Was writing a first product for my best friend and my first company/startup. (that one is on hold now by the way).
Spent about a month doing a full-time internship and also programming after that the entire day. Weekends full of programming as well and after a few weeks I noticed that when turning around/walking quickly, I lost my balance.
Went to the doctor who immediately asked if I worked loads and loads to which I answered yes.
He took a look at my daily patterns in general and then told me that I was having a thing which you were only supposed to get at old age and that I was heading towards a burnout because my body was highly not used to/ready for this.
Continued for a little and people started asking why I looked so white (my face lost color) and unhealthy.
Started to take care of myself and voilà, within weeks I was getting better :)6 -
Spent nearly a day to get this tiny laptop-tablet to work.
I got myself a second hand Asus T100TAF but Linux compatibility was far to be found. Online resources said I'd be very lucky if I'd even get the touchscreen or the WiFi to work.
I've been installing distro's all day and I finally have a working version!
Lubuntu with Budgie as desktop environment. Touchscreen works out of the box and some random person on the Linux mint forum linked to a github thing. Lost all hope already but this made the fucking WiFi work.
Can dock and undock it and it works great.

I have a huge problem.
I fell in love with a girl and I can't concentrate enough to code. I sit at my PC, open editor and start, but from time to time I find myself staring blindly into a screen realizing i lost some time thinking of her. Yep. So the dev teams boss says it's fine to run a production environment on a single Windows instance with the db on that same instance, which they already totally lost once from a reboot after an auto update before I came along tasked with fixing the cluster fuck they created.
This from a man who somehow runs a dev team while using gmail via the web because he can't use an email client, uses email to track tasks but can't because they get lost amongst his 3000+ unread emails, has a screen dirtier than a hookers vag on half priced Tuesday, and got a new laptop but had to get his daughter to set it up and transfer his data because he couldn't.

My call team lost power. If our major clients try to call and can't, we're fucked. My boss isn't helping and I can't do shit about it without him, he just keeps saying they need to get power. Most of the time there's a support service from the people who made this software and they would be glad to help you. (Sorry support team, for pushing this bundle of incompetence onto you, but I guess she didn't even listen to my advice).
After that she didn't back down and still wanted my help. Then my grandmother derailed the conversation and got me out of this. When I thanked her later she yold me that she saw I saw uncomfortable and wanted to help. I love my grandmother.
So I am not going to be your "family" tech support. You b(r)ought this onto yourself. Are more than twice my age and still can't use your brain to solve problems like these on your own and you can even less reason abiut your motives and desires when asking for help. I am sick of you and shutty opinions about people, just because I work as a software engineer doesn't mean I'm exist solely for satisfying your unreasonable desires.
Stop offending me and my profession and get yourself some common sense.

The visiontek radeon 7750 seems great, manufacturer is AMD.
When searching for images of the *visiontek* radeon 7750 vs the AMD radeon 7750, I get different pictures, according to some product pages the visiontek amd radeon is produced by amd though....
They both have six inputs..
Point is: I'm going to run Linux on it (i refuse to install malware/spyware on my system for obvious reasons) and AMD has native Linux drivers for the radeon 7750: are those also for the visiontek radeon 7750?

Dropping out of school. So many lost years on keeping up with stupid and incompetent shits, with the piece of paper at the finish line not obtained. I did that twice and lost.. what, 5 years on that? Time I could've spent doing self-study instead. I'm not saying that anyone else should drop out - don't! - but for me, going to school doesn't seem worth it when I can learn on my own, and do it much faster. Unfortunately however those stupid pieces of paper are still regarded as valuable by some.. so whether refusing to get those is a good or a bad idea, only time can tell...10

Something I refer to as the "Lost Cause Syndrome".
Basically you start working on a project enthusiastically with the resolution to write the best possible code. But either one (or some or all) of management, client and colleagues succeed in transforming the project into a comedy (or tragedy, depending on your outlook) of errors.
Then finally, one day you decide that the project is a lost cause and stop caring about it. You end up in a "Let's get this over with and get out of here" type of mindset without making any efforts to improve the situation.3 -

- Port forwarding works well: confirmed.
- Connection type: UDP; confirmed.
- I *can* dig from the host (dedicated server) to the vm.
- nmap scans show an open port.
The exact same happens on my local network.

I have pages of dated notes, pseudo-code and function in the still need written. I have about 75% of the actual code up and functional, but I have no idea what I was working on when other things got in the way. I've been staring at this mess that I swear was once organized and made total sense and I'm completely lost.

It gets really irritating when I get turned down for jobs because, despite provable experience, I don't have a degree in computer science.
I can't go back to college because one of the colleges I was at lost my transcripts. And here, by law, the college you are applying to must have your entire transcript history before admitting you.

It's going to be rough for us to fit it into our existing schedule, but I guess the budget (unusually high) compensates." After I say OK, I find out that they were actually about to sign a FE application that takes data from various document management applications. I lost my shit. I recently started learning C++, thanks to Javidx9, he has one of the best YouTube channels I've ever seen, but learning it feels like every step I make I shoot my leg in the most painfull way, and every fifth step I get a massive cake.
I am very happy I already know C or I would've been completely lost.

I lost my remote job of two years due to our startup failing. After applying to various companies, two weeks later I get my first job offer😀(And I'm not even that skilled).
In comparison, a very experienced friend of mine who works in sales and business administration has been looking unsuccessfully for a job for over a year.

A few weeks ago, I was reassigned to another project. Ever since I have been in love with this new project. It has made me get my passion back for coding. I hadn't realized that I had lost it and how it had affected my mental health.

I've been sort of lost after New Year's...
Last few years, my main goal was just to learn stuff to pass technical interviews. I also did a lot of personal dev in C#... and played with the js, python, and when a bit of c++.
But this year I kinda feel sorta of "ah screw it". Interviews never work out, haven't for years, what's the point in even trying... I get paid enough though the work is sort boring and team sort of feels like the Wild West, no rules, code reviews, processes...

Feels like coding has lost its place at the top now. The future is all cloud, machine learning, big data/real time analytics but feels like these are out of reach for just 1 guy...

I've spend about 3 years with this year now. I am thinking of dropping it, because my grades only get worse, but on the other hand I had my dream of attending an university plus all the years that I've kind of lost here...

Was thinking of writing a blog about my recent experiences with C and Linux . Although the concepts i learnt are not so great , i searched a lot for some . Thought i would help my juniors by giving them an additional battery for their flashlight incase they get lost in the woods .

I’ve been coding for over 25 years, for the last 10 years my primary languages are C#, C++, Xaml. Prior to that I used to develop web applications.
Just recently, I’ve totally lost my motivation to code, I used to come home at nights and do stuff for myself, at work i used to develop utilities and apis to help everyone, some of which have been made production ready and released.
Now I just cannot be arsed......

My ideapad 320s didn't have a giant battery-time to begin with, but now, after having it for 14 months, it already lost 9 percent capacity, and the loss seems to get faster.
Every time I check upower, after I charged it, the max-capacity is a little lower.
If it will continue like this, my laptop might be pretty much unusable in about 2 months.3 -
Had to replace my Huawei watch due to a charging pad getting eaten away.
Bought on Amazon but returns always get lost so I went to my local Huawei service center but they had no stock and ordered one for me to replace mine. Today I picked up my new watch and they freaking upgraded me to the 4g watch.

So I'm still new to programming. Mind blown every day learning python. Although self learning does get confusing sometimes. Somehow I'm learning pen testing now and already installed Kali on a virtual box. Pretty sure I aimed at making a multi platform mobile app to begin with.... Yep, from Kivy to changing Mac addresses, am I lost? Or this is the way to dive in?4

It was time for a new phone.
well... most of my logins have now 2 factor authentication. That got me thinking:
imagine that you lost all your trusted devices in a house fire.
you cannot get in your email because of you need to verify.
you cannot buy stuff online because your phone gets a message.
and in certain cases you cannot even get in your password manager of the same reason.
I know that there are recovery codes and other solutions to this.. oh boy you are F*cked when you don't have your phone.
Everything turned out okay, Sim Card in different phone for messages. And new phone works like a charm :)14 -
If you have an hard-to-use API, you need a fucking strong documentation. Otherwise, a fucking developer like me will get lost and will spend days and days trying to make it work. Man up that documentation, for God's sake.5

I'm just joining this field, and already I hate it when family ask what exactly I'm learning.
I can either dumb it down to the old "I make computer go beep beep" and get met with accusations of rudeness, tell the full details and have them look lost, or try and dumb it down and get met with patronizing remarks ("Oh yeah, I remember doing that last Thrusday! Sure, yeah!).

I just don't get it. I've done web stuff for 20 years, but these days I'm expected to learn god knows how many command line tools just to stay relevant in the field. I fear the day I have to leave this crummy company making small websites, I just don't have what it takes to learn all that shit and get a job elsewhere.
Webpack, NodeJS, Angular... when I look at their docs I just get lost in all the jargon and I think to myself: I would rather stock shelves like a chum then learn all this goddamn shit over and over and over, my generation can't afford shit anyway so there is no point in doing the absolute minimum to survive.
Meanwhile the recruiters on LinkedIn all talk like the jobs they have are like a visit to fucking Disneyland compared to the soulless mindfucking grind a job entails. GAHHHH!1 -
I have had a meeting with "CTO" of pretty big factory. I was suppose to propose a new cloud solution for existing Sharepoint application. Unfortunately we didn't get into any agreement , because the dude only accepts SharePoint solutions and when I started talking about the cloud, he literally went nuts. He later have told me that he has been working here for over 20 years. The technical staff of that factory is just him and some other young guy and they only task they doing is to maintain complex Sharepoint infrastructure. If we hosted application in the cloud, he would lost his job.1

Switching workplace after new year.
Already told boss I'm quitting last week. And it is like as soon as It was official I lost all patience with the company bullshit and lost the little interest I had left for my daily work. The codebase seemes bad before but now it feel 100x worse.

Working on a new release. This release was tested locally and pronounced good. The release went to the QA environment. QA responds that a new feature is doing nothing. There are no errors reported, and work is being done on the UI, but is not get getting persisted to the database so all changes are lost when the session is lost. Do some investigating. I find that a web service had the code in two of its methods commented out. Why? No idea. No response yet from the developer who just had the two methods return a boolean denoting success while all other operations were commented out.
I need an appropriate punishment for this...3 -
After months and months of waiting for the devRant mousepad to become available again in their store ... it turns out it's going to be ducking expensive to get that item (shipping costs as much as the product itself... and it could take 6 more weeks to arrive!) Riddle me this: (Arch) Whenever network connection is lost, NetworkManager freezes for a good 10s. Neither nmcli nor nmtui nor client applications get anything back from it during this time. After that 10s, it detects that the connection was lost and continues normal operation.10

While I can get by without a watch perfectly well by simply checking my phone for the time, I was thinking of getting a smartwatch at some point. Is it worth getting a smartwatch just yet, or should I wait and get a cheap Casio until better smartwatches are available? (I have a Moto G.) If it's worth it, clearly this weekend is a good time to buy, as some pebbles are half price and the Moto 360 is slightly reduced.8 -

I completely lost access with connection reset by peer, however, earlier today I kept having my session auto disconnect on only one server, the only way I could gain access is to remove and then install openssh again

I worked directly in my Github repo folder while working on a project (don't ask me why). I did my initial commit with all my code from the start until 5 hours ago. I never pushed.. A minute ago, I checked my commit and noticed that there were DB credentials in one of the files. So.. Smart me.. "revert commit"..
Result. Everything got deleted except my node_modules folder and the readme file.. I lost everything.. Fuck me, I'm going home..
Please, someone.. Can I get these files back via git or something? Can't find anything in in the history..9 -

Tried to install gitlab on my RPi3. Not gonna try this again. Didn't really get it running and lost quite some time installing, configuring and removing it.
Afterwards someone told me that I should have at least 3.5Gb of ram, if I want to selfhost it, for a goodish user experience. Might have been the reason why thay was so awful, but holy fuck, that's a lot of memory. I wonder if that's RoR's fault or simply because gitlab is a such huge software 🤔

The company owner rage fired someone in the networking team for screwing up. He has done stupid shit like this all the time.

A few months back I tried to get the company I work for to invest in software to located and recover lost/stolen devices. I brought a few offerings to the table but I was told we didn't need to worry about that because it never happens and we already have software in place.
Fast forward a few months and I'm looking at the software we're using and it seems we haven't actually configured the computers to allow for tracking. I send a message to our CTO about this and point out that, in the event of a missing device, we can't actually relocate it. Not 5 minutes later a manager comes in to let us know that his computer is missing and may have been stolen because his car was broken into the previous night.
Well I'm laughing because this is just the kind of thing I needed to happen, and the manager is freaking out because he's afraid the CEO is going to be furious. I get a few emails from other members of the leadership team requesting we set up a meeting to go over our security and asset protection procedures.
So I finally get to start implementing some actual security protocols around here. And fortunately the lost laptop was actually recovered because it was left at a bar and not in the car when it was broken into. -
When playing games I usually get bored after a while. This happens a lot in modded Minecraft for me. I am playing a Minecraft modpack with my kids and I just had the most wonderful thought.
I am going to create a huge "lost" city of Atlantis in the ocean using Minecolonies to populate the city. It will be a technological take on the city with automated boats and machines. Maybe do an Aztec like building structure. I think this would be great fun!
Maybe I won't get so bored so quick. This pack also has the ability to travel to different planets. Maybe I will make this civilization a space faring take on Atlantis.12 -
So, This new company I joined, My first task was to revamp the codebase. have ended up cleaning up the garbage so much that I have lost all my touch with innovation. I am just doing regular and tedious feature replication. I hope I finish this soon and get into real things!! building something from scratch.

Since the last project was a CLI application I’m gonna re write it as a GUI with WPF and use the project to teach me more about WPF. But after this I’m honestly fucking lost.
I have to get a few more projects done after this. so I can get ready to apply to (my first) development position. -
It just hit me. If you wanna achieve something great you have to dream big. If you aim for something humble, you'll just get lost in the endless land of diminishing returns where you take forever to make little progress
If you aim high, you are naturally inclined to do big strides since you feel that there is still so much left to be done

My first intern for school.
It was for less than two months (so I don't get paid), and it was developing HTML on Joomla!.
I lost money (since I was living on my savings, no scloarship during the intern, and had to take the train, which wasn't paid by the company, of course no), nothing more learned, I wouldn't call valuable that experience since I want to avoid CMS as most as possible, lost a whole summer.
I have it on my CV just to talk about it and say "Never again"6 -

My HDD broke last night. Woke up to something making squeaking sounds. It was the HDD. When it broke, my laptop also acted weirdly. My laptop wouldn't even shut down. Let the battery drain, but lost the HDD. Something is broken, internal. Cannot recover the data myself because it no longer rotates. I now have to spend hundreds of dollars to get it to a data recovery company.

the mnist sample made sense, but now I'm looking at Gans and CNN's.. and now all of a sudden I'm lost.
True also are the examples I'm finding of something I know I was able to get to work when more at peace once upon a time called wavenet for text to speech.
I used the Onyx model however which was very easy to implement, but I quickly get lost looking at the tensorflow and pytorch code, even though it is very short I feel intimidated.
The ssd mobilenet documentation also is pretty straightforward, but when I look for wavenet information about providing input in what format and interpreting output I'm having some trouble.
Its frustrating.
I'm tense, I'm poorly rested, I'm sick of having to redo crap and I'm surrounded by people who make me hypervigilant, skin crawly and tense.
How to overcome these things when I'm not at peace at all ?

so about late june-ish, my azure student subscription expired, which i wasn't notified about. but that's fine, surely once it's expired i can get my data back, right?

i try to download the .vhd file with my nodejs project on, and then contact their support after failing to mount the vhd. i asked them whether they could get my data for me (or at least provide some clear instructions, in case i mounted the vhd incorrectly). instead i was told to do loads of things, creating blobs, making snapshots, etc... all of which did absolutely nothing.
mid-august, i'm still trying to get my data back, when i get a call from, you guessed it, microsoft azure. a manager had told me that all my data had been lost, and that i was eligible for $500 in credit in compensation. i was angry (and rightly so), and refused their offer. i emailed azure support again expressing my anger, for them to tell me that my data wasn't lost...?
come to mid-september, and and i was fed up of waiting for my project. i wanted to finalise the fucker and launch the website, but azure had stalled me for well over two months. i had to put some money towards azure just to start up the vps, zip up the project, transfer it to another vps, and shut it back down.
and that kids, is why i wouldn't ever recommend azure.

Any tips on how to focus at work? Just got my first job a few months ago and I'm having huge problems at focusing for 8h a day. Has anyone else lost all compatibility with Netbeans 10 and javafx on linux? I can't for the life of me get any packages to work together to fix the problem. Even installing "Netbeans8" and jdk8 and openjfx8 doesn't fix the problem.2

Any recommendations for a daily planner that runs on Win7?
Prefer to have something desktop based (with Sync if possible) as I always have too many browser tabs open so a web based one will get lost or closed and therefore not do its job.
