@D-4got10-01
Me too. But then again, I'm a working relic myself. -
@fruitfcker
I read in the news that actually happened to a guy recently. He was swallowed whole and thought he was done for, but then the whale spat him out and he survived. -
@azuredivay
How can it not matter that your data is in the hands of a war-loving dictatorship that attacks its neighbours, destroying entire cities and killing thousands of people? You're either extremely ignorant turning a blind eye to the world events, or one of those nihilists to whom there's no right or wrong and nothing matters. Then you might just as well eat turds. It will all turn into shit anyway, so why does that matter? -
Yandex is Russian. Don't use that shit.

@azuredivay
Yikes! I just noticed Yandex is Russian! WTF, how can you recommend anything from there?! -
Well, so far two tips; One that doesn't work in my country and another that's got really crappy user reviews.
Well, I guess I'll just have to go back to the old-fashioned way of backup storage, altering between two external HDDs, storing one at home and the other in my deposit box at the bank. -

@MANICX100
Tresorit has a rating of only two stars at trustpilot.com. Many negative reviews so I think it's a no go. -
@azuredivay
Sadly, Yandex requires a registration with a phone, number and their phone registration doesn't work in my country. -
@kiki
Not all of the Nordic countries are arctic like Svalbard. In my country, we don't have polar bears and we don't import all of our food, just coffee, chocolate, wine, rice, most spices, olives and some exotic fruits. However, basic groceries like dairy products, meat and poultry, eggs, most vegetables, flour and bread and apples are locally produced. My gf and I grow our own grapes in our greenhouse. They taste much better than the imported ones you can buy at a store, and are guaranteedly free from any pesticides or other toxic chemicals. -
Why has this post got so many downvotes? It's a nice, valid post, it's not offensive and it's not trying to sell anything.

@retoor
Do you really believe Europe went into a conflict with Russia? Is that what they say in American media? If Americans are fed with that bullshit and believe that crap, then I understand why they vote for Trump and stand behind him turning his back on Europe.
To be absolutely clear: It is Russia that got into a conflict with Ukraine and threatens its European neighbours, *NOT* the other way round! -
@djsumdog
I take it you're American? In that case, you're just proving my point.
Sure, I agree that devrant isn't a platform for politics, and I've never discussed politics here before. But now that Trump has taken everything to its extremes, turning the United States into a dictatorship, I just couldn't keep my mouth shut anymore. Trump's extreme politics are an existential threat to the USA as we know it and to the rest of the world. It's like giving a 9-year old access to nukes. It's an urgent topic that must be brought up and someone needs to put a stop to that madness.
You see, I too do things that actually matter, and I think discussions like this, do matter. Now, what is it that you do that actually matters? -
@antigermgerm
Yes, you can do rock climbing here. There are no high mountains but there are some really steep cliffs.
You can do windsurfing here. There is also one spot in Eckerö, where you can do some (very limited) wave surfing when the wind is just right, but in all fairness it's rather lame so don't expect any tube rides...
I'm not into sailing myself, but perhaps you can find some information on some of the marinas' web pages, like ÅSS (https://segel.ax/) or MSF (https://msf.ax/gasthamnen-eng/). -
The Nordic countries aren't that cold anymore, largely owing to the climate changes. My region, the Åland Islands, has the most hours of sunshine in the entire Baltic region. This is actually a decent place to live, worth checking out. I may be biased since I was born and raised here, but I've also lived in neighboring countries, Finland and Sweden. They both have their pros and cons, but overall, the Åland Islands still stands out.
-
@tosensei and @azuredivay
You both make valid points. -
@MANICX100
Was it any good? Why did you stop using it? -
@azuredivay
Looks promising. Thanks for the tip! -
@TheBeardedOne
That's simple maths. The gunshots took 99 HP. Bumping one's head in the shower took the remaining 1 HP. -
Yeah, i hate doors too, and door handles. They are not designed for people like us. I also hate shoelaces, touch screens, some plastic bags that are too hard to open, protruding walls, any irregularly shaped furniture...hell, I actually hate most stuff that requires any motoric skills and coordination. Why does the physical world need to be so bloody cumberlicated?! Fuck AFK! No wait, I actually prefer IRL after all, because that's the only place where you can get a decent meal.

Atlassian are among the worst. When I first started using Jira in the late 00s, it was still useful. However, they have just littered their products with bloat ever since. It's like Jira has caught ADHD along the way.
-
@retoor
That's amazing! Is this Web STT thingy based on some LLM and does it have an API? -
It's clear that we all have different preferences and that's alright. Perhaps I would love sticky scroll too if it worked the right way. As it is now, the file tree sticky scroll sticks to the first unfolded folder even when there are multiple folders unfolded, and doesn't take any account to the parent folder of the selected/highlighted file if any, thus misleading the user to believe the file one is working with is in another folder entirely. Very confusing to say the least, and it took me a while to figure it out. That's the sort of "helpful" features I'd rather reject. And in typical Microsoft manner, there isn't even a setting to disable it, but I had to look it up on the internet and add it manually to the settings file. I agree wth @lorentz. If Microsoft does want to push out features that some might find useful, while others find them annoying, they should at least have the decency to provide an easy way to opt out.

@retoor
Sounds interesting, but I don't use Google nor Android. -
@jiraTicket
Both of your guesses are very much to the point.
We're a tiny dev team and our core systems were developed by two now-retired dudes that ran the tech for 30 years precisely. -
@BordedDev
*lol* -
@Skriptkiddy
Yes, it was officially called "datakörkort", which only proves that the ones that came up with the idea were also the ones that needed it the most. This was back in the days when IT was called "ADB" (Automatisk databehandling = Automatic Data Processing). BTW, there was hardly any useful ADB education, which is why so many devs in my generation are more or less self-educated. This was years before internet became commonplace. -
There's something boring about the words "husband" and "wife". By not getting married, you stay "boyfriend" and "girlfriend", which is a way sexier relationship than marriage. Plus, the most common reason for a divorce is getting married in the first place.
-
You're both right. Tech changes slowly in our sector and we're stuck with an ancient architecture, with crappy old languages, and haven't even had any sort of versioning up until recently. It has crossed my mind to write a script for deployment, but that won't be necessary as we're finally working on introducing proper devops with versioning and all the sorts. We're almost there, so I have to put up with manual deployment for just another while.
