"Sir, I fixed the recent bug"

"No Sir, I pushed it immediately"

"We need you to build a feature on our website to stop people taking screenshots. I can use the print screen key and then easily print out our website design. You need to make the site design harder to copy".
This is an extract from a recent client email I received. To say I'm in shock is an understatement.26 -
Hats off for Microsoft.
After recent updates we are now able to install Windows 10 without ever being promoted to log into a Microsoft account. I was even able to uninstall OneDrive like any other application.
Small steps into the good direction.9 -
My parents have never had a router faster than 10Mb/s. When our most recent one finally bit the dust, I urged them to buy a decent one, because everyone uses the internet now. LOOK AT THE SPEED WE'VE BEEN MISSING.9

What I feel when browsing recent lately.
How to get ++:

I've written a lot of bad code, seen a lot, but attached is the most recent 'worst' I've seen.
What makes the situation worse/funny is:
1. The developer's code comment.
2. Check-in passed a code review.
3. The 'legacy code' was written last week.29 -
The new IT lady of my previous company told me this:
"Hi, the Internet is not working"
"ok, did you make any recent changes to the router?"
"I didn't touch the router. I removed the switch in between so the internet should still work"
"You removed the switch"
"yeah but I didn't touch the router so what's the problem blah blah blah"

In my recent rant I told that I will go to an programming challange (or so) in Bonn, Germany.
Today my boss told me I can go if I present the competition to all other bosses in our department + I will be a participant in the "innovation section" of our department. YESS FUCKING YESSSSSSS

Setup my port honeypot today finally, including port 22, then wrote a custom dashboard for some data tracking, feels great to have it open on my screen seeing the bans just roll in every 2 seconds of refresh, the highest hits are as expected from china, russia and india, also filed ~700 reports and already got 300 banned from their service. (mainly Microsoft Azure for whatever reason)
I wanted to first automate that (or atleast blacklist report to various IP lists via API), but then I was afraid that I'll be one day stupid enough to somehow get banned - don't want myself to get reported lol5 -
I was so proud of my recent tiny little node script that I published it on npm.
I really just kinda wanted to learn how npm worked. I don't expect anyone to find any use from this.

With the recent mark zuckerberg hearing, a ton of websites have actually changed their privacy policies and terms of service, to be much more transparent, so it did have a good impact, but the thought that it took that, to implement those changes is infuriating4

Anyone else having connection problems after the recent Windows 10 update? We've been slammed at work with them. If you do, here's an easy fix:
0. Go to Command Prompt (Run as Administrator)
1. First command:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
(One of them will probably fail, that's fine.)
2. Second command:
netsh winsock reset
3. Restart the computer.13 -
"The client has reported {some problem}. Do we know what has caused it?"
Dev: "{explanation} is the cause"
"Ok, was that caused by a recent change?"
Dev: "No, the system has been like that since the start"
"Ok, but who did it? Was it some recent work?"
Dev: "The system has been like that since the start"
Constant fucking blame and finger pointing.
Fuck off. -

Hey guys,
Based on some recent posts about automating repetitive tasks, I was wondering, what are some tasks that you have automated?

What do you put on your website these days if you don't have a service to offer or recent projects to show off?
Imho portfolios are just weird (i'm also not in the need of one) and my domain choice (milotic.io) was made kinda drunken, too.
Any ideas?2 -
So my last rant was regarding a piece of code I found while clearing up an app. Here's the newest edition... a recent migration I found... a class within a migration creating records, this is not what migrations are for haha you don't add data using migrations jeez help me.8

Whoo!! Client's satisfied with recent launch of product!! Still has little bugs to fix here are there, but general feedback was positive, stating it's "much smoother" -
recent graduate and fresh into the market with little experience in what i've chosen as a career. got my first (tiny) paycheck for my first project.
didnt know what to do with the money so i bought 3 domains of which 2 are my name with different spellings (i am not a narcissist)8 -
Open Visual Studio with existing project. After a while closed it due to accidentally clicked the close button.
Open back the Visual Studio again...
Opening the recent project...
**Project is (unavailable)**
Is okay, I can always close and open it back again. And I have done it!
The previous opened tab all is gone.2 -
I asked my team-mate ."did you run the best model for testing"?
He said:- He said "I ran the most recent model "
I am like:- OK . Thank You -
A recent interview was quite weird.
I emailed my resume to this company, the recruiter keeps sending me emails for 3 days asking follow-up questions and bunch of irrelevant crap. After that the emails completely stopped, she answers me back after a month saying I didn't get the job. Still wondering about that huge amount of personal questions2 -
Our most recent development process:
1. Implement feature
2. Create task
3. Release feature
4. Review feature
4.1 Possibly reimplement
5. Add tests1 -
For you Mechanical Keyboard peeps out there, I just wrote a review about my SliceMK (Erogodox clone), Model M and RK84:

Pretty recent one. I found that I can use Perl to edit files using a single cmd line (with regex search and replace). Loved it.
-
What is with me and my headphones ? 4 headphones , all broken after 4 to 5 months of use and one recent headphone rendered unusable after 1 month . I am going to ditch wired headphones for good ! That fragility of the wires near the connector .. I suspect they are intentionally made fragile to frustate the customer and make them buy a new one !! :(6

I thought CNN.com must be either down altogether or hobbling under a DDoS when I got a 503 error from http://cnn.com/2010/CRIME/.... But the main page and a recent story worked fine, so the site clearly wasn't overloaded or down. The 503 was just a 404 in disguise! Webmasters, please call a spade a spade.3
-
From my recent experience, I observed that a flow of money should be there, else the project will never get complete. Is it true?2
-
Few days after a recent Hackathon, the team I'm on really wants to follow me and build stuff together because, I've built stuff before and they haven't.
How do I handle this fame of mine so that I can get them to become great developers themselves? -
Until that recent terrorist attack, I had believed that Ariana Grande is the name of a spacecraft or something. I studied about Ariane 5's failure in software testing course. Maybe that's what made me think like that. 😁

I love that it takes Google forcing apps to be using more recent SDK's for them to update there own bloody apps that have been using deprecated SDK's and libraries for years...2

Media always misinterprets anything related to computer and information technology. Recently found an Indian News channel which aired news about recent cyber attack and stated virus named "Ransomware" (not WannaCry) has affected computers all over the world. They aired wrong information without hesitation despite India being world's rapidly growing IT hub.6

Couple hours before:
Management: "Emergency/last minute Meeting in 2 hours! Please attend"
Meeting time:
Management: "We just wanted to let you know that our mask usage is being changed to fit the recent CDC guidance"
Total time wasted: 6 minutes. 12 if you count the time for any questions. -
So nice, a good, well structured DTAP environment with Acceptance and Test containing a recent dump from Production so that bugs can be reproduced properly........ *wakes up*

It's been one month since I joined devRant, the community is awesome and it is good to be here.
It was the second-best suggestion given by Google in recent times. -
Me start reporting at Standup about my recent work. My Teamleader start talking the same time, saying he has seen the commits and I don't have to go into details anymore.
Thank you asshole for disrespecting me and my work.3 -

I had uploaded my recent game alpha to IndieDB. I need some people to say if it is any good or what I should change 🙈 http://goo.gl/DiypXP1 -
Curious, do the Recent and Top feeds show all posted rants, or is it different for each person as well?10

I wanted to continue working on my project at my grandparents house, using my laptop.
I've pushed the most recent code, but what I didn't push was the recent commits I made in my helper library...
I was updating and using the library locally and now I have a dependency on ../library name. Great job me3 -
.NET Core broke cause of the recent ncurses update… And I just HAD to do a full system upgrade on my Arch laptop right… Guess I'll try to downgrade ncurses now…
-
am i the only one who likes quoting Blazing Saddles in git commits?
most recent being adding mongo to a project. -
Following recent accusations against Facebook, I downloaded my data from Facebook. They've data of all the contacts ever existed on my phone and logs of all the messages and calls between me and anyone else.
This immense amount of data is really scary regarding how much control they can have over one's personal life.
Fuck Facebook.4 -
Given the recent #deletefacebook movement and everyone deleting their Facebook accounts for privacy reasons, I must ask. Is LinkedIn any better than facebook? How much do you guys trust them with personal information?9
-
Everyone is talking about how safari mobile is ass and that it needs to be destroyed, but nobody talks about how Firefox mobile is an actual piece of shit and how Firefox in general is generally behind the curve now in supporting recent web tech. They need to do something or else they are going to be fucked.8

In recent time, I'm thinking about to start freelancing (or at least start preparing for it).
Problem is that I'm completely new to it. In following weeks, which steps should I take to successfully introduce myself to that market? Which mistakes to avoid? Which sites do you recommend?
Thanks in advance for contribution. :) -
ok you go to your fancy tiled cabinet to do some serious shit. how you pleasure yourself while doing it?

Today I talked to a recent full stack developer bootcamp graduate who decided to change careers when she was having a hard time finding a job as a UX designer.
I can't help but judge her by her website. It is beautifully made. The CSS transitions are clean, the details are fine and it had an amazing feel. However, when I took a peak at the console I found out it was made with a SquareSpace template.
With UX background and being a recent fullstack bootcamp graduate, why make it with SquareSpace? It just feels really off. With that background you should at least be able to make a static Gatsby React page and host it on Heroku or Github.
Am I overreacting?1 -
What's your prediction on when Apple will have a great fall, with recent failures of mobiles technologies?2
-
Just putting it out there..
I absolutely abhor the gesture navigation and new recents app UI on android Pie.
Doesn't make upgrading from oreo to pie on non-rooted phones worth it. (that recent apps view is horrendous)
I thought of writing a post describing in details why this is so bad. But I am too lazy to do anything so fuck it. -
Docker deployment
Wondering how you guys are doing docker deployment (angular, php, whatever) on self hosted servers from a private gitlab instance ?
Also most recent gitlab release seems Very promisssing on this.
There's a lot info on deploying to aws or google but not on this case (at least clear)
Would like to hear from you about your setups1 -
How do you deal with situation when u need to merge multiple feature branches to develop branch? All feature branches have develop branch as base. So as soon as one feature is merged to develop then there will be contlicts in other feature branches.
Should I merge first feature branch to develop, then rebase feature2 branch on most recent develop and then merge the rebased feature2 branch to most recent develop and continue like that?
What if later I need to do hotfixes for previously merged branches? Should I revert them then rebase them on most recent develop and once again merge it to develop? Or should I just make small commits for fixes.10 -
For some reason, of recent I do have constant headache and I always feel like falling on the floor when I work for like 1 to 2 hours. What might be the cause of this ???3
-
I'm sorry my GitHub was inactive all 2018. Doesn't mean I wasn't coding. I just put my recent projects up so maybe I can fill out those little squares on my profile

Getting job offers and good feedbacks from recent interviews on my birthday. Wow this definitely one of the best birthdays I have ever had 🙂🙏🙏2

Was prepared to fight tooth and nail in recent online codesprint. Well in short, I overestimated my ability to study for tests and now i have 2 choices: study for the test that is 2 days later, or code for 2 days to maintain my rank...

Most recent and visible trend for me is reuse everything. Nobody wants to have anything new, they just want new glue between old pieces.
-
I feel that it's better to develop in Kotlin, for android, as a beginner, given the recent announcement.
Any other suggestions?12 -
Recent experience (previous sem).
We had this DBMS teacher who used to sit most of the time during lectures, and used to write SQL in lab session with the help of lab technician.
We're saved by more experienced lecturer at last hour. -
I've got a question for y'all.
What with Facebook's recent pig-like nature and disregard of users, I have been thinking there is a gap in the market for a better, safer social site that offers all the benefits of Facebook without the downsides.
What are your thoughts?4 -
What have devs tried for creating and hosting their own blog?
I have tried multiple options with goal of being least painful to maintain. Recent is based on Netlify + Gatsby. Have documented here - https://abhi2rai.com/blog/...
But want to hear what others have done.6 -
Recent posts from @kiki and others made me think about tests. So what are your 2 cents regarding integration tests?13

Working in a company where you can't even have your recent tabs when opening the browser and have the stupid corporate start page. At least there's Session Buddy where you can open a window with yesterday's tabs, but why on Earth would employees not have the possibility to keep the recent tab setting enabled? Especially when it was like this pre-merger.3
-
Do you ever rush to your profile to read your recent comments because you suddenly think there's a chance you made a spelling mistake?
-
So I was wondering... What's the worst burn you've seen from an unknown angry dev that you had to clean up?
A recent one of mine was a client in need with nuked hosting, nuked domain records, no backups, no access to any accounts and the business set to permanently closed on Google.
I thought that last one was a nice touch!1 -
I wouldn't call Google totally breaking the recent apps button in third party launchers okay, but I must say that being exposed to gesture navigation against my will changed my opinion on it vastly. Sliding on the bottom of the screen to switch between open apps is incredible, it's the perfect equivalent for the desktop alt+tab6

It's been a few months, and it'll be further few months until I get access to my beloved Linux machine.
However in the recent weeks, a sudden interest for gentoo has sparked my mind.
The Linux machine is running antergos, but I think I'm ready to try gentoo, when I get back in a few months!1 -
Is DevRant still maintained?
Site is still up, but no official updates for many years now. Socials also seem to have dried up.
I'm also seeing oddities in my notifications - haven't been part of this place for a while, but in my notifications I see random replies (necros & GPT responses) as recent as this year.6 -
Little question: is it just me that does not get the notification when browsing with the browser? If I go here (https://www.devrant.io/feed/recent) I see no notifications in the top left icon (the one that opens the menu) but if I go on the app, BAM! new notifications waiting.
This has been happening only recently, is it just me?7 -
I was in my class on Thursday around 12 PM noon Indian standard time.
I couldn't access github on mobile (connection refused error) but at 2 pm once I was out of class could access it.
Any guesses if it was related to recent ddos attack on dyn ?
Location: India2 -

I was scrolling devrant as we do and spotted something intriguing.
Just beneath the panel where the 'wyd' tag is- is some background text. And it is static. Its the bar of check boxes that allow us to choose a filter (Algo. Recent etc)
Just random noticings.1 -
In light of recent events...
What do you guys think about a technocratic government?
Seems like our current system needs some debugging...1 -
From my recent break up, it's safe to assume that I don't have a social... anymore.
I'll be more optimistic here and think I'll get more time to learn and give more time to fix issues -
I'm not working as a developer for money, sometimes it's hard to find the motivation to code on a recent project. The result are 10 projects that are all not finished -.-4
-
I hate when studying computer engineering but university want us to learn non technical subjects or outdated topics such as applet in java, who the fuck is using applets now days,
Or no single word about react, flutter,or recent framework and teaching php and JSP,and vb.net11 -

I'm writing this rant because I've read all the recent rants here. As well as the top +-100 Algo rants.
So for the ones with the same craving for rants, here's mine. -
Finding it impossible to get a job as a recent graduate software dev. Any help for UK London based jobs? 😭😭😭5

Hey there Ranters,
So I am big film and video guy. I was wondering what good IT shows you guys watching. My all time favorite is The IT Crowd. Most recent show i am watching is Silicon Valley.
Any suggestions?10 -
Should I Price my addition to a paid software?
I Ranted about a program that was unfinnished and began writing a sample software that the programmer can use. With the recent update he placed his quote to HQ in the same Dropbox folder as the .exe,
Should I Share the code or Should i charge him?5 -
So apparently the most recent version of xcode is buggy? I just got the new macbook pro with the touchbar and was excited to dive into ios app development. Should i wait to download xcode until the issues are fixed? Any xcode users out there?1

I spent a few days being mean to my LMDE4 and newly installed LMDE5 and Debian in past months. Every time I needed to run something small&simple under linux, it was acting up. Traces, botched boots, OS freezing up...
The issue was in VirtualBox the whole time and recent update finally fixed it.
Sorry for blaming you Tux -
1) make a ordered list
2) prepare the props
3) specify a talking order
4) fuck everything because everyone does everything they want anyway
5) get a brutal amount of coffee*
funfact: my longest recent meeting was supposed to go for 30 minutes but we ended up talking about the position of a fucking infobox for 4 1/2 hours
What was your longest recent meeting?

Working on a batch image editor in python as my most recent time killer project. Started out using PIL for py2. Port over to pillow on py3, and one of the core pillow functions exploded my computer.
It memory leaked and took every last kb of unused memory!

Newbie here ! What do experience pro grammars think of the recent wave of “OOP is garbage” comments on the internet ? Is OOP truly on the decline ? Or is it that OOP should be a feature of a language while coding rather than a “everything is an object” mentality.5

One of the best product feature updates (though it's not "very" recent) that I really found interesting and useful from Developer perspective is integration of JIRA cloud with GITHub and how it uses issue key to associate the commit.
I makes things a bit easy while working in DevOps model :)
Please feel free to post your reviews. -
Heading to interview as recent graduate /junior - 1 and half year out as bachelor . What do you think about recent graduates support in companies ?

The recruiter just asked me to send over an updated CV. I'm filling in the tasks and responsibilities of my recent roles and trying to balance the daily bullshit with actual achievements. How should I word it?1

So my company isn't that fully fledged in development and now I keep seeing deadlines being pushed forward even though we're already fully loaded with tasks...
I kept mentioning that risk management would be handy but only after the recent shifts in progress delays they are like "hey hear my great idea about risk management!" *facepalm*
