Neural network based 3D indoor location tracking on a moving ship in the middle of the ocean with ar visualization for the crew to find guests.
You are on a cruise, you have an app on your phone to order stuff (drinks, meals etc)
Once you order an indoor location system calculates your position (based signal strength on training) on the ship(x, y, z)(deck, area etc) and sends it to the crew.
The crew wears an ar glass and once your order is ready they get a realtime ar navigation to you.
It was seriously over-engineered 😀
We used the phone’s bluetooth and beacons on the ship to calculate the position based on signal strength.12 -

So I manage multiple VPS's (including multiple on a dedicated server) and I setup a few proxy servers last week. Ordered another one yesterday to run as VPN server and I thought like 'hey, let's disable password based login for security!'. So I disabled that but the key login didn't seem to work completely yet. I did see a 'console' icon/title in the control panel at the host's site and I've seen/used those before so I thought that as the other ones I've used before all provided a web based console, I'd be fine! So le me disabled password based login and indeed, the key based login did not work yet. No panic, let's go to the web interface and click the console button!

I have been using Linux based system from so long but last week I was building outlook add-on using Visual studio. It was a nightmare to work on visual studio(Or any IDE in Windows) after working for a long time on Linux/UNIX based systems. So much of mouse clicks, worst console experience, etc. Windows is definitely not for developers.11

It's a genuine question. Do we really need AI in all those areas? And is AI better than a static ruleset?
I'm not much into AI/ML (I'm a paranoic sceptic) but the way I understand it, the quality of AI operation correctness relies solely on the data it's
datamodel has been trained on. And if it's a rolling datamodel, i.e. if it's training (getting feedback) while it's LIVE, its correctness depends on how good the feedback is.
The way I see it, AI/ML are very good and useful in processing enormous amounts of data to establish its own "understanding" of the matter. But if the data is incorrect or the feedback is incorrect, the AI will learn it wrong and make false assumptions/claims.
So here I am, asking you, the wiser people, AI-savvy lads, to enlighten me with your wisdom and explain to me, is AI/ML really that much needed in all those areas, or is it simpler, cheaper and perhaps more reliable to do it the old-fashioned way, i.e. preprogramming a set of static rules (perhaps with dynamic thresholds) to process the data with?23 -

i'm starting a project where i will have a large amount audio clips, anywhere from a few seconds to about an hour long, and i need to store them based on which user created them and what group they are created in (so they will be sorted based on two integers). i'll need to concatenate and/or merge the audio files frequently, and i may need to filter which audio i use based on users and time created.
how should i store the audio? i'm pretty sure a database is the best option, but should i consider using the file system? if i shant, should i use mysql or postgres? i know postgres has more types and supports complex queries.

Since when has Brave based on the Chromium base been the main download?
Today my legacy Brave based on their own base crashed and as it seemed unrecoverable, I tried reinstalling. But now I'm stuck with this crappy Chromium based browser... I hate the non tab-pages and lack of tab peeking.
I initially had the Dev channel version but only as a backup for my main Brave because I realized how crappy it was, safe in knowing that at the time the main download was the old Brave Core. Now I'm really annoyed.2 -

I disabled auto update on all my chromium based browsers I use to make sure they don't send any telemetry in background os process, because all companies that make chromium based browsers run the process in background when browser is not running.

Absolutely frustrated with some people's inability to make the information in their databases consistent. Had a request to make a report based on some criteria, and couldn't find the information from tables that seemed to have most of the information. Some information was correct based on what was on the website, some was not. What the fuck.1

I am working on a pub-sub based protocol (like MQTT) with some added features. I am developing a python based server for my protocol which can be run on distributed architecture with load balancing without any tweaks. I am planning to make this server and the protocol open source.
The whole thing is getting so complex that I think about scrapping this project sometimes. I need your inspiration guys. Really, I need it. I know this protocol will be good enough to help people working on IoT, chat or any pub-sub based application if I can complete it. Cheer me up, please. -

Apparently you cannot filter based on two parameters in firebase so something similar to "select * from table where email='something' and password ='something' " doesn't work .
So a shitty hack is to create a string to concatenate email and password and store it as a field and validate based on that field.
So basically there is a field in database which is

This might be a silly question, but why (and why not) would one implement a dynamic navigation bar to a web app (.net core razor pages)?
What are the pros / cons of using a dynamic navbar over pure HTML? All I can think of is to render the navbar based on specific settings per client or to show / hide certain options based on roles / authorization.1 -

Heard an interesting idea: along with estimating tasks based on time/points, a dollar value should be placed on it by the product owner, basically how much money they think completing the task would bring in for the company. If this was based off of real data, I could see a lot of tickets being moved back into the back log.

My employer provides me with a MacBook to use at work, however they use a custom OS X image that has whatever security configuration they decided was essential. Something about the configuration prevents me from running third party Python packages.
During those times that I'm "waiting for work things to compile", I'd love to tinker with a little Python project I'm messing with. Does anyone have any suggestions on cloud based IDEs for Python?
Yes I've Googled it, plenty of results. But anyone have suggestions based on their own user experience?
