Hi! After getting generally good responses to my videos, i decided to give something back to the community and make this video that briefly explains basically everything you need to get started as a programmer. If you or any friend or relative wanted to get into the field, send them this video.

How to get an invitation for Google Foobar:
Open google.com/ncr (Original page) and search for "Arraylist Java"
Copy the URL of the search result page and repeatedly open a new tab with that link (You can press ctrl and spam 't' and 'v')
After you open the necessary number of tabs (about 15-20, not sure), you'll get a black bar saying you're invited.

Just found a 1000kV arc generator on AliExpress.. huehue :v
1 megavolt? That's the usual voltage level on lightning bolts. And with air's breakdown voltage of ~15kV/cm (could differ depending on humidity), you'd need nearly a meter of distance between the prongs *and* be able to achieve an arc between that distance without having shit arc internally, before you could ever reach 1MV. Yet arc generators' prongs are usually within 1cm of each other. I'd give it 10kV at best.
Also, they're generating the voltage of a lightning bolt for €3.65 apparently.. way too good to be true. Even components able to handle 10kV are quite costly, and components having a breakdown voltage of over 1MV is completely unheard of. I'm gonna buy one of those puppies to see how the circuit is designed and to zap the shit out of those bloody mosquitos in here - the only women that love me :'( - but I wouldn't be surprised if it just boosts the output voltage up to whatever until it can arc and short out. Completely unregulated of course.. which is fine but eh, I doubt that any of those components are rated for 1MV so probably the regulation is in smoking components acting like fuses when the prongs are too wide apart :v
As for the purpose of this rant.. nothing in particular really. Perhaps it'll educate some, I don't know. Just wanted to put it out there :)
Also if you'd like to watch some video material about this, you may find ElectroBOOM's coverage interesting: https://youtube.com/watch/...29 -

I did yesterday (, because I am fucking dumb and know little about linux systems) and got the result today. My whole mailserver wasn't working.

I HATE SVN! >:v v:< >:v v:< :@
I used to use git for my personal code repositories and for my work. In the office I moved on, they use Subversion. I’ve been using it for months, but it’s a pain in the ass :/
We use TortoiseSVN to pull code repositories, and the AnhkSVN for Visual Studio Plugin. It works fine until two or more of us have to work at the same code project at the same time.
Last week we had a very VERY urgent code to release. We had 4 days to finish it (from thursday to sunday, tests included). We had few changes to do, but the problem was that, when one dev commited something, my changes disappeared, and viceversa. The worst part was that my partners and I had to re-work a lot of bugs that we had already fixed! >:v
This is not the first time this happens :/
The worst thing is that we cannot change our repository system because we don’t have time :(
Is there any advice you, SVN users, can give us?9 -

Got the memory leaks and usage down from 700mb to ~150mb
CPU usage from ~100% to <5%
Shrink-wrapped the DB requirements based on data
Created self-supporting services and what not

the whole monitoring sys got dyed in red :v

If you like looking at language designers fight on Hacker News (and who doesn't?) go ahead and search for the V programming language or Vlang as it is also called and also for the posts that the creator of Odin lang has done in regards to V langs creator.
Its a shitstorm. Apparently both languages have been designed as alternatives to C (not as in "this will kill C!!" like rust does) and occasionally you will find some posts from the Zig language creator.
Fascinating fights actually, have been able to learn a thing or two about why some ideas concerning language design are whacky etc.
I am also trying to understand language design better, which is the main reason why I appreciate all of them fights.

Making my own game console.
I work with FPGAs and have access to a bunch of pretty nice dev boards, so building a workable CPU and GPU is definitely possible. I even have architectures for both in mind, and have planned ways to get compiler support (i.e. just use RISC-V as the ISA as much as possible so that I can reuse an existing RISC-V compiler with minimal changes) so that I don't need to write assembly.
But, lack of time. Sigh.4 -

Now here's a game that requires you to think and makes you feel trippy! It helps you explore the 4th dimension.
Kudos to the developer who's working on it, having to work on design and logic alone (including developing his own algorithm for 4D design) even though it's been 10 years since it has been announced.

Ok now I'm gonna tell you about my "Databases 2" exam. This is gonna be long.
I'd like to know if DB designers actually have this workflow. I'm gonna "challenge" the reader, but I'm not playing smartass. The mistakes I point out here are MY mistakes.
So, in my uni there's this course, "Databases 2" ("Databases 1" is relational algebra and theoretical stuff), which consist in one exercise: design a SQL database.
We get the description of a system. Almost a two pages pdf. Of course it could be anything. Here I'm going to pretend the project is a YouTube clone (it's one of the practice exercises).
We start designing a ER diagram that describes the system. It must be fucking accurate: e.g. if we describe a "view" as a relationship between the entities User and Video, it MUST have at least another attribute, e.g. the datetime, even if the description doesn't say it. The official reason?
"The ER relationship describes a set of couples. You can not have two elements equal, thus if you don't put any attribute, it means that any user could watch a video only once. So you must put at least something else."
Do you get my point? In this phase we're not even talking about a "database", this is an analysis phase.
Then we describe the type dictionary. So far so good, we just have to specify the type of any attribute.
And now... Constraints.
Oh my god the constraints. We have to describe every fucking constraint of our system. In FIRST ORDER LOGIC. Every entity is a set, and Entity(e) means that an element e belongs to the set Entity. "A user must leave a feedback after he saw a video" becomes like
For all u,v,dv,df,f ( User(u) and Video(v) and View(u, v, dv) and feedback(u, v, f) ) ---> dv < df
provided that dv and df are the datetimes of the view and the feedback creation (it is clear in the exercise, here seems kinda cryptic)
Of course only some of the constraints are explicitly described. This one, for example, was not in the text. If you fail to mention any "hidden" constraint, you lose a lot of points. Same thing if you not describe it correctly.
Now it's time for use cases.
You start with the usual stickman diagram. So far so good.
Then you have to describe their main functions.
In first order logic. Yes.
So, if you got the point, you may think that the following is correct to get "the average amount of feedback values on a single video" (1 to 5, like the old YT).
(let's say that feedback is a relationship with attribute between User and Video
getAv(Video v): int
Let be F = { va | feedback(v, u, va) } for any User u
Let av = (sum forall f in F) / | F |
return av
But nope, there's an error here. Can you spot it (I didn't)?
F is a set. Sets do not have duplicates! So, the F set will lose some feedback values! I can not define that as a simple set!
It has to be a set of couples, like (v, u), where v is the value and u the user; this way we can have duplicate feedback values in our set.
This concludes the analysis phase. Now, the design.
Well we just refactor everything we have done until now. Is-a relations become relationships, many-to-many relationships get an "association entity" between them, nothing new.
We write down on paper every SQL statement to build any table, entity or not. We write down every possible primary key or foreign key. The constraint that are not natively satisfied by SQL and/or foreign keys become triggers, and so on.
This exam is considered the true nightmare at our department. I just love it.
Now my question is, do actually DB designers follow this workflow? Or is this just a bloody hard training in Pai Mei style?6 -

He wants 32 GB RAM in such a slim and small Tablet. Also wants a 7th Gen Intel CPU and 1 TB SSD in it. He's ready to pay 1000 $ more for his special edition.
The Eve V is already finished with tooling and they are wating for the screens to arrive. They already have all the other parts.
Dude you're crazy and that specs just for VM's? What are you running? 10x WinShitBox?
He's insulting everyone on the forum with a different opinion and says, retooling will be such easy.
That guy is a real douchebag and doesn't know shit. If you would build in different parts like this, you would need to remodel the whole tablet. You can stick your 1000$ in your ass, retooling would cost more than 10'000$
If it's so easy you shithead, then do it yourself and dont say it's possible and say to other people they should do! 😂😂2 -

I never expected embedded Linux to be this performant boot wise. On a Cyclone V HPS (800Mhz, Coretex A7) the entire system boots in 3s. Thats from power on to a shell in userspace. And it uses like 40MB of SD-Card Space. The entire speed gets throuwn out the window as soon as you use systemd. Then it takes like five times as long. I kinda want to explore this further in the future by addin LCD support with a desktop environment and get some numbers for that. Currently very happy with the results.5

Today, a video appeared online of a game called StoneHearth, which is currently in open Alpha.
The video is about adding multiplayer functionality to this (originally) singleplayer game.
'Tony' is a hero! Because he initially designed the singleplayer game according to a strict client-server model, adding multiplayer is now a piece of cake. Good thinking there.
The structure of the game even made it harder for developers to hack around it, than just to follow the model. That is awesome. Kudos to Tony!

Fun fact: the defibrillator is not used to start a flatlining patient's heart. It's for stopping a heart that beats but doesn't pump blood. The heart then turns on correctly and starts pumping. The defibrillator is “did you try to turn it off and on again?”, but for hearts.
What makes a flatlining heart beat again is CPR + epinephrine.
Another fun fact: Lemon Demon's “Two Trucks Having Sex” has a perfect rhythm for CPR.

Oh my fucking god.
So, basically, I’m at some mall with Violet Parr, but I’m not Dash. I’m someone else entirely, but still a Mr. Incredible’s child. Producers connect to my thoughts and say “Go to the bathroom”. I oblige, go in and see Mr. Incredible naked, absolutely destroying Frozone’s asshole bareback. He doesn’t see me.
Then, I go meta: “Well, producers now probably want me to find another bathroom!”
Mens' one is closed. Ladies one is open though. “Wait, if Mr. Incredible is there, and we’re in The Incredibles universe, we’re probably not in Russia, and no one will bully me, a little trans kid, if I go to the ladies' bathroom”. I go in and lock myself inside a stall.
Music plays. A hellish hybrid of Tessa Violet from “Crush” (https://youtube.com/watch/...) and Orla Gartland (https://youtube.com/watch/...) enters the bathroom. The movie suddenly becomes a musical.
As she approaches my stall, she sings:
🎵 Deep down inside, we’re still transphobic 🎵
🎵 Deep down inside, I’m still transphobic 🎵
🎵 But it’s my way to tell the world 🎵
🎵 To shut 🎵
🎵 The fuck 🎵
🎵 UUUUUp 🎵
She proceeds to demolish and twist the stalls.
Suddenly, we see her flashback (well, technically a flash-forward), and there she gives a Ted talk. But it’s a Klan rally, and it’s Ted x KKK. She says the punchline:
“Well, isn’t it _nuts_ 😏
that I twisted steel beams into a thousand _knots_ 😏👉”
The audience erupts into laughter.
We’re back. I run away from her. Cops arrive, and I’m connected directly to Barely Sociable’s video from the future (relative to my present) about Ruth Price (https://youtube.com/watch/...), the phone call segment. The original audio is replaced by Tessa/Orla’s voice. She calls cops and says “We’re placed into custody for bullying a trans faggot kid!”
The cop replies, mocking her: “That’s baaaad 🤣, that’s probably baaaaaad 🤣”
Off-screen laughter.
Roll credits.
Jack-Jack Parr is trans, confirmed.7 -

Recently I experienced a feeling of being fed up with the screenshot tools on Linux.
There's a build in one in Kubuntu called "Spectacle" which isn't really that much of a spectacle as it pushes my displays to the left until there's nothing left on my second screen and half of my first screen is missing.
There's Shutter, which has always been slow for me. Plus there's the fact that the cursor in "capture rectangle" mode is hard to see for me :v
There's Kazam which doesn't seem to allow me to select a save path from the terminal.
There are others of course, but I wasn't really going to bother and instead decided to ask myself "how hard would it be to make my own?"
Turns out not hard at all :v
I now have a screenshot tool which is fast, small, takes region captures and takes window captures.
I guess next step (if I can be bothered) is to set up slop+ffmpeg to do screen recordings

Wherein I disprove Goldbachs Conjecture (in one specific case)
golbach conjecture:
every even number is the sum of two primes
lets call the primes p and q
lets call our even number p+q=n
we can go further by establishing two additional variables
u=p-1, v=q-1
therefore every even number is the sum of u+v+2, according to goldbach's own reasoning.
in the simplest case...
p=2, q=2, p+q=4
u=1, v=1, u+v+2 = 4
We can therefore make a further conjecture in the simplest case every sum of two primes, less 2, is the sum of two composites. This likely has connections to the abc conjecture for a variety of reasons. But leaving ancillary discussion aside for a moment...
We can generalize to a statement that every even number is the sum of two odd numbers. And every odd number greater than 1 is the sum of an odd number and an even number.
Finding an even number that is not the sum of (p-1)+(q-1) would therefore be equivalent to disproving the goldbach conjecture. Likewise proving every even number is the sum of (p-1)+(q-1) would be the equivalent of proving it.
Proving all even numbers greater than 2 are the sum of two composites + 2 would be proof of goldbachs conjecture, and finding any example or an equation that proves an example exists such that *some* subset of even numbers are NOT the sum of two composites +2, would disprove the conjecture.
Lets start with a simple example:
2+2=4
because 4-2=2, and two is not the sum of two composite numbers goldbachs conjecture must ipso facto be false.
QED
If I've wildly misapprehended the math, please, somebody who is better at it, correct me.
Honestly if this is actually anything, I'd be floored to discover no one has stumbled on this line of reasoning before.8 -

What does this all mean? I remember seeing these 1 month ago but by now I forgot all about it again. This is nonsense; and the worst part is discoverability: there is no easy way to learn what does this mean, navigate to definition (where "on" is defined?) or something2 -

I know another Apple iPhone post but hear me out on this one. So the new iPhones support fast charging right? Now supposedly/apparently when you buy an iPhone 8 or X it comes with a regular power brick and cable which means you will have to drop another 85$ to actually fast charge your iPhone... like what?

So the other day I was saddened when I found out the http://nooooooooooooooo.com/ website was gone. This website I feel is a bit of internet history.
So I screamed nooooooooooo!
But today I found a new website: http://www.nooo.me/
It is a joyous day!

I had a high score around 1000k or so kept being killed constantly and such on downloaded pycharm on mom's pc, downloaded an android emulator as well :) i cant wait to go back to scripting but andlua is just a mix of java and lua

what do ya think about the high score? -
I can confirm that Crystal lang v1.0.0 is not stable really. I seem to have hit a block. For example, I get error messages like this frequently:
`Error: can't use Hash(K, V) as generic type argument yet, use a more specific type`.
I love the "yet" in this message; it gives you some hope!5 -
Once I was looking for a monospace comic sans just for shits and giggles.
Now if I know that I would be using Android Studio for longer on a machine, then I have to look for Fantasque Sans Mono, I can't work otherwise :v
(ChroMATERIAL is also a pretty cool color scheme)

Learning to like manjaro, a lot, setting up i3 for a workstation and kubernetes cluster with a couple of manjaro workstations with just the cli installed... few gotchas on the way, get Hyper-V enhanced mode working but get a message session error on dbus launch - easy fix it is already launched by lightdm, the cli install doesn't start the network driver by default but can get a whole 3 node k8s cluster running in under an hour from scratch and forward i3 to a nice, fast, little windows x-server that I got for free with Microsoft reward points.. winning!

Learning vue and it's lovely, except FUCKING V-MODEL I'm literally 10 hours of tutorials in and I still have no clear idea what the thing does, I'm pretty sure it's like 2/10 complexity thing but someone just HAD TO name it V-MODEL so that it doesn't give you a slightest hint of the actual functionality, like you might as well have named it v-cable or v-oompaloompa, it would have the exact same information value (none).3

Which development standards and coding styles would you recommend in a development team? My colleague @jacoKotze and I are starting to get larger projects at work and 2 more developers soon (juniors with little to no experience), so we'll need some coherence soon.

Visual Studio's intellisence recommending me NOT to use

Sometimes YouTube recommends something fantastic like this. I really did not search for "how to send an 'email'"! Email prescriptions are still syfy for many countries, and that bit on taking fridge inventory on the computer is a bit of an overkill even today! The transmission at the end, freakyyyyyyy!

In the spirit of this https://m.youtube.com/watch/... I have a question...how many of my fellow Rantsters can relate? I feel like I see so many posts about not being able to fix cars, build computers, and in general fix things that arent software, and I mean no offense by this. But, I think a lot of people sell themselves short because they aren't a "professional" I'm pretty sure anyone who can build an application can fix most anything...you just need to read the docs and debug it!

when we started this project for a customer we are working on we had a training about how their BE and FE is working, their coding style and so on. FE is in Angular 4 btw. During this training for FE we were about to create our first component. The trainer: "Ok, let's generate this component." He opened some very basic project that they have as a starting point, selected a directory, crtl+c ctrl+v, manually renamed everything. "There you have it. We successfully generated a new component!" 😳😵
We are still generating them like that 😅 -

When you write a crawler to scavenge through a set of sites but only compare their 'uniqueness' through an on-startup hash map which doesnt reflect values already in DB and now you've duplicate values coz you didn't define uniqueness in DB either :v

there was a post about banning of Alex Jones and a pretty interesting discussion unravelled under it.

I know it a strange thing to ask but I need help with English grammar ( I am not a English native)
I am doing an assignment on context free grammar program.
What the program need to do it "Produce a grammar tree based on the rule"
For example a sentence "Jame sat.", It will need to produce a grammar tree like this.
S
_____|___
NP VP
| |
N V
| |
holmes sat
The only thing I need to do it give a grammar rule to the program like this
S -> NP VP
NP -> N | Det N
VP -> V | NP
What the above rule said is that the sentence is composed of Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase and Noun Phrase is either is a Noun or a determiner and Noun.
Now here is the meat of the question.
I am having trouble parsing a grammar tree for this sentence "She never said a word until we were at the door here"
I have provided my grammar rule below. I think I forget to add some grammar rule or some of my grammar rule are incorrect. I am not a native English speaker so I am having trouble on it.
The search engine have fail me (I have look up various grammar tree) so I am asking for help on devrant. Grammar nazi are warmly welcome :)
S -> NP VP | S Conj VP | S Conj S
NP -> N | Det NP | N PP | Adj N | Det Adj N | Det N
PP | Det NOM | Det N PP
VP -> V | V NP | V NP PP | V PP | V NP PP Adv
VP -> Adv V NP | VP PP | VP AVP | V PP PP | V
ADJP
PP -> P NP
AVP -> Adv | Adv Adj | Adv AVP
NOM -> Adj Adj N | Adj N | Adj NP
ADJP -> Adj | Adj PP
**I am not sure about these two clause below**
VP -> V | Adv
NP -> Adj Adj N22 -

design related.
By god if M&B bannerlord's ui isn't sexy af now!
They got the perfect design on the kill icons when a user takes out an opponent, great contrast, a couple fonts that do their job to the T and match the experience nicely.
Maybe this is all just nerd shit, but good design always gets me hot an bothered.
It's a significant improvement from the first game.
Got check it out. Music is obnoxious af so just mute it or something.

Weeeee for machines with superficial attributes making them look like people !
KAGOME KAGOME
https://youtube.com/watch/...
theres some of that uniqueness as it applies to logic.
logic dictates a system only works if the people who are part of it want it to work as it should, not to their own agendas which make it not work just have the superficial appearance of working which makes it not the intended system.
but still a system of some sort.1 -

shall we begin the terraform stories?
terraforming things is nice. the vcloud director provider of Terraform is also nice..ish.
for fucks sake, why do folks at VMware release a provider for use in fucking production, that only does support barely a third of all features, including the distributed logical router with all its funkyfuck features? nsx-t is nice, but did you folks remember all of those customers, who do run the old nsx-v?
you've decided that nsx-v shall be put to sleep. okay. fine. nice.
but don't you think, that the version 3.3.ass should support all major resources of your product, including old nsx-v features like the fucking DLR?!
sorry, but a product, that only supports ⅓ of all features, that can be managed in UI, only deserves a RC label at best. calling this a 3.3.ass is bold. you can't even setup a dhcp pool for a defined network. dafuq people..?! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻2 -

Is there any Chrome extension out there to solve this exact problem? Less action to copy-paste texts?
Or should I make one? How many of you are likely to use something like this? -
