*Me working on the security system of the notes app thingy*
"hmm, should check if a users' ip is valid, let's look for some online services..."
*can't find a good one without rate limits*
😞
*hold on, I wrote one myself 🤣*
I am so fucking retarded sometimes.7 -
Although this is gonna sound like bullshit, this happened to me for real. Since that moment I use even more backup services AND I regularly check EVERYTHING.
Had a backup of my important data (still used mainstream services back then) on:
- Hotmail email attachments
- Google Drive
(Both link to another email account).
- A few data backup services
- DVD
- USB
- External HDD.
I wanted to copy some backup data over again:
1. Walk to my staple of HDD's, tried to grab it, somehow missed and knocked the whole fucking pile over. HDD broken.
2. Well fuck, let's go put some of my clothes in the washing machine for clean clothes at study/monday. After this shit being in the washing machine for just a few minutes, I realized my backup USB stick was in one of my pockets, in the washing machine. FUCK. Couldn't stop it so I waited till the end, tried it and well, it wasn't working at all anymore.
Fuck my fucking life slightly right now.
3. *remembers about the backup disc*. I forgot to keep it in its case, very deep scratches and so on, unreadable. FUCKING FUCK.
4. Right, I still have those online services! *tries to login to all of them (including hotmail/gdrive) but forgot the password. Well, let's login to my backup account then (hadn't used that one in years). Account was suspended for some reason.
Started to get really anxious because every online backup service was linked to that email address.
Contacted customer support. They really couldn't restore it because of some issues they weren't allow to tell me. Sorry but I couldn't retain access.
5. Well this is fucked up. Couldn't get into any of the backup/hotmail/gdrive accounts anymore.
I tried contacting their support but never got any replies.
This was the moment I realized I fucked up big fucking time because damn, this stuff at this level hardly happens to anyone.
FUCK.37 -
My first testing job in the industry. Quite the rollercoaster.
I had found this neat little online service with a community. I signed up an account and participated. I sent in a lot of bug reports. One of the community supervisors sent me a message that most things in FogBugz had my username all over it.
After a year, I got cocky and decided to try SQL injection. In a production environment. What can I say. I was young, not bright, and overly curious. Never malicious, never damaged data or exposed sensitive data or bork services.
I reported it.
Not long after, I got phone calls. I was pretty sure I was getting charged with something.
I was offered a job.
Three months into the job, they asked if I wanted to do Python and work with the automators. I said I don't know what that is but sure.
They hired me a private instructor for a week to learn the basics, then flew me to the other side of the world for two weeks to work directly with the automation team to learn how they do it.
It was a pretty exciting era in my life and my dream job.4 -
Did you read about the new Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act laws of the European Union, that will go in effect in 2022? Pretty neat stuff, more transparency, user rights and a tool against internet monopolies.
"Very big online plattforms" must submit reports on freedom of speech, abuse of human rights, manipulation of public opinion.
EU assigned scientists will gain access to trade secrets like google search or Amazon recommendation algorithm to analyze potential threats.
The EU can fine serial offenders 10 % of their yearly income. And break up companies that stiffle competition.
Internet companies like Facebook will not be permitted to share user data between their products like Instagram and WhatsApp.
There will be a unified ruleset on online advertisement. Each add must have the option to find out why this add is shown to the user.
Unlike the GDRP data protection rule the two acts will be valid at the Union level. So that there won't be any exceptions from single member states.
Let's hope this leads to a better Internet and not things like cookie pop ups 😄

Sorry for being late, stuffs came inbetween!
I have done a few privacy rants/posts before but why not another one. @tahnik did one a few days ago so I thought I'd do a new one myself based on his rant.
So, online privacy. Some people say it's entirely dead, that's bullshit. It's up to an individual, though, how far they want to go as for protecting it.
I personally want to retain as much control over my data as possible (this seems to be a weird thing these days for unknown reasons...). That's why I spend quite some time/effort to take precautions, read myself into how to protect my data more and so on.
'Everyone should have the choice of what services they use' - fully agreed, no doubt about that.
I just find one thing problematic. Some services/companies handle data in a way or have certain business models which takes the control which some people want/have over their data away when you communicate with someone using that service.
Some people (like me) don't want anything to do with google but even when I want to email my best fucking friend, I lose the control over that email data since he uses gmail.
So, when someone chooses to use gmail and I *HAVE* to email them, my choice is gone.
TO BE VERY CLEAR: I'm not blaming that on the users, I'm blaming that on the company/service.
Then for example, google analytics. It's a very good/powerful when you're solely looking at its functions.
I just don't want to be part of their data collection as I don't want to get any data into the google engine.
There's a solution for that: installing an addon in order to opt out.
I'm sorry, WHAT?! --> I <-- have to install an addon in order to opt out of something that is happening on my own motherfucking computer?! What the actual fuck, I don't call that a fucking solution. I'll use Privacy Badger + hosts files to block that instead.
Google vs 'privacy' friendly search engines - I don't trust DDG completely because their backend is closed/not available to the public but I'd rather use them then a search engine which is known to be integrated into PRISM/other surveillance engines by default.
I don't mind the existence of certain services, as long as they don't integrated you with data hungry companies/mass surveillance without you even using their services.
Now lets see how fast the comment section explodes!26 -
*Got a request for installing and configuring an online shop for a client*
Me: Do you have a web space already?
Client: No, I don't want to pay for it. (FYI: They only cost about 20€ a year)
Me: Okay, but free hosters are often slow and unprofessional. I really do not recommend using free hosting services.
Client: Doesn't matter, do it.
Me: *Working on the shop for several weeks, finally goes online*
One week later, client contacts me saying shop is offline. I realize the free hoster he used shut down their services (bankruptcy), resulting in the loss of about 90% of the work that I had done (no proper backups due to complexity)
Client: How can that even happen? You'll redo the shop, right?

I really hate it when online sources aimed at educating people looking to get into programming attack specific languages. I'm ok with them recommending some good starting languages (ex. JavaScript, Python, etc.) but I find it extremely inappropriate and damaging when they list languages they consider "bad." Languages like JavaScript, PHP and Java constantly get called out even though they power a huge chunk of the web and services hundreds of millions of people use every day. IMO it's a huge disservice to tell beginners not to even look at these languages. We should be teaching the language isn't really what's important - it's what you build with it.5

Fucking idiots. How fucking stupid are you? We're in 2016 now, where basically `.motherfuckerslutshitasscunt` has the potential to become a TLD. And you still can't validate a motherfucking *.online email? FUCK YOU. I will NOT be using your SHIT MOTHERFUCKING RECRUITMENT SERVICES. DIE.4

Windows 10 'App Store' Stole My Money.
So I work a 40 hour work week, sometimes more, same as anyone, on my feet, all day.
I get home, buy a little $3.99 app. Won't install. Check it again won't install. I check some guides. Follow all the standard commands, my purchase won't install. Use the tools. won't install.
Naturally I sent off what I'm good at, some hate filled invective
For fucks sake. I'm exhausted, have insomnia and want to wind down. And here microsoft is killing 32bit libraries to dispose of competing services like steam (also fuck gabe in his fat asshole) but I digress.
And they expect us to use their services? Spend our hard earned *fucking money*..and spend half an hour on their dumpster fire fucking 'walled garden' with nothing to fucking show for it?
No refund button. No chat option. Just a fucking feedback hub. Look at it some time. JUST LOOK AT IT. The motherfucking *feedback* hub *frozeup* in the process of my feedback. Microsoft is a sewer of negligent business practices and incompetence.
So I've chosen now to aim two heavy ion cannons at them and warned them too. Two twitter accounts, one with almost 10k followers and another with 15k.
Should have just offered a manual download button microsoft.
My money would have been better spent on alcohol. Cheap alcohol. It's not like it's a lot of money and I don't buy a lot online, but it's the principle. You're fucking *payment* process worked *just fucking fine*.
Anyway can anyone calculate the monetary damage a cumulative quarter million views over the course of a month will do to the reputation of the windows store in dollar amounts?
I'm betting it's going to be a lot fucking more than three fucking ninety nine.
Don't worry microsoft, I'm gonna take it out of your sweet fucking hide.22 -
I just love it when our clients decide to make a clone of live production server..then put it immediately online..and don't tell anyone about this.. and then start bitchin how data gets doubled all of a sudden..
Yeah, no shit sherlock.. you have two prod servers for 'hot swapping' and some services may only be running on one at a time.. You even have a manual on how to switch primary to secondary (turn off services on primary first, then turn them on on secondary and all)..or in case primary actually dies, just turn on services on secondary and you're good to go, right?
So how do ya think cloning the one with running services and putting the clone immediately online will work out?! 🤔
God, I thought it was common sense to not do that..but here I am, bitchin about how people fail to RTFM.. :/ or use brain..fuck..4 -
For some reason, Google really, really, really wants to know peoples' phone numbers.
Of course, they say it is "only to protect us even more". But if the Twitter phone number misuse incident tells us anything, Google could change their mind at any time.
Around 2012, Google started begging people for their phone numbers upon login, but did not lock users out yet: https://groovypost.com/unplugged/... .
At some point, likely in the late 2010s, Google started locking people out of their accounts until they disclose their phone numbers. This is very unethical. Twitter already did it earlier (around 2016). Many countries' governments outlawed burner phones and people need to disclose their identity to acquire a phone number, as often under the pretext of "fighting terrorism". Surely not for mass-surveillance, am I right? ( https://comparitech.com/blog/... )
Since a few years, Google demands a phone verification for every newly created account. Honestly, that is still better than holding peoples' existing accounts hostage until they disclose a phone number, since locking people out of their accounts a while after creation causes them to lose access to their data.
Of course, people should store any data they do not wish to lose locally. Online services are not personal archives.8 -
The single most annoying thing about working with Microsoft is how they, at one point, decided to wipe 99% of their articles and downloads on their site. But instead of updating it in their OWN FUCKING OS, they just leave links to the broken pages in their help system. The second problem then arises when you realise that instead of giving you an error page, it automatically redirects you to the default page.
But on top of wiping their site, not updating windows to reflect those changes, and having a terrible site design, they have also decided that it would be best to keep the pages that once we're, online. This means that they will still show up in search engines, without any content being there.
Add to that the fact that their support team is incompetent to an insane degree, and often doesn't know what they're talking about. This has caused me so much frustration over the last few days.
Dear Microsoft, please get your act together and fix your shitty website.
Greetings,
A pissed of customer who paid money for your shitty services2 -
"Hello, the drive of your XYZ server is getting full, would it be possible to prune some of the unused and/or old docker images and layers there please? Alternatively, we can offer to replace the drives with a higher capacity models for FOO extra per month"
"Hello, the disk use keeps growing and has reached the 95% mark, please prune some of your images to make space for new. If you wanted to choose the alternate option of disk capacity increase, we would have to do that as soon as possible, otherwise you may run out of space before the RAID array rebuilds"
"Hello, your server XYZ has completely ran out of disk space. Any changes that would require data being saved on disk may and probably will fail. Please free some space as soon as possible"
Ugh, I hate clients that just don't cooperate until shit hits the fan...
And no, we could not prune the space ourselves, its not our data to delete whenever we think it necessary.
We merely manage the machine's operation, keeping it online and its services running.2 -
Get a "Covid-19" email from an online service I last used 4 years ago. The email boils down to 2 sentences of "we are working remotely as we have always done, there is no impact".
3 paragraphs of "here are the services we offer you should check out".
Fuck off1 -
Yes, a plus, i.e. `+`, is a fucking valid char for an email address.
Your online service is shit, you don't know your craft, and you should feel bad about yourself!
But you thought email is fucking simple, google for email validation regex and took copy pasted the first fucking find from some random blog that validates anything but an actual fucking valid email addresses, didn't you!?
(Funfact, the plus sign allow to create email aliases in some free mailer services. GMail for instance. That's why I l like using emails like my.actual.mail+I_KNOW_WHY_YOU_ARE_SENDING_SPAM@gmail.com as my registration email. Also, brute-force that login email.)3 -
In Germany we have something called "Rundfunkbeitrag" (aka GEZ-Gebühr a long time ago).
The "Rundfunkbeitrag" is something that you have to pay for even if you don't own a TV, watch TV, listen to a radio station etc and consume ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradios' radio services and online services (as in news sections for example).
That's pure scam.
The "Rundfunkbeitrag" is basically broadcast contribution.
Is there any country that is not forcing you to pay for something you don't own and/or consume?
I, for one, don't watch TV, never consume their services and don't listen to radio. There are better alternatives.
We, as a society, will even pay for the amount of air we breathe in and out in the future. That might sound like bullshit to you, but just take a look around yourself and face the reality for once. We get scammed from all sides, don't we?
How unlikely can that be to happen in the future?
We literally get gang banged with "GDPR", "Imprint", "Rundfunkbeitrag", "Media lies (rather subjective)" and other things in Germany.
---
Again, if there are better alternatives let me know.21 -

Met @condor irl today. He's the same weird guy as I feel at moments. Interests that don't interest people around us in any way..
Drank some beers, evidently called Belgium.
He came all the way to the town I work at.. kudos!
Talked about breadboards taking 230V via cables that aren't meant to take the voltage in any way.. Security implications in networks and online services, like Fb. Faraday's cage & how it works; and some other shit I swear I won't tell anyone about as you should be comfortable discussing it.
Quite interesting, I swear! (:
Now on the bus home, as I had to cut it short to get to some parental business... But I'm looking back on some positive social interaction, which I'll gladly re-do another time.
Condor, it was sure nice to meet ya. I'll come your way next time. That ~10eu for your transport will be equalled some day in the near future.
@FunkDelegate sorry it was badly timed and plaved, you'll join us soon enough! At least you saw decent ass! xD3 -
Meanwhile in Russia one of the most important banks and its online payment services failed for 6 hours because of the broken cable during road works1

Time for another Location based social networking service by Samsung.
Uhssup
It seems to be preinstalled in Galaxy S9 phones.
Seems nice, right? (smirks)
Related link: https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/...
This is the services that Uhssup will provide :

macOS facts:
- Darwin core is open-source (https://github.com/apple/darwin-xnu). Not the case with Windows.
- You can use macOS without using any Apple online service like Apple ID, FaceTime or iCloud. Terminal will still work without restrictions, and any app can be installed manually. It's totally different from Google services on Android, without which most of the apps won't work at all.
- macOS updates are trivially to disable. It's a matter of unchecking "Update this mac automatically" checkbox in software update settings. Not the case with Windows, Windows updates are universally hated among developers for intentionally complex UI and update services being very hard to disable.
- Almost every feature or default behavior you dislike can be trivially disabled with one console command. Features won't re-enable automatically like I heard update service does in Windows. The only feature I dislike that I wasn't able to disable was a notification about unsafely unplugging a USB flash drive.
- Out of the box, you get a sophisticated disk manager that allows all kinds of manipulation on drives, just like what you get in Ubuntu.
- Just like on smartphones, you can trivially restrict or provide access to certain features like camera, microphone, etc. on app to app basis. I don't know how to easily do it in Linux, let alone in Windows.
- Apart from mastodons like GIMP, I find open source apps for macOS to have better UI than their Linux alternatives.
- Objective-See offers useful FOSS apps for macOS, they help with privacy and malware detection: https://objective-see.com/products....
I don't want to start a fight. Please, abstain from commenting on one OS being better / worse than the other. Please, don't comment on Mac computers being better / worse than computers of some other vendor. I'm very confused now because of my Dunning-Krueger thing (read my previous rants), so I just want to present the facts about macOS that I think deserve more exposure.27 -
Alrighty, saturday morning rant time!
I just recieved a mail from one of my not-so-much-loved colleagues.
Now Background first: I work in IT-Support. We provide services for other companies. One of those services is monitoring servers and clients for various things. I recently took over the project (was assigned to do it) and restructured everything, wrote new scripts to test more stuff, successfully tested it internally and rolled it out over the last 2 weeks.
Now one of these scripts hooks into the Windows Update API and looks at the update history. It filters for known Windows Update Agent strings (UpdateOrchestrator, AutomaticUpdates and AutomaticUpdatesWuApp in case you also want to do something like this) and then looks for installation errors over the last 24 hours and wherever there have even been any successful updates over the last one and a half months.
Back to that mail.
My colleague sent me this lovely mail about a ticket i opened about his customers servers beeing all out-of-date on updates.
"This is all wrong, everything's fine. I disabled the checks."
...
It's on bitch.
So i logged on to my work PC via TeamViewer, opened my script, connected to the customer and was ready to debug the shit out of my script, knowing i probably won't even need to.
I looked at the update history via Windows Update itself and behold: 1st April. That's almost 50 days in the past.
So the script works, go figure.
Great, so search for new Updates then.
>None found.
Hm. What could it be? Did my super special colleague forget to care about his very special totally-needs-WSUS-customer WSUS again?
Yup.
Online-Search finds a ton of new Updates.
Screenshot, write pissed mail to colleague, re-enable checks, breakfast.1 -
FUCK Banks
Fuck Banks and fuck online Banking
Fuck you for not supporting real 2FA
Fuck you for having such shitty bloated bullshit Websites and online services
Fuck you for taking forever to transfer money
Fuck you for not having public APIs Fuck you for so many uncountable reasons.
And most of all Fuck you for constantly trying to fuck me. I FUCKING HATE BANKS SO FUCKING MUCH.
I hope so much that there'll be a decentralised uncontrollable anonymous and digital currency in the future. Something like Cryptos (like BTC or ETH) but without all the major Problems they have now.
I wish there was a hell Banks could go to. I want to see them burn and suffer so fucking much not even the worst medieval torture methods are enough to satisfy me.39 -
So, in Germany apprentices at companies need to file a "Berichtsheft".
It's a thing where you have to file, for each day that is, what you did at work or in job college and how long you did it.
Basically every company keeps records of their employees activities in their CRM or other management system and all schools use services for keeping timetables that include lesson duration and activity.
So why the fuck do we apprentices have to write that shit ourselves when we could literally just acces the databases and SELECT THE SHIT FROM FILED_ACTIVITIES, I thought.
So I'm writing scripts to acces our CRM database and a puppeteer script now that scrapes the Untis (online timetable service for schools) timetables to extract everything, group it by date and format it nicely as CSV.
I'm sick of this: Digital system & Digital system = write it yourself bullshit.
Once I'm done I'll make a github repo for the Untis scraper.
Also, I'll be making the tools usable for the other apprentices at my company to spare them the suffering.9 -
I just used booking.com and good fucking god is the whole website a shit infested hell hole. They use scammiest and pushiest techniques to make you book a place asap without giving you space to breathe and read details.
They try to obfuscate what's actually necessary with what they want to take from you. For example just before reserving a room there's a checkbox that's close enough to words "terms and conditions" and "privacy policy" for unsuspecting user to habitually check it to proceed. However, you clicking "reserve" is considered your consent and that checkbox simply adds your email to their spamming list.
There are countless examples of absolute asshole design within every inch of that place and I don't even want to imagine what they do with my data.
Suffice to say this was the first and last time I will use their services and if I were to give any advice, is "don't be the dick responsible for website/app/service similar to booking.com"5 -
FUCK SPAM !
If you are like me and register to many services online and get spammed with spam (duh) and want to know which services is selling your data , you can register with an email like this :
let's say your email is johndoe@gmail.com
and want to register to Service you can put johndoe+service@gmail.com and mails will still reach johndoe@gmail.com but appear as To : johndoe+service@gmail.com so then you can rant about how Service is selling your data.

Ex-colleague asked for help in regards to an old project we were working at my old job
Him:"We're experiencing an internal server error. What do we do?"
Me:"Restart tomcat, dude"
Him:"How?"
Then I explained how by finding tomcat in ps -ef in a Redhat server, because he's a Linux noob and needed a lesson in how services works. Proceeded to explain how to restart tomcat with an online guide available.
Him:"Couldn't find tomcat in any of the servers"
Me:"Are you sure? Send me screenshots"
Him: sent screenshots
Me:"it's there. Look carefully."
Him: finds it and proceeded to restart tomcat.
Him: "Can't restart. Some catalina.sh is stopping it."
Me:"Figure it out. You can do it".
Half a day passed...
Him:"I give up. If I restart the server, will tomcat also restart?"
Me:"Up to you man. It will work but it's bad practice."
He restarted the server vand now everything is honky dory. I feel sorry for him though.2 -
The lack of community support for NGINX is horrible (though it is getting better).
I was an NGINX disciple from the beginning; I switched over from Apache as soon as I found it and used it everywhere. The issue with that is that most services only provided Apache configuration files, forcing me to do my own research and translate them.
Thankfully the NGINX community has done a lot of work already; I was able to find a lot of the configurations I needed online, but I also spent a lot of time learning how to use it. Now, if you give me a few hours, I have the knowledge and resources to make it do whatever you need it to do (within reason, of course).2 -
Dear online services, shops etc.
I already use your service. You have no need to advertise it to me, and I know I opted out of that. Any reminder that I'm missing out and should opt in to marketing, even if it's described as a service/operational message, will itself get reported as spam. Because it explicitly is, by its own confession. -
Senile Web login services from 2009 grind my gears, and tertiary education administration snorts the powder.
Trying to apply online at a local university. They didn't have place for me 3 years ago so I went elsewhere but for my 4th year I have to go to them.
Because of my previous application I still have a student number. Online application says I have to log in to another portal and apply there. Then that portal now requests a Pin that I was never sent, and the "request new pin" function doesn't work because apparently my email is not in the database for my ID. My email was 100000% sure on my application, but some dingus never inserted it into the system.
Why not just start a "new" application you ask? Because the New Applications portal won't allow it for my ID number since it has a student number already. Now I either have to apply manually and pay the fee or wrangle Uni staff to reset my account.
I'm calling you, your slapdash JavaScript 1.2 code and your unhelpful staff out, Cape Peninsula University of Technology. -
Just migrated to Gitlab from Microsoft Team Services
Just thought it is better to have gitlab online and gitlab locally so I can use same configuration on both -
We checked a rather important part in our communication services because it was throwing errors from time to time.

Fuck off slickplan. Your subscription model is not for the little guy. i love your site map builder, but I cant justify $118 a year for my 6-8 annual site maps. i’ll use keynote. if you price stuff properly then you’d have more subscribers. greedy cunts. it tends to be the way with a lot of online services. people will gladly pay, but it’s gotta be of value. you think twice when you start getting pricey.

Ok, so i got this new machine and whilst migrating I want to stay online with certain services. So atm there is x.web.nl and y.web.nl both have ssl and one runs on server x and the other on server y. Now is the question how the heck do i forward that ssl file??? I figured i have to do something with my nginx server block. Because that is terminating the cert. Can someone help me out??1

Building one or more online services that will require little maintenance and that will generate a good income. Got to stop "working" one day and own all of my time 🤑

Question: How do you guys charge your clients? I have had an hourly rate for quite sometime now, but never have I been able to use it since I do not know how to calculate it.
What I usually do is charge a fixed fee and charge on top of a feature is requested,
or I charge a monthly fee for long term contacts and charge on top if any additional feature is requested.
I want to try out hourly charge but since most of my clients are online, I do not know how it will work since the client can believe that I am simply adding additional hours or delaying work causing the hours to increase. (Most online clients are new to my services, unlike clients I meet offline, online can be less trusting)8 -
Is there any note taking, or password vault app which can work offline, cross platform, sync data with online storage services, like Dropbox, Google drive etc., and do encryption?6

How to manage privacy and online presence?
I've seen the privacy advocacy making its rounds around here lately. The concept of hiding as much info as possible is something I'd like to try, but on the other hand I do want to maintain social media and have an outer presence. Additionally, I do want to use some Google services even if I do move my email (mostly developer related things).
I try and be a fairly social person alongside my introverted dev life, so this has been my dilemma the past few days. I could move to those obscure open source social media sites but that defeats the purpose of being connected with the non-tech people in my life.8 -
Okay... I am more than annoyed. 😵😵😵 I've been trying for days to get 2 small dockerized Spring REST-Services to communicate with each other. Without docker the services work fine with each other. I've tried many tutorials, examples, hints online and so on and none works or does something else. There is so much deprecated stuff or huge tutorials where I have to install 1000 other useless things. I kinda feel like this Microservice Stuff is a myth or I'm just stupid. Even my partner has no clue.18

I recently logged into my care provider's online services for the first time, to schedule a doctor's appointment.
The login form requested the usual: username and password - but also a birth date. Which their developers implemented with the default Android datepicker control.

I’m having this issue for the online marketplace I’m working on the side. It’s blockchain tech where you can purchase normal goods and services(no, not like Amazon or Fiverr, eww, this one’s more inclined with promoting organic growth for small businesses and freelancers).
I’m stuck with what solution is in the best interest of the user and the business for the long-term.
The dilemma about anonymity, online freedom and privacy is yes, it protects users from predators and attackers, but then, it’s harder for authorities to hunt down people who uses platforms for malicious intent, and also, digital footprint is helpful during litigation as evidence.
You don’t know who to trust.
-There is nothing to differentiate normal users with spammers, scammers, etc.
-There is no accountability for if they break the rules. They can easily delete and create a new account.
Platforms, communities big or small are plagued with these.
There are a lot of people out there who would rather project their insecurities on other people than to seek therapy.
Also, how platforms uses psychology tricks to make platforms addicting, it’s safe to assume that it’s bound to get toxic. Fixation on these platforms, leads to other needs being neglected or people forget to stay present.
Another thing, automated moderation is not that effective as there are still biases in data and human verification is still required. But then, human moderators get exposed to extreme violence, gore, etc that leads to poor mental health. (see Facebook got sued by moderators)
Also, I’ve had a recent experience where some unstable dev was stalking and harassing me. During that turmoil, I’ve found the many loopholes in every platform out there and how crappy their support is. Like they’ll just say, “make your account more secure”, bitch it’s your platform not providing enough security, your blocking feature means nothing coz anyone can still create accounts and message anyone.
It happened like February-August (it ended coz I quit going online and made private all my accounts). UGH I MISS ALL MY FRIENDS THO. FUCK THAT DUDE. He deserves to be in jail TBH
Lol if this product booms, now u know the back story lololol -
It’s a bit late in the day, but I just realized - amazon workers are striking today, so in solidarity it is suggested not to cross the digital picket line by using amazon online services, including AWS today!5

Setting up active/dr site that is not allowed to subscribe to any “cloud” services to facilitate scaling/auto failover. Ive resorted to use DNS-based failover which updates the ip attached to the host and re-propogate dns records which took 2minutes to come back online... this shoulve been better if we’re allowed to use cloud-based load balancers

You know what really grinds my gears? Products that have no right of linking your data to an online platform.
Case and point: Password Managers. Nearly all of them work only with an account on a given service, have the passwords stored on their servers and so on and so forth. There is 0 transparency and for that matter 0 security. I found my choice, though it infuriates me terribly.
Another thing are budget managers. The switch for YNAB from local to on servers really annoys me. They should have no business in storing my very private data on their server. I don't understand people using it either.1 -
Online Multiplayer Mafia party game built on Ethereum.
Project Type: Existing open source project
Description: I found that most of the blockchain game projects in this space are using traditional web2 technology for hosting gameplay. So, we decided to create a game that utilizes web3 technologies as much as possible for our project and create services like real-time chat, game rooms, player profiles that can be used by other games. These services are very common among modern online multiplayer games and we need a reliable and scalable alternative that uses a web3 tech stack. So, we have decided to create a game that incorporates all these features.

Sorry, I'm very stupid and know nothing about cloud development.
My need: I have a php code I want to put in cloud and launch as a task every N minutes automatically until I decide to stop it.
What is the best solution to do it, do you know some good services that allows me to do it easily, quickly and affordably?
For ex. "Heroku" allows me to do something like that?
Thanks in advance, I would really like to learn this part of software development I never touched in my life.
P.S. It's not a service I want to put online with access for users, it's just a "script" I want to have running on a server until I'm done.5 -
Anybody here involved with SIMS online services for schools (UK) I think it’s done by Capita. Because it is the biggest pile of shite I have seen (as a parent from UX UI perspective). I would gladly visit your establishment with an axe and ensure you would never do anything so bad again.5

Being a webdev has ruined my ability to use any website/online service. Does this happen to anyone else? I invariably end up sending the developer a stack of feature requests and suggestions as I'm sat there thinking "I could do this better!"
Ofc in truth I may be able to do that one part better (usually bits around making the experience as simple and fluid as possible for users), but I wouldn't be able to do other parts half as well. I wonder if I built services like that I would have some annoying git emailing me with all the things they think I've missed... ;-)1 -

There was a rant about an online hoster "comparable to Google", "for free" and "with moral" this morning.
After I asked how it makes money and pays the services one gets for free, the rant got deleted.
I should have kept the name of the hoster in mind, to know which one I will never use, obviously. This is too suspicious.8 -

I was plunged into despair after losing $24,000 worth of Bitcoin on Valentine's Day. What was meant to be a day of love and celebration quickly turned into a nightmare. I had been drawn in by the allure of a lucrative investment scheme, only to realize too late that it was a well-crafted scam. As the reality sank in, I felt anger and regret, wondering how I had been so naive. In the days that followed, I scoured the internet for recovery options. However, my hope dwindled as I encountered numerous recovery services that seemed more interested in profiting from my loss than in actually helping. It was a frustrating and disheartening experience, leaving me feeling even more isolated and hopeless. Just when I was about to give up, a friend recommended Tech Cyber Force Recovery. Skeptical yet desperate, I decided to reach out. From my very first conversation, Tech Cyber Force Recovery stood out. They were transparent about their methods and fees, which immediately reassured me. Their team took the time to explain the recovery process in detail, answering my questions patiently. Unlike other services, they didn’t make empty promises; instead, they provided a realistic outlook on what could be achieved. Being a government-approved recovery service added an extra layer of credibility that I desperately needed. Tech Cyber Force Recovery laid out a clear plan to trace my stolen Bitcoin, ensuring that they would exhaust every avenue to recover my funds. As the process unfolded, I was continually impressed by their dedication. The team worked diligently, employing advanced techniques and leveraging their extensive network to track down my stolen assets. Throughout the journey, they kept me informed with regular updates, making me feel involved and reassured. It was evident they genuinely cared about helping me reclaim what was lost. Weeks later, I received the incredible news that Tech Cyber Force Recovery had successfully recovered my $24,000. The relief was overwhelming. What began as a day of heartbreak transformed into a moment of triumph, thanks to their relentless efforts. I am profoundly grateful for the honest and effective service provided by Tech Cyber Force Recovery. They not only restored my faith in the possibility of recovery but also turned a painful experience into a story of hope. I wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone who has fallen victim to online scams. Their unwavering commitment to their clients truly sets them apart.

Question:
I want to develop a simple reminders service. People will go online and set a reminder and the service will send an email when the reminder is schedule.
I want to use the simplest stack I can. It will be very simple so I don't want anything complex.
So I need a DB backend, a server to host the web interface so people can set up the reminders, and a background process that send out the emails.
People set up reminders, they are stored in the DB and the process read the reminders every X amount of time and send the emails scheduled in that particular time.
I was thinking about using Firebase (only tried it once in a small chat app for practice). A small web interface stored in a server (which? idk. Heroku, AWS?). And a deamon scheduled to run every half an hour (running where? idk. I have a spare laptop that I can use as server for this purpose or Heroku or any other).
What services (free, or at least free at the beginning) would you use in order to save time and money.
PS: I know Python and Java. But I've worked with PHP (and HTML+CSS). I know next to nothing about JS.11 -

Online investment schemes have become increasingly popular, promising high returns with minimal effort. However, it is crucial to be aware of the significant risks associated with these schemes. Many online investment platforms, particularly those in the cryptocurrency space, operate with limited regulation and oversight, which makes them fertile ground for scams and fraudulent activities. Recent personal experiences have underscored these risks, highlighting the importance of vigilance and due diligence when engaging in online investments. My unfortunate journey began with a company called "CryptoTX," which presented itself as a legitimate crypt0currency trading platform. Initially, I was drawn in by the promise of lucrative returns and was reassured by my assigned account manager, Sarah Malone. She portrayed CryptoTX as a reputable firm with a track record of success. During our interactions, I mentioned my previous experience with another online trading platform, "Click’s Dealer." I had encountered significant issues with Click’s Dealer, and Sarah Malone assured me that it was a scam, further reinforcing my trust in CryptoTX. I started with an initial investment of $1,000, which, at first, seemed promising. I saw some trades yielding returns and even experienced what appeared to be substantial profits. Encouraged by these early successes, I decided to invest more, eventually committing a total of $180,000. However, this initial optimism soon turned into a nightmare. The tipping point came when I began to notice inconsistencies in the information provided by Sarah Malone. Each time I was contacted, I was urged to invest more money to cover "bad trades" or to capitalize on supposed new opportunities. Despite my growing concerns, I continued to follow their advice, largely due to the pressure exerted by the account manager and the desire to recover my previous losses. It became clear that CryptoTX promises were unfounded. My investments, which had initially shown some potential for profit, quickly dwindled. I found myself losing all of my hard-earned savings, amounting to a staggering $180,000. This sum represented my life savings, intended to secure my financial future and support me in retirement. The financial loss was devastating, not only due to the amount but also because of the emotional and psychological toll it took on me. In the aftermath of this experience, I realized that the terms and conditions I had agreed to likely included clauses that absolve CryptoTX of responsibility for investment losses. Many online investment schemes use such disclaimers to shield themselves from liability, arguing that investment inherently involves risk and that they cannot guarantee returns. This legal shield makes it challenging to hold them accountable, despite their misleading practices. Determined to recover my lost funds, I explored various avenues for redress. During my search, I discovered GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES, a consultancy and recovery firm that specializes in helping victims of online investment fraud. The firm had received positive reviews for its success in assisting individuals who had been defrauded by unregulated brokers. Deciding to give them a chance, I contacted GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES. Engaging with GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES turned out to be one of the best decisions I made. Their team provided expert guidance and support, working tirelessly to investigate my case and facilitate the recovery of my funds. Through their dedicated efforts, I was able to retrieve a significant portion of my losses, which was a tremendous relief. This experience has underscored the importance of exercising caution when dealing with online investment schemes. Many of these platforms operate with minimal regulation and oversight, making them ripe for exploitation. It is crucial to conduct thorough research before committing funds, be wary of platforms that promise guaranteed returns, and understand the terms and conditions associated with any investment. while the online investment landscape can offer lucrative opportunities, it is fraught with risks and potential pitfalls. Scammers and fraudulent schemes are prevalent, and it is essential to be proactive in protecting oneself from such threats. Educate yourself about common warning signs of fraud, seek professional advice if needed, and remain vigilant to safeguard your financial well-being.

Good day, everyone!
I don't want to terrify anyone, but the rise in internet theft is a growing concern that we cannot ignore. The digital age has brought numerous advantages, but it has also introduced new risks, especially in the realm of online fraud. Recently, a relative of mine fell victim to an investment scam that promised a 100 percent return in just a week. While such promises may sound tempting and almost too good to be true, they are often red flags indicating fraudulent schemes. It’s easy to think that such scams only target those who are naive or greedy, but the reality is that anyone can become a victim of these sophisticated frauds. Scammers use increasingly convincing tactics to lure individuals into their traps, making it crucial for all of us to remain vigilant and informed about potential threats. Fortunately, there is hope even if you've been scammed. The first and most important step is to seek assistance rather than succumbing to fear and despair. Ignoring the situation or feeling embarrassed can prevent you from taking necessary actions that could help you recover your losses. In my relative’s case, after realizing he had been duped, he decided to take action. He completed a thorough investigation and was lucky enough to discover a service called Tech Cyber Force Recovery. Tech Cyber Force Recovery specializes in helping individuals who have been defrauded recover their funds from fraudulent schemes. They have a track record of successfully retrieving money that has been lost to bogus investment companies. It was eye-opening to learn that such services exist and can be effective. The idea that professionals could help recover stolen funds from scammers was something I hadn’t fully appreciated before. The key takeaway here is that there are resources and experts available to assist those affected by online fraud. It’s not just about accepting the loss and moving on; there are actionable steps you can take to potentially recover your funds. Tech Cyber Force Recovery, for example, works by leveraging its expertise and tools to trace and reclaim stolen assets, providing a glimmer of hope to those who have been misled by fraudulent operations. Additionally, it's important to note that filing a complaint with such services does not always require an upfront payment. Many reputable recovery services offer initial consultations or evaluations without demanding payment right away. This allows you to assess the situation and understand your options before committing any resources. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, reaching out for professional help should be your first course of action. In sharing this information, my aim is to empower others with the knowledge that there is support available. Being informed about the existence of Tech Cyber Force recovery and understanding how to approach them can make a significant difference in navigating the aftermath of an online scam. Remember, the best defense against fraud is to be proactive and seek help as soon as possible. It's worth reiterating that awareness and caution are critical. Educate yourself about common scams and warning signs, and always verify the legitimacy of investment opportunities before committing any funds. By staying informed and vigilant, we can better protect ourselves and others from falling victim to these deceptive schemes. while internet theft is a serious issue, it is not an insurmountable one. With the right knowledge and resources, like those provided by Tech Cyber Force Recovery, it’s possible to recover from such losses and prevent future incidents. Share this knowledge with others and encourage them to seek help if needed. Together, we can build a safer online community and safeguard ourselves against the growing threat of internet fraud.

How an online supplier charge their clients with huge amount >40k monthly in an automated way ? ?
Context:
i am building a huge b2b international online service that will require clients to pay between 1000 usd to 400'000 usd per month.
The system is build on top of an e-payment api (stripe) that enable the system to work based on regular fully automated credit card authorization and capture system.
Everything works fine in dev mode. But when we will move to production, the amounts are so huge that they exceed the max limit of any-credit card, even the corporate's ones.
So that makes me wonder, how automated services (aws, gcp etc) charge huge invoices for their clients in an automated way without using credit cards...

The promise of financial gain often comes hand in hand with the risk of falling victim to fraudsters. For many, the allure of quick profits and financial independence can cloud judgment, leading to devastating losses. This was almost the case for me when I nearly lost a substantial portion of my inheritance to an elaborate investment scam. It all began innocently enough, or so I thought. Through a Telegram group, I encountered a self-proclaimed broker who exuded confidence and promised substantial returns on investments, boasting a guaranteed 30% profit on every investment cycle and enticing bonuses. Eager to secure my financial future, I decided to take the plunge and invested a significant sum, approximately $335,000, trusting in the broker's assurances and the allure of financial freedom. Initially, everything seemed promising. The broker communicated regularly, providing updates on my supposed investment gains and reassuring me of the reliability of the platform. However, as I sought to withdraw my profits and a portion of my initial investment, the situation took a disheartening turn. Suddenly, excuses began to surface, accompanied by demands for additional fees purportedly required to process the withdrawals and release my funds. Red flags began to wave furiously in my mind. I realized that I had fallen victim to a meticulously orchestrated scam. Panic and disbelief set in as I grappled with the realization that I had entrusted my hard-earned inheritance to someone whose sole intent was to enrich themselves at my expense. In a frantic search for solutions, I turned to the internet for guidance. Amidst a sea of cautionary tales and tales of woe, I discovered a glimmer of hope – GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES, a reputed fund retrieval firm specializing in recovering lost investments from fraudulent schemes. Skeptical yet desperate, I reached out to them, hoping against hope that they could help salvage what remained of my inheritance. GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES distinguished itself through professionalism and empathy. Unlike the scammers who had callously exploited my trust, they did not demand upfront payments or additional fees. Instead, they offered reassurance and a commitment to exhaustively pursue the recovery of my funds through legal channels. Over the ensuing weeks, GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES embarked on a meticulous process to trace and recover my misappropriated funds. Their team of experts navigated the intricate web of financial transactions, leveraging their expertise and resources to meticulously unravel the complexities of the scam that had ensnared me. Through perseverance and unwavering dedication, GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES succeeded where others had failed. They successfully retrieved my entire investment, restoring a semblance of financial security and providing closure to a distressing chapter of deception and betrayal. My experience serves as a poignant reminder to exercise caution and diligence when navigating the treacherous waters of online investments. While the allure of financial gain may be enticing, it is essential to remain vigilant and skeptical of promises that seem too good to be true. Moreover, for those unfortunate enough to fall victim to fraudulent schemes, reputable recovery services like GRAYWARE TECH SERVICES offer a beacon of hope and a lifeline in times of dire need, my journey from the brink of financial ruin to recovery serves as a testament to the resilience and the importance of seeking legitimate avenues for financial growth. Let my experience be a cautionary tale for others: trust but verify, and when in doubt, seek the guidance of trusted professionals who prioritize your best interests above all else.

I lost more than $240,000 to a phony trading website after falling for a cryptocurrency scam. In a desperate attempt to find a quick fix, I began looking for assistance in getting my money back. That's how I found Ultimate Hacker Jerry Recovery Experts, who had a ton of excellent online reviews. After reaching out to them, I gave them all the information they asked for. Recommending COREASSETINC RECOVERY FIRM "COREASSETINC @ gmail dot com or Telegram: @ COREASSETINC" to people for their recovery services was God led, I suffered in the hands of scammers loosing my crypto assets worth $380,000 to a binary option site online with so much debts on me. I can't thank them enough for their mind blowing recovery service in retrieving back my money from these heartless scammers, the moment I wasn't able to withdraw my funds for the first time of asking, it became clear I have been scammed off my livelihood investing in cryptocurrency. I was searching through the Internet seeking for possible solution to my predicament and I saw comments about COREASSETINC with recommendations to contact them, I wasn't sure at first but in my despair I seriously needed the help of a legitimate hacking firm to assist in my case. I had to trust the reviews and contacted them to inquire about their recovery services and what it takes to hire their services, they laid down their working terms and conditions which I accepted before they commenced with the recovery. In anxiety I waited and hoped for the best possible outcome working them on my case and providing every information they requested to work with, assuming I hadn't read about and reached out to COREASSETINC, I wouldn't be here and happy sharing my amazing experience of getting back my lost investment funds. It's a testament of their worthiness and dedication to combating fraud, I know what it means losing funds to online investment, but worry not because there's a solution with COREASSETINC.

When faced with the distressing reality of falling victim to a financial scam, seeking guidance and assistance from reputable recovery services becomes paramount. fast swift cyber services as help in such dire situations, offering expert support and expertise to individuals grappling with the aftermath of fraudulent schemes. The journey of recovery often begins with a seemingly innocuous interaction, as was the case for many who have sought assistance from fast swift cyber services. A message on Twitter, an initial expression of interest, and the gradual establishment of a relationship pave the way for unsuspecting individuals to be drawn into the intricate web of deception. In my review, the tale unfolds with the promise of quick riches through 30-second trades on a dubious platform. A modest investment of USD 49,000 snowballs into a significant sum, further fueled by persuasion to inject additional funds amounting to £61,000 in ETH.
The allure of exponential growth through completing routine tasks blinds many to the looming danger lurking beneath the surface. However, the facade of prosperity quickly crumbles when attempts to withdraw profits are met with inexplicable obstacles. A withdrawal failure serves as the first ominous sign, followed by a cascade of demands from the supposed support team. The requirement to pay exorbitant trading fees to access one's funds becomes a seemingly insurmountable barrier, with promises of resolution serving only to deepen the despair. Prompt action is taken to reach out to this trusted ally, and the response is nothing short of miraculous. Within days, the team at FAST SWIFT CYBER SERVICES embarks on a mission to trace and recover the lost funds, culminating in a swift resolution that defies all odds.

In addition to seeking professional assistance, proactive steps are taken to protect oneself from future scams. Education becomes a powerful tool in the arsenal against fraud, empowering individuals to recognize and avoid potential pitfalls before they fall victim. By sharing personal experiences and advocating for awareness, individuals can play a pivotal role in preventing others from suffering a similar fate.
FAST SWIFT CYBER SERVICES emerges as a trusted ally in the fight against financial fraud, offering expert guidance and assistance to those in need.
