Client: I need a blog with 3 categories.
Designer: cool, let's have every post teaser in the home look diferent depending on the category.
Me (Dev): Ok...
Client: *sees actual design with different looking posts depending on category* I like it! Let's go!
Me: *codes the site*
Client: It's cool but in the home the posts look different... Could we make them look the same?
Me:...10 -
Those SEO guys that believe they are some kind of web Gods for building a real crap over WP with a $50 theme and fucking Visual Composer (the most fucked up piece of shit ever) and then ask you to just "optimize" their bloated site so they can get a great score on PageSpeed Insights.
NO.
No way I'm gonna put my hands on that *thing*.6 -
Client asks for a *simple* form in his page. I do the job. He likes it. But turns out what he really wants is a tool to create forms, with editable questions-answers and A/B testing capabilities. FUCK!9

My father-in-law wants me to buy a new computer for him. He's currently using an old Acer minitower running more malware than real software on shitty Windows Vista. He only uses Email (Outlook 2003), Facebook and Youtube. I'm gonna get him a MSI Cubi Intel N3700/4GB/120GB SSD with Linux Mint and problem solved. No more malware/virus calls from him. I'm installing Mint on Vbox right now and I'm loving it from second 0.16 -
I signed up to devRant with the same handle I use everywhere (firstName+lastName).toLowerCase() and now I feel like I can't really rant here, cause you never know who might read it...16

A recruiter who claims in his signature "Certified in Sourcing Ninja Black-Belt in Internet Recruitment" [sic] offered me a Java Developer position. Guess what? I'm no Java Developer at all.4

SEO analyst (hired by client) sends his inform to client, designer and developer (me) and all it says is: use friendly urls, proper use of h1, h2..., use alt in img tags...
Come on dude! Those are obvious things to any webdev out there who earns his salary. Do YOUR fucking job, do some fucking research and DO NOT dare to tell me page title and meta description are important (Really? No shit genius!) and tell me THE page title and THE fucking meta description... Or...
Fuck off and go find some other victim to trick with your bullshit marketing slang.3 -
Fucking shit i just had a 3 days chat with google's cloud engineer about an issue i had in a project. eventually the issue occured due to an update they made on some projects involving IAM changes that required some changes from my part in my security toles. Like wtf haven't you heard of data fixes when you roll out such changes?! I just had my production env down for 72hours for their fuckup.
At least send an email regarding it so we could set it up in time1 -
The codebase I'm currently working on is so fucking damn wrong that I made a folder for screenshots called "facepalm".2

Hired by large prestigious company to do web development. Understanding at the outset, I was not a web developer, just wanted my foot in the door with the company. 2 days after orientation, I am placed on a $20 million contract expansion with 3 other developers. All new to this contract. So: new language, new technologies, new team, no leadership, no mentorship. 2 months later after a month of asking for help, I'm asked why I'm not delivering solid code by the project exec and moved to the testing team. Testing team lead introduces me to people on the contract and answers questions or tells me vaguely where to loom. Spend last 4 months building a professional fuck you by making myself a yes man to everyone and their mother. Left the contract and have been getting regular hours with them since (including developing for them). New contract loves me and despite the project execs attempt to torpedo me, I have an excellent reputation and am positioned for career advancement already.
I couldn't give him the finger, but I made him regret lettimg me go. Original team lead has since been released for unrelated HR complaint. -
Just received a promo newsletter with all addresses in the To: field. Come on guys! It's 20fucking17!

Not a rant, but I was offered dev positions at 2 companies. Excited to start working as a developer! I guess I'll get to post actual rants soon.2

Sometimes when I read old code of mine I'm ashamed. But more often when I read others I just feel better.
(I'm talking about other webdev freelancers, not OS projects or so...) -
Why do windows users keep installing those bloated anti viruses and firewalls that just slow the hack of their system when windows essentials is enough with near to no impact
Those are the same people that got their system full with malware4 -
Their claim is "Innovation and Digital Marketing". They develop software, websites and apps...
I've just clicked on the slider's CTA for Services... and I've got a PDF!!!2 -
Why is there a - 1 plus option? Just listened to a podcast by stackoverflow where they explained how they removed the down vote option on comments out of the idea that you cant be wrong on what you think..
Just throwing an idea5 -
I'm getting started with Go (so cool so far!) and I'm trying to interact with Tumblr API using their Go Client...
Every time I google something about it I got the growing feeling that I am the first person who uses that client LOOOL2 -

I've just found a PHP dev job offer which claims literally:
– Our company philosophy: "Every person is a world unto himself." describes our daily work methodology.
And I think they say it as a positive thing LOOOOOOOL -
I love that I need to fucking babysit the fucking CI pipeline because, half of the times, it just RANDOMLY FAILS and I need to hit that fucking retry button like a 19th century kid respooling a loom.6

0. Do all practice in Clean Code
1. Do almost all exercises in Eloquent Javascript
2. Learn Python
3. Be proud of the work done in my current job project (I've just started)
4. Read own code from <wk100 and say: "omg I'm a much better programmer today!"
5. Implement 32 hour days to have time to read all those books, listen all those podcasts, code all those katas... -
Last time I accept the job to modify an outdated WordPress with expired- support-premium-theme and no proper sources and/or build system... 😠

I'm trying to deploy Ghost 1.x to Heroku to host my future coding blog. If (when) I achieve it I already know what the first post will be about Lol1

Thought that it might be a good idea to ask this question here.
Im looking for a nice logging events service for a side project that is a b2b (so my clients got their own users). My targets are tracking users behavior/events/actions in the app while been able to shred the data that belongs to each customer. A great benefit would be having a solution that would allow me to export part of the data (in sql like way) so i could provide the users the option to download their users data as well.
Was thinking about mixpanel but i dont think they have any option to export the data via api. Heap analytics is also an interesting one, but their nice features are limited to corporates..
Any suggestions? Thanks!4 -
Does anybody know a good (almost as good as Gmail) open-source browser-based email client? Thank you!6

Just discovered "git hours" (https://github.com/kimmobrunfeldt/...) and it's as simple as awesome! I'm gonna start using it in combination with RescueTime to check how accurate are my estimations... Any thoughts, suggestions or experiences on this, guys?
