with the dude. Supposedly, the larger company culture blows, but he has a little haven of badass developers and is known throughout the company for being an effective team builder. We talk for 90 minutes, and he days he'll hire me. Take a short online test to make sure I'm not a derp. Four months later, living in Korea and working, alas, sans girlfriend.

Been a year now. Ends up the company culture eventually crushed my boss. He was moved off the project, and then the project was scrapped. Yet they're starting a new project with the same group plus more because logic.

Today accepted an offer at a smaller company for a salary equal to my current salary plus bonus. Also, vidya gaems yayy.

I have got to have the silliest luck

First day in first dev job today, so excited!

I dont know why. Maybe the appearance and performance.
Still i think i am better than most of them.
I am sure that i have a place in this industry.

Dang It

Agreed on an offer from company X... Told them I'd sign the contract on my first working day, still a week away.

The offer had a lower salary than my previous job, I needed to relocate, and travel costs were not covered. It was a step back for me but I really needed a new job.

After the weekend I got an invitation for another interview... All went well and the perks were better than the offer made by company X.

Next day I had the second interview and they were very excited and offered me a contract.

Contract came in on friday, signed it and called company X that I'd like to reject the position after reconsidering my options...

Boy were they pissed off 😂

I'm loving my new job. Not for the salary or perks. Just for the simple fact that my developing opinions it's been taking in consideration!

New job: Asked my manager if i can add documentation for the code/project.
Manager: it's completely useless to use hours on documentation. If you don't understand any thing just ask around. It saves time. Just use descriptive variables and method names.

Coming from the wild west (ie. being freelance) to a fairly large organisation it's comforting to learn that they only have a *slightly* more organised work flow than I did when I was on my own.

It seems they're only human too, after all! 😃

Spent years ranting about being a contractor and freelancing. Finally got a job at a big company. Now I'm hating it and missing my old flexible work life. Hello dev rant, I'm back!

First day at the new job! Feeling good. 😊

My job hasn't started yet but I'm already learning to send emails to 5 people right at the same time while buried deep in paperwork.

Narrator(me): currently on keeping up with the clientele

Client: sooo-- go live in 2 days lol?

Me: im still waitin for finalised content from you and your designers

Client: oh , can you work the public holiday tomorrow , in anticipation for perhaps the of chance we will have sent xyz content

Me: hm tomorrows a public holiday.. but sure

Them: oh im in another timezone so its really 2 days - 12 hours

Starting a new role as a lead dev for a company that currently outsources their work to an agency in another country.
Finding out that some of the environment setup scripts don’t work as php5.3 is not in the Debian repository anymore ☠️

So, have been working for this company for 4 years now as a warehouse associate, but over time they finally realized I can code. I was given the opportunity to work on different projects (even though the first project was a setup for failure but still prevail completing it).

Long story short, next year plan on finishing my bachelor's degree in Software Development. Once I get the degree (or during the process) should I strive to try to work at the:

Tech position (at the current job)

or

Data Analyst department (current job) ,

since I would be the only developer (for data analyst and impressed the team members at my current job,

or

should I try to find another job in software development for a new field when the opportunity come up for a fresh start in just programming and not warehouse associate work?

P. S. Close friends with the Tech department, have high recognition and have done some projects for them. They would love to see me join the team if it happens. When I am not working with the tech department during off season (needs to be approved by management to work on these projects during off season) I am literally cutting a box, wasting my skills and potential in auditing during the season.

So I'm starting a new job in April, which will be my first 100% dev job. When I interviewed in January, they said I would work as an in house resource, and would most likely start off working with CMS systems etc to ease myself into this role, before transitioning to more advanced work. I was asked to come in for a meeting today, to look at a potential project.

Long story short, I'm being tasked with rewriting a frontend for their biggest customer to Angular, and this would most likely span over a year or so.

I can't decide if I'm excited or hilariously scared.

Joining a new company in 2021 as a tech lead. What are your top three pieces of advice l, esp given everyone is fully remote still given Covid-19?

Is it just me, or have you also had your teammates getting less responsive once you're on your notice period?

100% Remote android development jobs guys?
Anyone any exp in that? I want to travel around when corona is over but keep on working full time and earn at least 70k eur. Is that feasable? Remote seems to be still for digital nomads Backpacker as far as i can see. How can i bootstrap my research into this? Fyi senior android dev with 7 years of exp in mobile software development
