A linux distro with all popular apps rewritten from scratch to use a single UI toolkit and consistent default keymaps, for a smoother desktop experience.
It's one of the reasons I have a tough time switching full-time because all the apps I need use so many different toolkits/versions/random keymap variations (inconsistent font-sizing, ctrl+tab vs ctrl+pgup, etc) that even the thought of switching makes my head spin.
Love the way GNOME's been going though (Except for their default keymaps. Ctrl+PgUp for Next Tab? Srsly?), and KDE is getting more consistent.
And yes, I know you can modify keymaps, but just wish they'd stick to widely used ones by default).1 -

I once came across dozens of extremely sensitive services' infra accesses: alibaba/aliexpress, natuonal observatories, gov institutions, telecomms, etc. I had dozens [if not hundreds] routers' and firewalls' credentials along with addresses. I tried one to confirm validity - it worked. I wanted to warn them but did not want to get in trouble.
If it were servers, I'd set a motd or append some warning messages in .profile. But not sure how to do it for non-server devices
what would you do? How would you warn them?

I actually found a use for Outlook's scummy default behaviour to open links in Edge and not the default browser.
On my company laptop I mainly use Librewolf because it allows installing plug-ins despite group policy. I only use Edge for Azure DevOps and company portals because MS SSO doesn't work with Librewolf for some reason.
Because Outlook disregards the OS settings and uses Edge by default, MS software forms a sort of bubble, and I can freely set Librewolf as my default browser.9 -

Hey passwd, when I want my password to be short then I want it fucking short. Don't tell me that "f" is too weak and prevent the action. A mere warning would suffice. (And I now know that if run as root it doesn't check the password criteria. Still, the default is annoying.)
I needed a short password to workaround a weird frozen system issue on unlocking the keyring in the latest Ubuntu release. It would freeze completely while I was typing my password, and hence by making my password short, I was quicker than the freeze, and hence got a useable system again. -

On my last deployment for the musician client I encountered a really nasty bug.
I configured all the settings in my Nginx. Theoretically everything should work, but it did not. Somehow I always ended up landing on my default Nginx page.
After hours of trying to find the typo, turning it off and on again and praying to all gods I ever heard of, I finally analysed my default Nginx config file. Somehow the server config I posted on the clients conf-file got posted beneath the default configs. WTF?

Can someone explain to me why the default selections/presets for things like custom shapes in photoshop 2020 are so insane?
For instance: the default loaded custom shapes are not something sensible/useful like say..... an arrow or a triangle. They are leaves, animals and boats, because of course photoshop, when i say i want a custom shape the most common thing i might want would be a friggin gorilla wouldnt it.
Also the default style settings for a sqaure are a a sort of tartan pattern with a dashed tartan border at 10px wide. Why are these choices so insane?6 -

Someone wrote some error handling middleware for the whole application.
Then someone wrote some default classes for HTTP errors; BadRequest, Unauthorized and so on.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think throwing one of these default errors would give the proper status code, instead of default everything to 500.
But alas, I do know better.
