Best quotes from IT teacher:
- "C# is a language to program your IDE."
- "C# is a language for beginners, and is not really used in production."
- "We won't use Python to learn programming, because Python is a very old, slow and useless language, and is not really used anymore."
- "Yeah, your algorithm is fantastic, but you wrote 'The answer is: ' instead of 'Answer: ', so it's just a B."
- One of my classmates was bored and opened Notepad++, and when the teacher saw it, she said "I have been teaching programming for years, but I've never seen this program, what do you use it for?"
I feel so lucky that I have started learning programming years before at home, I just couldn't start if I had to learn this way.37 -
I once brought my Kali Linux laptop to school. (Because normal had dead battery, waiting for shipping)
MFW someone from the IT department is called in to fix teachers projector and he sees I still have the default dragon wallpaper on it.
MFW when recognises it it's Kali.
MFW he calls the police and my laptop gets taken away because 'its dangerous' and I get questioned in school.
The police came back a week later to check my laptop again. 'uhh we gotta check the logs'.
IF I WANTED IT TO BE DANGEROUS YOU'D BE FIXING A LOT MORE THAN JUST THE FUCKING PROJECTOR!
Also, wuddup devrant!11 -
Me: Alright, let's code!
School: Psst. Hey.
Me: What?
School: Remember that assignment from last week?
Me: Oh god please no.
School: Yeah, it's tomorrow. And you have a Geography exam next Monday. You love geography, right?
Me: Please, no, I want to become a programmer, not a--
School: Shush... It's okay. Programming can wait. You want a to get a job, right? What would they say when they see your poor Geography?
Me: That doesn't even... Okay, fine, I'll do it...
* two days later *
Me: Fuck me! Finally! Let's do some coding now.
School: Psst. Hey.16 -
I'm almost 29 and only have finished high school. I never new what I wanted to do until 7 years ago. Software engineering and development.
It took me a little while an some effort to find a employer who sees my potentials and is willing to invest in me.
Two weeks ago I decided to finally go back to school again (self study). Last week my boss told me he is proud and willing to share the costs.
Today my books arrived.
I am so excited and nervous!! November 5th (also my birthday) will be the first day of school.22 -
Got caught using linux terminal by school security. They took my laptop away and drove me across campus in their security carts to take me to the office.
It took a long time to explain that I wasn't maliciously hacking the school.
This is the third time I've been in trouble for tech-related activity.
On the bright side, one of the security guards said, "I'm done dealing with teenagers. Next time I won't work for a high school."
I think he's going to quit. :)13 -
My school blocks all social media websites, so i made a small social media site with chat and going to run it localy on my laptop and they cant block it :D44
-
When you work for school IT you find these kinds of things sometimes when cleaning the office. And yes it's fully functional15
-
Codacy is cool!
It gives my code a grade. So it's like school and university, but much easier since I can just disable all the warnings and get an A.5 -
Google searching should be a school subject. There is so much people that dont know how to use it13
-
Bought a tiny tablet so I can more easily do server management on the road/in bed.
I'm playing old school minesweeper on it now 😓7 -
Me: *finds severe bug in school-contracted software, emails teacher about who to talk to to get it fixed*
Teacher: "should I report you on grounds of computer misuse and hacking or...?"
thanks fucker, school-contracted company it is.28 -
7 years of "learning" "IT" at school...

So I've started my Python adventure and made an app that lets me know what's my next lesson in school. It shows lesson, subject and time.6

Saw this quote in a local newspaper. The guy is against buying laptops for school kids which I also am against but he makes the wrong argument. 25 years ago my school had computer rooms where we learnt how to code and although I don't use that language now it is still the same concepts as any modern language.21

For April Fools at a school I worked for, I printed off one of those "Your printer has been upgraded to be voice activated" signs and put it on their fairly new printer, went into the room opposite and waited. I heard far far too many teachers saying "Copy!" repeatedly, getting more and more agitated before 'manually' copying their document. I had to come clean before I left at lunch time because one of the teachers got quite angry at the prospect of a voice activated photocopier and refused to use it that way. The following year April Fools was on a school holiday so I couldn't pull it in the school I was in that day but i fully expect it to work somewhere else.3

That moment when the resident IT guy/teacher at your school comes to you at lunch and you look sad.
Me: Hello.
Teacher: What happened?
Me: Batteries almsot dead :(
Teacher: Well, I've got good news for you. I was talking to the school director about you.
Me: Um ... shit
Teacher: We're looking to get you an intership at the company that does networking shit for us (Netcom, anybody?)
Me: FUCK YEAH ... thanks!
*Day brightened by angelic light*7 -
So I got a call from a school friend today.
I'm currently doing majors in Computer science and I hadn't talked to her since high school.
She: "Hi! How are you?"
Me: "Hey, I'm great! How are you?"
It's really difficult to talk to someone after 2-3 years, considering you didn't talk much in school also.
She: "I'm great too!"
Me: "So what's up?"
She: "Listen, my friend lost her iPhone today. Cab you help us in retrieving it?"
Me: *hangs up*6 -
Recruiter: I see you got a good degree, however, what were your high school results (A-levels)?
Me: why would you need them?
(they were average, but I tell the recruiter)
Recruiter: Oh, so you were pretty lucky to get a good degree.
Me: No... I worked really hard for it.
Recruiter: Anyway, my client only deals with people who got high grades in high school.
What the fuckkkkkkk?

My friend at school (IT High School in Poland if you're interested) just asked me what version of Windows does Elliot in Mr. Robot use. After I said that it's not Windows, he didn't let me finish my sentence and said that you can't push macOS theming this far.10

School: Do you want to learn programming?
Me: Yes.
School: Do you want to learn about operation systems and networks?
Me: Yeah, sounds cool.
School: Do you also want to learn basic electrophysics?
Me: But I will rarely need it if I become a SE.
School: Well too bad!8 -
Currently I live in the city Utrecht. Right now a terrorist attack is happening next to my school with explosives and I'm at school right now.
Waiting it out now!16 -
Today my friend discovered a mechanical calculator at school, we were playing around with it for >1hour, very cool9

I'm in grade 9.
I started a programming club in my school.
I told them that I'd teach basic HTML,JS,CSS,C++,C,Java.
Nobody signed up.
Because it happens on Thursdays.
FML.
However, people told other people that I have wicked programming skills and so one of the school staff asked me to help them maintain their school website, which is currently just Google Sites (*vomit).

Just finished the new voting system for the school representative of my school, tomorrow ~600 students (including me) will use it, feels good! :)
Btw, I'm 16
Also, I am working on another project if anyone wants to take a look and give me some design feedback, as I learned everything I know by myself (It's in German though, I'm from Austria)37 -
senior devops in the school IT dep: "gcc is not working, it keeps telling theres no input files when there is, and its failing most of my builds"
are you sure sir? Give it another go
(Meanwhile my friends managed to sneak a "fixed image")
see? it works.
Senior Devops: " I swear it didn't work"
(we giggle)
check the last build's .bashrc
>alias gcc= (the error message e was referring)
Senior Devops: "MOTHERFUCKERS"
Actually its just your infra that we pushed the image to, school infra is unaffected
I mean it was fun while it lasted.4 -

Today is my age++ day !
And with it came the end of school, a new job in an awesome company, a new life in a new city !8 -
I programmed a random credit card generator at school and saved it to my :F drive which is the private drive for students to save stuff to. That night I tried accessing my account and it had notified me that it had been locked. I went into school the next day and was called into the office, the principal and Tech Administrator were there waiting for me and asked what the file was. The Tech Administrator tried to describe to me what he found
"This gen.html file seems to be malicious and puts our school at risk. It seems to be some sort of malware and stuff like that is prohibited at school."
Now me sitting in the chair listening to this, laughing in my head just said "okay" and nodded my head because he is the type of person to argue forever. They came to the conclusion to unlock my account by the end of the semester.
Just goes to show that it doesn't take much to get a Tech Admin position at a school.15 -
School has default router username and password. And it's not just a shitty tp-link router. It runs linux.
Made a simple reverse shell and I have a fully functional linux computer. Not really a hack, but it's sad.
Soon to get to the school server!3 -
I managed to take down an entire school network with one VPN.
In short, I ran a personal VPN and eventually the System Administrators at my old school managed to pick it up as unknown traffic. For some reason, they managed to block the port but not the IP so I changed the port to 443 and their automatic system blocked port 443 on their entire network essentially rendering HTTPS useless for a few hours.
I never got approached about it but my school invested in a new IT team.3 -
Friend: "i really don't understand why our school didn't teach us HTML as first programming language, you can do some stunning looking website with it"
Me: 🤔10 -
Let me explain a tiny corner of some awful code I read earlier today, in layman’s terms.
It’s a method to see if the user is in a secure session — not to set up the session, just to see if it exists. The method ends with a question mark, so it’s basically a question. It should look up the info (without changing anything) and should always give a clear yes/no answer. Makes sense, right?
Let’s say the question is “am I in school right now?”
The code… well.
If there isn’t a student, the answer it gives is null, not yes or no. Null is a fancy word for no, pretty much, so that’s kinda fine, but it really should be a simple no.
It then checks to see if the school is open today. If it is open, it then checks to see if I made my lunch, if I took my backpack, and if I rode the bus — and makes these things happen if they didn’t. Forgot my backpack? Just ask “am I in school today?” And poof! There’s my backpack! … but only if the school is open.
It then, finally, checks to see if I’m actually in the school, and gives that answer.
It could just see if I’m in the school — I mean, I could be in school without a backpack, or walked there on the weekend, right? Ha! You and your silly logic have no place here.
So, by asking if the user is in a secure session, we change the answer: they weren’t before, but the act of asking makes it so. This isn’t profound or anything: I don’t work with Schrödinger. My coworkers are just idiots.
And no, the rest of the code isn’t any better…7 -
Our school like:
School: hey everyone! Today we are learning java.
We: But we can Java and we already read the whole book
School: So ok! Let's do Java for 4 months!
We: What the... c'mon that makes no sense!
School: ...
We: ...
*After 4 months*
School: So class lets write a exam in java!
We: oh boy! this is nice!
School: Open your VM!
*Everyone started theyr VM and opened Eclipse*
School: Aaaaand now open NetBeans!
We: Holy Moly Crap! Really? why?
School: because...because...because...fuck off! we dont know...but it stands on the fucking exam so shut the fuck up u little crap!11 -
tldr: My school created 1000 Microsoft and Google accounts without our permission and we can't even use the services they provide.
A few days ago I ranted about our schools IT department blocking all outgoing ports.
A few days ago we also got Enterprise OneDrive accounts to store all our stuff, sound wonderful in theory.
The thing is OneDrive doesn't work without outgoing ports either...
So our School created both Microsoft and Google accounts in our names. This is against the law. You can't just register 1000 Google and Microsoft accounts in some else's name, like bruh wtf.15 -
My school fucking blocked duckduckgo today.
I'm not surprised, I knew this would happen eventually because this school is a prison and the administrators feel that they have to know your every fucking move.
Honestly I thought it was pretty funny too because I don't know anybody else at school using ddg, which means they probably just saw this one kid getting around being tracked and said "that damn kid." (Imagine I'm waving my finger around condescendingly like an old woman.)
It also could just be that they saw me using an unfamiliar url more than normal and assumed it was malicious or some kind of distraction. But I'm willing to bet money they just didn't like that they couldn't track me.22 -

So I've been working since the summer on an app that uses NLP to record audio (I was thinking of using it for school classes), transcribe it and summarize it automatically
I've been using it at school and it WORKS

I've actually put an app that I made to make my homework and sum classes up and IT WORKS8 -
Fucking School, when I'm home I'll finish that personal project. Or at least work on it.
Later that day:
God, school's exhausting.. I only wanna play games (League/GW2) with my girlfriend now -
this got me into programming, when I saw it during a school function in early 90s. wow there is a whole world inside this...

Changed the HTML of my school site locally to say we went back to school on the Tuesday not the Monday and blagged an extra lay in.
My auntie then called my mum and told her my cousins were at school why aren't me and my sister? BUSTED.
So worth it though!4 -

I got bored at school and I always wondered how a tattoo similar to this would look, it is okay I guess... just don't stare it for too long 😂😂😂12 -
You know what really, really sucks about my school? Rant#00
I'm in my last year now and they removed one CS/IT lesson. Now I have two fucking 45min lessons (instead of three) of learning what I'm actually interested in.
Even worse: They don't provide and LK ("Leistungskurs" == advanced course) for CS/IT. Not like for Maths, English, German - okay but LATIN AND SPORT? Wtf
And this school calls themselves a MINT-school (Maths, IT, Natural Sciences, Technology).
EVEN WORSE: The 12th graders now don't even have a basic course CS/IT.
Fuck you school.9 -
If you type "12oatmeal" in one of my school assignment console games, it plays a beep.
V e r y u s e f u l ™5 -
I developed an app for a voluntary radio station that is being operated in my school... for both Android and iOS and without charging them a dime.
About a third of the people in school downloaded it - 600 people.
Haven't received any credit, but I gained some experience.6 -
High school. The teacher in IT made some learning platform for the school in PHP. There was a module where you could upload files.
You could just upload a PHP file, and get it to run by accessing it through a direct link.3 -
On my first year of high school made a flash webpage for my class. It is still online.
...
Too embarrassed to share link.8 -
I've just realized that It is not worth trading my health for better grades at school, from now on I'll focus more on coding and on sleeping as well.3
-
Just double tapped my old school, paper notebook to "wake it" before writing something down. Feel like calling it a week and just go home.1

Why must it be that school interferes with coding and coding interferes with school? I learn so much more outside school with computers these days, and it's so much more interesting!3

!rant - Story:
I got accepted to the university of Osnabrück!
Finally! I've had a though time.
After kindergarten kids went to primary school while I had to go to a place called "Vorschule". Kids with disabilities go there. I, for one, was not physically disabled. I was psychologically disabled.
My German was not that good. My native language is Turkish. I had to spend 1 or 2 years there, before I was able to attend the primary school like the normal kids.
In the primary school a few teachers started making racist comments. I didn't really understand them, but my father did. After 2 years of attending that school, I switched to another primary school and continued with everything there.
In the secondary school (comprehensive school) I got bullied a lot. I was getting racist comments on a daily basis. Even by some teachers. Whereas some other teachers were showing it indirectly.
In the same school a teacher made me get a bad grade in one subject on purpose. Thus I got a bad certificate. Not the certificate I deserved.
I spent a year in economics after the secondary school. I was in a vocational school. I didn't like it, because I wasn't really interested in economics.
"Why did you choose that then?" you might ask. That's a legitimate question.
I didn't get accepted in anything related to informatics.
Anyways, I got bullied there, too. Physically beaten by trouble makers in my class and mentally by a french teacher.
He told me that I will not be able to get my certification that allows me to attend a university after me telling him that I will change the school and try it again in informatics. Several times.
I was in the new vocational school after that one. It was very stressful.
I, again, got bullied there. But this time not by the kids, but by some abusive teachers and directors.
One of them was a racist moron. My ex-PE teacher. He someday told me that I won't be able to achieve anything in my life.
I was always naive and kind of let all these words destroy my future plans in my head, but I had a little bit of hope nonetheless.
Today, I got a letter in which it was written that I got accepted to the university of Osnabrück!
Omg! I'm so fucking happy! I could explode! (A lil racist pun)17 -
Got a coffee grinder from my grand parents. Pretty old school, but I like it!! 😍
Just brew a big cup of coffee. It just tast delecious. ❤8 -
Got a math exam tomorrow but learning about it-security and pen-testing is a lot more interesting.
Building a remote for the projectors in your school can also be a source of fun :P2 -
Why is GOTO deprecated and not recommend!?
It was fun in school days programming, I used to write code randomly then use GOTO to sequence it.
Did anyone had fun with GOTO!?15 -

So we were trying to make a Go AI bot for our school project and then let it play against itself. Well... it might be able to beat AlphaGo, right?3

Cousin: So what are you learning at school?
Me: Programming, PC Networks, Hardware and so on.
Cousin: Oh really? I just have to make presentation to school. I will send it to your account thanks I appreciate it... 🤔6 -
Why the fuck is this site blocked. How the fuck is it remotely adult content? ITS A GODDAMN WEBGL GAME. And you blocked is as being EDUCATIONAL. WHY THE FUCK WOULD MY SCOOL BAN A GODDAMN EDUCATIONAL WEBSITE?
P.S. for all those that know me, i made a website a year ago, during english class, and it got blocked at school (my goal was to get it blocked). Or so I thought. It turns out it didn't get blocked at my school, it was blocked across the whole county! I feel accomplished.12 -

school is TERRIBLY designed.
why the FUCK are our grades dependent on EFFORT and NOT KNOWLEDGE.
im sick and tired of kids who scribble on homework and fail tests but still get a's, while i ace tests but dont do any homework.
how long ago was it that school was about LEARNING. to gain knowledge. kids who dont SHOULD NOT GET GOOD GRADES.

School and college introduced me to programming.
Personal perseverance and an excellent group of friends made me better at it. -
Don't bother programming anything for us. We'll never use it. (I work at an IT help desk Technician at a school and this was from the IT director)
They now use 3 of my projects (one SSO authentication, another issue tracker, and the other inventory) -
I really wish every school curriculum made a basic programming class mandatory. At worst, it would give everyone somewhat of an idea of how computers work.6

I wrote some code using microcontrollers to control peripherals and robotic extremities using an armband called the MYO. It was a fun project I did 2 years ago in high school, I even won a couple of international awards for it!2

Sometimes when I have a 10s break, I think about what I did to get here, and what to do to get... somewhere alive (if possible)
6 years ago, I got my high school diploma in letters.
5 years ago, my depression started while I went to a development / management school. Dropped off one year before graduation, but I prefered to stay alive than having this diploma in my coffin.
1 year ago, I got this (kind of shitty but it pays well but it has drupal so fuck) job and my depression ended.
In two weeks, I'll get back to school for this last one year that I'm missing, so I'll finally get a better diploma.
Within 4 years maximum, I'll leave France to start a new / better / better paid life in Canada.
One hell of a ride, ain't it?5 -
You know what sucks? Being forced by your teacher to use his crappy e-learning platform which isn't even close to final and therefore completely buggy. Oh you clicked in that compiler window? Nah now you can't click back in the editor window, better save and reload the page again. And thats only the beginning...5

My middle school teacher showed me Scratch, I really loved it, then I jumped on AppInventor and SmallBasic.
I'm really glad I attended his courses.
Now I'm in college babyyyy -
Not work but
Years ago when i was in middle school i wanted to mess with the school computers a bit so i made a desktop shortcut for shutdown and changed the name and icon to google chrome.
The person in charge of the it department freaked out and thought some kind of a massive virus infected everything.
Long story short turns out they had an event logger installed, figured out it was me and what i did...
I nearly got expelled 😑2 -

Me: People there won't get my jokes on computers, and it will be all like high school again 😭😭😭 -
"Make a 3D cube using the skew and size functions in Microsoft Paint on Microsoft Windows 7"
I shit you not, this is a genuine task you can allot in the school-leaving exams(maturita) at my school.
A 3D FUCKING CUBE! IN MOTHERFUCKING MS PAINT!
I mean it would be a kind of an easy task if MS Paint did the math correctly but for some fucking reason when you skew something in MS Paint it also magically shrinks! It is not MS Paint, it's M$ Pain.11 -
So I had a really big personal project the last 2 years, which certainly thaught me a lot. But on Tuesday this week it got shut down. How you ask? Let me first explain what kind of project it was.
It was a mobile application for my school to look up substitutions and events, read news and some other stuff. I talked about it with the principal a lot, but back 1 year they said there were too few features. So the last year I spent improving and adding features.
Then the last few weeks, it was time to make everything ready and talking with the leadership of the school about everything necessary. Then one big problem arose. No teacher in school could maintain the app, the ones who maintained IT-Stuff at school left this year.
So it was decided to "kill" the app and wait for an IT interested teacher to come.
And now every day of the week, I sat infront of my PC and didn't know what to do...6 -
I brought my laptop and stuff to school the other day, it was my final period before school was over and it was more "do what you want" kind of thing. So I was playing with my terminal (since I have Linux) and one of the students came up to me and asked "What are you playing? Is that a game?", luckily I wasn't in that pissy mood so I just tried my best to explain to him what I was doing.6
-
I saw a rant about some department still using win98, and it reminded me, when I was in school the school library used MS-fucking-DOS, windows 10 was already out by that time...
The librarian lady was really surprised I even knew what it was, which meant she knew it was fucking ancient2 -
So I finally got around to rewriting the Java course that my school has. It took me 6 lessons to get "Hello, World!" into the course. Well it looks like its going to be a long course.
-
Dev friend: Happy in your job?
- Me: Kinda, don't see myself doing it for another 35 years tho.. :(
Dev friend: Go back to school, learn computer sciences and get a dev job. You'll love it.
So now I'm back in school, no regrets whatsoever. Without a doubt best advice.. :) -
Going on a school camp where all the students in the school go.
2 nights and 3 days, planning to bring my laptop and my phone to make games there. (poor 15yo)
Any ideas not to be seen to the teachers? My loyal friends wont tell it because i promised to bring some old android devices for them to play games.10 -

I was hired to make a little app, alone, for iOS, Android and I had to code the server and the database. At first it was only à little app on Android and I had to do it in one month and go back school after.

I'm back. I'm the old itsnameless. I left programming because high school stuff. It was just overwhelming. I, slowly, left programming until the point I forgot everything. A lot of evaluations, high school stuff just for remembering NOTHING. The only thing I did this year on high school was losing a really big part of my time remembering weird stuff.
After all this stuff, I would love to spend my 2 months vacations mostly in the place that I've met lovely, awesome people. That place is called devRant.
So, yeah, hello there.

In 11th grade I had a shitty teacher who would make students go away from this one computer he always used in the computer lab. It was pretty annoying because he only ever used it to watch YouTube videos of fuckall Bollywood news and other garbage like it.
It was extremely annoying and inconvenient to everyone.
One day, I went to his PC, when he was not there, and reallocated the default way to open all .exe files to nothing, using the Windows Registry.
He came back and saw that none of his applications work and his PC is basically unusable now.
It was extremely funny for a few days to watch the IT guys try to fix but they weren't able to.
Now I don't know what they told the school but a month later they bought a completely new CPU and placed it instead of that one.
So fucking stupid.2 -
IMAO, a new programming language/technology is like a new cute girl at your school/workplace. We give it a lot of attention and tend to ignore older programming languages/technologies2
-
I'm not getting kicked out of school! Yaaaaaay!
I've got a lot of work to do this summer but I know I can do it (`・ω・´)b2 -
So my brother went back to school today. Now, during the 5 years I was there they had the most shit security on their IT systems, but aparently now they have fucked up their ssl. If you try to load the https page it comes up with the warning saying its an invalid certificate, but once you click it, it doesn't even load the school website, it loads this random page. Clicking on the buttons then take you to a page under their domain provided by another school. Going to this schools website, the https seems to be broken in the exact same way. It wouldnt be so bad, but it can confuse the hell out of people who type https before a url, and thos who dont realise and end up on the insecure site will need to provide passwords over an insecure connection. I am so glad im out of that place, they had such crap IT and everything was so easy to break.1

Our intern is leaving because school started this week and our PM said it would be nice to give him something as a parting gift:
"Let's make him a T-shirt and write something in frontend on it"3 -
Spent 1 month creating a piece of software for a school project and when I speak of it to someone on the IT business they tell me:
"Really? Once you start working you'll be using software that'll allow you to do something twice as hard in about 2 hours"5 -
My family had no particular reaction. I wanted to be a programmer since school, and they knew it was my intended goal.
I guess, my uncle being a professional programmer was something that showed it is a good choice.4 -
Coffee vs black tea?
I'm walking to my school and It's just freezing out here so I was thinking about if it should be coffee or some tea today.
Happy friday xd12 -
Will these fucktards just FUCKING FIX EDUROAM! alright it's a WiFi network that works across the globe and there's challenges with that BUT DON'T MAKE ME HAVE TO MANUALLY RECONNECT EVERY random amount of time!!! I'll shove that fucking MSCHAPv2 down you fucking throats with that sweet sweets PEAP sauce bloody arseholes.
What do you fucking mean it works fine? NO IT BLOODY DOESN'T! Get your shit together and at least handle DHCP leases correctly and make them not expire every fucking minute!!
Also, how the flipping fuck does connecting to the eduroam VPN from within fucking eduroam make it more stable? Only ever so slightly though. Incompetent pieces of dick sucking craptards don't make me have to bring out the ethernet jack EVERY FUCKING TIME at school for christ's sake.
No, it doesn't make it my problem because I'm running Linux. Look on the Internet. The forums are fucking filled with people having issues and your docs are from 5 years ago so please kindly FUCK Off!!!15 -
A school-related rant:
Went to my school yesterday to get my computer science degree, aaaand....
Surprise! You got a degree in Liberal Arts! Even though when you graduated, it said Computer Science and thought they already fixed the problem about me graduating with Liberal Arts instead of CS! Nope! Still Liberal Arts!
Sigh, fuck that school. I'm sure when my wife finds out about it, she'll definitely flip out and make me fix this, because she also spent time for me to finish school and get a stupid degree. I just don't wanna deal with it anymore and instead keep learning on my own, make projects, and be so good that employers can't ignore me.7 -
My first dev project outside of school work was an android application I made for my then-girlfriend to track time between contractions and count kicks during her pregnancy. It was horrifically ugly but it was my first android app and it worked!10

Does anybudy still use Adobe Animate/Flash for web animations?
They teach it at my school and at the moment I see no reason to use it. I'm probaly faster writing it by hand in CSS / JS, and it will run smoother that the animate files...6 -
So I became a panel for a students' oral defense for their apps in the IT dep, I'm a lowly plebian STEM but oh well I guess they did spot me making apps on the library on my lunch time.
Anyways here's what happened:
I reviewed two groups and here's my input on them:
- Group one did a app that uses the gyroscope to control a character in the screen, and avoid obstacles. At first I don't know how to play it but I figured it out nonetheless, since I'm reviewing in the customer perspective, I shunned them because of poor UX, and poor performance. Idea was there but execution is fucked - and the fact its a one man stand when there's 6 persons in front of me.
- Group 2 did an app that behaves similarly to our shitty eLMS, I liked the UX and the UI but I gave them a few pointers to improve it more and recommended it to replace the current application (yes because it was really exceeding my low bar for their department).
It's kinda obvious which one I picked to get to the stage on their graduation. They deserved it but I felt bad for the girl in the last group since she did everything so I gave them a passing grade. But if I were to individually grade them: I'd pass her and fail the rest.
How'd I do as a panel judge my angery dudes?3 -
Hi, I am an Linux/Unix noobie.
Is there any other command line tools like GREP?
I want to take a look at it and think whetehr it will be great for a small school project or not.5 -
As of today, 12:11 CEST, my days as a student who hates school are over. In one month, i will be a programmer. Feels fucking great.
I may go back in the future, but not right now.
Also, in my new job i have to go to school to, but only 1/3 of the time, and i am getting paid for it.2 -
I didn't really plan to study computer science, it just kinda happened. So when a few years into school my GPA was low my mom concluded it wasn't right for me.
Thing is, I knew I was good at programming and problem solving and so did my classmates. I even helped people who the school system said were smarter than I was.
So now I am constantly doing projects and freelancing with hopes that I'll prove myself to her.

some students aren't treating their school laptops well at all, today i had a student asking us if he would get a replacement if he "accidentally" gave it a little bath in acid :/5

When at School there was a hack that went around all the local schools that caused computers to shutdown as soon as it gets to the login screen.1

Anyone that ever experienced that a personal/hobby project (side to work/school) became successful?
How successful? Did it beco.e your main job?
Was it mostly luck or a lot of hard work?
Curious to hear peoples stories and how common it is.7 -

We have to programm a branchAndBound algorithm for school. Since it was running kinda slow, we decided to use multiple threads. Nailed it first try.1 -
I hate it when people say to you "your website isn't working!" During school.
Yes I know that I'm the one who made it not work. -
i hate when people ask me what im doing when im done with school. mf i dont even think im gonna make it past my 20s11
-
I agreed to create a website for my school that allows students to subscribe to various laboratories and stuff. The IT guy said that I could host it on the school server no problem and I asked if Java would be ok. All cool and easy.
I completed the website and came back to him after a few days to load it on the server. He uploaded the jar executable to /var/www/ and asked me why it wasn't working. I just wanted to leave.
In the end, I hosted it myself.11 -
Next year we start web developing in school. Everybody seems to despise it, but since I do not have much experience: Is it really that terrible developing for the www?15
-
I guess it would have been the school choice back then. Teachers were almost all really bad, going though a powerpoint at mad speed instead of making sure we got it, and the other students were elitists: you don't know how to code / use this framework? Why haven't you commit suicide yet?
This school was a big part of how I lost all confidence in myself, and how hard to build it back. And the major actor of my depression. Yay. -

I met a student at my school who is in a grade a couple years lower than me and was interested in learning about Perlin Noise for a game he’s making. Yesterday I spent a couple hours working on reminding myself how the algorithm worked and teaching him how it worked. Best few hours at school I’ve had in a while!3 -
When in high school they taught UML they talked as it was vitally important also in medium-sized projects. How actually is it? Do you use it?8

Got my RC522 RFID reader for a school project last night, got it to work, tried to plug it into my breadboard this morning and shorted it... Double checked on 2 different arduinos and 1RPi 3 B didn't work on either one of them.
Fuck my life.1 -
I know why group work sucked in school. It was a missed opportunity to teach project management and accountability. We’re almost always left to sort it out ourselves.
-
Is it called school if the programming teacher is troubleshooting the other (incompetent) programming teachers program for at least 45 minutes? Happend to me today.5
-
Tomorrow, I'll start my last year of study at a web development school.
At the end of it I'll get a title that'll allow me to get recognition around the world, but the school doesn't end until 9th September 2018, so in roughly in a year.
I'm honestly shitting my pants, wish me luck 😅2 -
I did reverse engineering on window command prompt hahaha
of course it was just for the commands:
· set
· cd
· start
which were the ones I needed because the admins in my school blocked cmd.4 -
I started in school and i thought it would be enough. My father convinced me to look into php and i inhaled it. Now, 12 years later, I am a self employed web dev and I teach web development. Thanks dad!1

Somebody ranted about his teacher showing windows presentation and teaching nothing. I wanted to comment that post but i have enough material to make the whole rant out of it.
Well at least you have those presentations! In my school we have 2 IT classrooms one with win xp, 1ghz cpu, 0,5gb ram computers and one with win vista, 2 core 2ghz cpu and 2gb of ram PCs.
Guess what room our teacher is using... of course the worse one! The second one is fine, few years ago another theacher had been using it!
I tried to convince him to change rooms but he is coming up with silly exciuses! (like "server is not working here!", well i fixed it with my friend but why are you even talking about it when you are not using yours in old class!)
PS. That server is useless anyway, every pc is connected to router that is connected to internet so supervisor pc is not mandatory, only acces restriction is enforced by win accounts.
I heard from students from my class (that picked that optional IT course) (i'm in high school) that gimp is not working because pc's are so bad!
Sometimes even notepad frezzes.🤔
Not only class is shite but teacher clearly has no idea what is he doing. (in order to pass the final from IT you need to learn simple C++, up to simple foo objects) and of course he isn not even talking about that! On one lesson about sorting algorithms he gave everybody 10 small pieces of paper with numbers on them and told everybody to sort them manualy, because he didnt know how to do it himself! So there is no doubt they wont be able code it.
I need to mention that i volontered to "clean, fix" that classroom (in order to convince teacher to move). And in that class i saw programms written in c++ on every computer! That means somebody was teaching propely before! 😣
I feel sorry for those guys, they are just waisting time. I would fall for it as well but i decided i can learn coding in home ;).
Well, results are shocking, after 1 month of coding i learned C# and i can basicly make any algorithm i ever wish. I learned about computer operation so well that i can nearly teach computer science. (i helped my friend in usa that is a electronic student with that and i'm very proud of it 😁) and it class still can't even use all 3 loops correctly... 😥 Ok i must admit i have been coding for a looooong while so i had time to learn basic c,c++ and pc operations before, but point still stands.
Why the hell are you wasting life of those studends? Why are you giving them a choice to learn coding WHEN YOU CANT EVEN USE PC YOURSELF?! (that it course is optional so you can apply if you want so)
I dont regret not bothering about it.1 -
With school starting in a few days, I'm reminded that half our class failed Grade 11 Computer Science, not because it was hard, but because they wanted to play flash games instead of actually learning2
-
It seems like sensitive websites that need more priority to work fine are the ones that do not. I'm talking about government, school, bank, & service provider sites. Or it's just my retarded country.9
-
LOL I totally forgot about the school today.
I went to job as usual, opened up Vscodium and started to write some stuff.
Then it hit me 😅 Oh god...
It took my 5 hours to remember but I'm in class right now.3 -
What did you do the last 20 minutes?
I watched the timer on my browser slowly tick down as it downloads 550mb over a flimsy school wifi connection in the hopes that my constant watching helps it not time out or crash.2 -
The school I went to, and this was really the only benefit of the school, gave all it students lifetime memberships to digital tutors, which was bought out by pluralsight, which then bought code School. So I basically got free membership to three different sites, all of which have a good amount of technical training with videos, guides, and work along lessons on them.
For what school cost to me, it will have paid for itself as long as I live for another Thousand Years.1 -
When I started uni and I took my first programming subject (Data Structures) I hated it as much as I could. My teacher was a complete @$$hole, he wasn't good at teaching, and most people were failing the subject. When I finished that semester I swore I would never be a programmer...
11 years later and I have a Master's in IT and have been working as a Software Engineer for 6+ years. #life
I wish I had a better experience learning the basics1 -
Let me start by sharing a bit of history about myself.
When i finished my secondary school i did not go immediately to high school. I took a year because i needed to improve some grades to enter high school more easily.
In that year i started to learn programming languages (Java).
So when i went to high school i already had a good foundation of programming logic and could make some simple games that my friends were amazed (Like Pong and tetris).
In my first year in high school, in my hometown, a photo frame builder's shop asked me if i could make a desktop program to help him calculating prices and such.
I did it in like 4 months. This was not my biggest projet so far but was the most satisfying at the end. He paid me really good money for it and i was very proud of myself.2 -
In school i had to do a simple HTML site(i was 13 back then). And i started writting it in guess what... Notepad
Thats how i felt in love with bare code -
our school says...
This school homepage was developed in 2008 as a builder.
IE7 was the main browser at the time of 2008, but now IE11 is being used as the main browser.
We are currently working on developing a school website builder that is suitable for modern browsers and sequentially converting all schools into new builders by December 2017.
Therefore, please use the Chrome browser to use and operate stable website when accessing the school website.
Oh...
But WHY ISN'T IT WORKING IN CHROME, EITHER???!!!!1 -
Fellow coders, where did your passion for coding come from?
Mine was in school when I had to create a website and it was the best thing ever22 -
Approaching the end of high school is really harder than it seems before you actually get to the last year. So many possibilities ahead!

To the ones that are/were students at a trade school, particularly in Germany.
Is it normal, that most IT students there are such dumbfucks?6 -
Is it just here in my school that students think if you are studying game design in college you are fat fk anime lover sh*t weaboo who play games all day :/4

It was when i was 4th grade. We had windows 95 computers in school. I used tk do assignments on them and submitted with a floppy disk. Yeah, copy paste started there...

Hey guys, I wouldn't really mind if you moved the live devrant podcast thing to a later time, I have school and I would kill or die to be there for it. Kill. Or. Die.9

So my school makes a survey each semester where students grade their teachers performance. This is all well and good.
Till I found out today that admin averages all the teachers scores for that class year. So all the good ones are worse and the bad ones are better off.
So I guess someone is desperate for some extra cash by making the school look better than it is... -
Finally friday! Only a few hours left in it school and I can start programming again and catch up with all the sleep i'm missing by not getting up till 5pm...1
-
Finally managed to flash Linux on my 250GB SSD with Linux! (After breaking it several times...)
Now I have a question to people that have a Linux/Windows Dual-boot:
What do you use Linux for, and what do you use windows for?
Really unsure how I should use the disk... Had an 16GB USB for school until now. (Lost it tho)
I plan to use it for school as well but I'm kinda afraid of losing it. (Was expensive)
Therefore I tend to just use it at home.23 -
Is it worth it to make a UI in c? (console application)
Note: That is our school assgignment due next month,
make an interactive app using databases in c that runs in console
ex) theater seat reservation system4 -
Here is an update of the website a friend of mine is creating for our school project:
I showed him a website I‘ve done in the past and that he could copy but edit the sidebar so it fits better to the existing website he had created. Now it looks like this:
(I think it got better but he has to change the colors and the proportion of the header, the sidebar and the footer.)

Well, it happened, my school managed to block SSH
It also means no more git, and if this shit isn't fixed I might be forced to use TFS
Whoop de doo11 -
I teached it myself while still going to school. Today I have a pretty well-payed job and still no degree in coding1
-
It all started when I got my first iPhone. I had so many ideas for any kinds of apps, so I wanted to learn how to program them. I went to school and learnt programming. (I started with Java)
While beeing at that school I taught myself Objective-C and I started to write Apps. After school I got a job as an iOS Developer. -
When the school district decides to change the passwords to every school related account of every student in your grade. Right before you take an online quiz. (They do this every year for the sophomores to make them change their passwords but they usually do it the first day, not two weeks in) Couldn't even log into the school computers, the site to check our grades, anything. Nice job guys, purposely reset passwords in the middle of the day.
-
for some reason many of the girls at my school are obsessed with peppa pig and I just don't get it6
-
Today, I went to school. The school was full of
bullies and it was hard to understand, so I went home.
I was beaten up very badly that I lived a life in
a mansion.
The end.3 -
none yet :( but on the good side I work at a school! it only takes one student to be sick with it before we all get quarantined and sent home :P
-
When I was in 2nd grade in my school and it was a mandatory course for all the students.
I'm glad it was mandatory. -
Two years ago, i made my graduation and started my training as system administrator. Today I got an email in my inbox; subject: like to help us?
My former IT teacher / admin asked me if I would like to create the new IT infratructure for the new school building. I never thought, that I ever go happily back to school %)1 -
My school makes us use AWT instead of JavaFX so let me just express how much of a pain in the ass it is to do assignments on my 4k laptop

When your coding at the cafeteria at school...
Woah! Are you hacking? Can you hack this game for me? Stop hacking you'll get expelled.
I just sit there and agree with it all ;D -

Finally, I am physically going to school today so that means that I can finally do some extensive Wi-Fi tests after the school upgraded it.5 -
It was amazing getting into programming in high school about three years ago, programming Lego robots with my team. Coolest project till date.
-
A really big pet peeve of mine is that we don't get teached coding in schools. Right now I'm about to finish middle school and wander of to high school. I am really surprised that my country's school system doesn't teach coding! The only way to get teached coding in our schools is in 11th grade by picking exact sciences and going to learn IT. It's really stupid when coding should start in the start of high school, in, at least, 9th grade. Really pissed me of...5
-
Paid for a private school in my country (France) cause public isn't so great.
After 3 years, realize that it was more bullshit than school so continue to paid until the last year to get diploma.
At the end, I was on Udemy to buy lessons and learn. Was way much cheaper than my school but since it's hard here without diploma, I had to finish scholarship...2 -
What programming language did you study in high school? In my country they teach us Pascal for what ever reason, me coming from c++ I can t support it16
-
We had programming classes in school today and I was using same computer yesterday but today it wouldn't boot up properly. So what I did is I have just restarted it multiple times and now it works again. I don't know why this happened but if it works I won't question it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯1
-
Back in school projects, I used to take way too much tasks in a user story because I knew that at one point, if it was someone else working on it I would end up fixing it anyway. Now I have trust issue -_-2
-
My school has a completely open SMTP server. A friend today who works for the tech department just showed me how anyone could fake an email. He did this by sending me an email as the president of the school, it looked legit. He told the security dudes but they can't secure it due to legacy systems. This is madness surely!?! Is open SMTP as bad as I think? (It is at least only accessible on the schools network).3

Basically, going to an IT school and being the only one who actually knew how to program, every group project was a nightmare, now at university I don't have any group projects luckilly

Logging into my schools blackboard using selenium is only redirected on school WiFi
Outside school WiFi I go directly to the site. But on the school WiFi it pauses on a redirect page with a link that loops back to the redirect when grabbed by selenium And selenium fails
Fucking hell2 -
Android app team project at school. We were creating a vocab trainer app. I did all the work my partner did literally no programming. So I asked her to at least copy some vocab list from our book. I didn't hear anything from her that day. The next day at school she comes to me with a piece of paper in her hand: "Is it ok like that?"
I died -
I just relised that my primary school had more "cs" lessons then high school
it was just one lesson with python turtle
The most high school has is photoshop and dreamweaver5 -
I worked for 14 hrs continuously for my school project which was the best and hard experience for me.
it still hurts... so much work for just few marks -
I've never felt that great: just finished school, get my first job, get drunk with friend. Hope it will not end too soon.3
-
I was at school. Should be around 7 years old. They bought some new computers: XTs with green monitors.
I saw it as asked: how can I use one of there? They answered it was just to mid school to students, so I asked to have some typewriter classes.
A few years after, when I was finishing the typewriter classes, I used a IBM 286 for the first time at a friend's house. I've been using and studying it since that day. I just loved to use MS-DOS and the 5" disks. -
Got the genius idea of multiplayer tic tac toe just before spring break. One week later, back in school and I have multiplayer tic tac toe written in Java. The only way that the school can block it is by blocking the port, but then I'll just change it until there are no more lol
give me suggestions on what to make next, this is fun3 -
It's been a while since i stopped programming.....
It's been so busy with all the school work/assignments/ and the most important part is that school ends at 10pm, arrive home at 11pm, prepare for tomorrow school stuff, sleep at 2am, wake up at 7am next morning, and again ends at 10pm 5 days a week...
It is exhausting, but I am getting used to this routine.
Studying my own programming skills or working on a side project? Not sure when to do it... The only way to continue studying is at breaks at school, or sleep less and study....
But it is impossible....
I have some great projects that are waiting to go out to the world, to list a few:
- cloud gaming
- cloud storage with live streaming
- complete school schedule management
- home automation framework in dotnet
- deepfakes and ai image generation algorithm (~18 months of training till now)
- game cheat engine (20GB total omfg ^^)
- and more
and I don't have time to finish it. lol
I think it will see the bright world after 3 years of high school... By then, my projects will be ancient, probably....
TIme is really short.
24 hours equally, but feels like 8 hours a day....
Should I abandon the project rn and focus on studying? (probably should)
or should i sell the project or open source it?
Also, how do you manage your time between work(study) and side projects (especially big ones)?4 -
So... school is about to begin again...
Honestly I'm both excited and intimidated about it. It's my last year in high school, and I still haven't decided what to do after it. I guess I'll go to an university, and possibly continue with my conservatory... I want to do both things, hoping that the weight won't crush me.
If you're like me, still a student, what do you think you would like to do after high school?6 -
I learned at IT school, because I didn't want to learn bad practices. And I don't regret that choice, teachers and courses were great !
-
EVERY FUCKING VACATIONS I'VE EVER HAD SINCE HIGH SCHOOL, when I first learned to code.
Since then there have always been some school or uni assignment or something croaked in production while I was away and n00bs couldn't hack it. -
!Rant && !!CS
Today I had to go to school on Saturday because it 's visitor day, when pupuil from elementary school visit our school to decide where to go. My CS teacher asked me to present CS-lessons, so I did. It was much fun showing and explaining our projects to the parents and their children. After the event my teacher suggested me to become a teacher (because I did so well ;-) ) and I am really thinking about it right now. Maybe it is the right choice for me...1 -
Is it actually that hard for the state to just publish a document online that says "You,You,You and you can go to school next week, the others need to wait 2 more weeks."
Instead, I have to hunt down information from several sources, if I can have to go to school or work next week. -
Why does nobody use company/school name here when they say in which domain they work? Is it a taboo?3
-
When I start reading the Linux kernel code in order to understand it during internship. It's so complex, so enormous for I but a high school student.
-
All of my programming knowledge (more like 95% of it) have been gathered by myself. I've started learning during secondary school - the basics everyone has to go through. But it was so awesome that I wanted more. So I've started digging through vast space of internets and books only to find that I know very little. I've had help in the university and high school (the other 5%), but it wasn't enough.
The best thing is - the feeling has never worn off. And I still want more, because it feels like learning magic - the only difference is magic doesn't exist 😃 -
When my e-commerce system built for a school didn't calculate totals properly at launch and I had to take it down, re-charge people, and re-launch the next day.

I started to learn coding at school using RM Basic. I made a script with an infinite loop using goto that flashed the screen different colours and said error on it. I left it running. Found out later the it guy took the computer away for "repair"...

Have to learn the Matlab language for school. It's proprietary, you have to pay for it, and arrays are not even 0 indexed!3

Nothing bothers me more than reading code that's written like a school essay instead of just indenting and spacing it out.

So this one dude at my school asked at a student conference, if they could swap Google for Ecosia as the search engine for all school computers. This ended up becoming an actual thing there a year after my graduation.
Imagine if a lot of other schools would do that too? Planting trees and ditching a monopoly, because one simple change from the IT department.1 -
Back when I was a freshman in high school a friend of mine put an emulator on the shared drive, so we could play NES games while in the computer lab. Didn't know better/didn't care. One day I get pulled out of class and walked into the computer guys office. In there is also the principal of the school and the Chief of police.
The computer guy tells me there was an issue last week that caused the school server to crash and it caused damage. I asked what happened and the he said one of the emulators we were playing had a script that crashed the server and caused damage. I asked how much damage and they informed me it was over 3 thousand dollars. At this point I'm very skeptical that the damage was worth about the cost of a new workstation (the old one sitting on his desk, buried in boxes), and afterwards none of the faculty knew of any kind of an outage. I asked for him to show me what broke and what had to be done to fix/replace the damaged equipment but all I got was a simple, "I'm sorry. I can't show you that at this time."
They threatened legal action for a felony of damaging a school property. Myself and the other tech savvy kids talked about it over the next couple of days wondering what would happen. They threatened expulsion for myself and a couple of other kids, but ultimately just got a talking to about keeping personal information safe.
What I got out of it was if they think I'm good with computers I must be doing something right. Now I'm in IT. This is where it went wrong. -
My family supported it from day 0, as I went to a specialized school to finish "high school".
They do push me towards more studying (I got a bachelor's in computer science), but idk if that's really the right call. -
How’s school going?
Well I’m in discrete mathematics and summations honestly suck, but if you put it in a for loop it’s so easy6 -
I always hated in school computing lessons when the teachers pet students would snitch on you for getting around the school network stuff.
Many people in the lesson would always play games instead of doing what they were meant to. So the teacher turned off the internet in the room using the admin control stuff. Then when I found a way around it all so I could watch some educational YouTube videos, the stupid teachers pet would snitch on me. Luckily the teacher knew I wasn’t using it to mess around, always felt good when he said that I could access it because I’m the biggest security threat to the school.
Did you ever have issues with snitches in computing lessons?6 -
At college, second year, basic CS for that school. The teacher calls me to her office, and asked me if I had any backup of my work, because the school computer I used, had crashed and the school didn't have backup of it.
2 years of school material, lost. So the teacher and school director had to vouch for me. Still got best grade in glass. -
So I’m currently in my senior year at high-school, striving to get my Technical High-School degree.
My specialization is “System Programming”. I wish we studied something at school related to it ...
Long story short~
I’m going to my finals for this semester : We had to create a traffic light program, coded in C++.
Greatest thing was - WELL WE HAD TO WRITE OUR CODE ON PIECE OF A PAPER 🙂🙃.
So I’m thinking ... Shall I add “I’m so good that I can program piece of a paper “ in my resume ?

Sad story , i guess im not the only one.
I have literally no friends who like to code or who seem to like but are lazy. Nothing
Is boring to work on personal projects or school projects like this :/
But today found out that theres only one in my school who does this, he is not that much into it but when he asked me what languages i use, also if i use php ...
I was happy inside to know that im not the only one in my school :D
That's all! Is here anyone or was in this situation , having no friends who like to code 🤔1 -
So one of my aunt who is a school teacher had her Windows 10 + Ubuntu 16 dual boot laptop updated with Ubuntu 18 by the school principal. The school principal having no clue what she was doing, ended up messing up the boot manager. I hear she simply deleted the Ubuntu 16 system files to make space and proceeded to install Ubuntu 18. The school principal took no responsibility of the catastrophe because it worked fine with other laptop.
The school has no IT department or anything of that sort either.
Guess who had to help there? Me. However, I have no clue about that area, anyhow, I managed to show a way to bootup Ubuntu 18 which is what they use at school. Windows won't boot anymore.
About a month later, now I hear the drive where Ubuntu 18 is installed is full and it is causing some issues. There is no delete option on right to make space.
May God help them. 🤷🏻♂️7 -
Coding projects are fun, but when you do it for a school project and you have to write a paper for it, it kinda sucks.. :/2

I graduated from my High School last Spring, and since then as a part of a huge overhaul of the education systems, they decided to put the school into the 21st century. The problem? They're doing it all wrong. Every school in the district is acting on its own, making transitions from one grade to another painful. The middle school purchased a cart of iPads despite the fact that Elementary schools use Surface, and the High School uses 2-in-1s. But what makes it worse is the services. The High School used Office365 and OneNote, while the Middle School uses Google Classroom and cloud storage. If the school board wants to make education simpler, modern life, and efficient, the least you could do is have everyone on the same page. Right now, costs are higher, grades are confusing, and efficiency is lower. Each teacher pretty much fends for themselves. I volunteered to help them sort this out by being on the educational committee in charge of the decisions, but I graduated and they felt like they were doing fine. Seriously?1

The black lives matter poster from USSR. It says “First day in ku klux school”, that’s the play on “first day of school” Russian idiom “первый раз в первый класс”. In Russian it’s a rhyme.10
-
Should I stay with Win10Home on my laptop, or upgrade to Education edition? (Cuz my school let me do it)2

Last week of my fixed term contract, it was my first work experience, and it was related to my studies, it's awesome to have a work which is also a hobby. Now I'm returning to School!

Hey guys, do you have any idea where i can host a NodeJS application for free? It's a school project and id like to have it hosted somewhere to access it more easily.5 -
It was compulsory to study logo at the school, class 4. Was around 10 at that time. Love what I could make the turtle do with commands. FF 2 years, learnt HTML in school. Loved how some tags made a webpage. Didn't code for next 7 years(idiotic decision?). Started with Java and Android development and fell in love again. Didn't let it go this time 😀

!Rant - web dev prompt
Currently experimenting with time management so figured I'd try setting up both Basecamp and Toggl. It's for a school project and involves a basic CMS (php CRUD etc).
Is it overkill?2 -
Hey guys, I have a big decision to make and wanted some advice before I did so. I got an email from a recruiter (who looked at my git repos) with viking code and was offered placement in their immersive program. The immersive progrAm is 12 weeks long and amounts to 1000 hours of training...the stack is something like javascript, angularjs, ruby, ect... finally the program is deferred tuition so I pay with a percentage of my salary.
The only issue is I was going to start school for a 2 year associates of applied science (programming specialist ) degree. If I do the bootcamp it would postpone school. So my decision comes down to doing the bootcamp and postponing school, or finish school then possibly see if there is an opening in 2 years for bootcamp. What do y'all think?15 -
The biggest issue I have with bootstrap is that some old school back-end dev always insist on using it even if the design doesn't work with it at all..
-
Made a perfectly working algorithm as part of a test in school. Two days later I open the file and it outputs nonsense.
-
I don't. I could've been a writer or a physicist for all I know. But when we started programming in high school I realised that I like doing it and I'm a quick learner with an affinity to maths so it felt relevant.
-
In the 90s i was in elementary school, my biggest question was "when you unplug a computer how it knows what time it is when you turn it on again, how its not reset like a digital clock we had", and there it all started....
-
the way we teach maths in school is so wrong that we produce wrong attitude towards it. chalkboard learning must be reduced.
-
It's 2.30AM now, and I'm guiding my high school friend on how to compress a file... It has been 2 hours now..4
-
Do you prefer / have quick or calm mornings?
I wake up at 8 am bike 15 min to work at 9 am, do school and personal stuff till 10 am and then start working.
It feels like I just have to take it easy at morning time because I have to also go to school in evenings after work.6 -
I am going to school for a BS in computer science and the other day my dad tagged me in a job for IT. Spent the next couple hours explaining what my job actually is.1
-
So awhile ago I asked my IT if i could get ubuntu on my (School) Laptop & she said that it can only be changed by the department of education, but seriously WTF It's just Linux && You could get it on all the NSW computers & it wouldn't change a thing!!2

Today I pass an assessment test to be hire as Business Analyst / Business Intelligence, I'm stressed about it because I'm just finishing the school, I got this possibility because I made a really good internship1
-
Anyone else become a dev simply because they followed the path of least resistance?
Like, I do enjoy it but went something like this
>Be me
>Grade 9, picking HS subjects
>"Well I do like computers and air-conditioning" picks IT
>"Oh cool extra IT course at school for free"
>"Wow, ok. Free 6 month course after HS" because I did well in the course at school
>Recruited straight into first job at country's biggest life insurance company2 -

I'm currently learning AngularJS 1.X and I've already used it for a couple of school assignments. I'm considering React and Vue.js as the next learning step - what would be your advice and why?3 -

I just went back to Old School Runescape and I played it 7pm - 2am last night so I guess that's my new distraction
-
At school, learning how to sum, divide and round in excel, instead of coding. (I'm an it pro. converting to dev.) FML5

Everytime there is something computer related to fix at home, my parents say: Thats why we send you to IT school.

Waking up in the morning.
It's been since 1998 that I wake up in the morning for school and then work and I am not used to it. -
So my friend has got me into playing Old School RuneScape and honestly it’s really nice and I’m enjoying it, idk if I’ll try the newer version since old school rs is still supported (from what I’ve been told)
I’ve noticed that the game is basically just an economics simulator and I am down for it2 -
In my school it is possinle(after a system update) to use the taskmanager at out windows pcs.
I could send any installed security/content restricion application to hell -
Today we had so much comp-sci at school that it actually became distasteful. And this comes from someone who is considered to be a big enthusiast and hype about computers...9
-
He was not reslly my dev-teacher, he was a math/physics teacher. But he had an after school an it workshop. That was the first place where i really worked with development. I was just a bit with html, php and LEGO mindstorms but it helped me with my knowledge. He is one of the best teachers in my school. Without him I would probably making windows and doors.

Woke up today with the idea that I'm gonna make a website for myself now I'm a high school student and have 0 income so i thought ight well i will just use the github student developer pack .... oh wait my school blocks it ...... ight ill get a free .me domain from name cheap..... oh its blocked too ill try porkbun and get a free .design domain shit that offers over Ight ill try . Started building an app for school to do something with indoor localization. We must use Crownstones (smart outlets, google it) for the project but in order for indoor localization to work we need 4 Crownstones. School only gave us 2. :/

Just came from professional school (is it correct? - school during apprenticeship), I have to develop some features for a project - and finish writing the documentation and User Manual .. but.. but.. first I need a coffee - a Big coffee :D

I find it really annoying I'm so bad at designing applications, I always have to resort to CSS frameworks as when I try to design applications it looks awful and inconsistent. And also as I'm in secondary school still (high school) when I'm making stuff I have to work on front end as I'm the only person making it and normal users don't like using the terminal. The usage of some CSS frameworks, like bootstrap, is sometimes frowned upon.3
-
they say go back to school...
well I did, the same one ( only by name ) and I remembered how good it is to sleep there ;) -
I was trying to complete some computer science coursework on an old school computer running Netbeans...
It took 10 minutes and lots of freezing to write one line of code which doesn't even work. -
Anybody here implemented Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) algorithm? I need to implement it for a school project. Its basically an android application and want to authenticate users using this algorithm.
Will appreciate any help possible.2 -
Biggest hurdle so far has to be school, I've always hated it and am finally done.
It's not that I hate learning or something, I just hate wasting my time doing things that don't matter. -
What is the difference between slack and a normal, old school forum?
Both have threads, PMs, Images, Emoticons, etc.
Is it just the UI that got improved?6 -
The moment i knew i wanted to be a programmer was actually after i had dropped out of my IT school.
I was finding coding hard a nd questioning my passion for it. during my time off i was still frequenting an IRC where people were talking about C and coding and it made me realize i missed it. after months of not finding a job, disappointed in myself for regretting my decision and finally finding employment at tim hortons which was god awful, i quit tim hortons after a month, applied late back into the program at IT school and graduated.
It was the kick in the ass i needed. -
How does one deal with:
Its not your code dont touch it 🫠
Its a school project
Is this something you actually encounter?4 -
!rant
I prefer to write desktop applications or mobile applications (android). Only time I touched web-applications so far was for school.
Tbh, I hate it the way have to do it in school. vanilla js, no css framework, JSP backend (sometimes php 5.4) and that rounded up with eclipse indigo.
Let's not even talk about the fact that we never really talked about js or css in school, so that was even harder for me too begin with (still suck at both of them imo)
I can't express my gratitude for js and css frameworks. They make web development much more fun for me.
💖 laravel, vuejs, materializecss💖
Feel free to suggest me other things, I only completed 2 project with these1 -
Brain dead. Machine learning is hard as i dont have a very mathematical background and math shoots up sometimes.
P.S i know calculus till high school, its just that it feels so stuck1 -
I actually prefer doing my code when it is sunny out. Guess it just gives me the feeling of there being a whole day to learn and develop code. I would prefer doing it at a library/coffee shop/school because I like being around people.
-
Does anyone know if "Make School" is legit? I got accepted to their summer program, but it's super expensive so dont know if it is worth it1

Never done a "full-fledged" Android app, but I had to, for school.
It works (by now), now I can sleep3 -
So last summer I got a job as a software engineer. It went great for a while, and it came time to go back to school. I'm a senior in high school, and the Sterling Scholar for computer technology, plus I'm in charge of my high schools website. It's getting pretty hard to balance this all out, and I've been considering pausing work until school is finished. What do you guys think? 😐1

A crowded bus, going to school, on a WhatsApp group that's only me and I use it to keep stuff.
It was quite uncomfortable.1 -
Wow. I successfully kept myself 2 hours from doing school work. I’m so productive if it comes to school.1
-
Do companies still use the Merise method? It seems a bit off to me.
I am learning it at school, but it makes many tables that I think could be merged into one...3 -
Any great tips on how to get a job i developing out of high school with two years of IT (specializing in HTML, CSS, SQL, JS and PHP)?1
-
I'm using Fedora 25/ pre-release, and It's rock solid except for wifi hotspot and I don't need it.
Now my school gave me a Windows 10 pro key, and I'm hesitant.
Should I install it ?
Will I need it ?5 -
The fact that it is mostly for school lately and also most of the time it's just been documentation the past 2 weeks, one week of just documentation to go...

Sooo, I'm at my music school, at a gig, wasn't aware of the day until a friends told me.
Hugs to everyone needing it today! (probably need one actually)? -
I'm currently learning assembly in school and...I acctually kinda like it. (To my surprise). I was wondering if there were any good resources for learning about security at the assembly/system level?1
-
Is it worth doing a computer programming course in school (going in with 3 years experience) for the grades?1
-
If you like developing apps, then it may be a nice idea to work as a developer. In my case, developing was my hobby while I was in school. And after school, I started working as a dev.
-
Starting my internship super late (mid-June), so I randomly decided to learn a bunch of stuff relevant to it all of tonight... I thought my all-night self-teaching sessions ended in high school.
