Boss: Need the software ready till evening.
Me: Haste makes waste.
Boss: You are going to write waste anyway.7 -
Me: "I'll never be able to do this"
Me: "I suck at coding"
Me: "What am I even looking at"
Me: "Im going to get fired for being incompetent"
Me: "They could have hired a child with more coding prowess"
Supervisor: "Hey, good job. Keep up the good work."
Me: "Pfft of course you're talking to a pro here."13 -
When I finished my studies, I was looking for a job and had an interview at a smallish company.
Boss: can you do C?
Me: yes, I have already done some stuff in C.
Boss: I mean, are you really good in C?
Me, growing suspicious: well yes I already have been using it - but anyway, there's also the project documentation for looking up, right?
Boss: uhm, the code IS the documentation.
I envisioned myself being drowned in undocumented spaghetti code and wasn't really keen on that job anymore, but my following question pretty much ended the interview:
Me: oh, I see. Do you have any roadmap for getting your development to a more professional base?
His looks, priceless! He was just shocked when he realised that he had failed my interview, and that I was a fresher made it even harder to digest for him.30 -
Learnt Murphy's law the hard way,
Don't use your office laptop to create a personal auto porn downloading project specially when your boss suddenly wants to use your laptop to do a product demo to client.
Now looking for a new job, let me know if anyone need a smart developer who loves solving problems like the one mentioned above.26 -
Interviewer: So how long did you work at your last job?
Man: 30 years
Interviewer: and how old are you?
Man: 22 years
Interviewer: you're 22 and you have 30 years of experience that's not possible
Man: and you are looking for a junior dev with 5 years of experience4 -
Rough analysis of LinkedIn inmail’s I get:
Hi <5% of time, not my name>,
I was looking at your profile <97% a lie>. I was very impressed with your <10% something I’ve never done> experience working for <5% a company I’ve never heard of>. Would you be interested in hearing more about <60% a job I’m not suited for>, they offer amazing benefits and have a great culture!
... no8 -
I wasn’t even looking for a job, I just went out for drinks with friends and I met this random dude. I complained to him about work wanting us to go back to the office, to which he replied that I should go work for them because they’re remote and looking for people. I had a look at their openings and they had a role with fewer responsibilities and a lot more money, so I applied. It’s been 3 months and I’m so glad I switched.11
-
I got a call from the recruiter today and she asked me for my current salary. When I told her, she replied "Based on your experience and skill set, that's too low".
"That's why I am looking for a job"
I cried internally 😥8 -
How can they think that anybody falls for those ads?
Honestly. = != ==
Also: German and English mixed? Choose one, best stick to English if you want to look serious about looking for developers.
What does Job == interested even mean? The job is interested in the candidate?14 -
**Looking for a job**
Sees a posting saying 20+ years Linux experience....The hell, why don't you just get Linus to do that job... -
*fiction* At a job interview:
"We are looking for someoje with 4-5 years of exp. in plep.js framework"
"Yeah, I've worked a lot with it"
"How well do you know it?"
"Perfectly I think, I released it last month"1 -
Job posting I saw a few weeks back:
"Looking for a web developer who knows JavaScript or how most people refer to as Java."
Jesus...6 -
So I've been looking for a Linux sysadmin job for a while now. I get a lot of rejections daily and I don't mind that because they can give me feedback as for what I am doing wrong. But do you know what really FUCKING grinds my FUCKING gears?
BEING REJECTED BASED ON LEVEL OF EDUCATION/NOT HAVING CERTIFICATIONS FOR CERTAIN STUFF. Yes, I get that you can't blindly hire anyone and that you have to filter people out but at least LOOK AT THEIR FUCKING SKILLSET.
I did MBO level (the highest sub level though) as study which is considered to be the lowest education level in my country. lowest education level meaning that it's mostly focused on learning through doing things rather than just learning theory.
Why the actual FUCK is that, for some fucking reason, supposed to be a 'lower level' than HBO or Uni? (low to high in my country: MBO, HBO, Uni). Just because I learn better by doing shit instead of solely focusing on the theory and not doing much else does NOT FUCKING MEAN THAT I AM DUMBER OR LESS EDUCATED ON A SUBJECT.
So in the last couple of months, I've literally had rejections with reasons like
- 'Sorry but we require HBO level as people with this level can analyze stuff better in general which is required for this job.'. - Well then go fuck yourself. Just because I have a lower level of education doesn't FUCKING mean that I can't analyze shit at a 'lower level' than people who've done HBO.
- 'You don't seem to have a certificate for linux server management so it's a no go, sorry!' - Kindly go FUCK yourself. Give me a couple of barebones Debian servers and let me install a whole setup including load balancers, proxies if fucking neccesary, firewalls, web servers, FUCKING Samba servers, YOU FUCKING NAME IT. YES, I CAN DO THAT BUT SOLELY BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THAT FUCKING CERTIFICATE APPEARANTLY MEANS THAT I AM TOO INCOMPETENT TO DO THAT?! Yes. I get that you have to filter shit but GUESS WHAT. IT'S RIGHT THERE IN MY FUCKING RESUME.
- 'Sorry but due to this role being related to cyber security, we can't hire anyone lower than HBO.' - OH SO YOUR LEVEL OF EDUCATION DEFINES HOW GOOD YOU ARE/CAN BE AT CYBER SECURITY RELATED STUFF? ARE YOU MOTHERFUCKING RETARDED? I HAVE BEEN DOING SHIT RELATED TO CYBER SECURITY SINCE I WAS 14-15 FUCKiNG YEARS OLD. I AM FAMILIAR WITH LOADS OF TOOLS/HACKING TECHNIQUES/PENTESTING/DEFENSIVE/OFFENSIVE SECURITY AND SO ON AND YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT I NEED A HIGHER LEVEL OF FUCKING EDUCATION?!?!? GO FUCKING FUCK YOURSELF.
And I can go on like this for a while. I wish some companies I come across would actually look at skills instead of (only) study levels and certifications. Those other companies can go FUCK THEMSELVES.39 -
That's it. I'm done. I'm out. Tired of a team and manager who refuse to make me feel like part of the team.

I asked: What are you looking for in a developer?
They: Just that he is a fun guy. We'll take your word on your technical capabilities.
Needless to say, I didn't get the job.7 -
From the director of the department within a large investment bank: "We will be looking into converting all Java code to Cobol because it is easier to work with".
Needless to say I started looking for a new job that night.6 -

So a company is looking for a web developer intern with minimum 3 years of job experience! What kind of intern that would be!10
-
A recruiter asks for my LinkedIn credentials to save me from the hassle of updating my profile.
Is this the new 'send me your cv in .doc format so I can write whatever I want in there'?
I'm not even looking for a job and I don't know who you are! Fuck off!3 -
Boss: agrees to unreasonable deadlines.
Team: misses deadlines because they're unreasonable.
Boss: "you just don't understand how important the deadline is"
He legit thinks the only reason we fall behind, is because we dont care. Not because we're doing stuff that hasn't been done before, and need to tech ourselves everything as we go.
Also, he's not a programmer, he's a salesman... and he runs the company like one too.
Anyone looking to hire a VR/AR developer?5 -
today while I was at work, gets a call from an unknown number
Some lady: "hello, is this Mr XYZ."
Me: "yes".
she:" are you looking for a job? are you working somewhere?"
Me: "I'm currently wor... *she ends the call*."
what the fuck that was, fuck you. at least let me finish the sentence god dammit7 -

Still looking for jobs and look what I found:
Title starts off bad, they can't even spell Android LOL, then go on to ask for someone with experience with Xcode and objective-c, interface builder and basically iOS.
How are these people able to create job listings without any actual research?
Thought I'd add the last line of my similar rant,
Lol What a fucking joke...3 -
Job title :
"PHP and MySQL Programmer"
Job description :
"We are looking for a Flash Developer with a high level of proficiency developing ActionScript solutions.... bla bla Development in a 2D and 3D environment"

EDIT: actually it does but why would they put php and mysql programmer if thats not the main things they are looking for6 -
Looking for jobs..
Position: Junior Java Developer
Requiements: Minimum 3 years experience with JEE, Applikations-Server, Persistenz, Open Source Frameworks, Web Services
Honey, trust me, if I had 3 years experience I wouldn't be applying to junior positions.
Job descriptions like this make me so MAD!5 -
I did just quit my job.
It was my first job ever.
The only job I've ever had.
But I kinda couldn't take it anymore, the pay was a bit too low and the projects were really demanding.
On Monday, I'll sign my new contract in another company, I'm REALLY looking forward to it and barely can wait!
I'll be working with just one tech-stack which is awesome compared to now where I have to work on like 5 different stacks, sometimes in a single day.
I can't wait for the new job to kick in.10 -
I was looking for a part time job when I was 15, knew nothing about coding, got a developer job cause I said I'm keen to learn xD .. 5 years later.. I'm still learning but I have a better knowledge now!4
-
I recently interviewed for a job at company where I had 20 minutes to code a solution in python (whose standard library I know nothing about) to a question, which also included googling certain finance-related APIs, with not one but two technical interviewers looking over my shoulder THE ENTIRE TIME.9
-
Got a message yesterday from a company about some dev job that I applied for a while ago...
Don't remember anything about the requirements, but I know that they were exclusively looking for people highly proficient in spoken and written English.
From our brief chat, I can only hope that the position is for a FUCKING ENGLISH TEACHER!6 -
I don't understand, it's the third time I'm being refused for a job because they want someone with more experience. Then why are you looking for junior developer ?!14
-
Shit morning, I work in tech, so I guess it is related haha.
First, I wake up and it is cold. Like -12 degrees Fahrenheit. With wind-chill, feels like -29 according to Google. Then, while getting ready for work, my only belt breaks. Not a little, but literally splits in half! Fucking sucks, as my pants keep partially falling down and my shirt keeps untucking.
I go out in this cold that could kill a polar bear, go to start my car. Can you fucking guess? Dead fucking battery. Fuck! Now I am super late to work.
Make it to work, and guess what? My manager just promised 100% completion by Friday, and we are weeks behind! Fucking sucks... I think my coworker snapped, as he keeps hyperventilating at his desk for no reason. Oh and our best coder just quit...
Waiting to either wreck my car or find out my dog is dead when I get home...4 -
hardest part of finding a job related to ur developing skills is that theyre asking for years of experience
fucking hell thats why im looking for a job to get more experience3 -
As a student I was looking for part time jobs, one of the job postings was titled "Database assistant". When I looked at the job description, its about filling out excel sheets -_-3
-
my job offer reply rant from today >>>>
Hi,
thanks for the offer but reading from job description your solutions look obsolete, old and complete mess to me.
I am mainly focused on modern open source, flexible technology stack and this job would not be a challenge I am looking for.
Good luck
Kind regards
<<<< end of story1 -
So this is my first rant. I'm looking for my first junior webdev job and this is what I usually find around my city... Also this company is quite tiny. I don't think I will find anything quite soon :(22
-
Money isn't everything.
When I graduated, I chose the job I have now because of the pay and benefits. A couple years into it, and I realize now what a mistake that was. After my first year teaching myself Apex and automating most of my team's work, I hardly spend any time as a developer because of the low number of jobs at the company that allow me to do that level of work within the first five years of employment. I've consistently asked my supervisor if I could move into a more technical space with proof of my work as reasoning to no avail. If your job pays a lot but isn't challenging, you can wind up being just as upset as if you had to work 60-70 hrs/week.8 -
Job title: "Junior Application Developer"
Rest of job description: "4 years experience...Career level: Experienced hire/Professional"
Meaning: "Looking for a senior level programmer willing to work for a junior salary."
I hate job hunting.2 -

In the past week I simultaneously got my degree in the mail and landed a pretty sweet job at a startup that I start working for tomorrow. Things are looking up!5 -
Oh Christ.. just been looking for hosting companies here in Belgium to look for sysadmin positions.. one of the fucking companies posted this: "we provide Uptime-as-a-Service"
The fucking cringe!!! Uptime as a service! Everything including the only fucking job a hoster has, keeping shit up and running.. as a service.. fuck!4 -
I want to leave my job because it only uses old technologies but when I look for jobs they're looking for people with experience on new technologies. Catch-22.3
-
So, I'm a CS student in a third world country. I love coding and I think i'm pretty good at it.
As I'm kind of poor, I'm pretty much constantly looking for any job I can take, and I've already done a dev gig at a software sweatshop here doing mostly PHP, JS and Android/Java... the dev experience was cool, but money was absolute crap ($1.5USD/hour at the current rate, working 9h/day Mon-Sat, did it while in vacation). Better than min wage in my country but still, looking at the numbers I see from programmers all over the world... it was practically working for free. The real problem is almost every dev job here is similar, so I was looking into going remote but every opportunity I see is for seniors/people with 2-3 years experience or more.
Can you give me some tips on getting a remote job as a student/recent grad with little experience? What would you do in my position? Any input is greatly appreciated!17 -
Today a recruiter answered an e-mail I sent 6 months ago when I was looking for a job. Should I answer back in 6 months saying I'm not interested?8
-
I got a job offer today, and I think that finally, I've found a perfect job for me.
"Hi,
I'm looking for a Full *Stuck* Java Developer..." 😂3 -
Do recruiters realize how ridiculous they sound saying they're looking for a "rockstar/ninja/big mover?"
give me an actual job title. -
My previous boss disappeared for a week and didn't tell us why. We thought the team was gonna get fired because of him and I even started looking for a new job. The team got fired, but they kept me for some other work.4
-
I got the job and wow that was fast. I applied for the job on monday at 2 am and they sent me the contract on tuesday (today) at 10pm. Thats 44 hours from the first mail until I got the contract :D
Also: I just love it, the company seems to be exactly what I was looking for5 -
Our CTO doesn't believe that tests improve code quality. We have no tests on any level, no testers/QA, no code reviews. Nada. I wonder why production keeps breaking 🤔 Guess I'll start looking for another job 🤷♂️20
-
I was looking for a job 2-3 months ago and two companies reached out to me after the interviews and offered me a working position. One company was pretty close to me and didn't require me to relocate to another city, even though it was a shittier kind of IT/developer job where we needed to fix legacy PHP CMS's. By that point I had no money and was depressed after looking for that long and jumped on the opportunity. Forward 1.5 months later and the company I started working for decided to file for bankruptcy. Nice huh, working for a whole 1.5 months. I reached out to other company that would have hired me otherwise in hopes they would still have a position open, all they can offer me is a non-paid internship. I would need to relocate to another city where I don't have anywhere to stay and pay rent + a deposit, after which I would be broke again, and they offered me a performance review after the internship after which they would THINK about giving me a job. Fuck this.4
-
Looking for a job as a developer, any type of developer:
Requirements: all skills starting with letters A to M.
Nice to have: all skills starting with letters N to Z.
Well, thanks :/1 -
today is one the worst day of 2018, after this
https://devrant.com/rants/1571445/...
I was looking through the websites which were made in the company last year, and while looking at a website I said: "this website is looking total shit, what the fuck is this".
Guess what, the guy who made the website was there and more worst he's my senior, I'm currently doing a project with him. He was not happy with this comment ( I thought the guy who made this left the company ). I totally fucked up.
Now I will search for another job. I can't bear this.4 -
I'm no longer happy at my current company. I'm deciding to resign once I get another job. Very badly looking for another job.7
-
> So, I am looking for a job.
> I see a position in a video games store for a cashier/consultant.
> The announcement says to apply with a button.
> The button in question works only if you are registered and have your information filled in.
> Registered and filled out the information.
> The button won't work right because the damn website just does not think I entered anything.
This is why I hate online job hunting11 -
Just saw an upwork job post that said
"Apply if you're looking to build your profile and gain experience and not work for money"6 -
Fuck you companies that have hidden requirements in. their. job. offers.
It's so annoying to spend my valuable time on an application for a job that I think myself a perfect fit for, just to find out that they are looking for applicants "with more experience in..." (fill in the gap)
Just fucking put it in the requirements already and save us both our time.3 -
When I get myself a coffee in the morning, opening up my IDE, looking at the legacy code.. my brain starts yelling: "out of the way coffee, this is a job for whiskey"2
-
Just had one of the most cringiest HR interview ever. I'm looking for a new job, and yesterday applied for several med/senior backend developer positions and immediately got response from a well known software company.
We schedule a call today 9:00am, so I take homeoffice and wake-up half an hour earlier than usual.
First thing I notice, lady is 5mins late, but okay its morning, we're all humans, so I don't mind it even though some other person might call it a classical sign of disrespect and hangup right away.
First question: Why did you apply for our company?
- Euhhmm cause I'm looking for a new job and I saw your job ad yesterday?
Second question: Why would you like to work at our company?
- Left speechless.. Well I honestly don't know, not really following your company, I know that you exist but that's about it, shouldn't you be telling me this? (*heavy breathing on the other side*)
The rest of interview left me quite uninterested due to initial questions, like what the hell, I can imagine these being alright for interns and junior developers who might be fascinated by opportunity to work for a big and well known company to build their CV, but c'mon I've went through shit already and honestly don't care for who I work for as long as they have interesting projects, are paying me right and have couple small benefits I'm looking for such as homeoffice, gym card etc..8 -
Finished my internship today, turns out I won't be getting hired because upper management is cutting back due to COVID.
Fuck fuck fuckity fuck, compared to the horror stories I've read here, it was beautiful. The work experience was super worth it though, despite the intern pay. Time to start looking for a real job I guess.2 -
A job requirement post I recently came across. Is there any other skill left? 🤔 Felt like these guys are looking for omnipotent being. Also left me wondering what skills I have since I can hardly cross out 1 or 2.8
-
FINALLY fixed a stupid website issue. Absolutely nothing to do with my job, but it's also no-one else's job - the website was apparently contracted out years ago and everyone just let it go when they saw this thing.
...also 'finally' refers to the fact that it's been bugging me since I interviewed several months ago. I spent longer finding the thing I was looking for than I did fixing it2 -
So here's a story..
Whenever we have a job announcement, whether tech or dev, there's this one guy who applies every single time and never gets selected. I have interviewed him once and learnt that he doesn't in fact have the skills or experience we're looking for. Also someone else with better experience applies everytime. He's been doing this for more than 3 years now.
Now WE feel embarrassed everytime he comes in for interview.
You can't blame him for wanting to work so much with one of the best teams in our tiny country. I gotta say I really admire his perseverance and I think and hope that he's gonna find what he's looking for with that kinda perseverance.2 -
Updated an online profile on a jobsite this morning for a frontend job. Got called this afternoon:
Recruiter: “i have this great frontend opportunity for you. Are you interested and can i mail the vacancy over?”
Me: “yes i’m looking for something so mail it and i’ll get back at you”
A few moments later...
Recruiter mailed a backend function
This is why people don’t like to work with recruiters.3 -
Ohh..The title says there is a job for javascript developer. Let me check the JD(hoping they are not looking for experience in Meteor, ember, backbone, knockout)
*Opens JD*
WTH!!
People really need to know the difference between the Java and javascript. It's so simple
Java is to javascript as Car is to carpet3 -
Just started a new job and am looking through the code base. I think I'll have plenty of material for this site at least. 🙃

Question for all senior developers / lead developers / higher ups out there.
If you were looking for a job, and this company that you applied for which specifically stated that they are looking for a senior developer on the job listing page, asks you to be a junior developer for a few months to prove yourself, would you still be interested in working for that company?22 -
The very first sentence in my profile on many freelancing and networking sites is "I am not looking for a full time job at the moment!" I still get fat to many job offers from recruiters, who apparently cannot read.1
-
You remember my team with scrums that last more than hour? They just decided that it is not enough - we will have another, morning, scrum. I am looking for a new job.5
-
Went to an interview.
Interviewer said "X language is easy compare to our stack".
The next month, I saw on a job post that they're looking for that X role.
I should buy some sandwich2 -
"Why don't you look for a new job?"
I have a monthly coffee meetup with an ex colleague, where we rant about each others frustrations at work. Since she used to be part of my team she knows everybody and can relate to my stories and updates. In short: she was the kick in the boot I needed to start looking, and after the summer break I'll start a new job making 45% more.2 -
!Rant
Any skilled front enders in South Africa looking for a job in Johannesburg? My recruiters definition of qualified is "bookmarked w3schools - once".
It's a well paid job in a great work environment which approves the use of devRant. You will have complete control over design & ux. Lots of interesting things to work on we don't do 5 page sites and WordPress is a swear word.
Happy to offer a joining / relocation bonus.5 -
Just solved this riddle hidden in my friend's agency homepage. www.webfactory.ie. I am not looking for a job myself, but the riddle was fun anyways (despite short).1
-
I am looking for a job, does any one needs a ceo or a consultant? I can be helpful. I have experience of four failed projects, two were of my own and have experience of one successful one.27
-
FUCKING IE!
Anyone please remember to ask if the project|s that you're going to work on do|es need Internet Explorer support.
If it's the case just expect any resemblance of modern frontend development skills go backwards into the backward compatibility territory and never going forward.
I'll start looking for another job, can't be bothered for this payment and regressing my dev skills for client needs.
Again FUCK YOU IE!6 -
Fuck all these companies!! Every time I'm looking for jobs in my area all job descriptions only make me realize that I won't fit these environments and I'm better off starting my own business but I can't think of anything useful to do ... FUCK!!8
-
If you're expecting a call from a company to do a phone screen, make sure your phone is charged... if it dies before you can even tell me why you're looking for a new job and I still can't reach you 15 minutes later, it's very off putting.1
-
A call centre manager is dictating the direction for the development of an app I'm working on.
Everything is working perfectly and then I'm asked to implement logic that makes sense to noone else but her. Then a week later shit breaks. Then I'm blamed. Then I implement a "fix". Repeat this cycle over and over.
I've started looking at local postings for a job in construction.1 -
Job descriptions be like-
looking for an engineer between the age of 21-26 having 30 years of experience. 😂😂😂1 -
Random rant: You should always look for a new job, even after landing a good(seemingly) one. It keeps you on edge and synchronized with the market.
Employers also should not shun people who are looking for new job, if they somehow find out. A developer who looks for a job, gets offer but decide to stay is better than who lost his/her/xir fire.3 -
Job title: python developer (entry level)
“We are looking for a dot net developer…”
Wtf make up your mind lol2 -
I lost my remote job of two years due to our startup failing. After applying to various companies, two weeks later I get my first job offer😀(And I'm not even that skilled).
In comparison, a very experienced friend of mine who works in sales and business administration has been looking unsuccessfully for a job for over a year.
It makes me realise how lucky we are😀2 -
I got my last job more or less by luck.
The freelancer platform I was active on, had once an offer for 100.- if you find a parttime webdev for some small business.
I was looking for this kind of job anyways to finance my parttime study so I wrote back.
15 minutes later, their boss called me and wanted to meet me for an interview.
3 days later, at the interview, we talked roughly 10 minutes about my experience and then it was all about the upcoming project and at the end, about when I want to start and what I want as my salary.
Needless to say I got the job and the best: Also the 100.- 😎 -
When do you tell your boss you’re looking for another job?
I reached the point where I just don’t care anymore and I want to tell my boss that I am actively looking for alternative employment and I will be leaving as soon as I possibly can.
What would your advice be in this situation? Rather wait until I have something in pipeline in terms of new employment? Or just let them know that I have reached this point?10 -
If you're a reasonably established dev and looking for a new role, never.. EVER make your CV public on a job board! I put it up for one day, ONE DAY and yesterday I had 42 phone calls, 15 voice messages and about 25 emails. How is anyone supposed to choose a meaningful, suited opportunity in all that! Information overload! And then trying to sort out times for someone you are interested in to phone you and picking up the phone at that time to accidental answer the phone to someone else (a new agent who has some excellent job roles for you!). Fuck this. Immediately took it down and hoping to look and apply to some myself that I like the look of. Don't do it man, unless you're a junior and it can be quite humbling how agency led it is, look for the right job yourself and apply individually! I have been on edge the last few days, especially where I haven't told my current place I am looking yet!3

HELLO ITS ME RECRUITER. I SEE THAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY NOT LOOKING FOR A JOB, SO, MY COMPANY IS CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR NEW TALENT AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SET UP A CALL.
I would kill to be in this situation a couple of years ago but seriously. I'm not looking. 😐2 -
I was in school looking for intern places when a teacher told the class he had an amazing company for about 20 students. Got the intern job by doing my first ever job interview. After a year I got a traineeship while still in school (3 days school, 2 days work).
Now I have a job there, which for now is helping new interns and trainees while sales is searching for projects for me. (I work at a company which "sells" developers for a certain time, Im not sure what the english term for "detachering" is) -
I'm so done with indeed and jobstreet. I couldn't find an office job that I passionately love. Most are looking for PHP devs, ASP.NET devs, Java devs or effing fresh graduates with 5 years of experience. I guess it's time for me to learn freelancing.1
-
Me: *gets a payout from my old job*
Me: ahhh now to spoil myself, let's get some pixel buds and a day dream set and maybe a nice bottle of whiskey.
eBay: YO! We have that MacBook you've been looking for going really cheap at the moment!
Me: ... I hate myself...
Why does stuff always go on sale when I've spent my money ;-;2 -
Manager: Tell me what you are looking for in your job, I know this from your coworkers, but not you.
Me: I honestly don't know anymore. After all this time my motivation is gone and I don't know where I'm going.
Manager: If you could go back to school knowing all you know now, what would you do?
Me:...
Me: I don't know.
Manager: maybe try to think about that.
He doesn't realize I've been thinking about this for years.
I stopped caring at some point and just act.
I didn't tell him I was looking for a new job because any energy I had left is being consumed by this company.8 -
You know when you decide to choose a language/framework/platform not because it's the best for the job, or the one with most developers, or the one with most job offers, but simply... because it makes you feel good, even just by looking at the code...!
-
One of the major things I find irritating about looking for a job as a developer is that some companies ask you to make demo projects for them (and some of those projects can take days to make..).
It annoys me I have to spend energy on something that may result in nothing. And this gets more annoying if several companies ask it. It's like I'm working for free. I don't feel productive. lol7 -
I stumbled upon this job requirements, and I started to wonder.
What do most employers derive in looking for an IT team in one human being??
This is so graphic jeeeez.19 -
Took some leave recently to interview for a new job. Back to work to find that I have nothing to do. Asked for more work and got nothing. This place just gives me constant reminders of why I'm looking elsewhere4
-
when you are looking for php devs to join you on your startup and they don't understand the meaning of being a founder and expect a salary from the start 😭 you join early to get the long term benefits. a startup job isn't an immediate payday. ugh.3
-
!dev I don't understand why in job ads they write: "Looking for 20 developers". What, are they raising a farm? LoL. Why so many developers.. especially if it's for a small company?5
-
I just got a fucking job again after 2.5 months between jobs and the new place has been allowing (if not encouraging) the piracy of Windows Server in client environments... I thought this place had so much potential but I was wrong.
Going to start looking for another full time job or really buckledown and try to get my freelance project/business started.
BTW fuck microshaft for expensive licensing, but I’m not risking my certs and professional career for some idiots trying to pirate software.3 -
I started searching for a job as I'm insecure at my current position because of this pandemic. What I found is ridiculous.
Companies are looking for junior developers with an experience of a senior developer ready to work for a salary of an intern 😭4 -
Any time I feel like looking for something new because my salary is low, I remember that I would have to go through recruiters, HR, and job interviews and decide to just chill until the next raise.3
-
Looking around for a new job when I find a posting that asks for experience developing and testing webpages with Dreamweaver... I mean yeah back 15 years ago I used it but I didn't even know it was still around... Maybe they meant Frontpage
-
If you have no defined business processes whatsoever nor code quality practices, why bother putting on the job offer "software engineer" or "full stack web developer"?
WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IS A FUCKING PHP HACKER -
!rant
things are looking up for me fam. signed an offer letter about a month ago for a GREAT full time job at a company that's in the process of modernizing their web app, so I get to do modern web dev, and I just scored my first consulting job that's gonna pay me a STUPID amount of money and I don't even graduate college till May!3 -
Got this in my LinkedIn inbox today
"I see you are open to new job opportunity!
I am looking for Sr. Android Developer for a start-up company in San Francisco. They are rebuilding their Android SDK and looking for an Android Engineer like you.
Let me know if you are interested. I would be happy to have a quick chat with you and share more details."
Apparently they're developing a new way of Android development 🤔5 -
Spend 3hrs on a coding excersize for a job interview and recieve the following as the reason they are not moving forward
"Coding style and an error"
Ask for a less vague reply and they specify a problem my code not only accounted for but had a comment specifying how it accounted for it and a spelling mistake in my GitHub repository
Goddam looking for a job is soul destroying7 -
About to quit my job.. looking for another one in a different city for my lady..
The thing is that I love my job, I love what I do, I love my team.. but I love her more.. this may not be the best place for this, how it's on my path to do what I want to accomplish as a Dev and as a human being.. frustration++2 -
Last month I asked my boss for some task to work on. He told me to stick to reading tutorials and wait just a day or two for the tasks.
Month just passed and no programming tasks arrived.
Should I change job?
Yesterday made quite nice looking CV.14 -
Wait, What!
Fresh Grad job fair.
Looking for computer programmers with 3 years experience.
*seriously company how can you expect to get an applicant with 3 years experience in this fair 'insert confuse gif here'3 -
So as you may know, I am job hunting. One company I found, called ruby, sounded interesting (the name helped). They were looking for data science type stuff.
I was about to apply when I got the feeling I should check the description. They were boasting about their flagship product.
Ashley Madison.
Needless to say, I burst out laughing and moved on.5 -
This supposed to be a rant but I have no words to describe in how big fucking mess I am right now while looking for a new workplace...
It’s most unorganized experience that I am part of...
It’s worse then looking for lost key using bare hands in a shit hole....
With last one at least you know what to expect and you have some chances to make some decisions. The hiring otherwise it’s like lottery...
There are no words to describe it.
Fuck...
Let everyone looking for a job right now have my condolences... -
If you are looking for a job. Just post on linkedin a picture of you with few children, make sure there is a blueyellow flag on it as well, and say that you are looking for a job. You will have hundreds of offers.8
-
Ever had the experience of looking for the perfect js library to do some small job for you, after hours of evaluating, trying to tweak the one that seems closest to what you want, you end up thinking I should rather just code this myself.3
-
Recruiter: we're looking for someone who knows .Net and "JAVA practices".
Me: <WTF is "java practices">
Me: <googling "java practices">
Me: dear recruiter, I know dotNet and good programming practices but there isn't thing like "java practices" in dotNet.
Recruiter: <no shit given>
Me: <why such incompetency is in charge of my potential future job?>7 -
Spent two hours having two recruiters give me test, interviewing, and being told HOW perfect I am for the job I was applying for; Just to be told they are only allowed to send over people they have found previous work for, but I should instead apply to these othwr positions that pay half what I'm looking for.
-
Recruiter on LinkedIn:
"Hi *dev*,
I hope you don't mind me contacting on LinkedIn but I couldn't find your contact details. I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't share this awesome job with you. Can U have you're phone number? I think you are a great candidate for this job.
If it's not quite right for you, please refer your contacts!"
Where do I start...
There's a good reason why I don't have my contact details in my profile. I also have a note saying I'm not looking for any jobs at the moment. If I'm "great candidate" what would you ask me to refer my friends? I know they're doing their job, but honestly it feels like they're retarded or something. -
i was looking for a Junior Android Developer job before this coronavirus pop out of nowhere. now i'm just stuck in the house and the chances of getting a Remote job as a Junior developer is very very thin 😐😐😐. And honestly i'm fed up of learning new skills5
-
One day you're looking for a job for almost half a year, and the next you're being called by a company because they stumbled upon your resume (indirect path) ?dafuq? Wel today was that day, i hope I pass the intake though, wish me luck1
-
My day today:
- tell everyone to fuck off and are idiots politely from 10 to 4
- tell them if they won’t fuck off now I will start looking for a job - 1 hour
- listening them apologizing me - 1 hour
- code and solve problems - 1 hour
Mondays
Hopefully I start working on Tuesday.5 -
our company just lost one stream of revenue that was responsible for 40+% of the companies income. I'm hopeful they can get it back, but I think I should start looking at job listings...1
-
So my gf told me about a job offerin she heard. They're looking for Python dev for a weather website.
Cool sound good.
Thank god I went for a drink with friends that night cause when I mentioned the job...well.
Apparently this dick pays about a 100$ LESS than a MINIMUM wage (not to mention the hostile work environment).
Honestly idk how they even stay afloat. I mean you can make almost DOUBLE working at McDonald's. -
I'll say one thing for June job searching...just by looking at logos it's really easy to shop around for a job that won't be at a woke company. Now I just need a job search filter that lets me sort out the temporary rainbow logos from the normal ones. (Honestly, how does anyone, gay or straight, work at any company that so blatantly shills for dollars through performative pandering? Just June. After that, "Gays? What gays?" Either commit to the WHOLE narrative all year long forever and change your logo permanently or GTFOH.)15

Unemployment week one.
Tired of unsuccessful HR and engineering talks with people who don’t know what they want.
When you answer their questions they got pissed because they had something else in mind. Sorry I don’t read in people’s minds asshole.
Others try to be smart and give you some fancy acronyms. Yeah because that’s most important in coding - to memorize useless acronyms.
I responded with acronyms I know and they got pissed more cause my are more funny and cover all of theirs. Thanks KISS 💋
Some of them are like I am fucking smartest asshole on this video chat and you can’t have been working with all of those technologies, yeah I just typed hello world for 15 years in one language and stupid /REST shitty software like you do it in your one job in your lifetime.
Others are asking for cv, talking about this fancy great project that in fact you know how it will look like cause you’re experienced motherfucker who can pick up nuisance but still lets get hired first and then think what to do next with this shitty crap. So they respond after two weeks that client changed their mind and if you want to fill some quiz about your hiring process.
There are also ones that got impressed so much they’re talking 1 hour that you will be our next cto and then ending process with email that there were better candidates and also post same offer on job board next day 🤦♂️
I think I just skip this shitty nightmare and concentrate on some personal project until I spend all my savings.
I just need to concentrate on one thing and not get distracted with 1000s of voices shouting “pick me” in my head.
Fuuuuuuck
If you got offended fuck you unless you like it.
After working in one project in a big happy days bubble without distraction for couple of years I underestimated how fucked up people are in real world.
We’re making hell by ourselves on this planet we don’t need much help.3 -
How to find out your boss really thinks you suck and that he was planning on letting you go at the first opportunity and hadn't yet figured out how to do it:
1. Realize that you're overworked and overwhelmed.
2. Proactively ask for a reorganization of duties and provide two alternatives with several helpful suggestions about how to organize the work so things still get done, but it's not all on you.
3. Mention quietly that you recognize a third option exists of no longer working there but that you...
4. The boss interrupts you at #3 and basically asks, "How soon can you write your letter of resignation?"
Damn, bro. You could have paused for a second or two before hitting me with that. -
The job I recently accepted scores a facking 5 out of 12 on the Joel Test 😦😦😦
I'm glad to have gotten a job, but it seems like I'll be looking for one again soon4 -
Realising that my skills were stagnating and there was no opportunity to improve them or grow my career.
After 5 years in the same job (longest I've held) I started looking for a new one.
I'm now in a new job, doing much better work (even if it's a little chaotic right now) with the potential for growth in the future.
Whilst I loved the old job in terms of the staff and the atmosphere, I now couldn't be happier I made the decision.1 -
As my contractor job ends and my beginning the process of looking for new work the sudden feeling of imposter syndrome starts washing over me.
"I'm not qualified for any of these positions...", I say to myself, but then I think to myself, I wonder how devRanters deal with this.
So let me ask you, devRant, how have you dealt the *Experience Required* section of most jobs when job hunting?3 -
Everyone knows how hard it is to get your first job. Everywhere wants 1-3 years of experience.
What noone tells you thought is that's hard at the other end. When you're looking for architect/tech lead roles you will see loads of postings but upon investigation they're just mislabeled senior developer positions.
And of course, if you're looking for good money, it feels almost impossible to get beyond the screening stage... -
When you do your job without knowing you did. Now I just use this instead of looking for the function which is compatible.4
-
New task with a march deadline, our 1 developer (me) will work on multiple projects, while also learning about AR (I'm a WebDev) and creating a commercial ready AR app....
I think it's time to get back to looking for a new job... -
I was talking to some people I know that I was looking for a job. My (now) boss overheard that conversation and just told me that I don't need to look any further.
-
At the airport with the missus going back home, making time in the duty free. One of the people working on it asked a very dry "what are you looking for?" with no salutation whatsoever. I was this👉👈close to answer "a new job!"
-
Developer these days are more and more required to become language agnostic. I just wondering nowadays so many job posted looking for "fcking fullstack devs". It sound to me like "we need a b!tch that we can fcuk with anystyle, anytime, anywhere and paid once" #nooffense2
-
Thanks for the advice on my previous rant. Had the conversation and I’ll be looking for a new job.2
-
My fiance is also a developer, we moved to a bigger city and she is looking for a job. She lost all motivation and doesn't want to look at any code anymore... Not even my freelance projects.. Does anyone have any motivational things to say? She doesn't use devrant, but i'll show her this post.3
-
I got a call from a recruiter and told him I wasn't looking for a job. He told me he was ringing for clients who were looking for people who we well looked after in their jobs and not looking for work!
-
How many sh*t days does it need to make me down?
3 ...
I hate my company, for making everything overcomplicated and annoying.... I have to discuss with 3 peoples for 3 days to getting some gitlab premium licenses (20$ per month for 10 licenses)... Why do you need it? Why we can't use the free version? Why Why Why... It's not enough to tell them it will save us much times and improves the quality of development.....
Also I wanted to ask if we can to Jaxb or another Dev Conference this year... Then I got the information that we have about 2000 Euro for 10 people for training.......... What should we do if everyone buys a book this budget is out .... f*ck company....
Second day, half of the day was taken for fixing the live db on the fly cause of a bad structure of tables... at least fixed some other inconsistence too... later the day fixed a freaking shitty bug with Spring Devtools and 2 Classloader to make the product that I'm presenting in 2 days running.
Today next shitty day with discussion that everything I did last half year (introducing Microservices, Kubernetes, Kafka and other DevOps things) could be maybe useless when the external company will say that they use another ecosystem -..- for their microservices...
Someone looking for a disappointed java developer? I just want to develop the best product ever... I'm happy with every area... Frontend, Backend, DevOps, Fullstack, Architect in some kinds depends on the wishes and technologies.1 -
So, if the company doesn't reply or mail you back after a video interview, do you mail back or simply assume you are rejected?3
-
Broke up with my girlfriend due to ongoing stress to commit to the relationship, to perform at my current job, graduating early next March, looking for a full time job/studying for interviews, and going to school.
We never really planned long term and we were just in the relationship to have fun, but man do breakups suck.
I want to be able to focus on myself so I can set myself up for greatness in the future. Unfortunately that means sacrifices have to be made so I don’t lose my mind. Oof4 -
When you have two managers and one of them is trying to screw you into a position on his team even though you have made it clear that you want nothing to do with that type of development.
I am looking for a new job now...3 -
Problem of a beginner dev who's looking for a job:
*When you've become good in a certain framework and yet the company that you're applying to prefers native -
Too many projects, too little time and didn't get a raise. So I now work on projects that people I like ask me to. Ignoring the other pm's while looking for a better job.1
-
I'm preparing to leave my current position.
Anyone have any recommendations on job search service?
I've been looking at indeed and I like their filter for remote and salary. Just want to make sure I'm not getting SEO bamboozled and miss out on a better job posting platform.2 -
Rejection 2 / 1000 of my 1000 job applications TikTok journey
Another vague response. It appears to me as if all of these companies are looking for a top 0.1% FAANG engineer and pay him $600/month7 -
Hello
This is my situation:
Junior
Data Scientist
No working experience
From Latam
From Venezuela
Only allowed to work remotely
No work visa for USA or EU
Weeks looking for job, no luck, obviously.
Everything seems to be against me for land a job, at least a decent one. The other option is try to work in Upwork for 100 bucks implementing full pipelines, that is a joke.
Just sad.13 -
Say you had a yearly review and you asked for a decent raise (to compare you to market value).
Say the manager told you he will talk with the boss and fight for your demands.
After how long without an answer, you'll start looking for another job?
I am waiting for a response over two months now.6 -
Looking to sharpen and pursue a SysAdmin/DevOps career, looking at online job offers to get the big picture of required skills and I say FUCK. It would take me a lifetime.
Azure, AWS, Google cloud platform.
CD tools: Ansible, Chef or Puppet
Scripting ninja with Python/Node and Shell/Power shell.
Linux & Windows administration
Mongo, MySQL and their relatives.
Networking, troubleshooting failure in disturbed systems
Familiarity with different stacks. Fuck. (Apache, nginx, etc..)
Monitoring infrastructure ( nagios, datadog .. )
CI tools: jenkins, maven, etc..
DB versioning: liquibase, flyway etc.
FUCK FUCK FUCK.
Are they looking for Voltron? FUCK YOU FROM THE DEEPEST LEVEL OF MY DEEP FUCK.1 -
If my 'official' job title was programmer but I was also doing network troubleshooting and administration as well as server configuration cause we had no one experienced to do it should I include that on my resume or would it look fake?
Should I only include the programming stuff since that was my job title5 -
Job post I saw today. They are either looking for:
- C/C# Dev to the company
- HAPPY Frontend dev
- Java Dev to the company
Well now.. only the front end gets to be happy but doesn't know where to work while the other two can be grumpy and know they'll work at the company? 🤔4 -
What are some job possibilities for software engineers that are a bit more challenging?
Software Engineering just became routine and with all the hin abstractions during the past years it’s not really a complex job anymore.
Thoughtful about data science but I think I’d get bored with that as well after a few years.
Looking for ideas with:
- technical skills
- have a lot if responsibility
- at least same pay
Would be interested in e.g. investment banking but that seems far out of my league (education wise)..9 -
I was looking at a local job posting for a network engineer. Is it odd to see one of the duties listed as, "Responsible for administration of subpoenas and warrants." ??? Telecommunication company...2
-
Would you go back to a previous corp where the work is mediocre (but handleable) and the people/ benefits are awesome, or keep looking for a new job where you need to learn the climate again?
You are very unhappy at the current place.3 -
Looking for a new job and it's like that toy story meme.
Shitholes. Shitholes everywhere.
On top of that most have plans to restart offices next year and some want me to relocate and change cities. But now I don't want to go to office for more than two days a week.
Sigh'1 -
Is it just me or has the usefulness of Google search been SEO'd to death? At this point only Bing and even freaking Brave Search are providing results that are related to what I'm looking for. Even Gigablast does a better job than Google sometimes (props for open sourcing the backend, Gigablast maintainer guy)5
-
Guys guys guys,
I'm looking to work in Australia,
Should I find a job then get a work visa, or get the visa, get into Australia, then look for a job.
Advice pleases12 -
Manager: calls me on Wednesday and asks that have you moved your changes to UAT on Monday?, the client wanted to test it.
Me: Started looking for a new job immediately. -
Advices looking for a job in Canada as a foreign?
I've been a software developer for 4 years now. I started in small company in Rome as jr developer where I'm now the CTO... I now feel stuck in this job cause the company makes a lot of money from the core product and there is no room for innovation.
I was looking for a drastic change in my life and career and Canada seems a good place to me.
So, any advices?9 -
Almost out of highschool, looking at the requirements for programming jobs is terrifying. I can't afford college but almost every job needs a bachelor's. Hoping for a company that sees the value of training from the base level5
-
You know, I've been fired from my first two jobs, currently on my third. I thought it was stressful enough to look for work when you absolutely need it to keep up your income.
But now I realize that it can be just as hard to look for new work when you are unhappy in your current position. Even if your skills are highly valued.
I've tried having two offers and accepting the one that felt right. Turned out bad in the end.
I've tried getting really excited about the first thing that fell in my lap and just jumping in to it. Did not go well either, as it turns out.
So now, even though I technically have all the time in the world to find the right place, I am second guessing myself constantly.
Should I go for something I'm not sure about because it pays well? - I really need the money, actually.
Or should I tough it out if I find 'The Perfect Place', but they can't pay me what I need?
And a lot of things also make me want to stay and try to fix the situation at my current job.
It's exhausting -_-7 -
NULL
(still looking for one, please send help. I graduate in 2 months and I've been scavenging for a job.) -
I started sending my resume everywhere so whoever accepts my person first and makes final offer the better or worse ( didn’t decided yet ) for them.
Probably better... I hope lol.
Let the fate decide... it never worked so I hope to not be disappointed also this time and got fucked up et the end.4 -
Just got this coding task from a recruiter trying to determine what they want.
This for a front end job but we talked about api/network calls.
Are they just looking for the UI or do they want me to make the agency names dynamic through the different databases?
The recruiter is kind of clueless.
How would you approach this.11 -
Anybody have tips on surviving a company restructuring where your team could get split and members+manager shuffled to different teams?
Besides looking for another job, since you might as well try to get a raise by jumping ship.2 -
I've been looking for job for a long time now and...
There's no more, just that.
I'm very sad about it, my actual company just doesn't care about my opinion at the dev team...
I've been thinking a lot about go with my own start up. What do you think guys?
Sorry for my bad English :/3 -
Received my first recruitment message on LinkedIn today. Generic as fuck "hey your profile looks nice, we have dis thing for you, come take a looksie".
Went ahead and read the whole thing, started laughing while reading requirements:
- own a degree in CS or related field: re-starting college next week
- extensive experience with automation processes: uuuh... I can write bash scripts and gulp tasks, how's that?
- extensive experience with Java, Angular, Selenium and Protractor: sure. Spent two weeks tinkering with those tools. Pretty much an expert already
- two years of experience: not even 6 months into my first job
And some other nonsense
Job would be in a very nice city, extended family lives nearby, actually a nice position. Too bad I am not looking for a job and my classes start on Monday 😂
But hey, at least people are looking at my profile! Yay!3 -
Looking for a software engineer job being mostly self taught feels harder. A this point I'm used to companies not replying to my applications. I failed a coding test for a Silicon Valley startup and learned a lesson. (don't apply for jobs that require knowledge of languages that I don't know nothing about). Anyway I'm still feeling positive and I'm not gonna give up6
-
Don't automatically count yourself out of positions because you haven't done them before, you can learn and grow.
I'm in the best job that I've ever had, but didn't meet all the criteria the vacancy had as "requirements". I had some experience in some of the areas that they were looking for, none in others, but they thought I was the right person for the job. I'll always be grateful for that.
At the same time, you need to be realistic, if you've never even heard of half the things on a job vacancy then it's probably not for you. -
I told a guy I work with that I thought LinkedIn was a dating app. I was very confused when I got a job offer to work here. When at the time I was looking for someone in my life that had an interest in programming.3
-
I'm on a remote contract (has no centraloffice at our company) and was hired to work remote.
New PM wants to reenergize culture. Everyone has to come in and no more flexible hours. Lack of space means no more dual monitors. Lack of desks means we push desks together to form a "conference table." More people working means slower internet. Three people have separate meetings? Someone can stay, someone can sit in reception, and someone is in the hall.
But hey... we can see each other now and we're all available to one another.2 -
Not sure if it is the difference in the state of my mind or if it is the gradual reopening of the markets, but it's weird to me how a couple of months ago when I was looking for a job change, I could hardly find any good opportunities; but now that I am well entrenched in the current job I have, I keep getting random leads for decent job opportunities for the very profile I work in.1
-
I'm actually looking for a new job.
A friend of mine: "I heard that company X is looking for informaticians."
Me: "And what is the job exactly? Do you know which languages/technologies they are asking for?"
Friend: "Fixing computers/printers problems and form employer on how to use product Y"
Me: "No way."
Friend: "Why?"
Me: "..." (Long explanation on the difference between developer and technical support)
I should have understood when she said "informatician" instead of "developer"..1 -
Looking for job as C# programmer be like:
Job offer: C# Junior Programmer
Expectations: Programming in C#
Reality: Programming in C#, JavaScript, CSS and HTML2 -
I can't decide what to do. I don't like my job. At all. I keep looking for new jobs in my area but there are none (just missed an opportunity with Rockstar 😞). I've had an offer to work with a platform that I really, really don't like and requires travel all over the country, but for almost double the money I'm on now. Should I stick with my current job til I find something better? Take this new offer for the money? Completely resign and become a hermit in the wild?4
-
Image you fire 10 resumes each day. No reply. Image you do 2 interviews each day. Got rejected. Image you cold email 10 companies. No reply. Life is meaningless and useless. Looking for job atm, pm me if you have one. The thing I can do is do side projects and keep applying. Life is sucked.3
-
I am looking for a better job, to do that I expand my knowledge by learning new stuff after work. I do this to have a better live, but my relatives pulling me down...
My wife complains that I am always at work, even if I tell her I do programming as a hobby and I learn new stuff to get a better paying job.
In contrary my parents always say that I am lazy bum, because If man doesn't work with his muscles, they don't consider this as a real job.2 -
My previous company is awesome but couldn’t survive under pandemic.
That’s why I was looking for another job.🙂 -
How do you guys deal with looking for a new job while still working at your current job?
I’ve been having to sneak out of the office for phone interviews. Not fun…2 -
Why do all remote jobs on the web mostly accept developers from North America and Europe?
I am a Nigerian who has been looking for a job for a while now since I had to quit my previous job and most remote jobs I find online are either only accepting candidates from North America or from Europe. Is there a reason for this? Tax issues or what? If it is due to tax issues then why do they accept application from other continents? What happened to Africa?5 -
I been looking at the job listing at my country and I can only found the job for web.
What happen to the quality desktop application development?30 -
So I am actively looking for a job as an android dev and well it's a tad bit difficult but today I got an email from a recruiter at a well know company and I was happy seeing that mail, but the link he sent me to send the details didn't work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯5

Today a recruiter messaged me on Facebook. Week ago, I left a post with my CV on a programming group-currently I'm looking for a junior JAVASCRIPT (important ! ) /Node.js position, explicitly said so.
R(ecruiter): "Hello sir, we noticed your post with CV on group XYZ, are you still looking for a job?"
Me: "Yes, of course."
R: "We are building a new team in city X, remote work is possible. I will send you job posting right away."
Started reading it, job title is SENIOR JAVA DEVELOPER. Okay, maybe she sent me wrong document, maybe she wanted me to read just a bit about company and every job posting is pretty generic.
Me:" This job posting is for a senior programmer, I take it you're looking for juniors too ? I would happily take it, it's just I want a job to learn more things. Did you read my CV?"
R, annoyed: "Requirements for this position are quite clear, I believe. We are open to working with people with different experience level."
From there, she was pretty negative but I remained sympathetic and agreed to met with her boss next week. After all, maybe he has a position for me.

Hi all, if anyone is interested to apply, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is looking for full-stack, front-end and back-end developers in their HQ offices in Rome, Italy.

junior dev looking at requirements for first job:
"We want to hire someone fresh out of college but they need to of started working at the age of 14."3 -
Last job and current job I got mostly the same way. Current job was done slightly more effectively.
Here is what I did both times:
* Each day I checked all the job sites for developer jobs in the locations I was willing to travel to. I made bookmarks to various search pages so I could quickly see the results.
* I regularly searched for websites of any IT companies or large corporations that had offices in those locations. I bookmarked these and would check each day to see if they had job openings on their websites.
* Every job I applied for I made a folder with the date and job description.
* Inside the job folders I made a notes.txt file with the wording of the job and links to the ad. I googled the company and added notes like peoples names, etc. to these notes files.
* For every job I made minor alterations my resume to make sure it aligned with the job ad and copied it to the job folder
* I created another text document called cover_letter.txt which had a written letter describing all my experience that matched with the job ad
* Where possible I would call and speak with someone to get more detail about the job and updated the letter and resume accordingly
* Finally I would email or post the letter and resume
Using this method I was able to apply to several jobs every day and I was able to reuse and improve on the letters as the weeks went by. Also since I applied for a lot of jobs when someone replied I had the job ad available to look at.
For both last and current jobs I moved countries. The difference was between last and current was the previous time I moved first then started looking and for my current job I started looking before I moved. For the current job employers seemed to welcome my situation and I had several job interviews lined up for after my arrival. I felt it put me in a better light since I was essentially unavailable until my arrival date compared to before when I was unemployed and looking and getting desperate.
The job I have now I was interviewed while overseas on skype and then in-person the day after landing in the country. They quickly told me I would be hired. It seemed good so I canceled the other interviews. Sorry no exciting circumstances.1 -
Every time I read a job description and they are looking for a "super star" or "rock star" etc I feel they are specifically trying to target the people that were the nerds and geeks in school that just wanted to be popular.1

My new job is giving me a budget for getting a new laptop, looking for some recommendations on good programmer brands, somewhere in the neighborhood of $1800-$2000 USD (not including tax/shipping). I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15, beautiful screen but poor quality reviews. Also, looking at ASUS Zenbook line. Any thoughts on those brands? Any other brands I should look at? I need to run Windows natively, so MBP is out.14

Is there anybody from Moscow, Russia who are looking for a Junior Python Developer? I would like to quit my career as a journalist and try to work as a programmer. These two hours of coding after job everyday isn't near enough for me, I definitely want MORE.1

It was my first job, I went to the interview and the interviewee started looking at my github then he said you're hired you can start tomorrow. The next day I knew they had a web developer who worked there for a week and left because of college and they had projects to do so they just hired me.

Worst one was in my first ever web developer job. It was a small company where everything was done in Adobe ColdFusion. Was there for 2.5 years before they went bankrupt and I got made redundant.
So when it came to look for another job, I was hoping to get another ColdFusion related job. But a lot of company's requirements were pretty bullshit. Junior position, but must have 5 years experience.
After 4 months of looking, eventually found another job but as a PHP developer. But since my PHP skills were beginner's level, I had to start from a new graduate level salary all over again. Felt like the past 2.5 years at my first job was a waste of time. -
Hello fellows devs,
I've been wanting for a while now to get a remote job or just find a job that helps me relocate outside my country. If any of you have managed to achieve any of these would you care to share your story and any advice on how to get it. I've been looking at landing.jobs and seems promising.
Also, can I appear more appealing to recruiters?5 -
Freshers are looking for job but company mother fucker asking for experience how we can have a experience until you didn't give a job fuckers.2

- Every specialist is looking after his area of expertise

I miss the good old days when developers could be developers and rely on DBAs, sysadmins and networkists to do their job well. I miss the days when developers were developing applications, sytems, modules,.. Not troubleshooting ELBs, RDS latencies or building monitoring for servers. -
I spent half an hour writting all my studies down in a job looking site in order to apply for a job (apparently, a CV isn't enough), and when finally everything is done, apparently you need to PAY for premium in order to apply for certain jobs in that site? Are they actually serious?2

I been casually looking for a new job as a senior software engineer. I have about 7 years of experience, mainly back end, and it seems like everyone has a different way of doing technical interviews. What type of questions would you expect to be asked? I've gotten everything thing from white board code and solutions (expected), technical questions (expected), to code an API from scratch (not hard, but not really a good judge of skills). How do you identify whether a job is a sweatshop vs. a good job?2

I was terminated last year from BigTech. Will I ever get another job in another BigTech company?
Not a layoff. Terminated for moonlighting. Lack of judgment on my part. Trying to move past this but the events still haunt me till this day.
Not looking for sympathy. Rather, advice on how to approach job search and background checks in the future. I have big ambitions and don’t want to be an IC forever. I’m hoping this doesn’t prevent me from becoming a manager —> Director in the future.3 -
Not sure if this is against the rules (can’t find it) but taking the risk to post this here.

What I want to say to this client: You are the reason I am secretly looking for a new job.
What I say/email to them instead: I'll review the changes that were made and make some tweaks to see if it helps relieve the issues you are experiencing. -
Random thought while upgrading schema and manually recreating 100+ rows table; when looking for a job, make sure you look for one where company focuses on employing brainpower, not manpower.. 🤦♂️ 🙄

I been looking for a remote job as a junior front end dev for a bit and have found almost nothing. Any help is appreciated4

After spending the year after graduation trying to do a business with some school friends, that didn't make a dime for a year, I decided to look for a real paying job.
My first step was to go to a hackathon and hack for the week-end. I got involved in not one, but 2 projects: the second was because someone I met and won with at a previous hackathon asked me to, and I finished the first project early. Let's call her "S"
Then comes the end of the hackathon, and after it concludes I muster the courage to go on stage and say that I'm looking for a job, so feel free to chat me up.
No one really came to me for a job, but S came to talk to me about the startup she wants to launch, and how she is looking for a tech guy. I was close to dismiss it, because I was looking for a job paying $$$, but agreed to met so that she could show me her business plan and try to convince me.
Turns out she did convince me, because the business plan was solid, she was very motivated, and had already started validating the idea: there was a real need.
Now there we are, 5 years later, about 10 employees and paying ourselves real salary. -
I really love some of the job posting I saw in my community. It ALWAYS ALWAYS starts with something like this.... We are looking for experience devs that can build platforms LIKE Facebook, Alibaba, PayPal, Amazon...(a lot of big names) .Gosh. Those expectations.

I'm looking for job opportunity in India or outside. i noticed lot of remote job openings. While joining or attend interview to remote job, what are key things should I confirm with employer.

My first programming language was PHP and lately I've started looking for a new language to learn. My first idea was C, but after talking to professors in college they pointed out Java would be a good option. They made fair points regarding our local market and job openings. Now I'm in doubt: C or Java?6

So I had some time off at work for personal problems and my boss was getting a tad annoyed, I’ve come back in today and he’s sent an email to our it support team asking them to backup the projects I’m working on every day with some software, what’s your opinion on this? Should I start looking for a new job now or wait and see🙃1

The story of my last(current) job is fairly boring... Recruiter I worked with in the past called and said there was a group looking for my skill set and that I should have lunch with them. Went to lunch and one hour later we had negotiated my salary, bonuses and benefits. Been here ever since.

So I've been looking for a job in tech but outside the development and coding, but still in the tech niche, something like tech sales if its even a thing, however I've yet to find something like this that isn't either an old post or expired already, or asking for way too much experience, so any recommendations will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,4 -
I'm not looking a job move at the moment but always keep an eye on the market. Sometimes you get companies looking for specific experience within a certain stack. How can any dev learn them all or get experience in all and keep up.
Surely their recruitment requirements have to be lenient in some respects as they won't always fine somebody who's willing to move and has the exact experience they need.1 -
Looking for opinions about clojure from people who work with it, I am not familiar with clojure but saw a job posting saying their code base is heavy on clojure.1

What would you do? Finished a mobile app project for a contract. Normally, I'd be off looking for another app project to work on, but the company I'm at asked me to write documents for an unrelated project. I hate writing docs, but I am billing $80/hr
Not near enough info to do much of any documentation , so waiting on answers. In the meanwhile, my email and phone are blowing up from recruiters looking for mobile app devs.
I can either work with recruiters to find a job I love or spend time muddling through creating documentation with little or no info.
What would you do? Collect a paycheck for shit you hate doing? Or just spend the time looking for something you do like to do? -
A colleague and I joined a couple of friends for dinner and my colleague was explaining how our company reacted to him showing them another offer he got. Just by thinking I am being too slow at looking for another job (even if it's to negotiate better conditions) my back got so tense is hurting...

I want out!
I am an Indian student, graduating in 5 months with bad GPA from not so fancy university. I like to call myself highly motivated individual. I am looking for a job in Silicon Valley.
What skill sets should I prep myself for a job in the United States right after I graduate?

My priority is USA>Netherlands>Ireland>India.
I can provide more details as required. Help me out!16 -

Hi, I'm a junior developer who's looking for his first front end job.
I have just finished my 8 months internship as a front end developer in a startup in Paris.

Hey everyone, I have a quick question that idk where to ask.
Basically I'm looking for the job title for someone that manages servers on the software level, the backend services of an application. The person whose main task is to design the relationships between services so that everything's maintainable and efficient.3 -
What advice/opinion would you give to someone who is looking for a dev job without any experience or background or passion/interest in engineering - just getting into this field for the money and consulting firms backing this person saying they will train and help find him/her a job in California...5

Need some job search advice here please!
A startup is has offered me a job, but is going to be paying me half salary for 3 months, and then they're sure to get funding, so will be paying the difference amount after 3 months. But, it all hangs on this supposed funding that will happen in 3 months. The "CEO" is actually working for another company currently. And his rationale for half salary was, we all need to take risks with startups. Is this worth taking up? The alternative is me continuing job search for a more stable job (where I can stay for few years) and a full salary with benefits and all. I'd tried starting up on my own earlier, and now I'm looking for opportunities fulltime (in other words unemployed).8 -
For my thesis.
Hello, I am currently looking for freelancers to interview for my thesis. I need three more interviews, it's email-based.
I really appreciate everyone who responded in my previous rant. And I would really appreciate anyone who responds in this one too!
You can email me at uzair.hayat@benilde.edu.ph
I only need three more interviews, but I would really appreciate as many as possible!
One criteria that you have to meet: you should be a freelancer that has transitioned from a desk job.
Looking forward to your email!2 -
This job post says theyre looking for a full stack javascript developer! What the fuck do you mean? FULL STACK includes at least 2 jobs. JAVASCRIPT is 1 job. Whats the other one?? Same thing they put for full stack python developer. Gtfo.11

After leaving my internship job to try out pre-med, getting to the end of pre-med, and studying for the MCAT for months, I am now getting married in May and looking for an apartment, so nixing the medical school idea...
Trying to get my old job back, was absolutely *lovely* to see that SCCM (the abusive father that it is, I knew how to work with him) is now getting discontinued? Man.
Might just bumrush these IT certs and see what happens. At least I know LaTeX now. -
I get highly sceptical of a company when they need external garbage tier recruiters to find people who want to develop, HIGHLY TECHNICAL AVIATION SYSTEMS AND FLIGHT SIMULATORS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? THIS SHOULD SELL IT SELF. PEOPLE SHOULD BE FLOCKING. PUN INTEDED EVEN.
I also hate recruiters. No, I don't want to leave my job. And, are you stupid? You are not looking for someone with a BsSc. You are looking for someone with a MsSc, or am I just that fucking amazing that I don't need as much education to be considered? 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠
Aaaaaaaaaaah. Stop. It. I'm not looking for work.1 -
Can anyone recommend some good resources to brush up on Big O notation?
I’ve bought some books etc, but just looking for more information.

Hey peeps just asking for some suggestions. We are currently having difficult times financially. My dad used to have food business but its now completely shut down and he is doing some sales job. My mom is somewhat educated (she completed till class 12th i guess) and knows very little abouts computers and stuff but she is interested in getting some job that's remote and computer based.
What things should i give her to learn that she could land a job in computer field?
Like am not talking about programming or development but other non tech fields people get paid for... Like data entry , emails writings etc. Currently i have given her courses to learn ms excel, ms word and basic English.
(Personally am also looking for a job but i know how you guys hate job postings . Checkout my website if you have something for me)3 -
Just be true to yourself and to them. Know your own terms when looking for a job, and know if their terms fit with you. Ask them a lot of questions. These questions should provide you a glimpse of what their company culture is like. Try to have fun during the entire process. Don't stress out. And believe in yourself!
****these tips are actually somewhat meant for me but we're all in this together in the process of job hunting -
Lol. Of all the dev social media, like Dev.to, Hashnode, stack overflow etc .. I find that the most help I get is RIGHT FUCKING HERE BABY. So I'm at it again, asking for help in the form of a question. I'm still looking to get a frontend job. My question is, is a short and sweet e-commerce website, mostly showcasing the ability to code a design, so not fully functional but has great JavaScript and React features in it, like mobile responsiveness, slide nav, item filter, sale price, add to cart animation, pagination, etc..a good resume project that can get you hired? I'm having a hard time finding which if my projects are good, or embarrassing to recruiters.8

Interviewing is a skill. Technical interviewing is a skill related to but not totally based on coding knowledge. You need to flex this muscle.
Try mock coding interviews with friends. Set up interviews at places you don't necessarily want to work at. Take coding interviews even when you're not looking for a job. -
Hey I just joined this website. Code Drip from youtube suggested this! I am going to be starting my first corporate IT job this July.
But because of this shitty pandemic, my joining is going to be very delayed. Is this a very bad time to start my career? Any suggestions or resources to keep myself busy and be ready for my first job will be highly appreciated.
I am looking forwards to reading some rants here!5 -
I am now looking for a new job. My current work environment is everything wrong with IT and more. And to be honest I learned a lot from that. I am looking for a position where I can participate in defining and healthy working culture in IT. Something that makes me worry about people not tools. To be honest I have no idea what position should I apply for. If you have an idea or a recommendation of what I should be looking for, that would be of great help.2

How to write a great resume and Linkedin when im playing 3 roles at my current job?
Iwear many hats right now on my Job (you can check my LinkedIn, the link is on my devRant profile).
Right now im looking forward change job in 3 months or so, mostly due to non flexible working hours and somewhat toxic environment.
The problem im facing right now, id how to put all the stuff im doing right now in my profile without it sounding crazy or something like that.
I also see companies open positions for very specific roles, so i dont know how write a resume to apply to a job without excluding half of my skills from it to looks "specialized".
Other factor is that i really have fun doing diverse things on my Job, it is boring for me do a single thing for months.
How can i include everything i know in my resume? or what job title can resume all my expertise?
Thanks guys!
PD: If you are in an small startup, and trive working with people that wear many hats, contact me on LinkedIn! i can consider your offer1 -

I'm a complete noob in this tech world so finding a job it's getting hard (for me).
I applyed to be a highschool teacher so they made me some tests and apparently i'm too narcissistic for the job, although they recommended me to try tech related stuff.
Soooo... Did i hurt your feelings, because teaching wasn't my first choice?

The project I’ve been working on for the past one year has been put on maintenance mode so the number of deployments will be significantly limited (around 4 per year). So what does this mean for me? I will be moved to a new team? Or I need to start looking for a new job? Or nothing changes?
I’m backend dev btw— I don’t deploy it. DevOps does it.1 -
Something funny. Has anyone heard of a case or a city, where people looking for a part-time job are in bigger numbers than those who are looking for a full-time job?
The competition is stiff.
Disclaimer, am a student. -
The the frontend for mesos' chronos is soooo incredibly slow. With its rest-api looking for job names and starting jobs manually is feasible, but gosh, somebody committed a crime there. (Maybe one is also not supposed to have about 500 jobs in there but that's another issue.)
