At first I was like: "wtf just happened? Why is that hand connected like it was a robot?".

Then I realised it's a watch.9 -
I thought i'd see what the avatars look like with different color eyes.
I personally like red. It really brings out the undying hatred I have for my peers.8 -
I like backend development because I love how rewarding it feels to write systems that are consumed by multiple frontends. It always feels like a lot is at stake and small optimization can make a lot of user experiences faster.4

friend: what are those lines on your screen
me: programming
friend: but like don't you program it
me: yeah but I have to write it
friend: but like don't you have to program the lines
That's when I quit trying to explain it5 -
Manager: Make the page look like Apples.
Me: What is it you like about their page?
Manager: I don't know, it just makes me feel good.3 -
*burp* Me..Merry Christmas
I made a thing. It's called Claymore.
It's like lastPass, but with a bomb attached to it.
Its *burp* like, if you're like really paranoid about your passwords, you can just, you can just blow it all up.
Pro-Tip, if you run it on port 1337, it's extra sec-*burp*-ure.
Am I kidding? Maybe. I made this w/ booze, so.10 -
I like my windows phone I got from work. It gives me no reason to even look at it when I'm not working.2

Apple has programmed an avatar maker in iMessage that generates emoji that are supposed to resemble the person. However it does not have any setting for facial structure to represent a person’s sex. I’m pretty sure they did it because “gender is a construct”.
When I was growing up I had some issues with gender dysphoria. I am male genetically. I was mistaken as female my whole childhood because I was “pretty”, my best friends were girls, and I liked cooking, drawing, and dancing. Puberty happened and I started to look like a man. I considered transitioning because I felt female but I decided to let my body do what it wants and do the things I like to do without worrying about if they are gendered or not. I am married and male and I like what I like.
This stupid iMessage avatar. I have tried my hardest to make it look like me. I have long hair and keep my facial hair clean. They don’t have a switch to change some facial physiological traits so I have this Memoji that looks like a woman with a slight hormonal imbalance. It makes me feel conflicted like I felt when I was young. I haven’t thought about it in years and now I feel like I have an uncomfortable secret female avatar that i carry around on my phone and I feel like I’m carrying a secret.
A persons genetics result in differences in facial structures. Biological sex is more than the length of hair and whether a person wears makeup. I hate this “sex is a construct” trend. I’m fine living my life, but then companies push this software onto my phone like propaganda. I want it to look as masculine as I look IRL.19 -
It works!! IT WORKS!!! IT MOTHERF@CKING WORKS!!
My private program FINALLY WORKS, and DOES WHAT ITS SUPPOSED TO....
YAAAAAYYYY!!!4 -
When you see a comment like this in your codebase:
// I don't know what it does, but touching it will break it!4 -
Sometimes when I am on reddit or fb, I will double tap a post to try to like it. It never works :(3

Since I discovered devRant, looks like I stopped using instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
I love this community so much!!
It even has functions facebook and instagram doesn’t have!
Thank you @dfox and all the others! Hope it continues like this!
Thanks devrant!6 -
I just dropped my phone and now it looks like shit.
I dropped my shit and it still looks like shit.5 -
That's it. I am going to learn HTML. Like really, really learn it.
And after that, I am going to learn CSS. Like fully, totally learn it.
Nah .. I am fine.8 -
I designed a (rough) wireframe in Balsamiq and showed it my manager for early feedback.
He was like - I really like it, but can we have some colours in it? It's more of a monochrome right now. Just black & white. FML11 -
Like "Why is Facebook webpage running so slow" (I think cuz of all the tracking stuff, and they are having trouble on my Linux machine). But I gave it a naive duck-duck and found this brilliant tip to "Reinstall JavaScript" to improve that performance. I'm just so speechless rn... And the cherry on the ice-cream is the link :Drant reinstall js wtf-anyway? like what? guys... facebook is evil i dont want to use it i use arch btw java is also an island12
-
Spent all day designing my website only to delete it all because I didn't like it... Day well spent...8
-
I just f*cking hate front-end. I don't care what it looks like as long as it's working how it should.16
-
Why the fuck do teachers take points off for coding style. Like really placing my open house brace on the same line as an if is what looks good TO ME. And breaking from a while loop with an inverted condition is nicer than a huge if TO ME. Fuck it I like the m_ for member variables too. And yes C++ usually names functions like someFunction, but I like how c# does SomeFunction. Like shit, it's personal I don't care that I lose 5points every test I do it just to say fuck you21
-
devRant is the only social media I like and use regularly.
It certainly has it faults, as any network of people will, but overall I think it provides a much needed conversation between like-minded people.3 -
I thought meditation was more like putting myself in “airplane mode”. But in reality it felt more like a DDoS attack!3
-
— I heard you like programming and are quite good at it.
— Don't know about the latter but I do like it.
— Cool. Can you help me set up this Excel spreadsheet?
Actual conversation I had about two months ago...3 -
Funny story: everytime i take the MacBook of a friend, it somehow manages to crash after a certain time. Seems like it doesn't like me.3
-
I know posts like this one don`t belong here but I`m so super proud of it...
I`ve finally (after like 2 days) finished setting up my macbook-air-arch-linux-kde-plasma and this is what it looks like. If any of you is interested I can share some details about making certain things compatible with apple hardware.
Peace!21 -
I like this one the most, it was a gift from a girl I had a unrequited crush with.
It was like: "hey I make stickers, you can have this one, but it's a little girly, do you mind?" and I was "(😍) of course I don't mind"2 -
I have really found something that I really like, and that is email servers.
I cant explain it but it is so satisfying14 -
I don't really drink alcohol, but every time I look at my (old) code, it looks like I was drunk when writing it.
-
I have changed
I cannot study anymore
I don't like doing it
There's no fun in it
I cannot run after marks like everyone do
I cannot mindlessly memorise things without understanding
Anyways bye7 -
Things u truly HATE:
I'll start with mine
- JavaScript
- PHP
- XCode (I like Swift. It looks very much like Kotlin)
- PHP31 -
I don't know if it is that I just hate xcode or if I'm just a noob at working with it, but it feels like this7

I come from a front facing retail background. And I start my first developer job on Monday. It is also fully remote. They said I can take mental breaks whenever And unlimited pto as long as I use it wisely and don’t abuse the hell out of it. It’s a small company of like 75 people. They don’t want us working past business hours unless it’s urgent and something breaks.
Im like “uh what? You’re not going to yell at me for taking a 5 minute break after a homeless meth head screams at me and waives a wooden sword at me trying to hit me?”
It just feel like this is a grown up job. Like a professional job. I feel like I have work ptsd from being mistreated in the work place for 8 years. It doesn’t feel real. Does anyone else feel like this?9 -
this week started like shit, but today it seems like everything fell into place. the interns are working, the bs code i had to change works, i did more than i expected, plus i just cut my hair and it is cute as heck1
-
Sometimes it feels like I'm not as passionate towards coding as I was before. Seeing bright-eyed juniors with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge makes me wish I could feel the same again. I mean I still like it and all, but it's just not the same.8
-
It looks like I FINALLY stopped binge spending.
Two years ago I was making like $500 a month and couldn’t manage it properly so sometimes I couldn’t even afford to eat.
Now I open my banking app and it puts smile on my face.3 -
Currently -28C. People from us be like: omg guys, it was like 40F today i thought i was gonna freeze my fingers off xD5
-
I like dark themes but I really don't like it when the black of the desktop theme is clashing with a different shade of black in the program2
-
'yes' in linux shell has become my favourite command when i discovered it. it has a careless touch to it, like "yeah whatever just do the thing".
also, i like glutMainLoop. a saw doll inside my head says "let the game begin!" each time i type this function.1 -
Pausing music because I have to concentrate on a test case like crazy.
3 hours later...
Wait? Why don't I listen to music?
Ah I muted it like 3 hours ago :-/1 -
I remember when I was just a child, 6 or 7 I think, my uncle bought a computer and it was a magical thing for me.
When I became a little familiar with it, I told my dad: "I really like to make programs for computer".
And I still like programming.1 -
I like devRant because it's like 9gag, but with more relatable stuff, great community and I think that I learn a thing or two by being here. I love it :)
-
About week ago I finally upgraded to ios 12 and I really like screen time reporting. It forces me to spend less time using phone.
It lacks features like listening to music or books time, probably because it only measure screen time. Besides that it’s cool.13 -
Seniors: I wrote it like that because I had deadlines, you wrote it like that because you're a moron.3
-
I remember when I first started programming and used to be scared of classes. I was thinking about it after I wrote several today like it was nothing.3
-
I like obj c more than I like Swift. I don't know why and even tho it is the same API I find obj c more intuitive and useful since it is a strict superset of C and C is very useful.
Not to say I don't like Swift. I like it. I just have something against mobile OS APIs really6 -
I think javascript is a great language, but it has some really ugly parts.
For some reason, it really annoys me that JS developers are ok with things like
if (typeof something === "undefined")
I mean, comparing strings like that!3 -
Twenty years.
For twenty years I've used vim almost exclusively, and only now have I learned about buffers and registers. It feels like wasted years, but also it feels like a gift.6 -
Holy moved notifications, Batman! I like it, but boy was I confused when my hamburger didn't have lettuce on it.2
-
i like to write schrödinger's code.
as in, if i write code and never run it, it is both functional and nonfunctional.3 -
I hate it when recruiters write something like "I now that you don’t like recruiters, but maybe you like this offer."
WHEN YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE YOU THEN JUST STOP TALKING TO ME!2 -
I just want to say,
wow the Cloudflare API is awesome.
In less then an hour (from a blank file - to automation and tested) I was able to setup a DDNS task that basically just pulls my public ip (see https://devrant.com/rants/2050450/... for details) comparing it to the current DNS records for and update them if anything has changed in the past 30 minutes.
So kudos to these guys letting me in next to no time having a simple yet elegant way of dealing with my missing static ip.
Why can’t all APis be this simple?3 -
Java must be like a food that requires an acquired taste because the more that I code in it, the more I enjoy it.2
-
So I installed Nougat yesterday on my OPO as some apps n Google seem to not like CM 13...
It runs so fast and smooth... Not sure why but kinda feels like I got a new phone 😄😄
Wonder what it'll be like if I ever get to upgrade to Oreo... 🤔🤔🤔🤔
And it seems it likes attracting cats14 -
Just switched to Kotlin.. For the first like 10 minutes I was like "What is this shit?!" and then I found Java to Kotlin converter and docs. Yay! Looks like it´s not gonna be that hard to do some apps in it.. Hopefully4
-
Uhhh I'm on like the 12th or 13th week of not touching any code.
I just don't feel like it, and now classwork is piling up, so I just don't do it. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️6 -
"I don't like it. Fix it."
No more explanation available. Plenty of constructive criticism to work on there then... -
I'm not sure why but I don't seem to like latex. Maybe I could get into it but it just feels weird.10
-
So... Today I started using my first Python web framework, web2py. At a first glance I liked it, the templating system, the view/controller thing ecc. But there is one thing in frameworks that I really don't like: they make me feel dumb.
I mean, in just one line of code I can generate an entire form, but if I wanna customize it a little bit... I can't. Or better, it is very hard, also if there is a bug, I have to look for a problem in an entire system that I DID NOT wrote.
I don't like the idea that the frameworksl handles everything for you, like it is teasing me, I don't even know how it works, it just works, and man, I don't like it. There's some kind of hacker in me, I dont like a system that just works, I want to know how it works. But the sad thing is that I will have to learn web frameworks if I want to work in the IT, right? Please If you can help me or share your experience with web frameworks do so.3 -
Every time I use Edge for testing, I start to like it a little bit more. It seems a smooth browser8
-
Am I weird for not liking Whiskey?
It just kinda tastes... bad. Everybody is taking about notes of vanilla, undertones of strawberry, BITCH where. It tastes like weird with alcohol. And the alcohol part isn't really the problem. I'd much rather drink straight up vodka. Yes it tastes like drain cleaner but at least it doesn't have this weird ass taste to it. I actually quite like vodka. I just don't get whiskey17 -
Whenever I code in javascript I feel like I need a shower afterwards. Told my wife it's like going to amsterdam's red light district with all the different frameworks and libraries it has.
I give it to the frontend guys. I couldn't do it ever day.6 -
Just picked this up for my goals this year. If I don't like it, I can always sell it off and I don't like having to switch between screens on my laptop for tutorials. Has anyone used How to Learn Python the Hard Way? Did you like it? Hate it?5
-
Seems like Bitbucket's pushes go through like this...
Took me a while to figure out what it was.
Initially I thought Google had acquired BitBucket's, then it hit me...4 -
youtube's autoplay algorithm has made me discover some interesting gems on the internet.
but fucking damn it if it doesn't like to replay the same 15 songs you like. every fucking time.
like you know I like this band. SHOW ME OTHER SONGS OF THIS BAND GOD FUCKING DAMMIT. I KNOW I LIKE THESE 5 SONGS ALREADY.4 -
I noticed I adopted a method when people just can't answer something simple like "well how long is it going to last?" and then getting an answer like "I don't know", which to I reply "Well, what's the average it lasts?" and they suddenly remember it again, fucking knobs2
-
Welp, they invaded my workspace again...
This time the GitHub Maid title went to my Twitter :/
(tbh I'm getting used to it already lol) -
I like these rants beginning with "fuck!!!"
It makes me feel unbelievable good!
It literrallycleans up my brain!!!!!!
Fuck!1 -
My girlfriend comes in and sees me on devrant.
GF: "What is that app? I see you using it all the time. Is it like an endless blog with updates?"
Me: "It's kinda like facebook. But for developers. And you don't have any friends".
GF: "That seems like a sad app"
Credit: i am programmer, i have no life (fb page )7 -
Am I the only one that doesn't like Java? I mean I don't hate it or say it's bad. It's pretty clear that it has been probably the most influential language after C. I just don't like how typed and verbose it is, also I feel old just using it or something based on it (like Jenkins)13
-
I think VS code is the only product from Microsoft which is not broken like I'm writing in it and it feels good. Extensions are great, integration with git is also really good and debuger isn't complete bullshit. I had Sublime before but I switched it to VS code just to try it and I'm keeping it.
I know it isn't lightweight like other editors but fuck it... VS code is great
What are you using to code?3 -
!Rant
Looking at various Devs & non-devs like myself, ranting, posting meme's [my bad];
I realised why we keep coming back. Nope not because of the notifications, but because devRant feels like home dare I say it, it feels like family.
Thank you @dfox @trogus & the other creators who aren't that famous [my bad I don't remember your names].
Thank you.5 -
Famous developer sentences #1:
"I leave it like that for now and refactor it later"
It will definitely never going to happen! ;)3 -
Since I bought my laptop the screen was scaled to 125% (1080p display) so that it looks like a ~768p display.
I like it, it looks good, but now I'm trying it at 100% scaling (15" screen).
Yes, everything looks so small now, and my eyes cried for the first 10 minutes, but I'm starting to like it.
Do you have any similar experience? What do you prefer, 100%, 125% or something else? Why?16 -
Bad dev habit…
I am still learning like super fresh —
Second week of class.
But I am also looking at things and getting overwhelmed because I’m like idk wth that is.
But when I end up learning it —
I’m like ohhhh!!
I just overthink everything !!!8 -
I have this ux intern next to me and like every programmer i’m cursing on my code daily and she made a remark today like: it never works for you does it?
-_-‘ SHUTUP!4 -
Does anyone really like JavaScript as a language?
I mean i like working with it because you can build a lot of creative and cool stuff with it, but i find the language itself to be hacky, wierd and too complex.17 -
got this cool protein powder thing and it tastes like chocolate when I mixed it with some milk yesterday
figured it's like hot chocolate but makes you feel awesome!
put powder in a cup and filled it with hot water today
this was a mistake.
turns out protein clumps under heat. it tasted so gross. I threw it out.
I thought I was so smart12 -
Looks like I got dislike-banned as well... eventhough I only used it where appropriate.
I understand that our almighty gods dfox and trogus implemented this to fight bots and mischievous downvote cunts, but why not inform the user affected by it?
I fucking hate these silent bans, just like Twatter and YouTwat do it... you feel like you posted something but in reality it disappears and you're not even aware of it.
Man, nowadays a lot of people behave like bots thus I can't blame The Algorithm™...3 -
Bitbucket full of dicks!!!
Dude just pushed merge conflict comments!!! At first he was like I did not do it, so I was like git blame bitch! Now he is like it wasn't my fault so what I used force push!
Well that was it I will leave this unholy company!1 -
Overheard PHP developer say: "I don't like Node.js, it should be more like PHP where everything is async."3
-
Learning AngularDart, my thoughts:
1. Fucking hell I feel like a noob + I like it
2. I still prefer Vue + Typescript tho2 -
I get it. Hooks prevent code repetition. But personally I hate them. I don’t know why. I just don’t like writing them. Maybe it’s because I like writing “this”. Weird, right?3
-
Found another type of music yesterday.
Lo-fi. It feels like it's a mixture of EDM (a little bit), Hiphop, Synthwave, Jazz and Trap.
I like it.4 -
Played with Fedora on dual-boot for a week, didn't like it. Uninspiring and I had too many issues to fix. So today, I switched to Manjaro. LOVE IT!!! Holy crap, it's like it was made for me.2
-
When I just learned about PostgreSQL, I was pronouncing it like "postérgé", like protégé
why am I so cringe13 -
I hate it when people use like 7 "if" statements instead of like.. 2? And when they do not nest "if"s.
For ex. :
if(condition1 && condition2){
}
if(condition1 && condition3){
}
.....
" But I am writing it out longer to understand better! "
Yet it eventually stays that way with like 50 lines of "if"s..1 -
Am I the only one who doesn't like NoSQL? I really like relational databases.
If I cannot see the light then convince me to like NoSQL. But I think I will be forced to learn it because some companies use NoSQL. Also tech stacks like MERN, MEAN, etc.38 -
"please like our new post on LinkedIn"
AGH fuck off asking every employee to like your shitty "oh we hired some one new" posts
I don't fucking care that it then seems like an active company. I like shit only if I actually like it... Not some boring ass shit post
Also stop trying to micro manage your employees... Like actually wtf...1 -
Why does it feel like nobody uses D?
I love it. It combines the best bits of C++, Java, Ruby and even some Python. It still is C ABI and C++ ABI (ish) compatible. It can do everything you need it to. It's not limited like Java. It feels cleaner than C. I LOVE IT. But I don't understand why there's not much going on about it. Is it because it's not 100% stable yet? I don't know. AAAARGH7 -
Aye, I almost fight with everybody at work(they always think it is funny). I'm not good at listening to others when it comes to dev convo (like related to coding or some logic stuff).
So it is like someone is explaining to me that this should be like this and in between, I ask 100questions like "why like this? why not like this?","but what if I just skip it?" etc
and they always go like, "Someone is going to kill you so badly".
That's it. -
So what exactly is it like working as a developer?
I'm still in the learning phase but I can't seem to picture what exactly it is you'll be doing daily if you get hired.
Is it like constant coding? But like, the site is already made and is huge.
Or is it like making new stuff? But then like, there's already a big company site.
It's what I wanna do but I honestly can't imagine how it will work different from doing it for yourself7 -
ES2015 classes in JS
It is just syntactic sugar and i always feel like i need to transpile it in my head to what it actually is just not to loose perspective and make some hard to debug error.
It feels like language is trying to cheat me into forgetting how it works.2 -
People might like it. People might love it. People might wanna kiss it. People might wanna share bed with it.
But I just don't feel it. -
Made a game, it was like tetris but you had to connect at least 3 blocks of the same colour.
I worked on it for like a month, about 50h overall, and it was downloaded by 10-11 people all over the world and then removed after like an year or so for no real reason.
I then stopped making games.
I was too depressed by the whole thing3 -
Thank you very much for the stickers. I really love 'em.
I even removed some jet brains stickers for them.
I like how it now looks like my git cat is ranting! -
I don't like laptops, it just doesn't feel the same, too small, keyboard is meh I dunno... I like when the screen is in eye level but keyboard is lower.
Is it just me?
PC with 2/3 displays feels more natural to me.2 -
Someone on WhatsApp asked me did I like the new update or not ?
Well here is what I replied,
WHAT THE FUCK ?! NOOooo ! already there is Snapchat whose USP is this feature, Snapchat is Snapchat, then they introduced this feature on Instagram that's ok...but WhatsApp should be WhatsApp.
ALL I WANTED IS A SIMPLE PLAIN MESSAGING APP, THAT'S IT !
Now it's wasting my time more, earlier I just used to see Instagram & Snapchat stories in my free time BUT now !? I will see these fucking stories again here on WhatsApp too... BECAUSE I can't help it, it's in our human mind psychology too, we are curious beings, we are somehow bound to open that Status Tab when we will see a green dot ! If it's not true SEE THE NEWS ! NASA just found a whole new Solar System just ~40 light years away ! YES we are curious, we explore, we invent things.
I hope they will roll it back, but NO the ugly truth my friend is people will rant about and forget, and we will end up using it too, hate this seriously ! for instance the new iPhones have no 3.5mm audio jack, WTF ?! well say goodbye to my favourite ear buds ! and buy these FUCKING NEW Monstrously over priced bound-to-buy pair of earbuds if you need high quality audio out.
AND are we bound to be slaves and continue using these features because everyone else is doing so ? NO ! I will use whatever I like the most, I will go back to the roots, may be use those old school IMs and may be ask others to join it.6 -
I really want to like Fedora, but it feels like they're trying too hard while also not trying hard enough...1
-
People talk about hacking like, "I don't do it cause its illegal", like they could if it wasn't/ )))2
-
I don't like it when guys use emojis when chatting with me. I find it weird.
But when girls do it, I like it. It's hot.🔥9 -
So I'm pretty sure that when I went all in to Apple's Siri shitfest and turned on "Hey, Siri" that I had to accept some kind of privacy notice or some shit. Essentially, being an iPhone user and turning on that service, I've agreed to allow them to listen to me.
But what about the guy who sits next to me? Are his rights to privacy being infringed because my phone can also hear him? If so, who is the one infringing? Me or Apple?
Apple is just an example, but imagine if someone has an Echo in an office or a Google Home. Or what if you're unknowingly standing next to someone with a Google or Apple device that's always listening?
I know my old Android phone had picked up people at the grocery store before. I never turned on "Ok Google" but I used the speech to text of the keyboard a few times. When people showed how you could go see what Google had "heard", I was surprised to find how many OTHER people it picked up.
Anyway, just some thinking. -
So i ranted about how bad the snapchat app was in terms of design and performance a few days ago here and at a couple of other places and the general conscience was that I should use it for a few days and i would like it.
Well, here's what i have to say. IT STILL SUCKS!
I tried to use it every day to keep up with what others are doing and sometimes try to post but i really don't like his bad the app is. It doesn't make me want to use it. Its a battery hog. It fucking drinks through my battery like nobody's business. The v10 update made it a bit better but it still sucks.
I still don't like the UX design but I have come to hate it less. It still sucks though.
I still don't like that there isn't a proper way to discover people. The "discover" tab is just paid advertisement.5 -
wow, to think about it , I have not been really 'excited' about stuff for last few years...
Now its like yeah, this is all a rat race...gotta learn this , learn that ,learn everything...but not really excited about it..Maybe feel like a thug-life boss if I get paid or recognised for my work...
However this is a race I am happy to run in,I like coding, like nerdy/smart tech jokes , like learning new stuff, and like my programming life.
A day without opening my laptop is really a day I feel sad but not the other way round. -
i watched "1 week in vr" this week. I reommend it.
https://youtu.be/BGRY14znFxY
I like that there's no hard statement like "vr good/bad". It's more like an introspective emotional experience. -
I speak c# like I speak Spanish. It works and I get by, but it ain't pretty.
(currently living in Mexico)6 -
Junior asks me to help him with his Microprocessors project. I was like cool mail it to me I'll check it out. He sends me a .s assembly file and tells me this is machine generated code, can you make it look like it's written by a human. I was like wtf dude -_-.
-
I have a colleague who keeps hitting ctrl+S when he's not writing any code. I hit it like twice or thrice myself, but he just keeps at it. Drives me crazy in a fun way. I tried asking him about it, but he just shrugs like it's nothing.10
-
How dangerous am I?
I code it live.
I code while people are working on our website and make all the changes live. And if I notice an abrupt stop in responses to our logs I git stash my changes.5 -
I kind of don’t like OOP. There I said it.
Don’t get me wrong there are times I like using it. I don’t mind some of the features but I can rarely find times I want to use them.
It can be useful depending on the project but I mostly don’t use it and when I’m using Python I always feel like I have to? I know Python offers multiple types paradigms of programming to use but everyone’s making a big deal about OOP and I can rarely ever find uses for it. What I said for Python also goes for C++ I feel like I’m forced to do it. And I especially hate it in C++ fuck that.
I’d just like to use Python, and C++ without using it or if I do not have to use all the fancy features. And kinda wish Java and C# didn’t force OOP on you but I just don’t use all the fancy features in those languages (I don’t even use java but I’m mostly talking about C# for that one).
It’s not that I don’t know how to use it it’s that I can never find a use for any of the features or just don’t want to actually do it. Personally I only really see it shining in Game development, GUI development, and MAYBE network programming??
By all means I’m not trying to flame on OOP, I just wanted to throw my OOPinion (HA) on the matter. in fact you can tell me why you like it or dislike it. I’d like to discuss the topic with anyone.9 -
I tried mate!
I'm not sure if I like it that much!
@darksideofyay got me into mate tea and I just had to try it for some unknown reason.
I didn't get the pot and bombilla because that seemed unnecessarily expensive for a tea I had not tried.
I got the tea leaves, brewed them like green tea and it didn't work at all. The flavour was lacking and it was a letdown.
But I knew I was drinking it wrong. I needed bombilla. But hold on, @darksideofyay was brewing her toasted mate like tea. So I toasted a handful of leaves and brewed it.
And yay! I like that thicc tobacco aroma. The taste profile is better than green tea but nowhere near the black teas. All in all I'm convinced I need to try it with bombilla.
Fun times.30 -

I like to develop a Social Network for my final year project. You have any suggestions ? It will really help me to develop.
And I like to make it as an Open source project.7 -
I hate it when my language stop supporting '++' and '--' to make it easier to write. Like 'i++' is so harder to write than 'i +=1'
-
Fucking sick. Hate this shit. But I slept a bunch today so I'm better than I was before.
Also for the past few days I've been playing Factorio cause my brother got me into it. I actually really like it. I like that it's more involved than games like Civilization. (Plus it's on Linux with pretty damn good support ya know)1 -
Ok I can imagine that being premium uses more ram cuz the offline content won't be handled magically.
But still... I don't like how it looks like 🤣1 -
There we go again...
I can't remember how many times I saw something like this. It seems like ignorance already become a new standard in IT recruit world😎
Should I give a thumbs up just for daring to ask?! -
int main() {
char age = 0x14;
char tmp = 1;
while ( age & tmp ) {
age &= ~tmp;
tmp <<= 1;
}
return age |= tmp;

Really crossing my fingers at the idea of an Iphone SE2 :( i really want that to happen.
I don't really like retarded big phones and there aren't that many options in the Android area that I like.
And no, I ain't a fucking fan boy. It can be a windows phone and if i dig it i'll buy it.5 -
I started learning programming in college. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do but it sounded like I would enjoy it. And I was right!
-
I feel like half the time I spend doing Python is fixing forgotten colons.
Seriously, it seems like a massive incoherence in the language to me, it drives me crazy!
I want to like you Python, but you make it difficult :(1 -
Emacs.
I dunno why but I feel at home while using Emacs. It is like, it provides everything I need.1 -
It was making me anxious that I was the only one doing a PhD among my close friends. I actually was feeling like I'm not good enough for it, because those around me didn't feel like they're good enough for it. (ridiculous, I know. But it is what it is)
And then, one of my bestfriends went for her PhD. Her situation is complicated, so she actually didn't have much of a choice. But now I am motivated and feel like I might actually be able to do it. 🙂 Mainly because now I can at least ask someone close when I have stupid questions. 😁
It is starting to feel like less of an strange idea, and more like proper work. 😁1 -
Still waiting for stickers and the stressball. I don't think I will ever get it. Been waiting for it like an eternity. 😢2
-
I figured out how to skip 2 months of development so we could launch Long ahead of schedule.
Question is should I tell them or do it? I don't feel like it really as I've been treated like shit and am looking for a New job.
It will take the stress off collegues, perhaps as a goodbye gift when I leave I'll put it on a thumb drive and give it if I feel bad.2 -
!rant
I'd like to take a moment to appreciate how much I've needed something like devRant.
I didn't even know I needed it, but here I am, scrolling on here more than I ever scrolled any other social media.
We're a great community guys, let's keep it this way (:1 -
Why write tests for frontend when I can clearly see it works......I mean, c'mon, the like button is incrementing....this button doesn't like been tested (T-T)10
-
I'd like to learn go while building a web backend. but I'm not how should I start it. I mean, should I use any framework?
I'd like to use MongoDB, so a mongoose like ORM/library would be awesome8 -
What's your favorite monospace font for use in a terminal emulator? I enjoy Fira Mono, myself, but if you're using something you like, I would love to know what it is and why you like it.6
-
Git - Because it has saved my ass more often than I would like to admit and thanks to reflog almost any fuck up is salvageable.
I also like it because it makes a handy multi-game mod manager on a pinch. -
Is it OK to put HTML code into PHP? I just did it and I feel like I'm doing a terrible abomination9

I feel like I know typescript a lot better than JavaScript... Is that strange? 😂
I mean after studying languages like C#, I feel like JavaScript is so random, I feel like it has no structure and that I don't know how to code in JavaScript. However when I start using typescript I just feel like I can understand what I am doing on another level. I would like to learn JS more in depth, anyone that has any tips?1 -
I started to like Typescript. It was like c# on the client. Then the amount of lines and functions grew, so it was time for modules. That's pretty much when it went like this for me:
https://hackernoon.com/how-it-feels...
I know it's a year later, but I don't think things have gotten much better since. That was pretty much exactly my experience this year.1 -
instagrams "based on likes" is total bullshit, I don't like shit those suggestions like but if you scroll through your contacts you'll find those suggestions. Why not just say it like it is: "from your contacts or from your friends contacts"3
-
On one hand, it would be nice to have someone else help me out. On the other hand, I like having total control and knowledge of the source and I don't like people messing with it.
-
I like docker. I think the technology is cool and I have a few ideas on how I can use it. But I sometimes think I'm too stupid to use it.
I'm currently trying to convert parts of my dev environment to use containers. But following tutorials on it confuses me and I get lost with it really quickly and get discouraged for a few days until I give it another try and fail again
Like fuck I already know I'm mediocre but this makes me feel like i should go into a manual labor field instead of software development6 -
Why I love to code?
1. The only thing I feel like I have control over (thanks to control loops XD).
2. Feeling like god when my code works.
3. I just love it, no reason needed, just pure love for it.1 -
I know devrant is not the place to ask this but I didn't know what else to do....I very often have doubts about weather I like programming or not even when I started learning programming 2 years ago...Does this imply that I don't really like it? Because I believe that if you really like something than you don't have doubts about it but am not sure if I am correct or not.8

Budget cuts are being made and my boss doesn't like me so goodbye I guess to my 90k salary. It might not sound like a lot to y'all but it is to me.3
-
Why do I feel like shit so much? When will it stop? I was hoping vacation would make me feel better, but it didn't, and now it's almost over and I will have to go back soon.
I feel like I'm trying to grasp empty air.
:'(4 -
I always did amusing those discussions about development IDE . People seem to worship software like if it is a god or like if it really matters which one you use.1
-
I really want an electric skateboard ....
I feel like it would complete my programming persona....
Anyone got anything like that ? -
Why this happen the div's margin inside a div is overflow i read about it and i guess it margin collapse something like that ...How do i fix it??3
-
can anyone recommend a nice c++ ide on linux?
I've tried eclipse, but it's a bit bulky and I don't like it's makefile set up.
I do like geany, but I would like autocomplete on it :P8 -
Why is perl soo notorious? and why do people hate it. Like I'm a networking guy and sys admin and I like to write scripts and it's really handy. Though it annoys sometimes but it still helps.5
-
So I ran sudo apt-get upgrade while watching a tutorial, not knowing what it really does. By the time I realized, it was too late, and I couldn’t stop it fearing it will break my distro. I waited like 3 hours for it to download via my androids hotspot. And after finishing I ran like bitch to catch 9:30 train and for another meeting.12
-
I got back from my small 3 day vacation Sunday and I also decided to just take a break and relax before I hop back into my lil project I’m working on but it makes me feel like shit for taking so long to get back to it. Like I know I need breaks but I feel like I’m not good if I take breaks like this Idk don’t get me wrong I fuckin love programming more than anything but i just don’t want to force myself to work on something even if I do love it.

I got a Samsung A71 from job. What changes would you do to make it less "Samsungy"? Like, I like my OnePlus, but the Samsung is arguably better, so it's be nice if I didn't disgust it.5
-
Ordered something techy from the US and A, because it looked like what I wanted, smelled like what I wanted, and I thought it'll taste like what I wanted.
It arrived today and ooooohhh boy was I wrong.
It's kind of like if you won a car.
But you have no drivers license.
And it is so futuristic, it runs on unicorn piss.
Good luck getting that anywhere.
Another tech-brick on the wall.
Well i could write some tech publications to give them a chance to cover it in depth first, since everyone else will be gaged by NDAS until like q2 2019.
Naaaa, I probably wouldn't even respond to myself if I wrote.
"Nice try kiddo, did hell freeze over?"rant someone could get sued someone could loose a job someone fucked up tech brick brick someone fucked up big time haha to new to be supported i didn't sign any nda did hell freeze over? fuck2 -
How do u stay civil when your code doesn't work and it's been hours? I feel like punching something but I swear I'm not really violent. I just feel like it.3
-
An I the only one who gets scared when a piece of code break. Like I feel like a bad little kid like omg I broke it please don't look I'm sorry please I didn't mean I'm so sorry

Yesterday I went to a Technology Fair here in Setúbal, Portugal and I talked to a guy that was representing Microsoft. He talked to me like I was superior just because I told him I was taking a course of IT Engineering, like... why would he talk to me like that???3
-
When my code works without any hich I feel like I can conquer the world.. But when it doesn't work after trying for so long, I feel like What am I doing with my life.
-
I just realized that my collegues don't like my new mechanical keyboard, while I like it very much. I told them that it's not that noisy, it's only a different sound. I demonstrated that typing on a not mechanical keyboard with brute force! Now they like it.
-
i feel like a fucking failure, I am so tired of programming, i dont even like it anymore, and all my coworkers are programmer gods. I feel like a burden. Part of it might be imposter syndrome but for the most part its true.10

I want to run any Linux distro but I think my laptop don't want to leave windows..... When I boot in Linux mint, it works like a charm for about 5mins but then It suddenly slows down....and..down...like exponentially decreasing until it freezes completely
Although I don't run anything, it's is in idle state

After python should i learn java, like, is it worth it????? or should i directly go into the c family????12
-
When I don't code with IDE support, I will be like is it NullpointerException or NullPointerException

Anyone else getting this notification bug? It keeps telling me I have like 63 notifs but when I open it nothing appears as unread?18

Should I learn Java?
I've looked around on the internet and it seems like i should maybe but idk
just feels like i should ask le dev community :p2 -
So... I have to learn reactJS for work. (Their entire frontend is built upon it) but I am really struggling through my first week. I feel like I don't understand it at all. Unlike angular where I feel like I picked it up pretty quick. Any ideas?2
-
Just a quick question: do you think investing in Ruby/on Rails is a good choice? I really like the language, but every time I mention it I feel like an alien.3
-
It's not often that I yell, or even write in all caps. And it would be very nice to be able to write in red, all caps, bold text but there's something that I would really like to say, or rather yell, to || at my systems development teacher (and a bunch of other people), and it's this:
STOP BEING SO FUCKING VAGUE ABOUT SHIT THAT YOU SHOULDN'T BE VAGUE ABOUT SHIT. I'm really really really really really really tired of listening to "probably" and "maybe" and "there's a chance that" about shit where those words shouldn't be applicable. I don't really wanna hear about what the C# compiler probably does (with like 2 different suggestions) and I don't wanna hear about what laws there might be in place and possibly and probably and oh god just stop -
!rant does anyone know what sustainable computing is? I googled it but I don't think I understand much..like, if I took this as my major for uni then what will my potential careers be like? Is it a better choice then software engineering? 😕😕😕3
-
I am considering learning Nativescript. Is it any good? I like that it is mostly native and not just a WebView.3
-
I am so grumpy today. I like SCSS, but to make it more flexible like toogling dark-light mode are so difficulty to implement. Now i have to refactoring my class and follow what SO suggested. I hope it work!1

me: i dont like this [game/movie/product]
idiots on internet: "iF yOu DoNt LiKe it Then Don'T ..."
bitch i already paid for it5 -
So is Julia ready for production use? I like Julia but I keep hearing it is not really mature yet. I would like to use it but I am kinda hesitant. What is your opinion?2
-
I do not like the Zig programming language. It looks like Javascript for unnecessary reasons and has some weird syntax.15
-
Currently using Ubuntu Gnome. i would like to switch to a new distro. which one should i choose?
Personally, i would like to switch to Manjaro, it looks good : P8 -
I think my favourite one is Notepad++ I like things raw and out of distractions... Maybe because I write a lot of LaTeX and it feels like heaven...
-
Am I the only one that feels like they're cheating when they use libraries like Angular to make stuff easier? I dont want to feel like that but it just seems to happen :/3
-
So I wasnt liking Kivy so I decided to get PyQt5 and I'm liking it but I feel like some of the studios widgets take a lot of programming out of the process and I feel like I'm cheating idk but it makes it a lot easier
-
I use Neovim. I just like it in a way I never quite liked VSCode, PyCharm or any other editor I ever used, but couldn't say why.
Oh and also I kinda feel like I have a superpower because I know how to exit it.2 -
Any thoughts about bootstrap studio? I don't think I like it. Purchased and played around with it for a little bit and it just doesn't seem like a good tool.3
-
So... I like 30 seconds of code! And I like the idea of it tbh, I was thinking about something like before.
The question is, how bad will it be if I do a similar website but in my native language? 🤔
I don’t want to be a copycat .. but its really good idea for sharing knowledge and to help other programmers. -
I imagined working from home would be some magnificent event. The relaxation, the freedom, the parties! I thought it might be like this:
https://youtube.com/watch/...
However, the reality is that it is still a grind with more distractions. It is easier to get sidetracked. Not like how I would have hoped it would be. -
My designs look nothing like what developers have made... I have gone through each padding and margin with them :(
I feel like a failure cause it looks terrible4
