5 minutes downtime: "I lost millions because of you"
$100 extra on invoice: "it's too much I don't make money"6 -

Anyone else has this feeling that every tutorial ever explains basic things in minutae details and then in parts that are actually unintuitive and hard it does not explain anything?
Case in point Angular 1.X
Now, i feel pretty confident with my ng knowledge, but it still looks like there is lack of balance to docs/tuts, it shows up in questions ppl ask on irc etc.
So I don't think it is a question of my subjective viewpoint.4 -
- Launch the new version of the system I have been refactoring for 2 years and counting, then ceremoniously burn (literally) the legacy code as well as the cluster fuck of hardware it runs on.
- Decrease my stress + bus factor by bringing another up to speed on my code & the new version (his cluster fuck now).
- Pay attention to & take better care of health, my wrists in patricular.
- Find a mentor and mentor someone else.
- Get out of crisis management mode and find the time to write tuts, experiment and live a little.
- Find & join a local dev meetup, maybe make a local dev friend.
- Book leave and actually take it, preferabbly without having to take my laptop to the beach - actually, preferabbly at least have the choice to take a offline vacation.
- Sort through the drives containing ALL the code I have ever written, migrate the usefull interesting bits to Github.
Phew, that bit of self reflection was intense! I'm adding a cron to my server to sms & email me this rant in a year to remind me what hope looks like. -
MOTHERF*CKING HELLO WORLD Tuts.
What is it with people that after what 20 years (?) still every programming language tutorial starts with a "Hello World" program?
Programmers are usually such creative people, so why does everybody who writes a tutorial start with "Hello world"?
You learn nothing by such an example, it is boring as hell already the second time (first time is funny though).
And especially: If you write a tutorial with the prerequisite that people reading it should already know another language, WHY THE HELL START OUT LIKE THAT?
Okay, now back to learning Scala 😊9 -
I am creating a new language. Not like C# but a language specifically for plus, minus, multiply, division stuff
Any tuts related to this?14 -
I'm so done with these big boring technical programming books. So painful to read... I'll just watch some quick tuts and maybe, just Google what I need to know.2

Disappointment is when you're interested in learning about something but neither Lynda.com nor Tuts+ have any training so you have to buy the book and read :-(7

So... I've been messing arround with my first VPS (with little knowledge of Linux).
First installed lxde to learn how to do it, then back to the terminal. then I started with Apache, watching online tuts ...
Then I changed for nginx... Looks way better.
Installed my sql, php and got stuck. Dropped it for a few days.
Today I restarted, deleted Apache, mysql, reinstalled nginx, my php (with lots of problems because of old instalations). Everything is working now except php.
After going round and arround I changed my focus to relax a bit, and remembered I still have Apache on the firewall...
OK Apache and other stuff that I installed.
Delete everything
New rules only for nginx and reset.
Cant ssh to the server... What?
Oh... Forgot to add rules to OpenSSH...
No matter, I can access the terminal directly on the website....
And it loads to ldxe, with no user set...
Fuckkkk.
Oh BTW I'm in a trial free period with no support...17 -
I'm going nuts with this isolation, so next on my agenda... let's learn flutter!
Anyone have some half decent app tuts (preferably not videos) that they can suggest? I'm sure the usual "to do" list has been done and dusted a billion times, I'm looking for something more explorative into different features of flutter rather then just a "build this"5 -
I was trying to book a visit to my doctor at the largest private clinic of the country... I wonder what would a normal user understand from this message? 🤣4

When Envato Tuts+ posts an article with the title "What's the difference between Java and Javascript" and they are serious..1

I have no burnouts. I dont have kids, I'm full of energy, I'm ready to crush it. BUT every goddamn time i come to a company they run out of work/clients/projects. I end up doing nothing or some video tuts, and then change the company. I WANNA WORK! GIVE ME SOME REACT WORK, PLEASE! I WANNA FEEL DEADLINE PRESSURE! I WANNA COMPLAIN THAT I HAVE BURNOUT! I'M TIRED OF VIDEO COURSES AND TO-DO APPS!
I'm paid money to do nothing. As appealing as it sounds, it's not when you're a junior dev trying to get some experience.
Am I doing something wrong??? -
Question for game developers 🙄
I wanted to try game development a few years back, started watching unity3D tuts, but I realized quickly that I can't actually do anything, because I don't have the skills to design animation and draw ui, and it was stupid to buy components online before I knew what I'm doing.. so I left it. Was I wrong? How did you start? Is it possible to make a game on your own, or do you need a team with members who each specialize in its own area (code, design, animation, music, etc.) And if team is needed, then how do you even start learning? Thanx -
Wait at least an year.
Bcuz after an year, there are enormous amounts of tutorials in youtube that are easier to understand than the official documentation.
(Read the Docs (!fan)) -
Creative javascript encrypters:
((86.4E1, 0x169) > (1.116E3, 1.22E2) ? (0xE5, "k") : 0x96 >= (1.182E3, 7.74E2) ? (53, 1.56E2) : (112, 0x115))
just to write "k" -
I was so fed up with these time-wasting low quality YouTube tutorials. Then I stumbled across these really good egghead.io videos. However, the PRO subscription is expensive for me. Anyone else have tried it before?1

Do you feel that people are prefering to go through a bunch of tuts than sitting down and read a book.?
SO has made it so easy -- got an error just google and fix it. No need to bother about underlying concepts.
SO is great but do you feel like it's making younger programmers more focused on trouble-shooting rather than solving and understanding.?1 -
I really need some fucking help! I have been learning web development myself from online tuts and a book for the past 6 months. I am plateauing. I really have not learned anything new I a long time. Following node blogs and angular apps are hard for me to grasp. Can anyone suggest simple projects I xan work on in order to build my comprehension and understand as I learn more complicating things. When I follow an express js blog, for example, I only understand half the logic. It's tough. Anything helps. Please and thank you. #iwanttobeadeveloper2

New to wordpress.
Wordpress gods,
How would i send a mail using 'wp mail smtp' plugin? I completed the procedure and test mail was successful. How would i call this from UI. No tuts saying anything about that i guess4 -
I’ve built a ’self-serve’ inline-app/widget for our customers to book a moving quote appointment themselves. One of the ‘pages’ has a couple address autocomplete form fields. I went with a service called placekit, but used a CDN they offer. There is a more robust node.js library they offer, but couldn’t get it working. To be fair, I am completely new to node.js. I want to learn it, any recommended tuts, or readings? The company I work for is really invested in old technologies, we use SVN still. Does node play well with SVN? The IT lead for my department is opposed to connecting node to our DB, but I think we will be forced to for our upcoming automated testing project, it too is node, that’s what prompted my goal to learn it.2
