"Can you make the UI look uglier and more ... Traditional?"
Removed CSS completely and gave them an HTML only page. They loved it.16 -
*I was recruiting programmer's for a Unity game and this guy came along*
Me: So what can you program in?
Pearson: HTML and a bit of CSS.
Me: *oh dear* any else?
Person: I learnt Python recently. I know how to make variables!19 -
Today let me see how much of a better HTML/CSS lecturer I had before. The new guy just does everything from W3Schools while the older one, after telling us the basics, just gave us .psd files and let us figure out what was what and we learned a lot from that.2

Could the Web Developers here tell me which languages other than HTML, CSS and JavaScript should I learn if I want to be a full stack developer? I also know a bit of C#, if anyone is wondering.18

I'm creating a website and I'm thinking: Wow, I use html, css, javacript and python, I'm awesome! Then I see what other people know: shit, I'm not awesome...

I remember last year in school one of my teachers had us make a little web page with HTML and CSS. She was confused when I was using an external CSS stylesheet. She thought all the CSS had to be in a style tag inside of the index.html file...6

Youtube, codecademy, w3schools, stackoverflow, etc.
Started with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript until WordPress introduced me to PHP. It was hate at first sight.5 -

So i was teaching basic html and css to my cousin's high school class. I am not good at coming up with examples.23

Ten hours of making a fully responsive website for a gf's university class in only pure HTML and CSS made me realize how much I take frameworks for granted.18

Me: What programming languages do you know ?
Person: I know HTML and CSS and little SQL.
Me: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *cries inside*3 -
That's it. I am going to learn HTML. Like really, really learn it.
And after that, I am going to learn CSS. Like fully, totally learn it.
Nah .. I am fine.8 -
I'm a backender, Linuxer (servers + cli included) and security person.
For some projects I do need to write my own frontends and that, in general, IS my worst css experience.
HTML is quite manageable but CSS, except for the basics, is fucking Chinese to me.
So yeah, about every goddamn project that includes ME having to do frontend stuff is/has been the worst HTML/CSS experience.14 -
When your classmates don't even know how to code HTML and CSS effectively but they want to learn how to hack...
They think hacking is about breaking into other people's computers and stuff... sigh... the people I have to deal with...13 -
Had a plan to master JavaScript in 4 months and then, cover HTML and CSS in the next 3 months followed by Java in the remaining 5 months.
10 years later, I am still learning JavaScript.9 -
Meetup guy: "oh, I did some coding too. I can write a bit of html and css"
Me: *in my head* I fucking hate people like you.1 -
Fucking evopdf, I spent 2 days trying to figure out why the fuck my js isn't rendering the html for printing. I created the structure in html already, and it's rendered perfectly with js DOM, when evopdf ran from backend it shows nothing, tried not using external script, tried to put value one by one, it works, my css is also broken, thanks fucker, the client only asked to directly download the html page instead of save as PDF. I thought why the fuck not?
evo pdf modified my CSS element for some odd reason, flex and grid got messed up, page width also fucked along with font size, doesn't support some javascript function. I shit you not the .after and let doesn't work. Fucking garbage
Edit: it worked now, but I spend hours today rewriting everything just to looks decent and it still looks like shit fml6 -
When somebody says they know how to program and I ask them what languages they know and they say XML, CSS, HTML.16

I accepted a job that requires coding in html, css, js and php and I don't code in those languages at all. Whoops.8

TIL that my company has an HTML/CSS guy whose only job is to optimize others frontend code and he has a higher pay scale than me.
How the fuck that skill could end up into a legitimate job profile!!!!7 -
S = Some person I know
Me = Me
S: Hey, I heard you also do [software/web development].. I was hoping to get some advice from you about some advanced level HTML and CSS for my classes.
//or that if I could teach him something
Me: What do you study?
S: Oh, I teach.
Me: 😯 Really? What do you teach?
S: Oh, just some basic HTML and CSS with Notepad to about 50-60 students.
Me: (;﹏;) That's great.
/*this is a shortened version of a very long conversation*/
They teach some basic HTML and CSS like <table> and <marquee> and stuff. They also teach C++ and Tally ERP.
Also, he and some other person made their small intuitions' website but they don't know how to put it online. They made it in, as far as I understand, simple HTML and CSS USING NOTEPAD (Don't know if they used JS or something else). That's.. really courageous or something... ? I don't know, I couldn't have a look at it because they have it on their local computer and don't know what Git is.
I showed him some better alternatives and ways that they could use (editors, version control, db, etc.) to improve their curriculum and answered his questions, and I told him that I'll try to help in any way I can if they ever need me.
This also made me realize how much I've learned and grown since I first started learning C in school. Still, I've got so much more that I need and want to learn.
//Always keep learning
😊
PS. What would you've told him if you had been in my place?1 -

Today I was talking to my manager about html and css.
As i was explaining certain things about the structure of the files and the naming conventions for the css classes I mentioned the body of the document.....but got...er...distracted...yes distracted...and said booty instead of body.
She started laughing and I made a tomato look pale because of how red I got. I zipped my hoodie all the way up and talked from the hood hole around my face.
Best solution ever.5 -
It's possible that you should take a basic HTML and CSS course before you start a company based on teaching resources related to progressive web apps...8
-
Stop using 5 year old, terrible drag and drop website designer which uses inline CSS and JavaScript and let us actually write it. They (barely) teach us html and then say that using a website designer is how it works in the real world. They actually disallow us writing it from scratch. Just glad I taught myself it already!6
-
So starting this month, December and January I'll be learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP so that I can develop my own website as a personal profile. Anyway, in my googling I found this odd yet very informative picture.11

I am a New student in a programming school. Haven't coded enything ever. Use 1 week to make html, css and JavaScript website from scartch. *Happy for my achivement* curent teacher comes to review my work. Tells me it's shit. Teacher uses only ready maid templates... Fuuuuuu9

Dear management,
I require one vertical monitor for my JS, one vertical monitor for my HTML, one vertical monitor for my CSS, and two stacked ultrawide monitors for testing in browser.
Thanks,

When you're asked to extend a functionality on a piece of code and the 2.5k lines in the view are a juicy mix of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the functionality relying on jQuery trasversing through the document tree and expecting things to be in their place. Oh did I mention html build with strings in JS? I'm going to love this day! WHY, JUST WHY?! *gasp*3
-
I see too many back-end rants against front-ends.
Should we talk about table layouts, malformed html, programatically generated spaghetti wrong markup, css absurd class naming, infinite div wrapping (div-itis), awful usability, poor legibility, terrible typography, wrong color palettes and user-unfriedly design? To name a few horrors i've seen so far.
Some people won't admit that their contempt against HTML and CSS being 'not real code' actually hides their inability or unwillingness to learn it. Or they need the feeling of superiority.11 -
Bootcrap. Just looked at their main page, and it's a whopping 75k of markup plus 294k of CSS (W-T-F?!), and 224k of JS. All of that shit for a page that shouldn't be more than 10k of markup, 16k of CSS, and that has no reason to even use JS at all.
<a class="d-flex flex-column flex-lg-row justify-content-center align-items-center mb-4 text-dark lh-sm text-decoration-none
Yeah, that crap is supposed to be "easier" to write. That's what you get for totally failing to understand how HTML/CSS even work, clinging to late 1990s practices, and ditching decades of progress since then.
Although the Bootcrap folks do manage to write valid HTML. As low as that sounds, but that counts already as an exceptional skill in the notoriously low-skilled frontend "dev" world that is all about making shitty websites.
Oh, and the rest like Failwind and Bulimia aren't any better. They already fail at delivering valid HTML on their websites.17 -
Hello everyone I am Austin. I program mainly in python but i knowledge in c++, java, css, html, and javascript14
-
Trying to get my first job as a web developer. I was talking to a friend's friend:
- I know HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL.
- Cool, where did you work before?
- At an English School as a teacher.
- Nice, I need some freelance translations2 -
The moment when you use so many different languages in a project (Python, JavaScript, coffescript, PhP, CSS, HTML, Bash) that at one point you feel like you can't program the simplest things and you mix all the different languages together into one...😫6

Decided to take three different programming language classes in the same semester. Advanced Java, C++, and HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Wouldn’t have been so bad if I didn’t have an assignment due in each every week.3

Requirements: Support for Outlook 2007-2016.
Me never done one before, thinking: "Regular Html and a bit of CSS, no biggie, can't be that hard"
Also me: "Okay let's see which CSS features are supported in Outlook 2007"
Quick google search to find out that there is nearly no support for anything and that Outlook uses Word as render engine.
Someone seriously thought using motherfucking Word to render Html & CSS is a good idea? FML9 -

I need bleach...
Lot of bleach.
When you think that not using a JS framework is bad...
Ever saw a Frankenstein of a HTML, PHP and JQuery? Full rewrite of an old project with more than enough time allowed....
Just... That was not awful enough.
*sobs* so the dev added bootstrap onto this pile of garbage... Instead of rewrite....
Think I missed CSS or included it in HTML? Lol. No.
No CSS. Inline. HTML 4 Tags.

<table width=40 class="table table-striped">

The directory hasnt any seperate folder except the img-folder - css, html and js are inside the root dir...7 -
Stop teaching people deprecated bulls*it.
I'm taking a "Web Design" course and the teacher wants us to use html attributes and the <font> tag to format pages. He doesn't allow us to use CSS. Says "We'll get to CSS later, right now I'm teaching you HTML". He thought us the <frameset> thing which isn't even supported in HTML5. And of course no <header>, <footer>, <aside> etc.
Same thing in my C++ course. The computers don't even have a C++11 (or newer) compiler. Just an old version of Code::Blocks we're not allowed to update. It does support C++0x so you can still get some of the features, but still.4 -
Spent 2 days of hackathon creating keynote presentation and wrote 0 lines of code. Our "app" was only html and css. We won and I felt sorry for some guys because they had some great apps and still lost to keynote.4

Me: hey backend, I'd like you to make three external API calls and a system call, then based on the result can you sort out the output and add it to the data base
Backend: sure *goes and does its thing*
Me: hey html/css, can I please have a square in the middle of the screen and a rectangle ok the left that takes up the full height minus 6px of the border?
html/css: *starts loading*
Me: ok cool thanks *anticipation*
html/css: *displays something resembling a 5 year old who just found out about rulers*
Me: oh ffs is it that hard5 -
4th grade. My parents left for the night and got a babysitter for me and my younger siblings. The babysitter showed me a game she likes in IE. You could make an account, raise a digital pet, a "neopet," play flash games for points to buy items from other users who listed them in their own stores that had custom css/html, including bg music. This was the first time I had really witnessed what the web could look like. Animated tiled gif bgs really amazed me so I took to google with which I discovered sites where one could copy css and html snippets for themes. I stored each new html tag I discovered via w3cschools.com in a powerpoint where the snippets I found were pasted somewhere randomly in the ppt. From there I learned html, CSS, and a billion other things. To date I've made websites, apps with several langs in win/Linux/osx/Android (but not ios yet). I've managed servers, and databases , and DNS records. I've in even ran website with 100k requests a day.3

Yet another funny bug for your iPhone friends. Oh Apple...

I'm so sick of being forced to use CSS frameworks at work. Every time I see one of those HTML elements with 87 terribly-named CSS classes, I want to scream and break something
What's wrong with Vanilla CSS? Why is it so unpopular to just stick with plain CSS, I feel like I'm infinitely more productive when I can just write out some short CSS than trying to wrangle the dumbass CSS framework to do what I want it to do. Even things like Vuetify make me lose my mind with the stupid shit you have to do to get it to behave how you want it
Also, Material Design is ugly as hell to me16 -
Hey guys just completed my second pen at codepenio ...went a little side track from the course and wanted to know what I'm capable of doing now with HTML and CSS... Here is the result..any kind of critisim is appericated https://codepen.io/imshubhamsingh/...6

I'm surprised how after using gulp task with minify js, css, html, smoosh and compress to gz file the whole web size down from 200kb to 20kb.

Dear Tailwindcss,
Fuck you.
Fuck you and your messy as fuck html files.
Fuck your shitty pseudo 90s 'Let's dump all our shit in a single html file'.
Fuck your claims of being responsive, most of your widths and heights are done in FUCKING PIXELS.
Fuck your claims of being flexible, adding a 10% width class took 20 minutes of scrolling through your shitty docs.
And the worst part is, the poor devs 4 years from now are gonna be stuck maintaining this goddamn shit because shitty enterprise companies desperately trying to stay relevant are treating this shit like the Holy God of Frontend styling, the solution to CSS once and for all
FUCKING IDIOTS CSS ISN'T BROKEN, THIS GARBAGE IS!!!! WE DON'T NEED A SHITTY SOLUTION TO A PROBLEM THAT DOESN'T EXIST
Tailwind can go fuck itself with it's 200 character html lines9 -
Why do clients always try to use our lingo? They sound stupid. I read a post yesterday that said "no coding necessary. Just HTML and CSS" . Um. What? I also have a client that always tells me "I just need you to make some updates to the CSS with programming" . 😐🔫2

My colleague has spent 3 days writing a responsive menu that has 5 items in it with no nesting that needs to move to a sidebar on mobiles.
I think that should be maximum 30 lines html and max 40 lines css. Or at least around that sort of area.
He has 150 lines html, 200 lines css, and is not even finished yet. He also made 2 entirely different menus for different screen sizes instead of using media queries...
The reasoning from all my colleagues is that its because the menu needs to use css grid (it doesn't they just randomly decided we can't use flex, float or online).
Working with people that give reasons for their garbage code that literally makes no sense every day gives me a headache....6 -
When the poet in me fuses with the geek in me:
Will you be the css to my html?
When I encountered you,
My system threw a fatal error
My RAM was overloaded,
And my CPU went haywire
Will you be the css to my html?
I would show you my source code,
And let you merge your branch into mine
I will help you fix your memory leaks
And I will try filling all your nullpointers
Will you be the css to my html?
Your frontend would perfectly plug into my backend
I can compile all your heavy code,
Just in time
Baby just promise me,
You'll provide the JSON
To my API calls
Will you be the css to my html?
This is my first draft... Constructive criticism is welcome!4 -

What’s the difference between a coder, programmer, developer and a software engineer? I see many people who attend a 2 month coding bootcamp where they learn html, css, javascript and put software engineer in their title9

Back then, I was just about a "computer guru" and friends would often ask me stuff about hardware.
One of them came to me and asked if I could make a website. I accepted despite knowing nothing about html, css, js or PHP.
I then hopped on a tutorial about html and css, and pretty much learned the basics of html in a day, then added some css and got introduced to PHP "as a way to prevent yourself from copy pasting the same bits of html everywhere".
Turned out the client wanted a CMS, which I couldn't do, then I decided I would go to a design/it school. Before finishing my 'studies' (accelerated apprenticeship), I already landed my today's job. As I'm not a "real dev" (more a self taught guy), I'm learning stuff everyday, and today I am comfortable with back end and front end web development
Code is addicting, even more than gaming!3 -
Went to hackathon...created meteor/react mobile app and fell in love!
Now I have to go back to work and work with blan html/CSS and my favorite php(which I absolutely despise) -
I was humiliated because I participated in the development of a site to calculate the time in LoL and I dared to do it in pure html/css....
Let me explain: since I was a teenager, I have loved creating sites around the League of Legends community and my portfolio is therefore full of similar projects. I live in a city that is not necessarily tech and so it was complicated for me to find a coding school but I ended up getting there and being accepted. From the 3rd day, my classmates questioned me and asked to see some of my projects. Proudly, I show them https://wastedtime.io which is a project in which I voluntarily participated by making html/css allowing them to recover the time spent on LoL. When suddenly one of them asks me the question “how did I do the front”. So I told him I did pure HTML/CSS. So he looked at me with a haughty look, making fun of me for not using React, the strangest thing was that the others were following me and looking at me like I was a dinosaur. What's wrong with people? I had already done this with PHP on the Internet and now in real life I also get mocked with HTML and CSS without using libraries. I learned my lesson with PHP, but now I have to face the same ridicule with pure HTML/css because I'm "not good enough with my time"? Aren't the reactions a little disproportionate? I mean, do I have a few more years left without being singled out and called a dinosaur like php coders or is it already over for those who do pure HTML/css ?9 -
I honestly don't care what you think about HTML or CSS, but if you think you are too good for it and IF I see you using <br> for margins, sticking everything inside divs or writing CSS that makes my eyes bleed, then I hope you get to maintain a codebase like that one day. The only thing worse than bad code is an ignorant dev. Don' be that guy.6

When I signed up for the technical college and heard that we would have media tech classes, I was expecting frontend stuff like HTML, CSS and JS, not how to make folders and change the font in notepad. Fuck.1

I've been working with HTML/CSS for my whole adult life and yet I still sometimes get surprised by how margin collapsing works. No, the section below does not have any negative margins. The world is just an unending mystery.6

That feel when the html parser you are stuck with randomly strips out css and js so you have to reinvent grid layouts with tables.4

For you front end developer out there:
How do you recommend a back end guy learn how to make something presentable? I can write HTML and CSS, but I can't seem to make anything that looks nice7 -
Just created a custom html, css, js bundler to bundle all my files and minify it to a single file.
Development will be a breeze right now.2 -
Maybe two days ago I expressed interest in creating a dynamic HTML templating system.
Here's what I came up with. template.js only 34 lines. Which is great because JS is ugly and I want the least amount of it as possible.
The idea is you can create hiddent templates, modify them using traditional means (HTML/ CSS), then generate an infinite amount of them in JS.
Btw: Screenshot is two different images stitched together. There isn't JS and HTML in the same place.19 -

CSS + Noob + Import html
Hey guys
Need some help here.
Is it possible to include an HTML file inside another HTML file without an iframe? I wanted to create the structure of the page in one file and include it inside another HTML (for example, have one index that dynamically includes an HTML file in a section, called by the menu OR having the menu, top and footer in one or two files and include them in all the other pages...)42 -
I always hated CSS.
Then I realized it's not CSS's fault, it's the fault of the initial developer who wrote the HTML code and CSS classes in a weird way.1 -
Dude I want to ask you , It's possible for me to call myself as a software engineer if I always got a cancer when I try to create HTML template ? I'm suck as fuck on front-end, I can't even create a single HTML template even if you give me help with css framework. I don't know what to do with HTML and CSS, they're totally fucked up my life.14

I'm curious
How many of you have your own personal website like name.com or something
Also my mentor recommended I build one if I get time. Should I???? I have taught myself HTML,CSS and can mostly understand JavaScript Would it be worth it???16 -
so here I am, at 3 in the morning on my tablet and I think, "Yes I too would like to join the pain of web development" so I download sololearn apps for html, JavaScript, CSS, SQL, and PHP.
WTF brain?!?! 😂4 -
Focus of mastering one language, don't jump around to every web langue out there.
Also don't follow the programming language band wagon. Focus and master the basics first HTML, CSS, Jquery. These aren't going anywhere and a SOLID understanding of JavaScript will go WAY further then you think4 -
I have this web development course(on the university), and we are not allowed to use javascript. Only php, html and css. FML15

"Web" Teacher wanted us to learn horribly outdated html in the middle of web2.0 wave.
HTML5 ? CSS3 ? nope.
No CSS at all, and longest part of the class was on the importance of prehistoric HTML doctypes.
Capitalized tags, tables, BGCOLOR attributes...
Like she scrapped everything on W3schools...1 -
Working with a japanese website, and they always come up with thoundsand of different styles, there is no systematic at all. Feel like they just "freestyle" on photoshop to create a design, then I had to make HTML/CSS from it. OMG5

So I go into Google Search Console to try to determine why its saying pages are not compliant with mobile and whatnot.
3 hours later I come out realizing that what Google REALLY wants is for everyone to build every web page as static HTML with no script tags and never a call to an external website. Just dump all that javascript and css and HTML into one BIG FRIGGIN FILE so our crawler feels satisfied that it's loading everything all in one request.
No CMSes allowed unless GOOGLE built it.
Let's just all revert to HTML 1.0 and be done with it.1 -
Front end web development :
In 7 the standard : HTML
In First semester : HTML , CSS , BOOTSTRAP
Now : HTML , CSS , BOOTSTRAP , JS , SASS , JSX , REACT , JS libraries and what not . It's seriously very deep . -
Finishing the whole front end for a pretty big site in 2 hours with 2 people and only 1 knows HTML and CSS2

A friend suggested that I'd start learning a scriptable language like Ruby, Python or JavaScript instead of beginning with HTML and CSS, until I feel comfortable with programming.
I want to be a web developer and Ive learned some HTML.
So, any opinions?9 -
When you’re struggling, learning some new framework or concept and your friends still think the entire internet is made solely with html and css because they took desktop publishing in 9th grade.

Hey guys

After a long day of project management and endless emails, I would go home and dig through books and online training programs on html and css. A few weeks later I really found that enjoyed the work.
A year later I took the leap, quit my job and went back to school. Great decision. -
So I started doing PHP, HTML and CSS a week ago. And I once started a codecademy course in JS.
I can consider myself a full stack web dev now? Right?
(Every "WordPress dev" ever (and me😀))2 -
I've got an offer from college development team to make a school website with them.
I've no idea of web dev except HTML, CSS, basic js and PHP.
Should I get in?3 -
I'm actually excited for this school year, since now I'm taking my programming class. (I'm taking HTML, CSS and JavaScript)7
-
A friend of mine wants to start learn HTML/CSS/JS and ask me where to start.
Since I started to write them more than 10 years ago, I have no clue where to start, what good ressources are today and so on.
Therefore: what would you recommend, I recommend her?8 -
The person responsible for making layouts in CSS/HTML got moved from our project and now our team had been forced to improvise by ourselves until a replacement is found.
Suddenly all those old, untouched bugs seem very appealing.1 -
So my rant of Squarespace few days ago got me thinking:
Do you think that with the rise of Squarespace, Wix and similar WYSIWYG services, knowledge of HTML, CSS and to some extent JS will become obsolete as a career?4 -
god i hate css, html, bootsrap, anything that requires you to be creative. its mentally exhausting. and time consuming. it takes hours just to get those divs aligned and responsive wtf25

best place to ask stupid developing questions is?
For example: I've been developing in html, css, jquery, PHP for the longest time and I think it's time to learn node.js and / or react. Where should I start?3 -
The moment you have to HTML and CSS despite a designer is in your team , because your PM is sitting besides and ordering you to do so6

Some articles on hackernoon involve setting up multiple fault tolerant databases
Others are about "temporary hacking using just your browser"

This is why I don't trust RSS feeds.3 -
In an average day, how many different languages do you use?
For example my previous job was strictly C and Python.
My current job involves Python, C#, VB, PHP, SQL, HTML/CSS, JS. It's rare but quite possibly I could touch all these on a single day.12 -
Why didnt anyone tell me about you could create mobile Apps With HTML, css, Javascript and node.js?!12

TIL CSS has a counter-increment property and it really gave off some powerful "HTML is a programming language" vibes.9

Wanting to get into reactjs but no idea where to start, I'm coming from straight php/html/css and JavaScript.
Any ideas where to start, articles to read / examples to play with or check out?7 -
I am currently a CS major, studying in a toxic university that teaches no more than old-school stuff.
I know HTML, CSS, and JS (self-taught), and at present, I am spending time on React.js.
I'm also a competitive programmer.
I badly wanna move out of this toxic educational environment and wanna do something that's worth spending time on.
I am feeling like I am just wasting both my time and money in this old-school university.
what should I do? help me out?
I am thinking that once I am fluent enough with HTML, CSS, JS, React, and some database stuff, I must start finding jobs in small startups.
badly need some guidance. PLEASE HELP ME...24 -
I edited my project's github page and changed the background and buttons....
I guess it's time to add css and html mastery to my resume 😉 -
I've always been a tech fan. Made my first site when I was 12, but I stopped at HTML and CSS. Now I started coding, and here I am - 24y/o studying pointers in C. I don't even php.
Am I too late? How old were you when you first started coding?9 -
Screw email clients and their html rendering engine, especially you, outlook, fucking disrespecting most of my css stylings3

Just noticed a job description.
"You have excellent skills in JavaScript, HTML, CSS and backend development with PHP and MySQL. You also have experience developing for iOS and Android."
Are these requirements realistic?3 -
I'm thinking about switching to Sublime Text 3..Used VS Code until now, but its so slow.. I mostly do front end(html, css, js, angular) and a bit of asp.net core.. Someone using Sublime and can recommend some good plugins?9

Ok it's not the "worst" technology I've ever used, but it's undoubtedly one of the most maddening…
Auto Layout!
Powerful? Certainly. Intuitive? Not a chance.
There's nothing "auto" about it. Like shit, give me back my HTML and CSS over this over-architected shitstorm. 😠 -
Aight I’m new to this thing but it’s cool. I’m good with basically nothing but python and pygame. I know HTML and CSS but that doesn’t even count. Welp if someone want to work on something with me to motivate me to learn something be my guest I need help
-
I'm really happy 😁
I'm usually a library developer, but I bought a domain and started a website: forbylinux.com
I'm constructing my own Linux distribution and package manager from scratch.
Anyway, I've never used CSS, html and JavaScript before, how does it look? (It's kind of empty, still have to add content)9 -
TIL you can create accordion design by simply using details and summary html tag and without any JS and CSS.
The discovery was awesome but felt stupid not knowing it and having wasted a couple of hours making it myself.3 -
Am I the only one who thinks that it is put of hand this thing of "building" websites?
CoffeeScript -> JavaScript (+ 1M libraries)
SASS -> CSS (+ framework)
Markdown -> HTML
etc.
Does not his mean that we have failed at creating languages and tools?7 -
I meet a CEO of a company. Having attitude like he knows everything. And give speech on any topic. But speech won't match the topic at any condition.
I meet him I asked what project do u have and all.... He showed me some website projects... With source code it was fine to me...
The thing is before showing the website project. I asked him in which backend language Website are developed...
Answer: php. I ohh php ok.
And he suddenly replied we have also used HTML & CSS.. 😵 😵 I was shocked I thought wtf?? how can a website can be developed without HTML & CSS...3 -
For the past week I've been rewriting an application with just pure php, html, js and css (with a sprinkle of bootstrap), and I gotta say that in this new modern world of frameworks & CMSs, it feels great building a "problem solving" application with nothing but my bare hands!4

In html/css class
no don't leave hold on
my teacher called me an advanced student for knowing that the different homework assignments we had all shared the same file structure, and that you could easily copy/paste html from last week's assignment into thos week's because the referenced stylesheets and content were all in the same place
i feel good but dirty
html is litterally where i started learning -
Tried really hard to get the external css file working and after an hour found that I had not specified href in the main html file.

I just released a new Laravel package. The concept behind it is to use PHP for everything, so you no longer have to write HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. No more constant file and context switching. It also allows you to create and use components in the same way you would with JavaScript libraries like React or Vue.
It's called Malzahar. A magic PHP framework. Build reactive web apps without writing HTML, CSS, or JavaScript! Powered by Tailwind, Alpine, Laravel, & Livewire.

Thanks for checking it out.6 -

We got an assignment to build our own website (with HTML, CSS and JS) a few months ago. Now guess who's been procrastinating for around 3 months and has to do it in one day now.
Does anyone have tips on how to avoid procrastination?6 -
The real web development is optimising the shitty front end code.
The task assigned to me is optimisation of dashboard page of website which was developed by freenlancers.(end of contract from their side)
The front end is mess. Individual js files (bootstrap, popper, jQuery, jQuery ui, loader and main) loading in production inside head tag of html file
No text compression.
Every template has random number of their own js files in any block of template. Nothing structured. There will be fantastic waste of time figuring out file dependencies.
Same with css files. Some are scss, some plain css. No compression. No proper modules.
Basically, I have to go through 25-30 html files. Then understand, which template is extending which one. Go through all js and css files in each html file and again understand dependencies between them
This is gonna be real fun.1 -
how hard can it be to make a section in html/css, so that it has a nice blurry background and a fancy title on it??😩
damn i've lost so much knowledge about html/css/js i can look up everything again😭 ... and i don't even know what to search for, that's how bad i have become😭😭13 -
If I don't know Java and no plan to learning it how should i learn kotlin?
No experience with c or c++ either. No programming experience at all. Because HTML and CSS aren't programming so yeh. plan to learn JavaScript next month after my fucking exam.6 -
Question:
I've just learned html, css, php.
JavaScript and SQL i know from Before. I have used VS since the day i started programming. For all My languages ever! The thing is that My HTML/css placement skills are a huge time stealer. I waste 90% OF webdev time to just get things to the right place even with bootstrap css. Write->compile->write...... So My question is IF i should change program for writing html/css to à more visual/interactive editor or stay with VS and hopefully i become pro designer soon.3 -
When I'm not busy at work I've been spending my time studying on w3schools to get certified in HTML, CSS and JS development. Are these certs really worth It? Will they help me in the future enough to pay $95 for each one?8

What else can i learn?19 -
It seems he is trying to replace HTML with svg and canvas when basic html and css can be used to make beautiful dashboards.
Like i anticipated it is gonna be a ux cluster fuck, where most of the website is an ugly bootstrap contraception and some parts gonna look like futuristic. -
Started by seeing an example of script in Batch and trying to recreate it, then I learned HTML, some CSS and JS and made HTA programs, then a little Visual Basic because I liked the idea of desining your own GUI in Visual Studio so easily, then I started High School and forgot almost all I learned. Sad story...

A recruiter calls me and says they are looking for web developer. I asked her what skills is she looking for and she says "HTML and CSS".
That sounded weird.
I had to literally ask her:
"Shouldn't you be also mentioning something like React, angular, nodejs etc?"
I guess she is a noob.4 -
I hate html and css. It's fucking horseshit. It needs to be auto-generated with a visual editor or something.
I just want to write programming logic in js. Fuck aligning divs and pictures. Fuck UI.15 -
If anybody even cares I use sublime for HTML, CSS, JS and php and IntelliJ for Java... even tho idk why would even anyone care soooo

Secondary school: 3,5 years teaching C# without the slightest clue of OOP. Literally only had 2 classes, where he presented us an example code(which wasn't even written by him), than we rather moved on to HTML and CSS.

I want to start with Web development and for that I want to code a dashboard for finances with a connection to an Restful API.
I know HTML, CSS, TS and some JS. But I don't know which framework to use.
The framework should:
- have an easy way to separate HTML from JS or TS code.
- easy way to break down a single page into different html files.
- not have to use npm or Node.JS. Preffered is a CDN solution.
- HTML Templating
Maybe also tutorials on how to setup the coding enviroment.8 -
so i did this nice tool with data structures, dynamic ui composing, input sanitizing, modularity and scalability with tidy and efficient javascript and useful css.
showing it to my boss: "cool what you can do with html". WAT?
(he is not a programmer but knows i´m into web-programming) -
In college, first year, made a website using just HTML and CSS, and now I'm receiving offers from seniors to upscale their portfolio websites, which looks like an early 2000's blog website made by a 6 year old with colour blindness. I may or may not be getting threats #sufferingFromSuccess2

Finally enrolled in a c# programming course!
I've got somewhat of a knowledge in html and css and was wondering for a long time if I should go Javascript or Php, but got an advice that c# will give me a broader understanding of programming.
Can't wait to learn! :) -
I migrated my blog from css to ionic , and i wrote about it.
I would love to read your thoughts,

If html and css are not really considered as programming languages, then how do we call the job? I've 'coded' the design? I've front-end designed the design? I've 'sliced' the design? (last one is sure old fashioned enough to exist..)
p.s. and while front-end devs nowadays are required to have angular, react, etc as their skillset, I feel like html and css are also shifting to be required for designers..1 -
What does it take to build a good looking and responsive website?

I'm proficient in Java, decent in c, and started and ultimately hated html/css I'm thinking of learning Kotlin, worth it?5
-
Hi all. I just have a quick question. Why is Wordpress so hated in the web development community? Is it not considered "real@ development? As someone who is decent in HTML and CSS, should I use Wordpress to make websites or just stick to HTML and CSS (trying to learn JS at the moment)14

Neovim and atom. I can't really pick one. Neovim is great for smaller config files and it's really fast. Also, I usually have terminal window open.
On the other hand, I like atom because of its looks and I prefer to use it for bigger projects. I also use it to edit js, html and css files. -
I'd like to dive deep into web development.
I'm creating a little tool for myself on a web page, including server-side php, css, html, mysql and jquery, all just for fun and the experience.
I've got several ideas on how I want this tool to work and behave ...
But it's fucking difficult to wrap my head around all those technologies available. I don't know how to achieve certain things (yet) and what even to look out for😣
Fun fact: I already experimented with HTML, CSS, jQuery before as a noob. Yet today I've forgotten almost everything and need to start almost all over again, now even including PHP and MySQL, too.
This is gonna be fine. 😐 -
Why employers strongly believe Front-End and Back-End are synonyms of Full-Stack?
They are requiring Front devs to have knowledge and experience with relational databases and Back devs to be experts in HTML and CSS, sometimes graphic design stuff too.
For God's sake just hire a Full-stack Dev3 -
I CANNOT STAND HTML
I am learning HTML and CSS through Cengage and honestly it ruins my life. I type in the code EXACTLY as the textbook has it, but apparently its still wrong5 -
XHTML, I had to work on an old project that was developed around it with IE 11 in mind, many bullshit limitations where a hassle, from all the tech, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Developing with workarounds was the norm. Never gonna develop with it.
-
First dev project? In Holland we had a social media site back in the day called CU2. You could put in your own html/css and style your profile the way you wanted.
For professional work it was a landingpage for a healthcare related page. -

Does anyone know of any good resources for learning to make web apps (specifically HTML and CSS)? I'm not aiming to be a web designer, I just want to learn to make UIs for dashboards and stuff. Are there any particularly good code-alongs for something like that where they explain the caveats and gotchas?6
-
Coz a question like this in SO will get me banned......
I know HTML, CSS, JS, React in frontend.
I know Java as backend including database connectivity and all.
Should i learn a more demanding backend language lile PHP?
Or should I further learn frontend technologies like Angular, D3.js, and other frameworks?15 -
CSS.... vertical centering back around 2000 before flexbox and frameworks
HTML- before we head css frameworks looked bootstrap. I am done make things pretty ..I make them functional -
i am currently learning react and i find it easier to convert vanilla html css websites into react than writing a website in react from scratch. while writing a website, i am now accustomed to writing mobile first flex based css that looks nice , and handles most of the animation, show hide based stuff by classes. whereas in react if i start thinking about how states and context are going to work with it, i end up going bacl to the imported css to get it to look nice at first1

Well, Uhm I have this instructor in Web Programming that throughout the whole semester, what he only thought was html and css. We never tackled PHP nor Javascript, SMH.

What is your opinion on best text editor for HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and SQL and with built in FTP?
Seriously in need of a good editor 😑31 -
1) Simple, secure and powerful technology for website user interface design which will replace HTML, CSS and JS.
2) Simple and practical technology to be able to utilize HTML for all kinds of documents which will replace paper page based document formats like PDF and Word.
3) One technology for native mobile app development to rule them all. So that it's not necessary to use HTML and JS.1 -
I have a friend who always talks about coding on his whatsapp status, he even posted a screenshot of a mobile app he allegedly was working on. So, i asked him what language he uses to Develop Mobile apps (not web apps) and he said, html, css and php. I am a beginner in programming, i know java, python, dart and Javascript can be used to develop mobile apps, can we also use html, css and php to develop mobile apps?8

Am I wasting my time doing a Software Engineering degree when my main interest is Web development? (we study nothing related to html, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript, Ruby etc) it's mainly C++ and C#8

My first dev project was back in the third grade. I made a simple (and hideous) HTML website. No CSS, no JS, just plain old (and I mean old) HTML.
Showed my whole class, there was much awe and wonder.

K, how to get started with HTML, CSS and JS basics? I want to get started right away and would like to have something like a reference tutorial, with short helpful code. Nothing like a course or something. Hope you can help me.3

Html and CSS and Noob
hey guys
trying to do something, search my ass off and can't find it.
So, I have a e page to access tables (another html file)
you can check It at rjpf.ddns.net .
I have a menu, with links to a iFrame, but that is not a good solution for cellphones.
I want to click the button and insert the html inside the main Div , instead of using frames.
how can I do that ?
so>
click the link(CSS button),
opens another page in the div
when I click another button opens another html file in the same DIV
tht way instead of a frame that is had to scroll It would be a single page, easy to paged own in cellphones.
Have another question but this oné must be taken care of first.
Thanks in adance11 -

I moved to a foreign country, is it practical to try to freelance remotely when I've acquired the skills to build websites? I don't think I'd be ready soon, but I'm just curious of others opinions. (I've got a pretty good grasp at HTML, CSS, jQuery, and JavaScript.)

Advice needed please.
I have an interview friday for a front end developer. Currently I am junior dev with just a full stack certiticate.
It’s the typical skillset requiremnts JS HTML and CSS with familiar with React, Angular and Vue.
As far as languages I really do not know JS but I know php. Taken a JS class in school found it to be fairly simple and that was my second language I learned.
How do I spend the next 48 hours? Learning JS? Spending time going over frameworks? Refreshing HTML/CSS?
I am much stronger back end than front end but I am hoping this will be more of a front end engineer job requiring the configuration of node packages and such.1 -

So I did this little experiment PWA caching and service worker which caches entire website (js/css/html) [It's a small website]. Now I do not understand the concept of PWA caching entirely because when I 'Add it to Home screen' it becomes an app as expected but when I turn off the internet and then open the app it requires the internet.
What in fucking ass, why won't you just render those html pages which are cached ?15 -
Is it wrong of me to want to learn technologies like GraphQL, databases, Nest.js, and other backend related technologies without having solid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript knowledge? I've been working with Node.js and Express.js for a couple years now but really want to dive into more of whats possible on the backend but I never felt interested to learn the frontend. I do have some very basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, but I feel I couldn't pass a technical interview related to them. I just find the backend so much more interesting and fun to work with over the frontend.3

I saw somewhere Phonegap can convert HTML to apk, but if I do it, will it work well?
I mean, if I want to put google ads or any other ads can I choose where to put them?9 -

How much does a freelance front-end web dev (entry level) charge per hour (average market rate)?
Skills: HTML,CSS, JS,Jquery
Experience: At least 1 or 1.5 years
I've googled and the results that came up are those before 2015/2016.
Thanks in advance.5 -
HTML: Tags. I fucking hate them. Yes, Emmet makes it fast and simple to create them, but when restructuring or deleting things it becomes a mess every time. And I cant use a templating engine (i think it's called) at work, also I havent found one that I like.
CSS: Trying to apply CSS to Angular Bootrap Components. Everything has a shadow dom + a lot of things are ! important for some fucking reason. -
So far in my IT class, we have been going through alot of boring html and css. I am so looking forward starting to use php, and getting into the backend development. What do you guys like the most? Frontend or backend?9
-
I have been 70% focused on front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JS,and related frameworks) and 30% on back-end web technologies (PHP, SQL mainly). I enjoy making websites and web apps that look good, but also understand the need for back-end functionality.

uhh im pretty sure everyone here has seen my html and css skills. ill be back until i don't make trash out of thin air. and yes. ill be learning react :) and maybe cutting off js soon. for typescript its for my own good!3

Can you even call yourself a frontend dev when you betray your backend mindset by prefering JS over CSS and JSX over HTML + DOM API?3

Who else finds HTML/CSS to be just plain bad?
since that's what the web adopted, apparently no matter what you are developing if it involves a GUI then the design method almost always follows in the same path as the web.
that's not the issue though, the real problem is that the web adopted a very horrible way to create a UI, while HTML might have been fine for 90s-style websites I just feel like its a very lousy way to create a modern interactive webapp UI, its just very painfully obvious that it wasn't designed for that purpose. remind me again what HTML stands for? "HyperText Markup Language" yea that sounds about right. and CSS really doesn't help but double down on the flaws of HTML.
on a whim I can come up with a better method:
instead of the weird <body><footer> structure, why not have say "objects that flow in a 2D space", you define the parameters location and dimension of these objects, with something like javascript they interact with each other and just like div in HTML objects contain smaller objects.
this makes a lot more sense than the footer/body design or the obviously duck-taped attempts at controlling the style in CSS, like flow, and absolute-position.
am I alone in this?9 -

People! Do you know if there is something similar to gulp and modules like minify, uglify, smooth, etc (for HTML, CSS and JS) that runs in Python instead of nodejs? I can't install nodejs/npm in my job because "open source software is dangerous" :)10
